Table Scraps Challenge ~~~Trees , Any Color! 11-24

November color and idea prompt was presented by Joyful in her post dated October 25th.. Maker’s Choice for color and trees . I needed a Christmasy something for my guest bathroom. I had a blue towel but it had couple of rough spots. So I appliqued some trees. 

As I was thinking about this little scrappy project I was wondering what to use for tree patterns! I don’t think I have one in my cookie cutters. There were some quilt patterns on line. But I didn’t really want to buy a pattern just for this .  I was putting borders on a long ago UFO. 

Do you see what I see? 

A trio of Christmas trees. I opened the pattern pack and set to tracing the shapes on some wonder under. 

UM-M…..the pattern has some X’s that represent stars at the top of each tree. I didn’t add those on the quilt!  🙃 Well, it’s still a flimsy so I can fix that!

Slow Sunday Stitching- Christmas Countdown

As I sit in my favorite chair this morning, I’m trying to look to the future.. The way I can cope is to look forward to Christmas. It’s only 45 Days!!  That feels impossible! 

I completed the November design on my Woven Wreath project from Kathy Schmitz. 

I loved learning the wheatear stitch and the fishbone stitch. I’m excited to finish this project!

I unearthed a Christmas UFO that needed to be finished. Hometown Christmas by Sweetwater. 

I loved the black and white border, but could not justify spending money on new fabric, when I had lots and lots of Christmas fabric. Consequently, my fabric didn’t have a lot of black! 

  

I pulled possible border fabric from my stash! Nothing made me happy!  So off to my favorite local fabric store. The owner and quilter extraordinaire, Nicki, suggested these two options ⤵️

I chose the red and black Buffalo check. 

And I started yet another slow stitch. I had this kit and 2 others from Rachel’s of Greenfield in my stash with the intent of Christmas tree ornaments for my Grands and Great Grands. I have more than 6! 

I’m barely started this morning. I started with the Gingerbread Man and have the pieces cut for the Star Snow person and the Santa Face.

I’m back to trying to complete some UFOs.   Most of my UFOs are scrappy, so I’m linking up with Angela at Scrap Happy Saturday

A few years ago I stitched and completed the top, without borders, for Hometown Christmas. 

I use fabrics from my stash not Sweetwater’s fabric like. Now I’m having trouble deciding on a border fabric. 

Here are some possibilities. 

On my design wall.

Close up of the red with white dots.⤴️

A green, red and cream plaid.↗️

And a more yellowish Christmas sprig fabric that matches some of the fabric in the top.⤴️

Now, I don’t really like any of these. What do you think of a black and white gingham?

Any input would be helpful. I’m stalled!

Finished or Not Finished Friday! # 72

 

I linking up with Alycia at AlyciaQuilts for Finished or Not Finished Friday.  Just a quilt little post. 

No machine with me while we are away from home, but there is needle, thread, scissors and a pattern or two. 

I'm ready to blanket stitch around the mitten shape with the deer. There is a wool felt backing piece so it makes a ornament that would also hold a gift card or tiny gift. 

 And ready to start appliqueing the bear to the stocking shape. This project has been fun, but I had to find a way to transfer the pattern to the wool felt. The position of the deer antlers and the snowflakes was difficult for me to just eyeball. I tried parchment paper ( there was some in my son's pantry). That was a fail. It's lovely to trace through, but it doesn't tear away from the stitching like tissue paper. Finally for this first motif I just used a pen. I put a dot where the middle of the snowflake would be and used a line for the main stem of the antler. The rest I just "went for it". I am satisfied.

To-Do Tuesday #67 Looking forward to Christmas!

Last week I had what I thought was an easy and doable list. And it should have been. But there was a snafu! 

 Last week’s list

1. Keep stitching on Santa  Baker! ✅

 I am really enjoying this. The cute little needle minder is very helpful. I've been watching some YouTube videos from different people showing counted cross stitch techniques. I've been stitching off and on for 30+ years and I am learning some new ideas. You really can "teach an old dog new tricks!"

2. Make cranberry salad and pumpkin pie for Thursday!✅ 

I wish I had pictures! I always make a salad with cranberries, grapes, red jello and whipped cream! It’s pretty and it’s yummy. Pumpkin pie is easy, right? Especially with frozen crusts! I’ve made dozens of pumpkin pies! And never have I ever forgotten the sugar. I’m on WW, trying to keep my 29 lb weight loss in line, but sugar free (really sugar-free) is truly “icky”. Reminded me of baby food! Blech!! In the trash, and two more pies made for Friday! Thanks goodness there was no company. Only the two most important men in my life and they love me, warts and all!

3. Start a Christmas Ornament stitchery! ✅ 

I purchased this kit from Jacquelynn Steve’s and had it sent to our son’s house. 

 

I got all the pieces traced on freezer paper and pressed to the appropriate pieces of felt. The first one, the deer on a mitten shape, is ready to start the stitching. It will be fun I think! 

I’m linking up with Linda at  Texas Quilt Gal with blushing cheeks! This old grandma and great grandma has years of experience cooking and baking! How could I make such a rookie mistake. Oh well, on to next week. Wednesday would have been my sister’s 73rd birthday! I miss her every day! 

To Do List 11.30.21 - 12.6.21

1. Work on felt ornaments.

2. Continue stitching on Santa Baker. 

3. Address some Christmas cards.

The border is on this scrappy little quilt! It’s too big for donation to Jack’s Basket, but I’ll find a place for it in the new year. (ps : and pieces for a backing are selected.)

I Like Thursday #69

 Good Morning Fellow Bloggers! 

I’m sharing some likes this morning!   LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color  gives us the forum to do this. If you want to join in, write a post, then let LeeAnna know you did. She will add your post address to a list on her own I LIKE Thursday post. Fun and easy! 

First on this Veterans Day! Thank you to all who served! To mention just a few, my Dad and Uncle, our son, my Father-in-law, brother-in-law and  nephews- in-law. 

You know I like words! There has been some wonderful thoughts and encouragement online lately. Some funny, giggle inducing words too! Yes, there have been some scary things  happening, but I choose to not let it in! 

I had this banner in my R&R box!  You know Repair and Redo box. This was a gift from my mom years ago. In storage in became stained from a red candle melting on it! 

It’s now been fixed and I am happy! 

This scrappy small quilt hung forlornly in my laundry room! Trying to decide what size it wanted to be and what color border it wanted! Finally we decided to add a solid red border. And it’s now too big for Jack’s Basket. It will find a home! 

And another way to say, “don’t let others sink your boat or steal your peace!”  From Bonnie Hunter! 

And finally a peek at my Foster Holiday Cactus! Doesn’t this make you smile? Such a hot vivid pink!

November OMG

 

Two smallish goals this month! We are leaving around the 19th to spend the holidays with family. We travel by car, so it will depend on the weather. I’ll be watching long range forecasts to find the best “window”

I have a Christmas banner that I want to ReDo. It was a gift from my mom years ago. She didn’t make it, but she supported various Craft Shows and Bazaars in her city. If always liked it, but a couple of years ago, when I unpacked my Christmas totes, some red candles had melted and stained the white fabric. 

I had removed the appliqued letters and was ready to take it apart completely to replace  the white fabric squares. I showed it to a friend and she suggested appliquéing the letters on new squares of white fabric then appliquéing the new white square in place over the pinkish one. I think that will work and be much easier and quicker to finish. 

The 2nd little project is to get borders completed for this little kids quilt. I was going to send it to Jack’s Basket but it too big for their 36x36 requirement. I’ll find a place for it! And I’ll try to get a backing pieced also! 

So to recap, because I tend to “build the railroad” as Mr Busy is fond of reminding me, these are my goals.

1. Get the NOEL banner redone.

December OMG Finish Link Up

 Because I am away from my machine for the whole of December, my OMG must be handwork.. I have finished the embroidery for the Christmas designs for a table topper.  

I need to make the coordinating hexies.  I need 16 fabric hexies.  My goal is to get 10 done.  That is one more than half. There are 19 hexies in total.

Ten fabric hexies and 3 embroidered hexies are done. Only the row that is Teal, green polka dots, embroidered star and teal plaid are joined together. But they are getting there. Six more hexies will be needed to complete the table topper. 

It will look sort of like this, only Christmas fabrics. I'll post a photo on my blog when it is completely finished and  we are back home.
