OMG Finish

My One Monthly Goal for October was to get the borders on my spool quilt and connect the appliqué in the corners.

10-27-23.  The borders are on. The appliqués are fused down. The appliqué will be finished by the 31st.
Should have stood on a stool…..

Right bottom corner⤴️

Left bottom corner ⤴️
10-30-23 update:
All four corners are zigzagged down! I still have threads to tie off and interfacing to trim off the back, but the machine work is done! 😀

Finally a goal met. Now to decide how to quilt it and to construct a backing!

I’m linking up with Anne-Marie at Stories from the Sewing Room, with one day to spare!

ABC Table Scraps Challenge October. “Q” and/ or “T”!

Joining Joyful and friends over at The Joyful Quilter for this month’s ABC Table Scraps Challenge

I got a rather late start on my challenge. October has been a pretty non productive month for me. Our local quilt show was the first week end! That was fun.

The I needed to work on my OMG (One Monthly Goal) for October. You can read my goal setting link up post Here.
It was slow going. End of the calendar year brings annual Medicare appointments for both me and Mr Busy. Both of our providers had left the practices where we are patients. That meant new Drs each! A pain!
These annual check -ups led to bloodwork, labs, X-rays and appts for an upper GI for Mr Busy. It got complicated after that. I won’t share details here, but know that many days were filled with appointments and errands and visits to various facilities. I did not spend any time in my sewing room for almost 2 weeks. I finally stole an hour and a half to make a light neutral string block. 7.5 inches square because telephone book pages are already cut to that size!

Then it sat! No photos were taken! Finally, last night, I chose a backing fabric.

And then, because I was thinking about my OMG, I had my appliqué hat on! I was rummaging in my drawer of stuff and found 6 artificial leaves from somewhere? I added some iron on  fusible to 3 of them and voila! I had a small mug rug for the table next to my living room chair. A small zigzag stitch using variegated fall colored thread on the leaves and a buttonhole stitch all around the edge and it is done.

There you have it! A Quietly colored, Tiny, Timely decorated mug rug. 😊

And I leave you with this timely photo of this year’s littles. One quiet Master Chief from HALO and a vivaciously cunning ballerina witch! 🧡🧡😍😍

TRICK OR TREAT! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! !

I Like Thursday 10-26

One last Autumn morning, I think. Checking in with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color.

Went to the Orthopedic Center regarding continuing pain in my knee. Nothing definitive, but PT is now on my agenda. Finger crossed it helps.

We are expecting Winter weather for the next several days. Of course, it’s Halloween season.!  My sister- in-law sent this photo.

The deer love the apples left on their trees. They live in northern central Montana.

Mr Busy hung a bird feeder last week! My back deck is shady with trees and shrubs. The birds love it , but it makes for  dark photos!

My caption for this one: “There is a 20 minute wait at Gramma’s feeder!”

As far as our prompt for this week….. I have not experienced ghosts, or visits from departed loved ones.

I just looked at the above photo and the reflection of our living room window looks kinda ghostly!

Have a good week all!

TO-DO Tuesday #163

This will be my last post for To-Do Tuesday! I’ll link up with Carol at Quilt Schmilt- For the Love of Fabric. I’ve been feeling anxious about my list! Been feeling less because of this list. So I will step away.

Last week my list looked like this. Even though I checked all items off the list, I feel dissatisfied. Something must change.

10-17-23 to 10-23-23

1. OMG✅
The borders are on! I was hoping to get to the finishing appliqués on Monday! But a day full of medical appointments kept me out of my sewing room! Below is a photo of the quilt from Edyta Sitar’s book. There will be a bird in the lower right corner, a pair of scissors in the upper left corner and joining vines and leaves in the two opposite corners. Most of these pieces are cut, just need a good block of time to get it done.

2. Stitch on the wool pumpkin! ✅

The grass, the pumpkin, the sheep and one purple window have the blanket stitch around the outside!

3. Do some cleaning in the sewing room!✅

It doesn’t show, but a whole bag of “junk from a cupboard”, was thrown away! Stuff that was just taking up space for “maybe someday”.

4. Get my haircut!✅
No makeup, just a haircut!

5. Whatever else I can squeeze in!✅
Some stitching on the Equality Sampler, some yard clean up, some medical appointments!

I Like Thursday

I need this reminder today! I’m going to share some photos, but not much else!

Blogger is giving me issues today. So short post!

I

I think my holiday cactus may bloom for Halloween! If it was an orange color, that would be special. Looks like it will be pink!

Our prompt this week.

Have you ever had your palm read? or tea leaves? Maybe you have a friend who has a lot of intuition or sees what's coming?  Are you really intuitive or psychic?

I haven’t had the opportunity to have my palm read or my tea leaves, but years ago a co worker did a complete horoscope. That was interesting.

My husband thinks I’m intuitive. I just think I pay attention to people and situations.

This beautiful sunset from my front window made me happy!

A new wool project that, right now looks a bit spooky. Hoping the embellishments and embroidery stitches tone it down a bit!

Today is my day to stitch with friends. That will make it a good day!

Take a moment to visit LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color, and the other participants in I LIKE Thursday!

TO-DO Tuesday #162

Linking up with Carol at Quilt Schmilt - For the Love of Fabric. Thanks Carol for hosting and providing a place to share our goals and the successes and the failures !

Last week’s list
10-10-23 to 10-16-23

1. Get a hand project organized to take to hospital to keep my hands busy while MrBusy has an outpatient procedure.❌ I ended up taking my iPad! It’s a good thing I did. There wasn’t time to do much.

2. Work on October OMG project!  ✅. The right and left side borders are on.

3. Get wool pieces fused to background for the Stitch-Along Lunch at Linette’s.✅ This is what I got done. The fusible will not adhere to the background. I have appliqué pins, so it will be fine.

Some of our ladies purchased the kit, and some of us downloaded the pattern the week it was free and used our own fabrics. They will all be wonderful.

The Lunch at Linette’s was a hit! We had a great time, most of us stitching on our versions of the pumpkin design. Good food, sorry no photos. You’ll have to take my word for it.😄

Oh, and I did decide on the buttons for the apple candle mat from Autumn Jubilee at From My Carolina Home!

4. Do some more De-stashing!❌ Umm! Nope!

There were some tasks that were completed that were not on my list, but on Mr Busy’s list. Cover the air conditioner ✅, take the deck curtains down✅, and put the grill in the garage✅. So that’s a win! I think we may be ready for winter! Physically , just not emotionally!

Next week!
10-17-23 to 10-23-23

Lots of the same:
1. OMG
2. Stitch on the wool pumpkin!
3. Do some cleaning in the sewing room!
4. Get my haircut!
5. Whatever else I can squeeze in!

Slow Sunday Stitching Oct 15

I’m joining with some fellow slow stitchers today at Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching! Hop over to her blog to see the beautiful stitches that are happening!

I’m still working on The Equality Sampler. It will be an ongoing project over the winter.

Today, I will decide which buttons to use in this small penny rug that is part of Autumn Jubilee at From My Carolina Home.

I dumped 2 button jars to see what I had!  8 buttons are needed..

  Yellow?

Shiny see- through orange?

Aqua?

Or 2 shades of red, 4 of each?

It shouldn’t take too long to do this! Then it will be back to the cross stitching. And yes, Kathy, I have a drawer full of finished stitching that need to be Fully Finished!

ScrapHappy Saturday Oct 14

Very little machine sewing this week. I was trying to get pieces ready for a Stitch Along happening on Monday, the 16th.

Tuesday was my annual Medicare appointment with yet another different doctor! But good news is I liked her. She’s a geriatric specialist so she knows about old ladies and their aches and pains. My car was back at the dealership for a check engine light again. This time they ordered parts and will fix it under warranty! Then we went to Walmart to see about a problem with Mr Busy’s phone. We ended up spending 2 hrs and both getting new phones.

I did stitch on this that evening. It’s light neutral.

Wednesday is my change the bed, scrub the bathrooms,  and pick up groceries day! Need I say more?
There was stitching in the evening. We are watching Ashoka, another Starwars spin-off .

Thursday it poured rain nearly all day, and I broke out my gloves and winter hat. It was a high of 42 degrees. No snow yet, though. I gathered with my regular stitching group! More on the Equality Sampler.

And we prepped for Mr Busy’s medical procedure and my fasting blood draw! 😳and the Broncos last AGAIN’ 🧡💙

Friday, at the hospital,  no stitching was done, only  iPad scrolling. Back at home, I did sew the side borders  on the spool quilt. At least, there is a neutral background and it’s pretty scrappy!

That’s it! Not very productive.
Hope your week had lots of sewing time with some calm, soothing Neutrals!

I LIKE Thursday 10.12.23

Joining LeeAnna and others at Not Afraid of Color to share some likes this week. It’s definitely Fall in Wyoming!  We had a freeze last Friday night and that left my friend’s pumpkins and squash showing their lovely orange. And cooler temps and possibly rain and snow are predicted for today!

I’m participating in Autumn Jubilee over at From My Carolina Home. This will be a candle mat!  Or a Mason Jar mat!

It’s school picture time!  This absolutely adorably handsome lad is related to me. I won’t share his name or where he lives, but can you say “ future lawyer”? He’s in Kindergarten!

This praying mantis appeared on the wall of the garage last week. It’s the second one this year, and the second one ever, that I have seen. I happened to have my phone in my pocket!

Rainbow Neighbourhood is back from the quilt show and hanging in our living room. That is my space, where I sit and stitch or write blog posts! It makes me so happy !

Mr Busy and I were coming home from running errands and found these four autumn displays on each corner of one intersection on our downtown area.
This one is in front of Rapscallions Barbershop! A really cool, manly upscale shop that specializes in hot towel shaves! ⤴️

Across the street is a building that is now for sale, but was the post office when we came here in 1977! ⤴️

This corner houses our tallest building. It is a bank with offices in the seven stories. I used to work in Suite 626. ⤴️

And on this corner is a coffee shop called The Local!
Excuse the photos taken from the car windows! Thus the side mirrors and steering wheel! 🤪. I think the displays are awesome.

Saw this on a Facebook page! Yup! I think it must be true! LOL!

And before you’re bored, I should probably answer the prompts from LeeAnna for this week.

what ethnic foods do you like? ex: most of us like Italian, but how about Vietnamese? Thai? Mexican? Cuban? German? Swedish? others?

My absolute favorite is Mexican, hands down!  I like Chinese too, and have just discovered Thai dishes.

do you get take out, eat at a special place,  or have you learned to make a version at home?

We eat take out from Taco Bell, and a regional favorite called Taco John’s. Our little town has several Mexican restaurants owned and run by Latinx families. All are great, our favorite is Las Margaritas. And I’m pretty good at Tex-Mex at home. Chicken Enchiladas, Street Tacos, Taco Salad , and of course Chili! We have Mexican inspired meals at least one a week. Even when I was going through Chemo 20 years ago, I craved Mexican when I was home from the hospital!

ex: I grew up eating Cuban food at restaurants, and still make arroyo con pollo (chicken and yellow rice) at least once a month

I want to try LeeAnna’s Arroyo con Pollo! I’m sure I would like that too!
