No 2022 Rainbow Finish so ……A New Way to Be Scrappy!

For the last 5 years I have participated in Angela’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge in an effort to sew up my scrappy stash. I have enjoyed each and every year, but I rarely had a finish.

In 2018, I made crumb blocks and assembled them into Precarious.

It still needs to be quilted!

RSC 2019  was Bowtie Blocks, Sprout Blocks, Tiny Tuesdays and Garlic Knots from Leaders and Enders!

RSC2020  I started Hollow 9's and Geese Migration Blocks. I made Rainbow Colored Scrap baskets and started a different Leader and Ender project, Easy Breezy!

RSC 2021. Full Stop from Angela , Growing Up Odd blocks and more Hollow Nines!

This year 2022, there  were Fall colored strings from emptying a tote of strings, ZigZag rows , some tiny Pieces In the Garden Blocks from Melva Loves Scraps, more Rainbow strings, Happy Blocks and a new Leaders and Enders from Bonnie Hunter, Triple Treat!

Phew!

So now I have flimsies, and project boxes full, though not only from RSC blocks. Some are other quilts started because !!! Not many finished quilts. In 2023 I hope to remedy that!

This my plan.  I have built an Excel spreadsheet that lists all the months and a place to enter the color picked by Angela.  Then there is an empty column for any notes. UFOs are numbered ( there are 20!) in the next 2 columns, and each of them has been assigned a color by random. Then a column with a quick description of what the UFO needs to be done.   Lastly there is a place to list the Table Scraps Challenge hosted by Joyful Quilter, using the monthly color. Last year, Joyful gave us a prompt. This year the prompts will occur again. Although I am expecting some uniquely creative prompts!

I was hoping to insert the file as a photo here, but I’m not as skilled at merging Blogger with Excel as I had hoped! So I hope you can sort of tell by this photo of my laptop screen.

Hopefully this will be a way to participate in the monthly color and yet complete my many UFO's. I'm going to try to keep this up on my laptop. But I may end up printing it and hanging it in my sewing room as a more VISUAL reminder.  I'll see how well I do with it just on the Mac for now.

Table Scraps Challenge ~ December combined with November!

You may remember my November Table Scraps Challenge Here.  It was unfinished!

I have continued to stitch in short bursts. The tugging of the needle through the lapped pieces and batting continues to hurt my hand. I have not researched the tools I saw in the video.

But December’s challenge was Rainbow  Stars!   So if you look closely at the center scrap added last to this Kawandi mug mat , you will see stars in rainbow colors. My original scrap was this,

then with the help of some markers that in found in DS’s “junk” drawer, you get Rainbow Stars!

Also some rainbow threads. It was lots of fun using up some unidentified colored from a drawer in my late Mom’s sewing cabinet! ❤️❤️ There was embroidery floss and different weights of perle cotton.

I’m linking up with Table Scraps Challenge hosted by The Joyful Quilter. This is the last Challenge link up for 2022. I’m writing this on Monday, December 26, I’ll edit it with the link as soon as I can on the 30th. I hope Joy will post that she will again be hosting Table Scraps Challenge in 2023. It’s been so much fun!

Edit: YAY! There will be Table Scraps Challenge 2023!

I LIKE Thursday ~ New Beginnings!

Last week I talked about this  chocolate liqueur.

It’s yummy over ice cream. Vanilla or Caramel Swirl! Also very special in Christmas morning coffee with a dollop of whipped cream!

We have watched a second episode of 1923. Now all of us are looking at a Dutton Family Tree to figure out how each character is related to the present day Duttons.

Christmas Day , we watched a dismal Bronco v Rams football game. We are Bronco fans and it’s been a disappointing season to say the least! We ate from a charcuterie board while watching the game. You may remember, I was all for easy! Then we watched How the Grinch Stole  Christmas

and finished with Glass  Onion, a Knives Out Mystery ! Very good!

I received 3 new books for Christmas, so you will hearing about those.

I also got an electric wine bottle opener,

so we tried it out with this wine

and a homemade taco pizza! Both yummy!

I’ve baked more cookies in the last 5 weeks than I have in the last year. Here is the latest dozen.

Oatmeal Raisin!

The current PROMPT  is: Do you want to learn or try something new?  YES!

Knitting socks.  I am not a novice knitter, but socks are intimidating me. I ripped out my previous start and will start again. I have a private (almost)  tutor,  so there are really no excuses.

Ready to begin again!

Junk Journal. I have been wanting to start this for some time. Seeing LeeAnna’s Art and also Joy’s creations,( check out one of her posts here) got my juices flowing again. When I am back with my supplies, I am going to dive-in.
I’ll need, paper, glue, scissors, junk(ephemera), stickers, paint, markers, colored pens, pencils, even lace, buttons, fabric scraps! I got this! Haha!

And , of course….

TO-DO Tuesday #120

I'm joining Linda at Texas Quilt Gal to share my list of to-dos and show you all the progress or lack there of that was made!!  This is Linda's last day to host To Do Tuesday. Thank you Linda for making this a fun and safe place to come to share our successes and failures. I know you pass the baton to a very capable successor. Carol, welcome!  Looking forward to visiting your blog and the others in January. Quilt Schmilt-For the Love of Fabric

Last week
Dec 20 - 26

1. Work on Kawandi mat. ✅

It is done. See my post on Friday at The Joyful Quilter's Table Scraps Challenge link-up. I'll edit this link when Joy goes live.

2. Maybe cross stitch Christmas guest towels. ⁉️ I started but did not bring the correct floss with me.  I'm short maybe 7 skeins for the chart I decided to do. I have tons at home and am not willing to purchase more when I already own some. It it too late for Christmas giving anyway....so next Christmas is the goal.

3. Christmas Eve movie date. ✅

We were all in agreement!  We give it ★★★★★

4. Find a recipe for mulled cider for Christmas Eve. ✅

This recipe looks like one I could duplicate:  Bobby Flay's Mulled Cider . I like Bobby Flay's other recipes.  A neighbor brought spiced cider to share, so it wasn't necessary for me to make my own.  We enjoyed.

Next week
Dec 27 - January 2

1. Start my new book for

2. Keep stitching on Autumn Stamps

3. Try to start knitting a sock!

4. Write my plan for 2023 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!

Stay Busy and Stay Happy and Healthy and Hopeful !

December One Monthly Goal Finish

Wednesday, Dec 7

The stitching is done and I am extremely pleased. I did take a bit of creative license at the end. The motif in the bottom right corner was a brown card with the wrapped candy overlapping . It was just a brown square. I added the year and my rendition of a sprinkling of stars. I usually sign and dated my “stitches” so all I had to do was add my initials in the left bottom corner. DH and DS think it should be a pillow. (Which I find odd, coming from a guy, Mr Busy, who doesn’t like pillows on the sofa or the bed). I think a perfect frame would be awesome. We’ll see if I can find “the perfect frame”!

December 18th

And a bonus goal, that I didn’t post. I started a set of these felt ornaments while at our son’s house last year. I got his done,
The deer stays at DS’s house.

but the other five were in various states of completion. Now they are done, but not in time to mail off for Christmas 2022.

These were intended for DD and one granddaughter and family. Now, I will add other two granddaughters and families, to be fair all around. So….Watch for them on a new OMG for 2023. At least, I hope Patty will be hosting OMG for 2023!!

I LIKE Thursday ~ Traditions!

Happy Thursday Morning!
It’s 38 degrees here, -23 back in Wyoming with a -48 wind chill!!!!

Last weekend DS and I made a big pot of Green Chicken Enchilada soup and invited the next door neighbors for supper. They came with a Marionberry pie and some spirits.  DS and the NG (neighbor guy) are bourbon drinkers. The tall bottle is called ZEN de la crème, it is not bourbon, but a chocolate liquor that is distilled at the Denny Bar Distillery that I wrote  about here.

From experience, I will tell you that is awesome over vanilla ice cream!  I want to try it in coffee, but I usually don’t do late night coffee, so maybe a brunch coffee!

The tree is decorated and a few packages are under it. We enjoy it every evening.

I mentioned in an early post that Mr Busy and DS were doing a wood project  in the garage . These are Christmas presents that were produced. Cheese slicing boards! Aren’t they gorgeous?

We have been watching:

Dec 16.  ~ BLACK ADAM with Dwayne Johnson. A superhero movie. DD’s pick to watch on her birthday! We all thought she’d choose It’s A Wonderful Life!

1923 on Paramount+. The sequel to 1883 and the prequel to Yellowstone. It is very good so far. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren! How could it be bad?

And just the 3 of us are watching ECHO 3  on Apple+. It is intense and dark!

LeeAnna suggested a prompt for this week of traditions.  When she mentioned  it, I immediately thought,  “this family has lots of traditions.”   But as I think about it now, so many don’t exist anymore. For as long as I can remember as a child, there was traditional oyster stew and ham for sandwiches on Christmas Eve, followed by sharing of gifts from around the tree. Then Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at our church. When we arrived home, Santa had left special presents under the now empty tree,! Magical!

This Christmas Eve there will be no oyster stew. Instead, a pot of chili will be waiting for us when we come back from attending a Christmas Eve afternoon showing of Avatar. Just Mr Busy, DS and me. The rest of our family is somewhere else. Christmas Morning we will unwrap the gifts that we have. We haven’t talked about a Christmas Day dinner, but I’m all for relaxed and laid back!

I’m sharing with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color

Working toward a Christmas finish!

My almost finish this week!  The Christmas Critters are just about done. Bear and Hedgehog are only lacking a gold hanging loop. I’ll do that step when all 5 are completed.

I’m stitching the front and back together with a blanket stitch. These ornaments are open at the top and could hold a small candy cane, a folded $5 bill, a gift card fits also! Working on Squirrel,  and Fox and Bunny are patiently waiting their turn. These little ornaments are kits from Rachel of Greenfield and I purchased them last year from   Jacquelyn Steve’s shop. She is sold out currently, but I would assume she will have more later. Or you can purchase on Amazon. No affiliation, just information!

I’m linking this short post with Alycia at Finished or Not Finished Friday and Can I Get a Whoop Whoop
Hosted by Sara of Confessions of a Fabric Addict.
