Table Scraps Challenge: January, Snowmen, Red!

My table scraps challenge started a tad bit late! We were still in California through the 9th of the month and traveling until the end of day, the 12th. Then there was unpacking and laundry and settling into a routine. So I started my dumping my red scrap bucket!

Not a lot of promise.

I finally found a print that filled the bill! Did I take a photo? No! I was on a mission. My original thought was a mug mat for the small table by my chair upstairs. I used the Dandy Candy pattern as a jumping off point. Snowman fabric rectangles and scrappy white rectangles. I didn’t like it, so I added to it to make a small rectangle. Still no pictures!

 What’s  with that, Judy?

When I thought it was ok, I went looking for a backing. I didn’t want it to be green! Too Christmas-y! As I was digging through my gold/ yellow basket  I happened on this one.

Right then and there a decision was made for the backing and to bind it in the feature fabric. I cut 2.25” strips and voilà!

Tuesday, the 25th, I quilted it. Then added the prepared binding.  I thought I’d sew it down during TV time Tuesday. It’s FBI Night on CBS. That would work! Nope! The programs were “repeats”!  Mr Busy asked, “ Do you want to finish the last 2 episodes of Yellowstone?”  The answer was an enthusiastic, “Yes”.  But Yellowstone  uses lots of visual clues and expressions, not just dialogue! So the binding was not completed. I finished it Wednesday after lunch, while waiting  to leave the house for Mr Busy’s annual doctor appointment!

I quilted it with my ever-popular to me, wavy lines in Aurifil gray. #2600

Looking at this photo, it looks like a ladder on the side of a fire truck or a piece of fencing! Maybe I should use it to wave at the TV screen during the Super Bowl.     You know! “DE-FENCE”!!

Not bad with  my white potted Golden Pothos in the middle of the coffee table!! It’s looks kinda winter-y!

Thanks for the snowman prompt, Joy and the red prompt, Angela at RSC22. I’ll link up with  Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quilter, and Finished or Not Finished Friday at Alycia Quilts on the 28th and also

I LIKE Thursday #80

Good Morning Positive People! Join me in sharing a post about good things, positive vibes or just plan LOL photos! You choose! Just pop in at Not Afraid of Color. LeeAnna shares links to other bloggers. If you want to join, just comment or email LeeAnna. She will add your blog to the list!

My first video ( and I hope it works, I never posted a video before), is of me sprinkling a pillowcase with the little gift from my SIL that I posted about last week! It was perfect! Just like I remembered, except my coke bottle is plastic and my mom’s was glass!

This was found on one of my favorite FB pages.

And this one a blogger shared ! I’m pretty sure it was Cheree at The Morning Latte. I borrowed it, my daughter needed it this week.

A favorite winter meal. Spaghetti, garlic bread, green salad and a glass of cheap sangria!

My Christmas cactus is covered with buds.

Have you ever seen a double bud an a single leaf?

TO-DO Tuesday #75

Good Morning! I’m joining with all the participants in To-Do Tuesday, hosted by Linda at Texas Quilt Gal  to let you see how I did on my list from last week:

1. Get back on board tracking points for WW and walking on the good warmish dry days! ❌

I have no proof that I walked on the few nice days. Next time I’ll take a “selfie”

And I definitely did not track all my food points! I was so much better at that before the holidays! Sigh!

2. Continue Santa Baker in the evening as Mr Busy and I watch TV. ✅

I like how the black outline enhances all the details of this design. I won’t get it done by month end ( it was my OMG for January), but I’ll be close. And I’ll roll it over to February!

3. Sew 2 more Happy Blocks, 2 red string blocks. ✅

There were 2 from last week and I  added 4 more to it!

And (2) 7.5” strings in red!

4. Work on Table Scraps Challenge. ✅

It’s ready to quilt and binding is made, so I should complete it by the 31st!

So what will happen next week!

January 25th - 31st

1. Walk 3 days next week for 20 minutes.

2. Quilt and bind January Table Scraps Challenge.

3. Continue on the outline on Santa Baker!

4. Make some red/ neutral HST in anticipation of a Zig Zag quilt!

5. If time allows, make another Growing Up Odd block!

See you all next Tuesday, Feb 1st, right after my annual Medicare checkup!

Red, red and red!

This week there was some red scraps sewn. This is the block for Jan-Feb 22 Covered in Love block drive. It starts with a red square one rectangle in one corner. Then anything goes. It’s sewn log-cabin style onto a foundation fabric. Kat suggests old sheet fabric. Then trimmed to 12.5” . You can read about CiL here.

I got some more happy blocks done.

And 2 string blocks late yesterday afternoon. I try to stay on task with the string blocks . I use a shorter stitch length and a needle that I only use for sewing on paper. For these I use a telephone book page like Bonnie Hunter suggests.

A sneak peek at a project to be revealed at month end.   Guesses??

Also, crumbs were assembled intermittently

While searching for red chunks, bit and strings , I dumped one box that was crammed full. I then decided to sort by colors.  Oh my!  I've got a box of light neutrals, a box of blue, a start on a shoe box of green. Now I need more shoe boxes for yellow, orange, brown and aqua!  Yikes.  Strings, crumbs and scraps are MESSY!

I'll leave you with this..... a project for this weekend so I can finish RED with a flourish by the end of January!

I'm linking up with Angela at Rainbow Scrap Challenge's Scrap Happy Saturday. Go check out all the red in the scrap lovers world today!

I LIKE Thursday #79

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!  Good Evening!  Happy Thursday!  I'm here this morning to share some good things that occurred in the last week or so. LeeAnna over at Not Afraid of Color keeps a list of all I Like Thursday participants. So you can go check out LeeAnna's post for today and you can check out the "Likes" of others.

I should have shared this photo last week. It's my breakfast from last Tuesday morning, the 11th, at a place called The Griddle, in Winnemucca, NV. It's Fruit and Granola Crepes. Yummy cream cheese filling, fresh strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. It was really good.

When we got back home, there was a package on the dining room table. UPS had left a package on our front porch. My neighbor/houseplant-waterer retrieved it and put it in the house. The story behind these Laundry Sprinklers...I made a comment on a Facebook post about how I wish I had the stopper like my mom had for sprinkling clothes before ironing. Yes, I still iron. Pillowcases, Mr. Busy's button front shirts, and my cotton capris and button front shirts and blouses. Anyway, my SIL in Florida saw my post and found them on Amazon and sent them to me. Wasn't that sweet?

Mr. Busy's favorite cookie are these peanut butter sandwich cookies from Walmart. Before Thanksgiving, we had trouble finding them at Walmart. When we were in California, their Walmart was out of them also as well as Nutter Butters. When I placed my Walmart pickup order last Thursday, I added 2 packages of the PB cookies. I forgot that my standing order has 2 packages on it usually. Imagine our surprise when 4 packages showed up in our grocery order.  Guess he'll be good for a week or so. :)

This was the sunset from our front porch on Saturday evening. So pretty! Our neighbors still have their Christmas decorations in the yard. To be fair it has been bitterly cold here and they both work alternating 12 hours shifts.

Tuesday the 18th, it was 59 degrees here. So I made myself a homemade sugar-free peppermint mocha iced coffee. It was yummy! I couldn't resist putting the Candy Cane chapstitck in the photo.

And finally I have to share the Christmas gift from our daughter. It's a Blind Date with a Book. The book was wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper, tied with a gold ribbon. The box included a green candy cane pen, two laminated bookmarks, a packet of Christmas Tea and a packet of Ghiradelli cocoa mix, a pair of red and green fuzzy socks, and some Gingerbread scented wax melts. It's the best gift. I haven't read the book yet, but looking forward to it. It's Dean Koontz's Devoted

And finally, the view from our front porch yesterday morning at 7:00 am. Cold!  6 degrees. Brrr!

To-Do Tuesday #74

Good Morning Tuesday To-doers! Oh, that makes me smile. When my kids were little Mr Busy used to entertain them by talking through an empty wrapping paper or paper towel tube. He would  sing, “too-doo” “peek-a-boo” and they would giggle! I’m posting my successful completion of my list from last week! Thanks Linda, for hosting To-Do Tuesday! You can check out other to-do lists at Texas Quilt Gal

My list for. January 11- January 17

1. Laundry and unpack ✅ The bags are unpacked and put into storage, and the laundry , from the trip , is done. Of course there is another load of darks that need to be done! It’s never ending!

2. Continue backstitching the detail on Santa Baker ✅ Here is a photo of my progress.

3. Turn on my sewing machine and sew at least 1 Red string block and 1 Red Happy Block. ✅ I got into my sewing room, dumped out some red pieces, cut some squares and borders. 2 Happy Blocks are done.

The red string block not so much.

My list for January 18 - January 24

1. Get back on board tracking points for WW and walking on the good warmish dry days!

2. Continue Santa Baker in the evening as Mr Busy and I watch TV.

3. Sew 2 more Happy Blocks, 2 red string blocks.

Saturday, January 15, 2022

It’s the 3rd Saturday already!

And not a bit of sewing with red has been done. I’ve gone into my sewing room twice at least. First I opened my machine and plugged it back in.  Then I did a bit of ironing! Dumped some red pieces on the cutting table.

Does it count that I have red on the table next to my chair? :)

Better luck in the coming week!

Happy sewing !

I LIKE Thursday #78

I wasn’t going to post an “I Like” today! But I changed my mind.

I Like :

We are home! We had a great visit with our son. It was hard to leave him!

Our 3 travel days were with out problems! No snow, No icy roads. A bit of wind near Rawlins WY, but that is normal. No blowing snow across the highway!

I like sleeping in my own bed!

I’ve placed a grocery order that I will pick up this afternoon.

I am stitching with my Thursday Stitcher friends today.

My Christmas cactus is blooming to  Welcome Us Home!

Go check out LeeAnna’s blog, Not Afraid of Color to see other bloggers list of likes and good things. Thanks LeeAnna for this opportunity to share some good stuff.
