Two for One

Or more precisely, one project for two different memes!

I enjoy participating in The Joyful Quilter’s Monthly Table Scraps Challenge and Alycia Quilt’s weekly Finished or Not Friday.
May’s RSC color was pink. As I have all year,  I sewed scraps of the monthly color, sometimes my scraps used a pattern, sometimes into crumb blocks. Using Joyful’s theme prompt Kentucky Derby, I struggled. My pinks went together slowly. No photos, I was struggling. I’m a city girl. I’ve never liked horses! Some girls go through a horse phase around 8-12 yo. Not me. They frightened me!  But, I like hats! 👒 I considered a big floppy girly hat. That would have been awesome if I lived on the East Coast and there was a possibility of attending the Kentucky Derby! But I live in Wyoming!  A cowboy hat would have been wrong, so I appliqued a Derby shape on my table topper. I quilted a 1 inch grid diagonally, zigzaged the brown derbies and bound it with the same fabric as the back. Done!

The derby is a image from the internet.

And so I have a finish. A pink crumb table topper with brown derbies will be used on my side table this summer.

I LIKE Thursday May 30th

Today is our youngest granddaughter’s 31st birthday! How can that be. I remember the day she was born like it was yesterday!

She’s the beauty on the left, sharing a Maple Creamy with a friend. Or an ice cream cone  if you’re not from Vermont!

This week has been meh! as far as creativity goes. I’ve been working on May’s pink Kentucky Derby Table  Scraps Challenge. I’ll post it tomorrow.

Mr Busy’s been suffering from some sort of virus/ head cold/ sinus something! The Covid test was negative, so that’s good.

I’m still reading Covenant of Water on my Kindle App. It is so well written. Such a good story of life in India in the early 1900s. I’m only at 69%, so I’m not sure how the story continues!  But I’m enjoying it!

We watched the first 4 episodes of Season 3 of Bridgerton! Now we wait til June 13 th for more.
Even a wallflower can bloom!

**************************** LeeAnnas prompt!
in honor of Memorial Day culture... not the actual meaning mind you...

Memorial day is the opening of pools, summer and wearing white pants

do you look forward to wearing white pants? Do you own any? Shorts capris, dress pants or jeans?  Did you ever have a favorite pair for instance?

hip hugger cut offs with frayed cuffs?

I love white pants for summer. I have a couple of white capris. One of linen, more dressy. I don’t wear shorts, haven’t for years! My sister and I had a favorite white jean from Lee. They had side elastic in the waist. Good for waistlines that varied from month to month. LOL! Lee doesn’t make them any more. I’m on the lookout for a great pair of white jeans!

I’m off to our local library for a morning of stitching with friends.

Scrap Happy Saturday Pink’s Goodbye

I had to smile ! My post title made me think of this famous P¡nk!

But she’s not saying goodbye anytime soon.

I haven’t sewn any pink in recent weeks. I have 7 pink zipper blocks and  8 pink split nine patch blocks finished. Not sure what my final plan is, but I don’t want anymore orphan blocks. So when I settle on a pattern, I’ll add to the colors I need.

Mr Busy and I  got the grommets in the “shower curtain”. There is some “pink” in the top of that project.

In looking forward to the new color for June, BLUE!

This quilt is totally done and boxed and on its way the the deserving recipient!

Hanging on the 6ft fence in our back yard, I had to turn the top under. It’s 78x 78!

I LIKE Thursday ~. 5-23-24

Prompts for May 23 2024:

Do you have a morning routine?

I sort of have a routine. I like to be up between 6:00 and 6:30am. The first thing I do is turn on the Keurig. Then I put on fuzzy pj pants ( in the winter, my house is still cold at 6am) and a sweatshirt, wool socks and slippers. Then I make a cup of coffee and ready my morning meds. This is followed by 1 hour of blog reading or writing.

Other things:

We celebrated our great granddaughter’s 39th birthday on Sunday. Burgers, brats, potato salad, fruit bowl with homemade dip, veggie tray from the supermarket.soda, ice tea and soda. I didn’t get a single photo!😢 I can share the fruit dip recipe though. It’s from Beth @ thefirstyearblog.com.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vanilla yogurt
  • 1 container marshmallow creme7 oz
  • 1 cup cool whip
  • Fresh fruit

I tweaked it just a bit. I only had 1 container of FF vanilla yogurt in the fridge, so I used about 3/4 of the marshmallow crème, a cup of Sugar Free cool whip and a drizzle of honey. Using an electric hand mixer, I beat it til smooth and that’s it. Ooh! So good!

Nobody wanted cake, so I sent 1/2 the angel food cake, 1/2 the strawberries and a container of regular whipped topping home with them.

We  visited, sang Happy Birthday with her husband( in St Louis for work)and her sister in Vermont on FaceTime.  We also played, Guess Who?

and several rousing rounds of Right, Left, Center with the Littles. Though I’m soon going to have to quit calling Joe, a little. At nearly 11, he’s almost as tall as me!

Tuesday night, the 2 First Grades at Miss B’s school had their music program.

I thought I could share the video her mon took and posted on FB. But she has it locked down to just family.  But here’s the program. Sorry for the crumpled program, it was raining as we walked to the car afterwards.

And the binding and label are complete on the quilt for my nephew. It goes in the mail today!

I redacted his name and the quilter’s name. Didn’t get permission from them.

We got groceries yesterday, had takeout for lunch,, returned Mr Busy’s book to the library, and  dropped off three bags at the recycling center!

That’s about all! Sharing at Not Afraid of Color

I LIKE Thursday ~ 5-16-24

LeeAnna asks:

What lessons from your childhood have most impacted your worldview?

This is a pretty thought provoking question. I was raised in the Methodist Church. My parents were charter members of the small neighborhood church that we attended. I know that my church family and the Sunday School lessons helped form my view of what the world should be. Love Thy Neighbor  meant just that! It didn’t matter if they were the same as us or different. Wish that was still how my neighbors behaved.

Some other happenings.

I cleaned a cupboard and found 3, nearly full containers of Poppy Seeds. I’m not sure how old the red and white tin is, but it says 75 c on the top. Oh, and I disposed of several spices that were very old!

I made a small baby quilt top. It’s not a quilt yet, but progress is progress. I’ve named it, “Eat My Dust!”
The blue novelty fabric has those words and others.
This is another version of the Back and Forth pattern by Sarah Goer.

And I’ll be stitching the binding on the quilt for my nephew. I picked it up on Wednesday and almost have it trimmed and ready. Actually Deanna at my LQS attached the binding, so all I have to do is hand stitch it down.

I used a gingham piece and didn’t quite have enough. My nephew is a Science professor at the University of Minnesota, so I thought the black piece of math formulas would work! I need to make a label, finish the binding and get it in the mail!

Slow Sunday Stitching ~ Mother’s Day 2024

Celebrating my 59th Mother’s Day. Today I will, sew, stitch, watch a movie. No plans to cook, though Mr Busy may grill some burgers. Next weekend family will be here, then I will cook, and eat, and hug on my daughter, grandkids and a couple of littles!

I stitched on my Woven Wreath May design on Thursday stitch group. I’ve got a few more sprigs and the teacup and saucer left.

I’ll probably catch up on the temperature cross stitch and maybe, put some stitches in a Lizzie Kate Spring String!

The Temperature stitch is done through last Sunday. The Spring String is on some 18 ct Aida I had in my stash. It was ivory, I boiled it in some coffee and a tea that had orange rinds and some kind of reddish flowers in it. It was getting old, so used it up! I didn’t buy new floss. If I had the color indicated on the chart I used it, if I didn’t I chose a close color by looking at the picture .

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers everywhere, especially in the US this day! Whether you bore children, or adopted children, or fostered, or helped raise someone else’s child. You are appreciated! If you have fur babies, and nieces or nephews, or classrooms full of other people’s kids, I applaud you. It takes all of us! It takes a village!

Finished or Not Friday!

This week has been a total bust in the sewing room. Well, maybe not a total bust, but the only thing that happened is that I ironed 3 shirts and 10 pillowcases and got the pieces for my second Back and Forth child’s quilt on the hallway design wall. They are numbered but this is not exactly how they will end up. Definitely a Not Finished!!    I won this pattern during Project Quilting 15. It’s from Sara Goer and makes good use of kid themed novelty fabric.

My basement hallway design wall is dark. It’s been a dark, rainy, dreary week. Apologies!

On the bright side, my granddaughter and her family sent these, yesterday! Don’t they look pretty with my very busy and colorful hourglass runner?

Thursday 5-9-24……..tell us about your birthday!

I’ve been MIA for a couple of Thursdays! It’s just life, you know!

The prompt for this week is about birthdays. Sometimes we had parties, but not every year. But, my momma always baked a cake and served it on this cake stand.

I’m lucky enough to own it now!

We did not often have friend-attended parties. Sometimes a BFF got to spend the night!
We were poor, 4 kids, my dad owned a business that was seasonal. My mom didn’t work, until I was in high school. For many years as an adult we did family birthdays. A meal, small homemade kinds of presents, or books,  and a homemade cake or dessert of your choice. But my kids and husband did plan a surprise party for me when I turned 50! Friends and family, food and cake, balloons and decorations, that was very special!

Next weekend we will celebrate my oldest granddaughter daughter’s 39th birthday. It will be just local family, a meal( a cook-out if the weather cooperates) cards, small gifts and angel food cake with strawberries, her choice. It’s all about being together!

I took very few photos this week. It was rainy and dreary.

I finished this book! I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
One of the best books ever !

I have started this one on my Kindle app. Enjoying it , so far.  I’m only 8% in.

We watched a couple of “chick flicks”, Mr Busy calls them!

Anyone But You! A Rom/Com that was definitely hilarious and a bit risqué! Starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.

and

Katie Holmes and Josh Lucas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ predictable but good!

Both on Netflix.

Slow Sunday Stitching. Happy Cinco de Mayo

I’m joining Kathy and friends at Slow Sunday Stitching.

I got a few more stitches in The Winter SAL from Stitchonomy.  I am enjoying it a great deal. I’ve bout it away for now, it will come out again the week of the 19th to the 25th of May.

Sorry about the dark photo. We have sunshine today but also our infamous Wyoming Wind! It’s gusting to 32 mph. If I took it outside for a photo it could end up in  southern Montana! LOL!

I’m anxious to do the May motif for Woven Wreaths.

Kathy Schmitz released the short video for this SAL, but I haven’t taken time to watch it yet. I hope to do that today!

I finally broke down and ordered the called for count (36 ct linen) of fabric for The Equality Sampler.

You may recall I had it all gridded and started stitching on 18 ct Aida fabric. Which should  have worked. Until I came across half stitches for the lettering! No mater how I tried I couldn’t make the 1/2 stitches on Aida consistent enough for my liking. So now I start over!

I will put away the partial 1st try, to see if I can think of a way to use it without all the need for letters!
And get started on the new piece of fabric.

Lots of to-dos not any to-dones!
