A Final Look at Purple!

Just a final look at some purple sewing for July! I’m sharing on ScrapHappy Saturday  ! Angela hosts this great party! It’s a favorite of mine!

Purple/neutral HST turned into zigzags! ⤵️

There was some purple sewn on the Triple Treat blocks, my current Leader and Enders project.⤵️

⤵️Two Ballerina Kittens got purple frames!

And Jasmine and a Fairy Godmother !

There was the purple circle fiasco! ⬇️

And then there was this!  I didn’t make this! It came in the mail! A beautiful purple floral heart, a tiny pinwheel on that fabulous Tula Pink fabric I’ve been admiring on Diann’s blog! Bound in a great purple! The execution is perfection and the sentiment behind it is priceless! It was just what I needed this week! A lovely thank for a wonder clip cushion I sent to her.  Thank you Diann for your friendship.

Table Scraps Challenge. Purple, circles, dots and spots

I had an idea! I wasn’t sure I had the time! I wasn’t sure just how to.go about it! So I bailed!!!

My go-to method of using scraps is to make crumb blocks! So I did! Did I take photo ? No, cause I was in the “zone”. Then I knew I could cut “ circles” from the crumb squares! So I found some scrap batting and a great piece of spotted purple batik for the backing..

Quilt all four to one piece of backing fabric. Use dark purple almost royal purple to make wavy lines. Easy peasy, no problem!

Again no photos til this :

The purple spotted backing!

From the front, minus the “coasters”. You get the idea!
Then how to finish. Bias binding was a necessity, I thought. I have a fancy dancy specialty ruler! I cut purple spotted fabric. And attached it!

Yuck!

Wonky, ugly and with all the corrections…I ran out of cut fabric! I will take these apart at a later date
( when I am bored) and recut the binding pieces to something narrower.

I took the naked one and found some skinny premade lavender bias tape in my stash. This worked, but again, I did it twice and the second time it was short a smidge! Why is that? I think my circle seam allowance was too big, making for a different circumference. Does that make sense?

Note the dark purple patch.  Oy vey! It was a mess!

So now you know the “rest of the story”!

And I will be glad to go into August with a clean cutting table , a new color ( now I know it’s orange) and a new “prompt”!

So now, click on over to The Joyful Quilter and see the other fabulous finishes for Table Scraps Challenge for Purple, Circles and Dots for July! Thank you, Joyful, for all the work you do to keep this party going!
See you in August with a new attitude!

I LIKE Thursday. #104 Summer Uniform!

I’m joining LeeAnna and some other blogging friends at Not Afraid of Color  to share some things I love. LeeAnna has changed it up a bit and is providing some prompts for the weekly offerings.

Today’s is
What’s your summer “uniform”?
What do you usually wear this season?

Oh boy!  Not sure you all are going to like what this old lady wears.  I wear only capri's. No shorts!!  I don't have the "thighs" for shorts!  I hate the way my knees look!!!!

I wear almost any brand. LEE is a favorite. These skimmers are  as close to shorts as I get..
I tried to include a photo, but…..Lee’s website didn’t want to share....I like this color, it's called "rainy day", but mostly I buy black, navy, or white.

I wear t-shirts usually. I have a ton. I did buy a new Sunflower one after seeing The Joyful Quilter's.

And this one from a local boutique.   Peace, Love and Bison.

I’m an old “hippie “ of sorts. So the Peace symbol and the heart appealed to me. The bison is representative of our state, so there was that!

This was shared by our daughter. I makes me giggle, under my breath. The sentiment is funny, the goring of tourists at Yellowstone National Park is not funny!!

Between May 30th and June 29th, 3 people where gored by bison. One fatally! If you visit, and you definitely should come see this awesome National Park. Stay away from the wildlife, please.

This week our youngest granddaughter is visiting.

She’s here!

TO-DO Tuesday #98. Oh My Heck!

My post was almost ready!  I was selecting a text to make it purple. I clicked on "select", the whole post highlighted and my finger bounced! Poof the whole post was gone!!  GROAN!!

Take Two!

Linda@ Texas Quilt Gal is our hostess today and every Tuesday as we share to-do-lists and hoped for goals.  Check out all the posts at Linda's Linky Party to see what everyone has accomplished.

Last week:

1. Sew the last two Happy Blocks that are cut.  ✅

Two little kitty ballerinas!

2. Work on Table Scraps: purple circles, or dots or spots ✅

I'm so disappointed in how these "coasters" turned out!.  I tried a bias binding. But it was awful. I think it was too big. I think it needed to be narrower to start. I will probably do it over.  Watch for my full disclosure post at The Joyful Quilter this coming weekend.

3. Write an OMG finish post. ✅  It is done and posted HERE

4. Clean off the cutting table, while continuing to cut parts for Triple Treat. ✅

This is as good as it gets. I had a project I wanted to cut before our granddaughter's visit. We will be much too busy for me to be in the sewing room.

Next Week:

1. Enjoy time spent with daughter, both granddaughters and great grandkids.

2. Get a post ready for Table Scrap Challenge link up the end of the month.

3. Make sure all the pieces and supplies are ready for Sew Day with Loose Threads, on August 4th.

OMG Finish Link up! July 25!

My One Monthly Goal/ OMG for July was to make ten more green/ neutral HSTs from the May RSC color of the month, and sew them into a zigzag row . In addition I needed to make 24 HSTS in purple/neutral  for July and get them together for the purple zigzag row.

Here is the green row

And the purple row!

I'm linking up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts for the final linkup for July!

I LIKE Thursday #103

Today I’m joining LeeAnna and friends at  Not Afraid of Color to share some thing from the last few days that made me smile! Or feel gratitude! Click on over to Not Afraid of Color to see links to what others are sharing.

When our son visited over the 4th of July he brought me a gift! A cutting board that he made himself! I was so touched and grateful! A really good cutting board makes cutting veggies much more fun!

When we watch TV in our family room, our daughter’s cat has finally decided to join us. He still is a bit confused as to what that big piece of furniture is! He can see his reflection and wonders about that “other cat!”

We have been watching The Terminal List starring Chris Pratt on Amazon Prime.

It is so good. Very intense. It may not be to everyone’s liking, but Mr Busy and son like action thrillers. This one certainly fills the bill.  Based on a book by Jack Carr! Our daughter has picked up a copy at the library.

I started this book. Recommended by my daughter. It’s slightly different than my recent reads.

But very compelling!

Sharing a few photos sent by our son. Last week, he discovered what he thought was a dead rabbit in his yard.  When he got closer, he discovered it was a dead newborn fawn. Maybe even a miscarriage. He was upset by this.  Early this week, he found this baby in the bushes beside his carport.

And then later discovered a second fawn. The 2nd photo is a bit blurry. Taken through the window so as not to frighten the babies.

Then the bucks showed up in his back yard.  One tagged, the other not tagged. He sees bucks and does often, but the sighting of the babies was a treat. Of course, mama and babies have relocated. They don’t stay around when the big bucks appear.

They are enjoying the cool grass, it seems.

And maybe the most fun thing is my new printer arrived!  Ahead of schedule!!

I could not use my old printer to print from my new MacBook. So now that problem is solved. It is set up, and I have printed 3 test documents!  A Test page, a counted cross stitch pattern and an email from my iPad!  I'm a happy girl!!

New Weekly Prompt!  Kitchen gadget that does what it’s paid for!

My all time favorite! This Pampered Chef chopper! I can’t do onions without it. And no’ I do not use it on the new cutting board from our son! :)

Thanks for visiting and please head over to LeeAnnas at Not Afraid of Color to check out the other I Like Thursday posts.

TO DO Tuesday # 97

My short list was accomplished, just in the nick of time! I’m sharing over at Texas Quilt Gal! Thanks Linda for continuing to host this event!

1. Purple HST ✅

2. Purple Happy Blocks. ✅ only 3 but there will be 5

3. At least two Triple Treat blocks that are the current L&E block from Bonnie Hunter. ✅

These will be on going. They take some time. I don't love cutting tiny 1.5" squares for the 4-patches.

My to-do list for the week of 7-19 to 7-26 is short also.  We have added going to Rec Center to our agenda. We walk in the Lazy River M.W. F.

1. Sew the last two Happy Blocks that are cut.

2. Work on Table Scraps: purple circles, or dots or spots

3. Write an OMG finish post.

4. Clean off the cutting table, while continuing to cut part sfor Triple Threat.
