Slow Sunday Stitching. 9-7-25

Guess what I’m slow stitching today?   It’s a kitten. 

The backstory involves a very busy, could be neurodivergent 9 yr old. She asked me to teach her to knit. Now I haven’t knit anything in over 20 years. I needed to study up. She wasn’t able to sit still long enough to really watch me. Also I needed more time. So we made a deal. Gramma will knit the square, she will stuff it, and glue on the face pieces. She’s ok with that and so am I. She did roll the yarn into balls. And she counted the cast on stitches to make sure there was the correct amount.

I have also started a new cross stitch. It’s THANKFUL from Heart in Hand. It was given to me by a friend. 

I’m just getting started. The pattern calls for 36 ct linen,  over 2 threads using 1 strand. I didn’t like it, so I took out the turkey head and started on the body with 2 threads. I have 28 ct linen. I’m also using DMC conversion colors. The pattern uses Classic Colorworks and Weeks Dye Works.  My math says it will be 4.5”X 4.5 “ design area. It’s kind of little. I like it.

1. Work on Kawandi mat. ✅

2. Maybe cross stitch Christmas guest towels. ⁉️ I started but did not bring the correct floss with me.  I'm short maybe 7 skeins for the chart I decided to do. I have tons at home and am not willing to purchase more when I already own some. It it too late for Christmas giving anyway....so next Christmas is the goal.

3. Christmas Eve movie date. ✅

We were all in agreement!  We give it ★★★★★

4. Find a recipe for mulled cider for Christmas Eve. ✅

This recipe looks like one I could duplicate:  Bobby Flay's Mulled Cider . I like Bobby Flay's other recipes.  A neighbor brought spiced cider to share, so it wasn't necessary for me to make my own.  We enjoyed.

Scrap Happy Saturday..November 5th

I’m linking up with Angela at So Scrappy. Please take a minute or more likely an hour to check out what everyone else is doing in this new month. It’s sure to be fabulous! 

My week, not so much! 

It’s supposed to be dark neutrals~~ nope

Then, I should be finishing a quilt top ~~ nope,! 

Instead, a sort of unplanned project. 

A need to have a smallish project for my retreat. A promise made. Both resulted in a cute little table topper. 

I rummaged through my Christmas fabric. The reds  in most of my fabric were slightly different  than the reds in this collection from Bunny Hill Designs. It’s called “I Believe in Angels”

I settled on this very different but very pretty fabric for the back. And it could qualify for neutral! "wink"

It just need a tiny bit of straightening. And a chunk of batting was found, then just enough of this red and white stripe for binding.

Today, I hope to be able to move my car out of the garage, put an old plastic tablecloth down and spray baste. Then I can get to the quilting. I’ve made it my November OMG. We will be leaving home for the holidays,  so finishing anything bigger is not going to happen. If I can get the quilting accomplished and the binding attached to the front. I can sew the binding down in the car on our way to our son's for Thanksgiving. And I can post a finished OMG!!

Then:

At retreat, I had a lesson from a very able teacher on making socks using the Magic Loop method. I need to put her number in my phone….so I call if I need help! I have a video to watch too. We were tasked with having six inches done by Thursday the 10 th and I can’t remember which needle becomes my right hand needle! Duh!
