Finished or Not Friday

No quilts finished.  NOT even a flimsy finish. But there was a bit of embroidery and some sweet patchwork surrounding them.  So I’ll share at Alycia’s Finished or Not Friday

There will be more, and maybe a quilt!

On my walk this morning in saw 2 couples on a double date. Enjoying a swim, no kids!

Enjoy the weekend everyone. It’s graduation weekend in our small city. 3 HS , all on the same day!

SAHRR 2026

Finishing up this final post.  I’ll link up to the Parade on Kathleen McMusings blog as soon as it opens.

I started with an embroidered block that I never fully finished. My Post from January 17th

Then came Round #1.  Hourglass Blocks

Round #2 was  ‘Make It a Double”

Round #3 Animal Kingdomand #4 Curves followed.

Round#5 . Two Colors and the final Round #6 Quilter’s Choice

And now the finish, I hand stitched the binding down at my Thursday Stitchers gathering last Thursday the 19th.

As I was studying where I might add some final touches of beads, I discovered I missed quilting the left Double Tulip block. I marked it with a pin so I wouldn’t forget.

I put small triangles at the two upper corners on the back. I like to use small 1/4” dia. dowels to hang small things.

And it’s done!  Hanging for an outdoor glamour shot:

It does need a label, but I call it done.

Also linking up at Finished or Not Friday  ‘cause ya gotta celebrate every little finish !

SAHRR and Finished or Not Friday

And :

After Round #6. quilters choice.

 I’ve begun the quilting.

The dark purple fabric with the scattered shapes is the backing.

I used a light lavender thread for quilting. There was some stitch in the ditch , some  serpentine, some squiggles, some straight lines . And a  bazillion threads to bury.
And now the binding is on and I call it DONE.

I took this photo this morning at 7:02 am . It was gorgeous out front.

I also had a small finish: Project Quilting 17.6. A Happy Handful.

A pocket pincushion for a faraway friend.

SAHRR Round #6 ~ Quilter’s Choice

This week, Round #6 is hosted by Anja Quilts.  Anja chose Quilter’s Choice.  Hooray! Thanks, Anja. That gave me a chance to use the first hourglass blocks I made that were too small for the first round. And to combine them with the purple and yellow pansy fabric that I wanted to use, made for a relatively easy border.

My plan is to use the pansy fabric for the binding also. I haven’t picked a backing fabric , but it will be purple!  I think I am pleased with this SAHRR.

I’m linking this up at Anja Quilts

I haven’t had an almost finished in a long time.

And a final thought, found on the internet.

I’m proud to announce a finish!  It’s been a long time coming!  I finished 2 projects for Project Quilting this season.

They are both small, but small steps lead to sometimes bigger finishes.

Project Quilting 17.1.  A Clean Slate   You can read more about Project Quilting here.. And about my project Here

Project Quilting 17.2.  Scads of Plaids.   My post about plaids is here!

Friday 10/3/25

I’ll link to Finished or Not Friday because it helps ME keep track.  You can go check to see what other more productive quilters have been working on and have completed.

Sadly this is the state of my string blocks. They are sewn together, but that is all.

The small cream border is cut to size, but still waiting to be attached. Why? Because the light green, from September, is still under my needle.

Our quilt show is this weekend and I hope to visit a vender and find the perfect border fabric. I’m not sure what I’m looking for. The string blocks are dark and busy. Hopefully I’ll find something.

Hello

I’m reluctant to share this before the binding is done, but next Friday it will be hanging in our quilt show. So here goes. I started this project in  October 2018. I’m a good starter. Not so much of a good finisher. I purchase the pattern, from Shabby Fabrics, intent on using us some Christmas scraps.

I started by cutting the light background rectangles from muslin. Then tracing the designs for embroidery in black.  Some progress was made as this Post on Feb 3, 2019 shows.  Then by September 6th there was this.

Some progress photos:

March 27th 2020  there was this.

Then this: what for a border?   None are right.

A trip to the fabric store….. I chose the black and red buffalo check

Finally this:

I waited for a special friend to give it her special touch with the long arm. But medical issues caused a pause. Then I finally delivered it to her, a month later  she had to return it unfinished due to early onset stenosis of her spine.

In June this year I dropped it off at Blue Bike Quilt Studio , my LQS. Deanna does fabulous work. There were several quilts ahead of mine.

Last Thursday the 19th of September she had it finished. Then there was binding to attach.

And now it is almost finished. Mr Busy holding up in the bright sunshine today. You will notice the row of wonder clips along the bottom. Almost Finished.

Time flies ***

How can it be Friday already.

I completely missed I LIKE Thursday, yesterday. Mr Busy had a doctor appointment early, there was a grocery pickup, my stitching group met and went out to lunch together.

So I’ll answer LeeAnna’s conversation starter. Do I like Dairy Queen.?  We have a local DQ, and stop every now and again. The treats are kinda expensive in calories. Mr Busy always orders a Peanut Buster Parfait. I will get a a Blizzard. My favorite is Cookie Dough, but I’ll eat any flavor except cherry. LOL.

Some good thingthis week. I have 7 tomatoes on the 1 plant that made it into the ground.

Now if we can just have enough warm weather for them to ripen. Our earliest freeze has been September 21st. But a few places in our state, south and west of us had freezing nighttime temps last week. The Farmers Almanac is predicting, earlier cold, colder temperatures, more snow and a longer Winter. YUCK!

I found this on the internet and had to share.

The string blocks are slowly being sewed together. I’ll keep you in the loop.

I made baked banana oatmeal this morning. It was a new one for me. Both of us thought it was really good.

One last thing: the baby has arrived. I’m embroidering her name and birthdate on the back.

I do not have permission to share her whole name yet. But it’s beautiful.

Finished or Not Friday!

Charmed I’m Sure aka Glowing Hearts is finished except for a label. I will wait for the name and birthdate of the recipient before completing that step.

You’ve seen lots of progress photos, so only the Glamour Shot today.

My long arm quilter got it back to me in record time. She received it on a Thursday and Sunday she called me to say it was completed. I kinda gave here carte blanche as to the overall quilting design. It’s flowers and swirls, in a peach thread. Perfect the Nancy Halvorson fabric Charms features flowers and swirls.

Finished or Not Friday

Finally this small baby quilt is off to my local long arm quilter. It measures 41.5 x 41.5. It is Glowing Hearts , a QAL from Sandra @ mmmquilts.

I was able to find an almost big enough piece of batting, and just had to add 4 inches to the length. (No photos of the frankenbatting construction)..

The backing piece that I wanted to use was a bit short also. I usually cut backing by measuring the desired width of the backing x2. . In this case, 49.5. Rather than add a piece on the end , I used the piece I had, folded in half and sewed a 1” seam along the selvage edge.   Then pressed it and trimmed the fold off. And trimmed the 1” seam to be 1/2”. And pressed it open. Then of course I cut the length to be 49.5, but the width was still only 45.5”.  I had lots of leftover strips from the front. I  sewed them end to end until I had 2 strips 49.5” each. Then sewed them together along the long edge. I now had a pieced 4.5’ by 49.5 inches. If I added this new strip to one side, most would be mostly cut off when I trimmed it after quilting. I did that early on in my quilting journey and it looks awful.

See the two strips that ended up on the edge? My quilter didn’t fuss and did a great job of quilting this. It’s “our” quilt and lives on our bed so it’s OK. But it’s not a look I like!

So I added it to one edge then sewed it to the other edge to make a tube. Folded it in half again and cut the fold opposite the pieced portion. When I opened it up the pieced strips were in the middle. I should have folded it so the pieced strip was off center, but thought of that after the fact.

Taken in my kitchen with a shadow! ;(

Taken outside in the wind! Also :(

The baby this is made for has not made her appearance yet. Hopefully I’ll have it back from the quilter and bound before she is born. Then I will just have to put the label on it after I know her name and birthdate.

I’m sharing this at  Finished or Not Friday  hosted by Alycia at Alycia Quilts.
