Today I hope to make some progress on Jack’s House. I had a problem last week. I was stitching merrily along til I got to this point. 

 

Actually I was nearly to the bottom of the right side of the house. There is a Halloween pumpkin there. As I started to stitch the stem on the pumpkin, I realized I was one row too far to the right with the black border. I counted and pondered. Could I just adjust everything to compensate. Not with this fancy border. The measurements must be perfect. ⤵️

So out came the unpicker  and the seam ripper. UGH1 I hate doing that. The problem occurred when I stitched the moon. I unpicked to here. These two stitches were correct. 😟

I spent most of my stitching time early this week restitching and now this is where I am.  The moon is correctly placed, the green of the lawn has progressed and one pumpkin is complete. 

When this project is Fully Finished , I need to get started on some Christmas stitches. I have a couple I want to do.  

This WIP from 2024! Actually this is a Winter stitch, not really Christmas!

Last year 2025, I won a gift from Texas Quilt Gal during a Christmas in July blog hop.  (Linda, correct me if I’m wrong). Threads (that I have added to, to stitch Peace on Earth)

and fabric.   (Isn’t it gorgeous with the gold sparkle?)

and a project bag.  Which I didn’t photograph! 🙃

So I’m all set for the “stay indoors and stitch” weather that is headed our way!

Last week I showed 3 16-patch star blocks in purple. That made me caught up  for today the 3rd Saturday of September. 

However, I had the purple scrap bucket out, so while I was doing laundry and trying to stay busy rather than just playing online games I did block #4. 

I also started some crumb blocks but tossed them and the other purple bits in a zip lock sandwich bag, called it a mini crumb block kit and added it to the donation box that will be delivered to the boutique at our annual Quilt Show the first weekend in October. Yay, for some downsizing!

And just to give you a smile, we stopped at our favorite Shell station to fuel up my car and we saw this dog in the next bay over. 

taken through the drivers side window. Patiently waiting for his owner.  We giggled and smiled at this big boy.  Never have we ever seen this before, not even in Wyoming where there are ranch dogs in every pickup.

ScrapHappy Saturday 9-12

 

Still trying to use up scraps. This month we are working on purples. For this 2nd Saturday in September I have 3 16-patch star blocks. 

That is extent of my sewing this week. While I put these blocks together, I listened to this audiobook. 

I recommend it. I’m currently reading another book by Eileen Garvin. It , too, is good. Set in the Mt Hood area of Oregon.

. what has been the highlight of your week?

I guess the highlight this week was our great grandson’s birthday. Our daughter was here for 3 days and 3 nights. We love it when we have an extra day or two. I didn’t get pictures of the party. It was very low-key. New teenagers are not really interested in pleasing adults. 🥰

I tried to download just a still from the Happy Birthday song video. Sorry it failed. The cake was a tall ( 4 layers) chocolate with chocolate frosting and a design of a video game character. I don’t know which one?

 My Busy’s birthday is in one week, so daughter brought his gift. It was the game of Kollide. Our family likes board games. 

There is a string and 20 very strong magnets. Divide the magnets between the players. Place your magnets within the circle , one at a time , one turn at a time. If your magnet attracts another magnet or 2 or 3, you must add them to your pile. First one to get rid of his/her magnets, wins. We laughed and giggled, complained and booed. It was GREAT!

Last Thursday, we learned about Kinusaiga. Our teacher had this sample:

We all did sewing machines. This is mine.  I’m a slow learner and an over-thinker. 

I’ll show it again when finished.

It’s already 4:30pm on Sunday and not a single stitch laid. We have out of town company. It’s hard to turn your attention to stitching when you have guests. 

I really want to work on Jack’s House. 

I’ve barely begun!

ScrapHappy Saturday 8-29-26 and 9-5-26

My intention was to get the last yellow and aqua (from July) 16-patch starts done and on the design board. It did not happen. 

Edited  Now it’s  9-5-26:

All done now!  4 from July, and 4 for August.!

I am looking forward to PURPLE..    

         I dug out my purple scrap bucket. 

Made some choices: 

I’ve been listening to the audio version of The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin. It is so good. 

I’m also reading the print book Circle of Days by Ken Follett. 

Our life is busy. Next Saturday (actually today) is a birthday party for the younger great grandson, who’s “finally taller than Grandma”. He’s 13!

Our bathroom renovation is progressing, but slowly. I’m so ready for the disruption to be over, and to be settled back in our bedroom. The glass for the shower won’t be ready for 2-3 weeks! Good grief!

I don’t have many photos to share, but maybe there will be more next Thursday. This weekend my youngest great grandson is having his 13th birthday party. His grandma, our daughter, is coming from Loveland to help celebrate. 

Last week at our Thursday Stitchers gathering, a newbie stitcher, showed her Chicken Quilt  She bought this as a panel and used it to learn to do basic stem stitch, back stitch, satin stitch and some french knots. She is finally finishing it. It was a labor of love. The striped binding is a perfect choice. 

I ‘m diving into my purple scrap bucket, to get started on September RSC color. 

I’m still reading 

And listening to The Music of Bees on my way to and from my arm therapy. Today is last day of that , so I’ll have to find another time to listen.  I’m in the market for new earbuds. Any suggestions?
