December OMG 2021

 

I have a small goal this month! Or at least it should be! 

I’m just going to focus on getting these 6 ornaments done. 

So far I have begun. 

One more step for the first little deer mitten . I’m working up to the more complex critters!

OMG November Finish Link Up 2021

 

These were my goals.

1. Get the NOEL banner redone.

2. Get last two red borders on the Nines and Rails or Chunky Churn Dash! 

The border is on this scrappy little quilt! It’s too big for donation to Jack’s Basket, but I’ll find a place for it in the new year. (ps : and pieces for a backing are selected.)

To-Do Tuesday #64

Good  Morning List Makers.!  It's  To-Do Tuesday over at Texas Quilt Gal.  Time to share my list and let you know how I did.  I'll link up this post and check in with the others to see their progress. 

Last week - November 2 - November 8

1. Work on Chunky Churn Dash   aka  Nine Patches and Rails. ✔

The borders are attached!  Now it goes in the to be quilted pile with a note as to the backing and batting requirements. It's too big for Jack's Basket now, so I will find another place to donate it. 

2. Decide on OMG for November and write a post and link up at Elm Street Quilts. ✔

I guess I sort of cheated. My OMG for November included getting the borders on this little quilt. This part of it is done. See my post here. Then check out the other participants at Elm Street Quilts. 

3. Finish making the row of  'periods' for Full Stop in greens. ✔

Sort of just OK! I'm running out of background that I used here. So this project is on hold.Lovely glare from the 7:30 am sun coming in my east basement window. I made my "periods" according to directions on Deb A's blog, then I saw Angela's.  I'm in a dither now! 

4. Keep stitching on Baker Santa   (counted cross stitch).✔ 

I've been stitching most evenings the last week. Some progress is happening. I even purchased a Needle Minder. It a little blue book store. 

5. Bonus:  trim threads,  press seam allowances on En Provence for the quilter! Still nope!

 Next Week   November 9th - November 15th 

1. Keep stitching on Santa Baker.

2. Put Full Stop pieces in a project box til after the Holidays. 

3. Start to pack for our trip. I may not participate in To-Do Tuesday until I return to my machine. But maybe I'll share the progress on my hand work. It will depend on the internet and if I get a new laptop and get all my stuff transferred. I know, TMI!

November OMG

 

Two smallish goals this month! We are leaving around the 19th to spend the holidays with family. We travel by car, so it will depend on the weather. I’ll be watching long range forecasts to find the best “window”

I have a Christmas banner that I want to ReDo. It was a gift from my mom years ago. She didn’t make it, but she supported various Craft Shows and Bazaars in her city. If always liked it, but a couple of years ago, when I unpacked my Christmas totes, some red candles had melted and stained the white fabric. 

I had removed the appliqued letters and was ready to take it apart completely to replace  the white fabric squares. I showed it to a friend and she suggested appliquéing the letters on new squares of white fabric then appliquéing the new white square in place over the pinkish one. I think that will work and be much easier and quicker to finish. 

The 2nd little project is to get borders completed for this little kids quilt. I was going to send it to Jack’s Basket but it too big for their 36x36 requirement. I’ll find a place for it! And I’ll try to get a backing pieced also! 

So to recap, because I tend to “build the railroad” as Mr Busy is fond of reminding me, these are my goals.

Last Week - October 25-November 1

1. Cut batting for Cat Couch Topper and quilt it.  Done! I did cut batting and get it quilted. It’s also bound!   By machine! I’m pretty excited it turned out well.

2. Finish Partridge in a Pine Tree table runner.   Done and ready to be delivered to the library along with Holly Jolly Candy!

3. Post to Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quilter.  I finished Dandy Candy and posted about it here. 

and OMG at Elm Street Quilts.    And my OMG finish was Hollow Nine Patches to a quilt top. I posted about that here. 

4. Work on UFO for Jack's Basket - Chunky Churn Dash. NOT DONE   I'll carry it over to next week. 

5. Bonus.  - backing for Hollow Nine Patch.  NOPE!

To-Do Tuesday #62 10-26-21

Here is my list from last week! I’ll link up with Linda at Texas Quilt Gal.  Thanks Linda for hosting this event. I really need to be accountable or I would just "piddle around" in my sewing room!  haha! That's a phrase my mama used to use!  

Last week------October 19-25

1. Keep exploring backing options for couch topper. ✔  I made a decision!.  The couch topper is for our son. He has an orange kitty. Yes, I know the upper cats are upside down. It's a couch topper so they will be right side up when viewed from the dining room side of the couch.

And he's been a Denver Bronco fan since he was in Junior High. I had this piece of fabric leftover from a quilt I made for his younger grandson. It just needed a little extra added to the width and length. 

2. Does Hollow Nines need a border? If so, what. Skinny white, then colored? Just a patterned wider border? ✔

Linda suggested a darker border....so I looked and decided on this one. This fabric is in some of the green 9 patches. It's not a lot darker, but I like it. It almost used up this fabric I used in my first great grandson's baby quilt. He just turned 10! Now I'll decide on a backing and get it and maybe En Provence to the quilter. She is going to Houston but will be back on Halloween and home til Thanksgiving, then they "snowbird" to Arizona! 

3. Finish lime/red/white table topper. TSC-October! ✔ 

I wasn’t sure I would like this color combination when finished! I thought I would donate it to our library’s Silent Auction. But as I finished the last stitch in the binding, I was really liking it! I know you shouldn’t donate only things you aren’t fond of! That’s not in the spirit of giving! But now it’s going to be difficult to give this away!

I quilted it with a Serpentine stitch (#4 on my Bernina) at the widest possible width and length at 3. It is stitched in a red Coats and Clark thread from my stash. It was the perfect match for the red polka dot binding. fabric. 

4. Work on Partridge in a Pine Tree. ✔  

And I have pieced a backing. I just need to find some batting, quilt it and do the binding!  JUST!

Next Week - October 25-November 1

OMG October Finish!

 

My goal for October was to get 72 of my hollow 9’s into a quilt top. It looked like this on my design wall in September! 

Then, I cut skinny sashings to make the blocks easier to join and yet keep the diagonal slashes of color. 

Last week, it was done! But I wondered if it needed borders? 

 

Linda at Texas Quilt Gal was the only one who weighed in, but I agreed and took her advice.

This morning , 10-25-21, it is bordered!  It’s now 48 X 53! A good lap or “big kid” size! 

Now to think about a backing.

September OMG Finish Link Up

 

My One Monthly Goal for September was to get the scrappy binding on my Rainbow Geese. Done and ready to hang at our local quilt show. 

 It looked like this the first of September. 

I wanted to put the colors closest to the actual blocks. Pink near pink, aqua near aqua. But I did NOT want to have a seam end up at the corner. So I seamed the colors and laid them around the corners, with loose ends at the middle of each side. 

This one would have been close! Then I attached the binding at each side as I usually do to end the binding on a regular quilt. I have gotten pretty comfortable with that process and it worked like a champ. No seams at the corners!!!

Then I gathered lots of colors of thread to match the different colors in the binding. Sometimes I use bobbin thread to sew down binding. I try to use up each spool and each bobbin. 

The stitching down of the binding began. I enjoy this process but my hands have been paining me a little lately. So I broke it up into several sessions. There was lots of changing of thread color and rethreading of needles.  That's how it is with scrappy binding.

And now its done. I have washed it, so it's all crinkly and cuddly looking. I was going to keep it for myself, but may send it off to my granddaughter in Florida. She has worn her graduation quilt out! She doesn't sew, but asked me the other day how to repair her quilt. (Hint, Hint!  I think!) 

You can see here that all four corners have a different color. This was one of the most fun quilts I have ever done. So many fabrics, so many memories, so much colorful happiness!  Almost all scraps from my stash. I did have to purchase a few solids. I did not have a lot of those. Now I have a better selection! I used solid as the "sky" for the geese in each block. 

I'm excited to be linking this up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts. I love this One Monthly Goal event she hosts. It's doable and keeps me focused. I never would have completed so many projects without this spurring me on.

September OMG

 

My one Monthly Goal for September is a bit easier than my August OMG!

Get this quilt trimmed. Pick the solids for a scrappy binding and attach. 

So it will be ready for our annual quilt show! The theme this year  is Flying Geese! I think I nailed it!
