November Scrap Happy Saturday

Because I turned the RSC upside down this year, by finishing UFO’s , I guess I’ll spend the “ Finishing Months” starting something new.  Actually it’s a kit from my stash so I guess it’s actually a ufo also. 😀

The kit was given to me and it’s all fallish!

There are pumpkins and sunflowers, leaves and a wild floral!

The pattern photo showed a plaid pumpkin. I’m a plaid lover! But no plaid fabric was included in this particular kit. So I went to my brown+ fall basket, and voilà! I found a plaid that will be perfect.

It will certainly be colorful!

In reading the pattern, I think I found an error. I logged on to the website but the kit is no longer available. I did not contact the shop. I’ll just start putting it together, step by step and see what happens. The error is definitely fixable. The pattern says make 4 stems for the leaves. I count 8 leaves, so 8 stems. No big deal. The only problem is it needs a bias tape maker for the stems and I don’t own one. I’ll put out the word, I’m sure someone in my group has one I can borrow. Or I’ll hit JoAnns.

ScrapHappy Saturday Oct 14

Very little machine sewing this week. I was trying to get pieces ready for a Stitch Along happening on Monday, the 16th.

Tuesday was my annual Medicare appointment with yet another different doctor! But good news is I liked her. She’s a geriatric specialist so she knows about old ladies and their aches and pains. My car was back at the dealership for a check engine light again. This time they ordered parts and will fix it under warranty! Then we went to Walmart to see about a problem with Mr Busy’s phone. We ended up spending 2 hrs and both getting new phones.

I did stitch on this that evening. It’s light neutral.

Wednesday is my change the bed, scrub the bathrooms,  and pick up groceries day! Need I say more?
There was stitching in the evening. We are watching Ashoka, another Starwars spin-off .

Thursday it poured rain nearly all day, and I broke out my gloves and winter hat. It was a high of 42 degrees. No snow yet, though. I gathered with my regular stitching group! More on the Equality Sampler.

And we prepped for Mr Busy’s medical procedure and my fasting blood draw! 😳and the Broncos last AGAIN’ 🧡💙

Friday, at the hospital,  no stitching was done, only  iPad scrolling. Back at home, I did sew the side borders  on the spool quilt. At least, there is a neutral background and it’s pretty scrappy!

That’s it! Not very productive.
Hope your week had lots of sewing time with some calm, soothing Neutrals!

ABC Table Scraps Post ~ Just Under the Wire!!

I'm linking up with The Joyful Quilter's ABC Table Scraps Challenge for August. Luckily, Joyful, kept the linky party open this Sept 6th.  Phew!

Not much yellow was cut or sewn in August. Some crumb blocks and one or two Bright Birches blocks. So not many scraps on my cutting table. Joyful's prompt for this months was X's and O's.  Well, immediately on my head was XXXXOOOO, like I sign most of the cards to my grands and great grands. So.... I perused the the internet for  a X and O quilt that I thought for sure I had seen. I found one at Sew Much More in Store that Nicole offered for free  if I would sign up for her newsletter. So that is exactly what I did. I printed the pattern , she calls it Hugs and Kisses Block! I needed the blocks to be smaller than Nicole's pattern.  Her finished blocks are 12". I  used her directions and cut my main color blocks at 2.5 inches. Tried a snowball flip corner at 1.25" but that was too small. So I tried the corners at 1.5". Much better.

I pulled 16  yellow or yellowish squares from my 2.5" square drawer and then cut 32+ white on white squares at 1.5" and got stitching.  It worked. Sixteen blocks is enough for 2 Hug blocks and 2 Kisses blocks.

Pressing to the main square as Nicole suggested and I was ready to lay out the X's and the O's. I shuffled a bit and then sewed the blocks togethers. Took two crumb blocks that were on my table and added that ever present smiley face fabric , cut a scrap of batting. Pinned quickly and serpentine quilted on the seam lines.
I bound it with the black and yellow scrap that I use with the yellow placemat from 2022. A set!!!

So yellow and X's for Hugs and O's Kisses or is it O's for Hugs and X's for Kisses?? Doesn't matter. The Challenge is met.

4. Get ready for Great Grandson’s birthday party. Sat Sept 2. His actual birthday is the 5th but weekends work better. Tuesday he'll be back in school. ✅

ScrapHappy Saturday Some yellow

Not much yellow was sewn this week. I’m still trying to work out the arrangement of the Full Stop rows. It’s a bit of a puzzle! I even enlisted the help of Minnie and Rudolph! There was even a small black spider who wanted to check out my blocks, but didn’t want her picture taken!
This may not be the final layout!

And only one yellow Bright Birches was constructed! Though there are bits and pieces of yellow in lots of the birches strips! In fact, the yellow square is still under construction 🚧!

Today I’m attending an Herb Festival with friends. It’s put on my our county Master Gardeners. Should be fun, and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot!

I’ll link up with Angela at So Scrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday! There will lots of yellow happening from other Rainbow Scrap Challengers this week, I’m sure!

August Rainbow Scrap Challenge 8-5-23

If you remember. I’m not building blocks for a new project this year. Instead, all my UFOs were assigned a random color of the rainbow. When the color of the month is announced, the UFO with that color will be the project I work on!

Angela selected     Yellow = August!

Full Stop and Colorful Birches! Both in the blocks need to be put together ( Full Stop) and blocks need to be made ( Colorful Birches) stage! What was I thinking, putting these on my UFO list? Well, if I can at least move them forward, I’ll call it a win!

Full Stop was the 2021 RSC Sampler on Angela's blog. Here is a link so you can see Angela's quilt. I'm sure I am the only one who hasn't completed the quilt.  But I'll try to remedy that this month.

I have on my list Colorful Birches and when I looked up the photo and link to the pattern, I remember the designer, Crazy Mom Quilts ( Amanda Jean Nyberg) calls it Bright Birches. I'm following her pattern which I downloaded several years ago. The date on my copy is 2012!   What ever I call it.  the blocks need to be made.  I have pieced the birches inserts previously, a Leader and Ender from many years ago.

Strips for 7 blocks are here! Each block uses 3 strips.

Parts for more here and there are many more in my project box.

Here is the photo and link from Connecting Threads.

We will see how it goes. I have lofty goals this month.!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I had better print out a calendar page, commit to what project which day and see if I can stay organized.

I’ll link up with Rainbow Scrap Challenge for 2023 over at SoScrappy's ScrapHappy Saturday. I hope all is well with Angela. It’s Saturday at 12:40 MDT and still there is no post from her! I’m a bit concerned!  ðŸ˜§ All is well!  She's been super busy!!  Phew!

ScrapHappy Saturday!! July 22, 2023!

I'm joining Angela at So Scrappy today to share with others for ScrapHappy Saturday and Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023.  July's color is red!!

There was some red sewn this week. Parts and pieces to make a table topper for the back deck table. Since we got the fire table for our anniversary, more time has been spent sitting around the flame with a glass of wine. There needs to be a covering on the slate topped table. So I have been puzzling pieces of a panel with some red - two different ones and some blue stars. It is still July and I had this 4th of July themed panel in my stash. For a really long time!

Side one!↗

Side two ↗

Several years ago I made this round one with some crumbs and a large piece of the panel.  So soon I will have coordinating toppers!!

A bit more was done on the borders for my spool quilt. The top border is done with ironing on the applique. I have started the bottom border.  When all the pieces are attached, I'll begin buttonhole stitching the pieces down.

While sewing the red sashing to the fussy cut pieces of the panel, my machine seemed to be making a different than normal sound. I have a Bernina with a front loading bobbin that sits in a cabinet. I’ve changed the needle and the bobbin recently. But I can do it by feel, I don’t really inspect the bobbin area every time. But I sewed lots of batting pieces together recently!

It has never looked this bad in all the years (21), that I have owned it. I cleaned it of course, and promise to look every time I change the bobbin. It’s 2 hrs, 140 miles to the nearest Bernina dealer, but an appointment will be made today.
