It's April and there is another Table Scraps Challenge! This month's color is pink and the prompt from The Joyful Quilter is WORDS! Brain spinning!!!
These were turned into Zig Zag rows and Happy Blocks.
Then what to do. I have word fabric.
I have this book in my library. I've been wanting to try it!
At first I thought of a mug rug that looked like a WORDLE puzzle. I couldn’t come up with a plan. DRINK is a five letter word. But how to show the puzzle board. Too much for my brain and the time I had allotted. So I looked through Lori Holt's book. Looking at these examples I saw the word, “yum”! It’s not there, but all the components are!
I started to build the letters. They were bigger than I figured. Even this 3 letter word was going to be too big for the table next to my chair. What about another table, you say? Nope, none were just right! Then I had a light bulb moment. A casserole mat. I need one for my 9x13 pyrex dish. OK! Go Judy!!
16 or so, YouTube videos later.....and a search through my batting scraps ( I found the piece of InsulBrite, I knew was there somewhere). I started to layer. WOW, it’s really thick. Friday the 8th was a sunny shiny warm day with no wind. Perfect for spray basting out on the front deck. Done!
Sorry, no photos! I was on a roll!
I marked quilting lines 2" apart. Too far? Do it and then see if it needs more. It's Good! Boy, it is thick and puffy. I wonder if the scrappy binding that is already made will work? It did!
Done. Attached to the back and zigzagged to the front for strength, cause it's thick!!!! If I make another it will not be with 3 layers of batting. Two layers should work just fine!
And there are “words” and lots of scrappy pink!
It will be fun to use this summer. Pink is not a color that is in my home but it's OK!
Now, it has a label! Just a small crumb piece, written with purple Micron pen, a pinked edge, fused to the back. I don't label utilitarian pieces to keep for eternity, just for remembering. If the label comes off or washes off, I'll just redo it!
I big stitched in free form lines across. It was very thick so it was easy not to stitch to the other side. Very Sashiko-like. In light pink DMC floss and a brighter "HOT"pink.
I have this book, I had been wanting to try the technique. I need lots more practice.
I’m linking up with
