OMG Finish

My One Monthly Goal for October was to get the borders on my spool quilt and connect the appliqué in the corners. 

10-27-23.  The borders are on. The appliqués are fused down. The appliqué will be finished by the 31st.

10-30-23 update: 

All four corners are zigzagged down! I still have threads to tie off and interfacing to trim off the back, but the machine work is done! 😀

Finally a goal met. Now to decide how to quilt it and to construct a backing!

TO-DO Tuesday #163

This will be my last post for To-Do Tuesday! I’ll link up with Carol at Quilt Schmilt- For the Love of Fabric. I’ve been feeling anxious about my list! Been feeling less because of this list. So I will step away. 

Last week my list looked like this. Even though I checked all items off the list, I feel dissatisfied. Something must change. 

10-17-23 to 10-23-23

1. OMG✅

The borders are on! I was hoping to get to the finishing appliqués on Monday! But a day full of medical appointments kept me out of my sewing room! Below is a photo of the quilt from Edyta Sitar’s book. There will be a bird in the lower right corner, a pair of scissors in the upper left corner and joining vines and leaves in the two opposite corners. Most of these pieces are cut, just need a good block of time to get it done. 

2. Stitch on the wool pumpkin! ✅

The grass, the pumpkin, the sheep and one purple window have the blanket stitch around the outside!

3. Do some cleaning in the sewing room!✅

 It doesn’t show, but a whole bag of “junk from a cupboard”, was thrown away! Stuff that was just taking up space for “maybe someday”. 

4. Get my haircut!✅

No makeup, just a haircut!

5. Whatever else I can squeeze in!✅

   Some stitching on the Equality Sampler, some yard clean up, some medical appointments!

September OMG Finish

My goal for September and August, fot that matter was to finish the fusing and appliquéing of the top and bottom border for my Spool quilt. They are complete!

Now, side borders and bottom borders need to be added to the center spool panel. Then all the connecting appliqués in the corners.

TO-DO Tuesday # 158.

Last week, 9-12-23 to 9-18-23 , my list looked like this:

1. If the quilter finishes Rainbow Neighbourhood, get the binding attached to the front and ready for hand stitching.✅

 The binding is started just before the first corner and as of this morning I am nearly finished with the  left side!

2. Make a label and hanging corners for Rainbow Neighbourhood!✅

Because this lap quilt is 60” square, I added two hanging triangles across the top in addition to the corners. 

The quilting shows nicely from the back!

The label is in the bottom right hand corner. 

3. Finish bottom border for spool quilt. PARTIAL

  Yesterday it was under my needle, I should finish it today! Lots of threads to take to the back and tie off! 

4. Stitch on Winter/Christmas Penguin. ✅

It’s hard to tell, but white stitches were placed in his face and tummy area!

5. Start thinking about ABC Table Scraps Challenge in Aqua with “P” or “Z”! ie. Sew some aqua!✅

This is as far as I got. As soon as I get the appliqué done, I’ll get started on these HSTs!

Next Week

9-19-23 to 9-25-23

1. Keep stitching  binding on Rainbow Neighbourhood  

2. Christmas Penguin 

3. Attach borders to Spool Quilt

4. Sew Aqua HST to match Americana Modern border?

I did not complete it. In fact, I didn't even take it out of the project box. Total FAIL!  They still look like this!

I don't know why, but I couldn't bring myself to sit down to begin!  Sometimes I think you just have to listen to your inner self and know that there was a reason. So I will make it my OMG for September!

 I’ll be joining the Linky Parties at Patty’s blog Elm Street Quilts and Anne-Marie’s blog Stories from the Sewing Room!

I’ll be working on getting all the appliqués zigzagged down on the top and bottom border pieces. I’m anticipating no problems! I’ve done the two side borders and my machine is newly cleaned and oiled! 

That will be my OMG for August.

ScrapHappy Saturday! 7-15-23

Not much red sewing this week!I did dig through the red scraps and the neutral scraps to make some very scrappy strip sets. These are waiting for neutral corner of 2 “ squares. Pinned in place, but not sewn or trimmed! I ordered a special ruler with the last of my birthday money! 🙂 Yes I could do them the old fashioned way, but I wanted to try Bonnie’s suggestion. It should be here Monday. 

Also my Rainbow UFO spreadsheet selected One Color string blocks 

These I did last week. So no more progress on that one.

And. Borders on my Spool quilt. 

Pieces and parts trying to find the perfect layout. It’s a bit intimidating. But I keep telling myself, that I’ve done two borders so I can surely do two more! I’m using an Edyta Sitar - Laundry Basket Quilts pattern from this book pictured. It’s called Friendship Strips and Scraps. 

In my defense, several one whole day and a couple of evenings were spent getting the binding done on this:

Happy July!!! Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color is RED!

I honestly did read Angela's post last Saturday. Somehow I did not comprehend what I read and completely missed her saying the color for July would be Red.  Not till I read The Joyful Quilters post for the June ABC Table Scraps Challenge did it register.   Can you say, "SENIOR MOMENT!"?

I have just the perfect idea for the Table Scraps project. I'll keep you posted. For now this is all you get!

My color coordinated UFO projects for Red are. 

1. Finish the borders for my Spool Quilt.  

2. Make enough single color string blocks for a quilt.

July OMG. A Finish!!

 

My OMG for July was in two parts:

Part 1.   Get a binding on Go Your Own Way!

 Part 2.   Spool quilt border #2

Part 1:   Finish the binding on FYOP or as I renamed mine Go Your Own Way! 

Didn't my quilter do a great job in the quilting. It’s a pantograph called, Apollo! 

 

Part 2 border on spool quilt. 

I thought I was further along on this project. I thought I had all the shapes fused and cut out. I did not!

I got out border #1 and discovered I missed a set of buds and leaves.  It’s all stitched down. 

This is the right side border!  See where I circled in green? The spacing is wrong. There should be some buds there. 

This is the placement sheet from Edyta Sitar. I don’t know how I didn’t notice that!  Again, I circled in green. 

I did get the left hand border done. Thanks Diann from Little Penguin Quilt for your vote of confidence.

I will decide later, if I need to add to the right hand border. Or just how I will do that! 

Maybe it doesn't look too out of balance.?    

But I am done with the 2nd border and I am linking up with Patty @
