I like Thursday #63

My likes this week will be a bit redundant for those of you who participate in I Like Thursday and To-Do Tuesday. Thanks LeeAnna for giving us this space to share our likes. Check out LeeAnnas blog, Not Afraid of Color

First.

I pre-ordered Emily Bailey’s new book on August 23rd. It released on September 14th and it was shipped and arrived on my front porch on Sept 21st.

In the mean time I commented on Kelly Young’s post about her newest book. I love and own her first book, Stash Statement. So I was interested in this book too! She had a contest. All you had to do was comment on her announcement post! I did and I won. Kelly shipped it out to me right away, but the package was not anxious to come to live in Wyoming! Finally on September 20th it arrived! I am glad. Now I am following along with her blog hop.

I finally got a chance to get a pedicure. I was the first one at the salon on Tuesday of last week.  One other young women came in while I was there. Easily social distanced. And the salon owner and I wore masks!

Fall is happening all around.

This is not my pumpkin haul, but a friend’s!

Some trees are turning and some are much more reluctant ! But our sky is always blue! Mostly!!

And the library saga in my community continues. Latest surprise. One county commissioner doesn’t want to increase funding to allow the library to read and review the , now 35 books,  that have been challenged in the last 2 months. In fact he suggested closing the library! Unbelievable!

Looks like I also need to spend some time weeding this flowerbed! Yikes!

This one is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie.⬆️

⬇️ And this is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

I’m proud of the library staff for standing up to this bully and defending the library’s  role to supply diversification in library materials! I certainly don’t want someone telling me what I can and cannot read. And although, I don’t have teenage children, I did at one time. And I was open to talk about all the books they were interested in .

I almost forgot to share my plum crostata. We had some plums from the grocery store that were less than stellar. Tossed with a little bit of sugar and some flour and cinnamon, baked in a refrigerated pie crest.
Quick and yummy!

To-Do Tuesday #58

To-Do Tuesday is hosted by Texas Quilt Gal. Thanks, Linda for giving us this place to list our to-dos and to share with others. Let's see how I did!

Last Week  September 21st - September 27th

1.Find some fabric for the backing of En Provence. ✅

Yikes! Makes me dizzy up close! :p

It's not my first choice, but it is purple and I had enough for a back without having to piece something. That was a win-win for me.

2. Continue sewing rows of Hollow Nine Patches. Nope! :(

3. Yellow and Gray Project. ✅.

Made a start. I'm making yellow crumb blocks.

I was the lucky winner of Kelly Young's newest book, Scrappy Improve Quilting. And it  was my inspiration.

I had ordered this book   Crumb Quilts by Emily Bailey in August I think. She featured it on her facebook page before it was due for release. There are some great quilts in this book too!

4. Read and Stitch on Autumn Embroidery ✅

I finished The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie.
The Front

This is how the book came from my library. I thought it was very clever. It is Banned Books Week! this week!

The back

I gave the book 4/5 stars. It wouldn't be everyone's taste. But I'm open to lots of different stories. This book deals with family, friendship, alcoholism, racism, and poverty.

and I stitched on my Autumn stitchery. ✅

Only the bird’s beak and the centers of the flowers left to do! Tonight should be a good time to finish that little bit up. Then a good pressing and it will be ready for borders.

Next week -  September 28th - October 4th

1. Keep working on Birds of a Feather: yellow and gray project

2. Hollow 9-patches into rows!

3. Autumn Stitchery : borders?

4. Mail Covered in Love blocks to Kat

5. Make one more Growing Up Odd block!

ScrapHappy Saturday…… finally some orange

Happy Last Weekend of September.
I'm linking up with Angela at So Scrappy , a day late.  Having a bit of an issue with Blogger and photos!

This Fall Banner is hung.

And this little one at my front door. It’s a favorite!

I needed a pedicure so opted for orange. The salon I go to has the customer pick the color of polish from the rack on the wall! This one looked orange in the bottle. Looks more melon on my toes.

The nail tech, who is the owner of the shop is trying to do it all by herself. She was on a mission, hence the tiny bruise and sore spot at the top of my left big toe! I didn’t really notice till I put closed toe shoes on!

I’m sewed 3 orange cats

And mama cat is in the works!

And on my walk this morning….it’s beautiful here…64 degrees at 8AM!   I saw this little tree…

September OMG Finish Link Up

My One Monthly Goal for September was to get the scrappy binding on my Rainbow Geese. Done and ready to hang at our local quilt show.

It looked like this the first of September.

I wanted to put the colors closest to the actual blocks. Pink near pink, aqua near aqua. But I did NOT want to have a seam end up at the corner. So I seamed the colors and laid them around the corners, with loose ends at the middle of each side.

This one would have been close! Then I attached the binding at each side as I usually do to end the binding on a regular quilt. I have gotten pretty comfortable with that process and it worked like a champ. No seams at the corners!!!

Then I gathered lots of colors of thread to match the different colors in the binding. Sometimes I use bobbin thread to sew down binding. I try to use up each spool and each bobbin.

The stitching down of the binding began. I enjoy this process but my hands have been paining me a little lately. So I broke it up into several sessions. There was lots of changing of thread color and rethreading of needles.  That's how it is with scrappy binding.

And now its done. I have washed it, so it's all crinkly and cuddly looking. I was going to keep it for myself, but may send it off to my granddaughter in Florida. She has worn her graduation quilt out! She doesn't sew, but asked me the other day how to repair her quilt. (Hint, Hint!  I think!)

You can see here that all four corners have a different color. This was one of the most fun quilts I have ever done. So many fabrics, so many memories, so much colorful happiness!  Almost all scraps from my stash. I did have to purchase a few solids. I did not have a lot of those. Now I have a better selection! I used solid as the "sky" for the geese in each block.

I'm excited to be linking this up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts. I love this One Monthly Goal event she hosts. It's doable and keeps me focused. I never would have completed so many projects without this spurring me on.

Finished or Not Finished Friday #66. A little finish for October!

Not a lot happening in my sewing room, since I finished my Rainbow Geese Migration. Our local quilt show is next weekend and I am ready.

This table topper is my most recent finish. Read about it here.

I'm linking up with Alycia at Alycia Quilts.  Her Finished or Not Finished Friday is a great event. Come play along.

September Table Scraps Challenge Orange! Preparing for Halloween

Hooray, it’s time to reveal our Table Scraps creations. I think it was fabulous that the RSC color for September was orange. Lots of possibilities. Below is one of my favorite FALL decorations.

This encouraged me to think of a different table topper. I’ve had this pattern in my Tablerunners notebook for a long time. I thought it would be fun to use some Halloween fabrics!  It's a pattern by Beth Shibley. I found it on ETSY!

I pulled some fabrics. The pumpkins are a favorite.

Needed a fourth, lighter! The kitties and pumpkins will work!

The directions  used the 60 degree line on a ruler, marked with painters tape. Then I remembered I had a specialty ruler bought for a Triangle Frenzy class. It worked perfectly.

Cut the strip set! Turn the ruler, cut again!

Six triangles , three with the orange spiders at the bottom, three with the black with white polka dots at the bottom.

I got it this far at our sew day on September 9th. It’s a economy binding. A single strip , cut 1 3/4" wide. I followed the pattern directions but this isn’t how I usually end binding. Luckily I left a longer tail and was able to unpick a few beginning stitches and do my regular technique. Then I decided to stitch it down by machine. Not my usual technique either. But these challenges have been great for trying new patterns, new ways of doing things.

It’s not perfect, but I’m satisfied!

Now, to put it on my living room coffee table. I think it needs a new something to sit on it! Maybe I should venture into Hobby Lobby and find the perfect centerpiece.

I’m linking up with Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quilter. Thanks again to Joy for hosting this fun and productive challenge.
