RSC21 ScrapHappy Saturday! Finishing Up Red

Today is the last Saturday for red sewing. I’m going to sort of cheat here. It’ll be a recap! I’ll link up with Angela at ScrapHappy Saturday!

There were hollow 9 patches and a promise of one more. You’ll have to trust me that the 5th one will get done.

There were red exclamation point blocks.

There was a red crumb table topper

And there is dark red binding going on a quilt!

This week I wanted to organize my solids. I never had very many, but in the process of making Geese Migration blocks, I added some fat quarters and chunks of solids will no real place to keep them all together. That project had me cleaning out a few drawers of my mother’s small sewing chest of drawers. That kind of put me in a melancholy funk! So I sorted, and shuffled for 2 1/2 days with no sewing accomplished!

Tomorrow is our youngest granddaughter’s birthday and that always makes me feel old. She’ll be 28. We used to call her Hollywood when she was little. She loved to pose for pictures. She was in a wedding a couple of weeks ago and there was quite the photo session happening!

So that was my week! Monday we will drive to SD to decorate our parents graves. We are the only ones close enough. It doesn’t seem like  people do that much anymore, but it was important to their generation. So we will make it happen.

Finished Or Not Finished Friday #56

This week I have a not yet finished and a completely finished.  The not yet quilt will be done before the end of the Memorial Day weekend. I'm linking up this post at Alycia Quilts, Finished or Not Finished Friday.

The finished little project is my May Red entry to Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quiilter. I will write a post specifically for that challenge. You can see it here.

The not yet finished is the binding on my Garlic Knots quilt. I started this as a Leader and Ender project a few years ago. Then I added a border to increase the size a bit. Now I have a place for it. It is going to our future grandson in law. He just completed his degree in business and has started a new job in Vermont. I felt a little quilt was in order. They can use it camping or attending music festivals or concerts or whatever.

It will be in my lap every time I sit down, til it's done!

Before the quilting!

After, Linnie quilted it. I need to call her and ask her the name of the pantograph. It looks nice on the straight linear blocks.

Table Scraps Challenge for May/Red~

First you find some red scraps, leftovers from another project.

Then you think Patriotic, cause Memorial Day is May and July 4th is coming. This from another project. Added pieces to make a backing for a pillow , then abandoned.

What do you do when you cut pieces wrong for the Exclamation Points for Full Stop Sampler?  Add them to the crumb scraps, of course.

Did I get a photo of the crumb slab.....nope!

Did I get a photo of the process to cut the circle....nope again. This little table topper is intended for the small round glass topped table beside my deck chair. I turned it upside down on a piece of poster board. Drew around it with a sharpie and cut it out!  Ragged at best. But then I used that poster board circle to cut the circle after I had quilted the sandwich with my go-to stitch, serpentine #4 on my Bernina.

Then I watched a video on how to fold a piece of fabric for a bias binding. Did I get a photo?  Nope!
But it went swimmingly and then I attached on the "back" and handstitched it down on the "front".

Now it is done, and it fits on the table on our deck.

This was intended to be the front. And I will use it as such for most of the summer.

But the back is pretty darn cute, so for Memorial Day, July 4th and even Labor Day I will use this side!  So a  win-win!  A reversible, usable table topper!

I'm linking up to Table Scraps Challenge over at The Joyful Quilter.  Check out the others. This linky party will be up the whole weekend to add your creations!

One Monthly Goal May Finish Link Up

My goal for May was to complete the baby quilt size of Follow Your Own Path at Sandra's QAL to at least a quilt top.

It is done to that point!

It is not quilted!  I have to wait til next month to be able to get it quilted.

I’m seriously considering using this orange minkee on the back!  Too much? The colors are pretty intense on the front!  Or maybe I will go to look for a flannel at JoAnns or Hobby Lobby. My choices are limited, this weekend. Our other LQS is closed for the Memorial Day holiday.

I LIKE Thursday #45

I’m joining friends at LeeAnna’s  blog, Not Afraid of Color ,to share some good stuff, some gratitude and even a bit of not good stuff with a positive outlook!

Last week the flowering crabapples were looking good! This beauty belongs to our neighbors across the street!

Last Thursday, my stitching group met at our library! Their trees looked good too!

A quilting/ stitching friend had a mishap! She is a Consumer Sciences teacher at one of our high schools. The class was making candy and she was helping a student pour the hot candy from pot to a sheet pan. Her hand slipped and went into the hot candy, 2nd degree burns! The left hand touched the pot. I haven’t seen pictures of her left hand. She reports that it’s feeling ok! Since she is off work, she and her husband are visiting family in Minnesota. She’s one tough ranch girl/teacher/ mom and new grandma. I’m glad she doing better!

I’m glad Mr Busy knows how to fix stuff. My shelf dumped my baskets of scraps. He built my shelves back when, so he has the knowledge to fix and hopefully improve the shelving system!

My SIL and brother are in Minnesota helping out with talking care of grandsons. Mom and Dad go back to work and new baby doesn’t have a daycare slot til first of July! Big brother likes to help grandma bake. They made cake pops! Even dad got in on the act! Probably eating, not so much baking! Although, both of my nephews are happy cooking and helping out in the kitchen.

Aside from the fact we are getting some rain as I type this on Wednesday afternoon, that’s my gratitude post!

Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge 2021!

I wanted to make a quilt. I wanted to support the Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge!

I started some blocks. I got this far!

Then we traveled to California  to spend the holidays with our son. On January 8th my sister passed away! We left CA on the 10th to drive home.  I knew I couldn’t  commit to Sarah that I would participate. What if I  had to go to be with my brothers. What if I there was a funeral to plan. What if I just couldn’t sew! What if I couldn’t find a quilter! What if’s.   So I did not sign up.

But my grief led me to my machine. And my blogger friends sent me good wishes. And I finished it just as one of my go to quilters arrived back home from wintering in Arizona.

I auditioned some backings.

I chose the first one.  It’s a warm rosy brown with peachy pink flowers and 2 tone green leaves. Just right. She was interested in building up her “ go to Houston ” fund. I gave her my quilt and a few days later it was quilted.

The kit and pattern had just enough fabric for an economy binding. I’d never done that before but it went well!

Finished ✅

And on my porch ready to be pick up by our mail person.

That view will make you dizzy!

On its way to Covered in Love in Texas. edit: Kat contacted me!  It arrived in Texas.  It’s a charity I have supported with blocks for the bi monthly block drives. Because I quilt by checkbook, I am not able to produce lots of charity quilts. But some. I’ve wanted to participate in Sarah’s Hands2Help for a few years. Well, I did support Jacks's Basket a year or two ago. I can quilt baby quilts on my DSM!  I'll do small quilts again.

I’ll link this post at Confessions of a Fabric Addict Hands2Help round up,  the end of May!
