January 2021 One Monthly Goal! Failed!!

My goal set on January 2nd, was to get all 19 hexies sewn together to finish the Christmas table topper top . I did not accomplish that. After learning of my sisters death on January 8th , I lost my motivation. All the hexies are basted to their foundations. Rows 1, 2, 3 and 4 are complete.

Row 5 has piece 1 and 2 together, but the last hexie is still unattached.  And now all rows need to be joined together. I find I can do one side of the hexie in about 20 minutes. Each side is 2 1/8”  It sounds like that should go quickly but tiny tiny ladder stitches take me longer. And after an hour of ladder stitching, my left thumb is complaining, so I need a break. Then getting back to it proves difficult.  I know I’m whining. I apologize!

Anyway you “spin it”, I failed at completing  my January OMG.  I will continue to work on it, and I’ll post as I make progress! I am linking up so you will know I did work on it but did NOT accomplish my goal.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge ~ Last of January's Pinks.

I'm linking up with Angela at So Scrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday's last pink Weekend.  I did get some pink sewing in this month.

There is a total of  5 more Hollow 9 patches to add to the ones I made in 2020.   And 2 large pink string blocks that will be donated to Covered in Love.

There was this cute mini runner that was completed for Table Scraps Challenge.

If you follow along, you'll know that I quilted it with a pale lavender thread, because there was no pink thread in my whole sewing area.  That is until yesterday, when my order came from Connecting Threads. The order came more quickly that I thought it would, but I am glad I didn't wait for it. I'd have been "busting my chops" to get it finished by the end of the month.

They are pretty though! I think I'll find a place to use them!

There may be one more Geese Migration block finished before tomorrow night. I found all the pieces in the zip lock bag in the box where I store my RSC blocks from last year. So I'll want to  finish that.

Table Scrapes Challenge. 2021. January

I wasn’t sure it I was going to be able to complete this first ever Table Scrapes Challenge hosted by Joy at The Joyful Quilter. I was away from my machine until January 13th. By the time I got home, and got  everything put away and an order of groceries picked up it was Saturday the 16th.   I decided to give it a try anyway!

As a Rainbow Scrap Challenge participant, we were to use the January color of the month, PINK. I have lots of valentines fabrics...pinks, reds, whites. Several years ago, I downloaded a free pattern from Cluck,Cluck, Sew. It’s called I Heart You mini! Bingo!

I got out my Scrappy Basket!  The Pink One!

And I found the pattern in my Table Runner notebook.

I pieced the mini heart runner and found a perfect backing. Lots of words. It says "Your My Type " with red and pink hearts.

What, no pink thread in my stash? Well , half a spool of hot pink! And a bobbin of baby pink that doesn't fit on my machine. Why do I keep bobbins from my ancient Singer (that I don't have anymore)? Maybe I'll use it to sew binding?

I ordered some from Connecting Thread......it won't get here on time........I found a spool of pale lavender. That will work.

So I pin basted and began.  Stipple or scribbles in the biggest heart.Yucky! Vertical loops in the second heart. Better. Tiny stipple in the smallest heart...can't see how messy it is!  The green heart got green thread echo quilting inside. It's my favorite one!

There are some bobbles in the quilting in the white part. I didn't mark anything. I used my walking foot as a guide and sometimes there was an oops!  But all in all, I am happy. The binding is the same fabric as the largest heart and goes perfect with the backing

Here it is on my buffet with every red candle I own!

I'm linking up with Table Scraps Challenge hosted by The Joyful Quilter. I hope you'll go check out everyone's first every challenge entry in this new event!  Thanks, Joyful!!!!

Finished or Not Finished Friday.....end of January

Well, I haven't posted here in a while. So you would assume I'd have a finish to share!  Not exactly.

It is a finish......but it looks like a "not finish"

Two pink ( its the RSC color and my scrap basket was already dumped)  string blocks with one contrast color.  They are trimmed to 13" and then "stay stitched" to keep the seams from coming open.

One with a little aqua strip

And one with a green strip.  In real life, the light pink gingham doesn’t look nearly so washed out!

These are for Covered In Love Jan/Feb String Block drive at Kat and Cat Quilts. I'll do 2 more when I find out the February color over at RSC21.  I'll be sewing in monthly colors it seems this year. That's fine with me.

And if you really want to see a finish, you might want to check out the Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quilter. She started taking link ups at 1:00 AM.!!

I LIKE Thursday #28

I'm joining others at Not Afraid of Color to share some "likes" from this week. It's a great motivator to find the gratitude in the small things. Hope on over to LeeAnna's blog and see what she's been up to and then check out the others in the listing on her page.

I like words mostly!  Uplifting thoughts,  praise, affirmations. (I'm not fond of bad words, but that goes without saying!)

I found this few on the internet this week. Two are from Bonnie Hunter's blog. She always makes a meme over quilt blocks! I love that!  And she willingly, eagerly says..."Yes, Share!"

I know this is true. Some people will never change their mind and it does no good to try!

Oh, how many times I have experienced this!! I need others to "hear me", not just have an answer!

And for sure!!!!! This one!

I like that our son keeps sending photos of Mt Shasta!  We miss that beautiful view.

I also like that he is sharing his new hobby.  While we were there, he and Mr Busy built this bench.

Now he has watched a myriad of YouTube videos and he has built a work bench in his garage.

Working on the floor....
to an old desk top on sawhorses....

to nearly finished. It's got wheels.

He's ready to start a project!  I'm pretty proud of him. He lives alone and figured out how to do this all with no help!

I also worked on a mini table runner for the Table Scraps Challenge..but you'll have to wait til Saturday to see if I finished it!

I know there were lots more things that happened that I like this week, but one thing that I don't like is the camera on my phone has quit recording. It snaps the picture, but it isn't saved any where. I know I need a new phone, but I'm reluctant to go to the phone store to get a new one.  Health wise and dollar wise!  Yikes!

Until next week,

To-Do Tuesday #24

I need to get back on track! So I’m back with a To-do list for next week.

To-Do Tuesday list for the week of Jan 26 - Feb 1, 2021

1. Continue to sew the hexie  table topper. It’s my OMG project for January and I’ll probably not get it done. It will be the first time I have not met the challenge since I started participating in January 2018.  That makes me sad.

2. Quilt to the best of my ability I Heart You mini table runner for the Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quilter. Pink thread is on order, but won’t be here in time. I found a spool of pale lavender that I will try. If it doesn’t work, I'll opt for white and just “ get ‘er done!”

And one non sewing task.

3. Call our new prescription provider regarding getting prescriptions filled. I hate this kind of task!

I'm linking up with To-Do Tuesday at Home Sewn By Us. Thank you Roseanne and Sue for this fun linky party. It really does help me to have a list and to be accountable to "someone"!

ps: Mr Busy and I got our first COVID-19 vaccine on Friday afternoon. There was a clinic put on by our Public Health office and held at our Senior Center. For all seniors 70 and over. No problems or adverse reactions. The calendar is marked for #2 on the 19th of February!

Staying in the pink!

This week has been hit and miss in the sewing room! I cut some more 2 inch pink squares for

Hollow 9s

and I cut fabric for the binding for the I Heart You mini runner!

Even the Otterbox  case on my phone is pink!  I’m waiting on pink thread to quilt it. So it’ll probably not be finished by January 31st! Sigh!!

And I started 2 string blocks with pop of contrasting color, for Covered in Love’s January- February block drive.

I don’t have a lot of pink strings that are long enough for these 14 “ squares, but I can cut into some chunks from my pink scrap basket!

When you put all the pinks together, you have such a variety. From palest baby pink to salmon, to dusty rose to hot pink, almost red! And I have lots of chunks of pink!

I'm linking up with the linky party for RSC21 at Angela's blog, So Scrappy!  Join us there, to peruse and maybe join in the fun!.

I LIKE THURSDAY #27

I’m sharing my likes , with others  at  Not Afraid of Color . Thank you LeeAnna for hosting this place for us to share with others,

This has been a difficult two weeks for me! I’m finding it hard to stay “on task”.  On Saturday the 9th, while still in California, I received a call from my brother to tell me that my sister had died the night before. I am so sad.

We enjoyed our last few days with our son. We watched AWAY on Netflix.

If you are a Hillary Swank fan or if you like movies about space, you’ll like this one! I give it 5  ⭐️ s.

I baked another batch of his (our son’s) favorite cookies!

There were some “likes” that happened as we traveled  home to Wyoming , the 11th -13th.

We had great weather☀️ mostly! Though it was foggy as we drove past Mt Shasta.

We had no  ðŸš— issues or accidents! The day after we got home we had high winds. 79 mph in our city, 102 mph in Cheyenne WY.

                                                             Sorry, I had to share!

We arrived home to a huge stack of mail, thank goodness for my wonderful neighbor, Becky, who took in our mail and watered my plants. My Christmas cactuses were in full bloom.

This one was left in my care by my granddaughter. She’ll be back to get it! Soon I hope!

My oldest cactus. A gift years ago from my sister!

We caught the puzzle bug while in California. And finally got this one done when we got home.  It was attempted a couple of years ago, then put back in the box in frustration!

I was able to start a small “table runner”......

Mr Busy’s siblings and their spouses sent me these flowers.

And yesterday, the best thing!  We have a new President and Vice President! My sister was glad the election went the way it did, I’m sorry she didn’t get to see the inaugural festivities.

President Joseph R. Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.

Vice President  Kamala D. Harris and First Gentleman Douglas Emhoff.
