The End of April Push Toward Completion.

 It’s time for Finished or Not Friday and April’s Table Scraps Challenge. And Slow Sunday Stitching.

As is my MO, I’m using crumb fabric for Table Scraps Challenge.  For this April, the crumbs are Red. The Joyful Quilter, our hostess for Table Scraps Challenge chose the prompt Rain. This was selected before she knew the RSC color was red. Had some of us digging deep into red scraps.

I’m at the quilting stage today(Saturday) and the binding has been cut, ready to be joined and pressed, then attached. Keep watching this space.  Well, I got distracted! I forgot I had a Quilt Group meeting on Saturday, so I stopped quilting and got ready. 

Then I remembered I was invited to a neighbor’s  50th Birthday Party. So I did that. Then when I got home, we rewarmed leftovers from Friday Night’s Date Night. 

Mr Busy wanted me to watch Chicago Wednesday, streaming on Peacock! There went my Saturday!

This morning, I joined the binding pieces, and pressed them. Finished some last minute rain streaks and then sewed the binding to the front. I also added triangles to the top two corners, for hanging. This is a 20X20” square. 

Now Sunday I am sewing down the binding to the back, and burying a bunch of quilting threads for Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy’s Quilts. 

So it’s early Monday morning and it’s raining. So a perfect day for a photo op of my Table Scraps Challenge project.  I used a pattern called Downpour from Kelly Young’s book Scrappy Improv Quilting. 

I’m calling mine There’s a Storm Coming!

I’m also workin on January’s Table Scraps Challenge .  No real photos, because as of now, it’s only an idea. 

If you read yesterday’s post, we were having guests. But it didn’t happen. R got called to work and wasn’t back in time. He drives a pilot car and calls can come whenever. So they will come tonight.

Friday. Not Finished

   On this last week of the month, I finished nothing!  I’ve working on my SAHRR . Round 2, HST was

 

about done. 

After round one. But I don’t know what Round 3 will be. So I don’t like the way Round 2 looks.  On to plan B. More Jacob’s Ladder sections. 

This is the Off Week for Project Quilting, so I thought I would finish my pink Table Scraps Challenge .

But that didn’t happen, I had company from out of town. That meant family obligations happened. I’m glad for the visits and for the meals shared. But sewing was at a minimum. 

We are having friends over for dinner tonight and will teach them to play Rummikub. Mr Busy is obsessed  with that game, and I like it too. Should be fun. Spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread are on the menu. 

Tomorrow I will give TSC my full attention. *SMILE*.

Slow Sunday Stitching End of July

 

 What’s better than starting your day with your journal, a hot cup of Black Silk and avocado toast? 

Joining Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy’s Quilts that’s what!

Even though this week had some project quilting and finishing in the sewing room there was still time for some slow stitching. 

I sewed the binding down by hand on Thursday at my stitching group’s gathering. Did I take any photos? Nope, nada! But they are done. 

This placemat for donation to our local Meals on Wheels.

And this “rolled up so you can see the lavender binding” glamor shot of the kid’s  quilt! Also for donation!

Today I’m stitching on the Winter SAL from Stitchonomy!  I finished the Bright Stars row. Now I’ll work on Warm Mittens. A trip to Hobby Lobby yesterday to pick up 2 of the called for colors that I didn’t have. DMC 3766 and DMC 3809!  How can that be? I have three and a half boxes of floss on bobbins! I think these are newer DMC colors and my stash is ancient! Like me. 

And I hope to get the Temperature Heart caught up through the end of July. We had 1 day that hit 105 F this week! Unusual!

Table Scraps Challenge for June ‘24

 

It’s the end of June! I was mistaken in my RSC post last week, when I said the 22nd was the last Saturday for blue sewing. Maybe I was thinking of only myself! Haha! We have the 29th to sew blue! I’ve been sewing all the leftovers of the blue on my cutting table! Well, maybe not all the leftovers!  But blue crumb blocks were constructed! And blue 5” wide chunks were sewn together. 

The chunks were laid on 9.5” x5” pieces of batting..and loosely quilt with X’s . The navy blue star is 5”x5” and quilted to a piece of batting. Then crumb blocks cut 5x5 were layered to plain 5x5 pieces, pressed wrong sides together to make 4 pockets. Those were basted to the bottom of the 5x9.5 chunks!

Then I went looking for watermelon fabric. Because the prompt for this month was “Watermelon” and blue fabric! 🤔🙄

Whoo Hoo! I found some! 

So, I’ve been wanting a small but not too small crossbody bag to carry my cellphone, wallet, a hankie and maybe some gum or breath mints. I also have a small collapsible hair brush! You know the essentials but not all the other stuff!

What better way to use up my blue scraps! I found this Whistle Pig pattern in my pattern tote. I made the small one. It calls for a charm pack, but I cut my blue scraps and crumb blocks to 5x5. 

This is what happened!

Last Purple ScrapHappy Saturday!

There was not much purple sewing going on in my space this week. I was trying to get my 30 Blocks flimsy wide enough to become a shower curtain. I measured and cut squares and rectangles of several colors. And I measured and sewed muslin for a backing. Not much to look at. I didn’t get it done. 

But there was a bit of purple in the mix! 

I had a couple of days where I wasn’t feeling my best. Achey and out of sorts. So I did some cross stitch, read a book and napped. 

Unstitched the hems in some gifted gingham curtains and sewed the pieces back together for a backing for the Jasmine quilt. 

I posted about my Table Scraps Challenge Thread Catcher.   There were just small projects completed!

No 2022 Rainbow Finish so ……A New Way to Be Scrappy!

For the last 5 years I have participated in Angela’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge in an effort to sew up my scrappy stash. I have enjoyed each and every year, but I rarely had a finish. 

In 2018, I made crumb blocks and assembled them into Precarious.  

It still needs to be quilted!

 

RSC 2019  was Bowtie Blocks, Sprout Blocks, Tiny Tuesdays and Garlic Knots from Leaders and Enders!  

RSC2020  I started Hollow 9's and Geese Migration Blocks. I made Rainbow Colored Scrap baskets and started a different Leader and Ender project, Easy Breezy!

RSC 2021. Full Stop from Angela , Growing Up Odd blocks and more Hollow Nines! 

 This year 2022, there  were Fall colored strings from emptying a tote of strings, ZigZag rows , some tiny Pieces In the Garden Blocks from Melva Loves Scraps, more Rainbow strings, Happy Blocks and a new Leaders and Enders from Bonnie Hunter, Triple Treat!

Phew! 

So now I have flimsies, and project boxes full, though not only from RSC blocks. Some are other quilts started because !!! Not many finished quilts. In 2023 I hope to remedy that!

This my plan.  I have built an Excel spreadsheet that lists all the months and a place to enter the color picked by Angela.  Then there is an empty column for any notes. UFOs are numbered ( there are 20!) in the next 2 columns, and each of them has been assigned a color by random. Then a column with a quick description of what the UFO needs to be done.   Lastly there is a place to list the Table Scraps Challenge hosted by Joyful Quilter, using the monthly color. Last year, Joyful gave us a prompt. This year the prompts will occur again. Although I am expecting some uniquely creative prompts!

I was hoping to insert the file as a photo here, but I’m not as skilled at merging Blogger with Excel as I had hoped! So I hope you can sort of tell by this photo of my laptop screen. 

Hopefully this will be a way to participate in the monthly color and yet complete my many UFO's. I'm going to try to keep this up on my laptop. But I may end up printing it and hanging it in my sewing room as a more VISUAL reminder.  I'll see how well I do with it just on the Mac for now.
