Finished or Not Finished Friday. August 28

First of all Happy Birthday to my mama in Heaven. Golly gee, I am missing her lately!

Ok, most of you already know this! I FINALLY have some finishes!

First.. the Winter Mystery that Alycia sponsored is done!

Back from the long arm quilter and ready to be trimmed and binding applied.

Binding is done.

The backing and a peek at the quilting.

Secondly...I made bowl cozies for our son at his new home. He had one, now he and A. will have 4 total.

While I was at it I made 2 for Mr Busy and me!

They still need topstitching around the top, but the wrong color thread is in my machine at the moment.

And 5 masks were made from this panel! There are 10 kid graphics and 8 for adults.

Two for the great grandkids.

And one each for their mommy, daddy and yaya (grandma)!  As I was readying these for a photo, I realized I forgot the nose pieces. I'll add them before they get mailed.

The "not finished" is this baby quilt of just scraps. It needs a border. I’m thinking a stripe. Blue and orange maybe.  I’m still looking...but I’m open for something else if it speaks to me.

And I had a tiny DrEAMi yesterday.(Drop Everything and Make It)  While looking for a particular pattern I ran across this elastic and piece of fabric to make a bookmark. A scrap of interfacing, a quick seam around 3 sides, insert the loop of wide elastic and topstitching gives you a bookmark that holds the book closed.

inserted at your stopping place and the elastic is looped around the book .

Ok, now I am really done sharing. I'll link up with Alycia at Finished or Not Finished Friday.

I LIKE THURSDAY #8

LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color  gives us an opportunity every week, to look for the positiveness, and then to share our likes for the week.

Every week I try stay with a format. I may not be able to in the future. We will see.

Beside my chair.

A basket of necessary things. Tissue, pens, emery boards, fingernail clippers, glasses cleaning cloth, bookmarks, special mail, more notebooks, you know...necessary things.!

My mom whose birthday is tomorrow, used to call it my "nest". Now at least I keep it corralled in a basket. Happy 98th Birthday in Heaven, Mom!

Sewing:

I like leather thimble pads. I buy packages at a time. I use them, probably past their prime, then I lose them. I've found them under my sewing basket, stuck to my shirt sleeve and the really embarrassing one, stuck to my chest that I discovered at the check out at the store. "red face"

I also like my Alpaca wool pressing mat, this favorite pincushion made by the husband of a quilting buddy, a stylus made from beads on a metal turkey lacer, and this thread clipper! They make my stitching easier and that makes me happy!

Entertainment:  We watched the finale of Season 3 of Yellowstone. UGH!  I hated how it ended!  But I know there is a Season 4, so I guess I can wait.

And I was loaned this book. All my friends know my political position but none acknowledge it much. Jean called and asked if I was interested in reading it. I haven't started it, but hope to tonight.

And I love that the deck renovation is coming along. Mr Busy is hard at it, most days. Cooler weather is on the way. Next weekend a 42 for a low on Sunday is predicted!  Fall is coming!  I do like Fall, it's my favorite season.

Sorry about the "screen shot". I took it on the sly. He wouldn't be excited to be featured! The red fence in the rear doesn't belong to us, it's our neighbors. But it will look pretty tacky when we finish. We may have to stain our side. Just because.

The stain is everything we hoped. It's Natural on Redwood. So rich looking. Can't wait for the actual floor of the deck to be finished.

That is all I have photos of this week. A favorite nephew shared a photo of his son, that is precious. But it is a professional, so I can't share it. If I get a copy of it as a Christmas picture, I'll scan it and share then.

Be sure you go to LeeAnna's blog, Not Afraid of Color and check out the links to other blogger's post.

August One Monthly Goal Met!

On August 7th, I listed my OMG . It was to get the binding on the Winter Mystery QOV.

I worked on it while watching Yellowstone, several episodes. But I like to really keep my eyed on the screen for that one. There is so much  facial expressions! Visual cues, that can be missed if you are just listening!  Then  Sunday morning I stitched while zooming with both of our adult children, one granddaughter and great grandkids. I rounded the fourth corner and started down fourth side.

And now it is done!

And to complete 8 red ,white ,blue stars for the July/August  block drive  for Covered in Love. at Kat and Cat Quilts.

All eight stars
In various designs  and color variations,  but all 12.5” unfinished.

And the package was addressed and mailed on 8-12-20 and my tracking info said it was delivered on 8-14-20.   Take that, PMG DeJoy!

To Do Tuesday #3 and the last one for August.

Linking up with Home Sewn by Us and To-Do Tuesdays. I really am appreciative of this opportunity to make a list! Be accountable and check items off!

Last week’s list.

#1. Make Geese Migration blocks in this month’s purple. ✔️

#2  Work on binding for the QOV Winter Mystery.✔️

Rounding corner number 4! On Sunday evening.

Monday night 9PM:

3. Make masks for the 2 Florida Great Grands.  ✔️

The blue on had to be modified a bit. I originally used a black elastic cord I had in my stash. I attempted to  sew it into the corners as per the pattern directions. My machine hated it. There were bird nests of thread on the back, the upper thread broke several times. I changed needles and changed course. I made a casing of some of the lining fabric and cut new 1/8" elastic and threaded it through. I cut the loops extra long, added a stop bead and an adjusting bead. That should work!

#4. Make one new bowl cozy for the new person in our DS's life. ✔️

So I made 3!  Once you start its hard to stop. This way, they will have four total. For rotation in the laundry or if they have company for supper. Two of the cozies match, one is different. I used what was in my stash.

Next week's list.

August 25 - August 31st

1. Make masks for 3 adult kids in Florida!

2. Finish sewing the purple Easy Breezy blocks that are cut and clipped.

3. Try to find a suitable pattern for placemats for S&A.

4. Attempt some big stitch hand quilting on Harvest Tablerunner.

ps: this is my second attempt at this post. One was almost done and I hit return on my iPad to place my signature line and POOF!! it disappeared. If it shows up in the Blogosphere!  I apologize in advance. GRRRR!! I think I will schedule this one to post before there is another "strange happening"!

Easy Breezy & Purple Geese

I did my required 2 blocks for the Geese Migration quilt. This is the 8th month, so now sixteen blocks.  I might have finally gotten the process figured out, I didn’t lose any points and all my seams nested!

And I cut itty bitty pieces of purple and neutral to make  Easy Breezy blocks as Leaders and Enders. So three of them got done and added to the previous 2 on the design wall. I have several more wonder clipped together.  I will sew them,  as I continue on masks and bowl cozies in the up coming week.

The one in the lower left looked lavender to me when I cut and sewed it. Now it may have to go into the PINK pile! But I have gobs of purple scraps so, I'm OK with that.

Finished or Not Finished Friday - mostly NADA

Not one single finish this week. I puttered in my sewing room, trying to make room for a few more scrap baskets. That led me to finding some fabric and pattern from old projects. Most of it was sorted into the appropriate scrap basket.

I also pulled 4 books of quilt patterns that just do not appeal to me anymore. I will donate them to the Boutique at our local quilt show in October!

Some of the unearthed fabric was selected for bowl cozies requested by DS. I also found a coordinating piece that I really liked. Then time was spent looking for pre-cut squares of all cotton batting. I knew it was somewhere! I did find it finally, all the while berating myself for not being better organized!  Enough of my lamenting!

I stitched a little on the binding of my OMG project, while watching the DNC. Even though I didn’t see all of it, I did enjoy Kamala Harris's speech.  I ironed a few things and I did laundry. Just a “piddly” kind of week!

With all the sanding and sawing going on in the garage, the inside of the house is definitely dusty!.  I finally decided to put my quilt in a laundry basket and that way it stays off the floor. It's big enough to pull the part I am stitching onto my lap and the rest stays in the basket. It also keeps the bulk of my quilt off my lap, a help in the heat of summer. We do have A/C, but this helps.

I'm linking up with Alycia's party, Finished or Not Finished Friday. If you hop on over there, I am sure there are some examples of quilters who had a very successful productive week.

I Like Thursday #7

Linking up with Lee Anna  at Not Afraid of Color and other participants who are looking for the positives.

Stuff I Like:

By my chair..

This is the view from my chair on the front deck.  Mr Busy built this planter last year. I like the all red flowers this year. Well there are a few Moss Rose in the front, and you cannot predict what color they will be.  Sometimes red, then yellow, white, pink or orange.    The Bridal Veil Spirea is the bush at the corner. This time of year it is just a bush but in the spring.!

It makes a show!  This is an old photo, I have quit taking pictures of the bush. It's redundant, but when it blooms it is gorgeous.

Entertainment....

I play Sudoku on my iPad and a daily Crossword Puzzle.

And I am reading Ashley Farley's  Sweet Tea Tuesdays on my Kindle.

It’s fun Chick Lit! Have you read Ashley Farley?

Other stuff:

I like that Mr Busy will gladly wash my car.

And my stawberries are producing again. Between the birds and the rabbits, we get just enough for garnish on a bowl of ice cream.  Yum!

I like how my scrap baskets look all lined up on my shelving unit. I must do some reorganization, to make room for RED, YELLOW and possible NEUTRALS.

I like that our DS is happy in his new environment. Who wouldn't love this view.

And I like that extended family share their celebrations. This is Mr Busy's sister, her granddaughter and great granddaughter.

Go check out the other bloggers at Not Afraid of Color to see their likes this week.
