OMG. Finish Link Up. June

My OMG goal was to get the zig zag rows sewn together. As I added them into twosies and then joined those (there are ten colors) I realized the quilt was going to be very long and sort of skinny!. I have decided to add some borders on the sides only.  I have received lots of support and some suggestions. In an effort to use up what I have, I am leaning toward a 4 1/2" unfinished border on the right side and a 8 1/2" unfinished one to the left side. Asymmetrical for sure. 

A dark purple or red solid! The borders will be the same color on both sides. Since it is for my great granddaughter, I’m leaning towards the purple. And now that I am looking at it on the floor, I think I'll add 6 1/2 " borders to each side. I think I have enough. 

But my goal of getting all the zig zag rows together happened. A sight pivot before it is truly a flimsy needing batting and backing! If this had not been my OMG, I may not have continued! So thanks, Patty and Anne-Marie!

TO-DO Tuesday. June 20th

 I'm joining Carol at Quilt Schmilt and friends to share my to-dos from last week. It felt like I was spinning my wheels, but when I looked at my list, there are some check marks. I’ll link with Carol when her post goes live. 

Last week 

6-13-23 to 6-19-23

1. Sew Zig Zag Rows together ✅

Trying to decide on a long quilt and make it wider with borders or two baby quilts! I think I have decided to go with the long one. 

2. Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL final post of finished flimsy 6-15 ✅

3. Spring Stamps stitching done. ✅

I will leave the fabric extenders on until I decide how to to finish it. 

4. Father’s Day Pizza Party!✅ not a single photo was taken. Our granddaughter and her family moved into a new house. Not NEW NEW but new to them. They were exhausted, so we just had a low key, laid back,  pizza out of the box and paper plates party.  Our daughter came home and brought her dad this shirt! 

He thought it was pretty cool!!

 

5. Maybe get binding attached to Long May She Wave and Growing Up Odd! I’m thinking red on both, but I might choose navy blue for the patriot LMSW!❌ 

I layed out the patriotic one and decided it's binding should be red. I don't have enough of the red that is in the stars, but I have one that is very close.  Growing Up Odd is getting a dark red or burgundy binding. Both are cut and joined together. but not attached to the quilt yet. See #4 below. 

Next week 

 June 20th - June 26th

1. Add side borders to Rainbow zigzags . 

2. Find a backing for RBZZ! 

3. Get a backing constructed for Rainbow Neighbourhood throw. 

4. Put the ironing board in the laundry room. Then……

                           Move all necessary boxes and totes, pull my machine out away from the wall in      

                  preparation to adding binding. 

5. Actually attach binding to 2 quilts!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge Light Blue UFO's

Linking up with Angela for ScrapHappy Saturday this morning! I’m so glad to be a part of this group, encouraged by her and others to use up the scraps! Now that I’m actually finishing the rainbows it’s such a good feeling. Thanks again Angela! I’m glad I found you! 

I did get most of the rows of zig zags sewn together. I’m thinking of finishing it for my great granddaughter for her birthday! It’s kind of tall and skinny though. There are two parts here. The red through dark green rows and the aqua through purple rows. If I sew the two parts together, it’s 48x 80. I could separate the green rows, add the dark green to the aqua, blues and purple. And make two baby sized quilts.  Or I could add 12”  to the sides to make it 60 x 80, which is bigger than a throw, but smaller than a twin. Maybe 1st grader girl size for in their new house? Any opinions?

June RSC 23

This year I am finishing up UFO’s or as in May, moving them toward the finish line. 

My spreadsheet has two quilts listed for Light Blue! 

My ZigZag quilt: 

The rows are all together, so I just need to sew them together, find a suitable backing and get batting. Then an appointment with the long arm quilter. That seems to be my biggest obstacle this year. They are all so busy, or have stopped quilting for others. 

And Tiny Tuesday:

This needs backing, batting and quilted also! 

And so what do I do, I’m making a house quilt!!. Throw size, so maybe I can quilt it myself! 😳

Blocks are done, Im auditioning sashing and border fabric! Unsuccessfully, I might add!

June One Monthly Goal Link Up Post

It's the first of June. Summer is upon us!  My UFO list is looming.  At the beginning of the year I listed all the UFO's that I remembered and had run across ( there could be some hiding that I have totally forgotten about). I then assigned them all a color, randomly!  When the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color is announced at So Scrappy, I work on that UFO, rather than starting a new project or adding blocks to my already overflowing project boxes. June was announced as Dark and Bright Blue. I did that color in January, so I will chose light blue.  One of the UFO's on my list under Light Blue is a ZigZag quilt.  My task is to turn the blocks into a flimsy/quilt top.  

This is the project box. I have a photo on my phone of how Diann at Little Penguin Quilts layed hers out. That is my OMG!  To get these rows into a flimsy. And if I get a backing constructed and batting purchased, all the better. To get it quilted will be a challenge. I am at the mercy of the long armer's schedule. We will see.

Bright green October’s 2nd Saturday

Happy blocks, HST and some 2 1/2” squares! 

 The light/bright green zigzag row is ready! Now it’s time to lay it out and get it together! Should I do it ROYGBIV?  If I do, then where does aqua and the pink go and there are 2 greens……I’ll get it figured out! 

And there are 4 happy blocks to add to the collection. Did you notice the green parallelogram?  HST cut too small! (Head slap)

And I hoped to get to this stack of squares and rectangles this weekend!  

I was going to make that happen today, but Mr Busy needs to drive to Rapid City SD to buy some supplies for the airplane he is re-building. He offered me a stop at one of the quilt shops as a bribe. But I need nothing, so we will go, maybe take a drive through Spearfish Canyon to see the fall colors also! Who turns down a drive through the Black Hills of South Dakota?

TO-DO Tuesday!

Seems like last week was a blur! I’m joining Linda at Texas Quilt Gal and sharing my to- do list from last week. It was a short list, and I made progress on all four items. You can check out my progress , then log in to Linda’s Linky party to peek in some other blogger’s progress. Or link up your own! 

✅1. Keep working on the scrap tote. Some fabric just doesn't fit into a color family, so I will have some multi colored strings with a consistent cream center diagonal!

I’ve got lots of dark, brown scraps!

 I stirred the tote, when I put in a new bobbin. Still lots of darks, but every once in awhile a pop of orange or purple or aqua!  I’m just reaching in and sewing the one I pull out. The only time I discard it is if the strip isn’t long enough or it the same fabric as the adjoining strip!

As of Tuesday am, the 13th

These 14 in addition to the four above, for a total of 18.  I think I need at least 48! I wonder if I can get 30 more? 

✅2. Half square triangles into a Zigzag Row.  Done!

✅3. Finish the first O in BOO CREW and start the second O!

The first “O” is complete. The second “O” is a caldron, almost done! 

I really need to think about finding a different hoop. This will press out, but it sure looks bad!

✅4. Give some thought to Light Blue and Pumpkins!!! For the Table Scraps Challenge
 I have an idea 💡!



Next week's goals look very similar!

1. Make as many string blocks as possible: the end of the month is in sight!  I need at least 48.

2. Actually start on a Table Scraps project. 

3. Keep stitching Boo Crew!

4. Get binding ready for PopStar.....the quilter will take it next Thursday, the 22nd. 

5.  Begin cutting fabric for Alycia's QOV Mystery.

Light Blue ScrapHappy Saturday! Welcome September

I did dig out the scrappy blue blasket. But only these four Happy Blocks were completed.  

HSTs were sewn but not yet cut apart and trimmed and pressed open. I really wanted to have them on the design wall. But life sometimes gets in the way.

To Do Tuesday. Setting Some New Goals

Aug 23-Aug 29

1. Sew orange and neutral HSTs into a row and make a ScrapHappy Saturday post!

2. Make 4 orange string blocks.

There are FIVE!

3. Keep sewing on Triple Treat the Leaders and Enders project. 

I’ve mostly been sewing twosies of 1 colored 1.5” square and 1 neutral 1.5” square. They are then combined into a 4 patch that is 2.5”. Each Triple Treat takes 3 four patches. It’s a slow process.

4. Monday is my annual Medicare wellness exam! I hope I pass!

 Rescheduled by the clinic at 8:15 AM Monday.  I see an APRN, and one of her kiddos was sick. So now I have to wait til Sept 14th. 

Next Week

August 30 -  September 5

1. Sew light blue strings and crumb blocks

2. Keep stitching. Boo Crew!

3. Plan birthday party for great grandson! 9 is Huge!  

4. Decide on One Monthly Goal for September!

Scrap Happy Saturday. The Orange Finale!

I know! My title sounds like it should be epic! But, sadly, it is not!  I'm linking up with Angela's Linky Party anyway! 

Orange and neutral HSTs are on the design wall!

And four happy blocks got added to the mix. 

Not much for a month’s worth of work. But there was icky-ness, and company and then there was housework that seemed overwhelming. And cooking and laundry and blog-reading! 

So, at least some orange was used. 

The rest of the month, I’ll build string blocks or crumb blocks! Cause I must!

A Final Look at Purple!

Just a final look at some purple sewing for July! I’m sharing on ScrapHappy Saturday  ! Angela hosts this great party! It’s a favorite of mine!

Purple/neutral HST turned into zigzags! ⤵️

There was some purple sewn on the Triple Treat blocks, my current Leader and Enders project.⤵️

⤵️Two Ballerina Kittens got purple frames! 

And Jasmine and a Fairy Godmother ! 

There was the purple circle fiasco! ⬇️

And then there was this!  I didn’t make this! It came in the mail! A beautiful purple floral heart, a tiny pinwheel on that fabulous Tula Pink fabric I’ve been admiring on Diann’s blog! Bound in a great purple! The execution is perfection and the sentiment behind it is priceless! It was just what I needed this week! A lovely thank for a wonder clip cushion I sent to her.  Thank you Diann for your friendship.
