I LIKE Thursday #288

I plucked this from the blog, Wedding Dress Blue . Are you a visitor to her site? I love her use of scraps. 

I made a version of her pattern, Growing Up Odd. It’s a favorite. 

Not much to talk about this week. Still doing PT on  my left hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder, 2x a week. I’m still having some pain, mostly discomfort. Kind of like a nagging headache. Not a migraine!. 

Still no sewing done. Though I did do some pressing of some laundered capris. I use my right hand most of the time when ironing. 

We are still in Home Improvement  H-E-Double Hockey Sticks.   Sleeping in the guest room is fun. All our personal items have been relocated. Steve couldn’t find his deodorant, I’m not sure where my curling brush is. FUN! FUN!

 a vivid memory of a family vacation you'll always remember... when you were young? or after you grew up, either. What made it stand out and memorable? People, place, activity, etc

The first event that came to mind was a family vacation to Yellowstone National Park. Probably 1958 or so. I remember being old enough to “get the joke” and being mortified. We were traveling with family friends, my Dad was the photographer. He and the other dad thought it was great fun to catch the moms and us adolescents girls coming out of the outhouse. Now remember the time period. My mom and the other mom wore full skirted dresses. We girls wore sleeveless tops and pedal pushers. Thinking back, I don’t know why I was mortified. Just embarrassed about pictures of using the outhouse. 😁

We had lots of fabulous vacations camping and sightseeing in our area. Later Mr Busy and I took marvelous vacations with a motorcycle club, to places all over the US.

I like sunrises and sunsets. Rainbows and storm clouds too!  Joining LeeAnna and friends to share the good things, mostly. 

I have a new photo of a middle granddaughter and her kids, my oldest and youngest great grandchild .

But it’s my oldest great grandson’s 16th birthday! They went to Universal Studios. 

I was at stitching today, while the plumbers came and refigured the drains in our master bath. Tonight when I got home it looked liked this:   This is where the new shower will be⤵️

This will be where the new toilet area will be. ⤵️

This was the vision of the builder, hope it works out!🤞

I found a new game to play on my iPad. MEOWDOKU. Have you tried it? 

A bit of stitching was done on this. You’ve seen this in the past. It’s an Autumn Banner or Bell Pull. It’s beautiful, but the color changes are intense. Those little acorns have 6 different color changes. Sigh!

All for now, I’d better publish this before I get interrupted again.

Lots to  like today.

Our week started out last Friday, when our granddaughter found us a dog located in South Dakota. The east side of South Dakota. It’s 483 miles, 6 hrs and 45min one way. Mr Busy fell in love with her photo. 

Luckily, our grandson in-law was driving home to Gillette from St Louis and was able to stop and pick her up as soon as the Venmo cleared. We saw her first on Saturday morning. She is 10 weeks old tomorrow and she weighs a bit over 2 lbs. She is a mixed breed, PooChon. Poodle/Bischon

what is your favorite daily routine? describe it to us... for example wake early when others are asleep for the peace? Make list?

My routine has changed in the last week. I used to get up early, make coffee, work the Wordle and a Sudoku puzzle, then read as many blogs as I could before starting my day. Now the routine involves letting Miss Emily outside to go potty and playing with her while trying to read blogs and do my puzzles! LOL 

Other things to like : our trees are blooming around the town. Mostly flowering crabapples. White and Pink.

Our son in California has Dogwood blooming. 

I love the flowering trees of Spring. 

Lunch date yesterday at Taco Bell.

Mango Iced Tea, a crunchy chicken wrap for Mr Busy and a Cantina Chicken Bowl for me! Yum!

I’m embroidering initials on Kona Snow or other white in white for small gifts. I have done an “L”, and it was mailed. There is an “S” done and a “C”. The “E” needs to be finished . 

The green and peach polka dots will be sew and flip in the four corners and the backing.

what dish would you take to a fall gathering? or which dish at a fall gathering would you reach for first?

My go-to is a cranberry jello salad. It is labor intensive, so depending on the gathering, I might opted for Pumpkin Bars.  At the buffet table I would reach for a vegetable salad or scalloped corn if it was there. 

Fall is definitely in the air here in Wyoming. We have crisp cool nights and nice sunny days mostly. However, yesterday morning it was very foggy. Didn’t get a picture it was dark outside. 

We still have some green in the trees, but lots of gold! Last week at the library. 

Another thing that I like is young people that have good social skills. Do you remember the Glowing Hearts baby quilt? 

I blurred out the personal info. 

We received a hand written Thank You card, in the mail!

And this week momma sent me a photo of the sweet girl on the quilt. I hid her identity. 

Last weekend Mr Busy had some help so he was able to repair a piece of siding on our house. The first photo is the one that appeared on my Amazon account from the driver as he delivered a package. I thought it was funny, that he captured Mr Busy working.

Our grandson-in-law was a tremendous help. And now it all ready for winter. The front flower beds are so sad. Nothing got done this summer….we were preoccupied.   Next year will be better. 

One thing happened on Tuesday.  I almost ashamed to admit. I had my phone in the back pocket of my jeans. I only have one or two pair with back pockets, so it’s not usual. It fell in the toilet. It is now drying on front of a fan. Fingers crossed it will be ok. 

I don’t want to buy a new phone. And no we are not on a plan so it would be out of pocket. 😖

Oh, and last weekend Mr Busy I missed the cozy clothes for the cooler weather question. Here is a photo of my favorite flannel Jammie pants and warm slippers. 

And NO!   I do not wear them to Walmart! LOL!

Table Scraps Challenge

 

Well,  I failed again this month. This has been a favorite challenge since its inception over at The Joyful Quilter.    I’ve let Joyful down again. My focus has been Mr. Bush’s health issues this summer. Between hospital stays, doctor’s appointments, new medications, symptomatic episodes I haven’t been in the sewing room much. September’s prompts were light blue or green and Television/Radio.  I kept thinking radio waves but kept seeing cardiac monitors. So this is what happened. 

Absolutely nothing!!  Again I apologize, Joyful.

10 years ago I might have answered: both. 

Now at 79 1/2, I’ll take resting in a hammock. As long as there is someone to help me out of it!  LOL!!!

Monday was a birthday party. Our second to the youngest great granddaughter turned 9. She got a new bike. 

Her party was at a local park. There is a bike path all around the Fishing Lake.  Do you see the geese to her right and slightly behind her? They were blocking her path just before I snapped this picture, so once they let her pass, she was hurrying!

Her older brother decided he would do the grilling. Their daddy is working out of town, so mama did the party by herself with Jo’s help.

The hamburgers were awesome. He was pretty proud of himself. 

My little anniversary pot of petunias got pummeled by a hailstorm on Wednesday last, but just a week later they are coming out of it. 

I need to do a bit more dead heading, but petunias are resilient. This was the year Mr Busy was going to repaint and refurbish the front porch.  But it will have to wait til fall, if not til next spring.  

On Saturday, our local Master Gardeners have their annual Garden Walk Fundraiser. Maybe I’ll get inspired. I’ll have some pictures hopefully for next Thursday.

I want to join in. But first I must finish The Glowing Hearts QAL from mmmquilts that got put on hold when Mr. Busy ended up in the ER and subsequent Triple Bypass. He is improving every day, though some days are better than others. It’s to be expected, all the experts say. 

Well, I have nothing else to bore you with on this warm Wednesday evening. It’s 8:45 and still 83° as I sit on the front porch typing. The sky is a bit cloudy and pinkish. Maybe it will rain again tonight.

I’ve got nothing for the upteenth Friday in a row. But I’ll share on Alycia’s blog. I was in Colorado at Medical Center of the Rockies with Mr. Busy. An unplanned, urgent but not emergency triple bypass. I am home in Wyoming but he is at a rehabilitation facility til the 10th of June. It’s 129 miles away. So I don’t go every day. 

You would think I would be sewing. But my concentration is short. 

⤴️There are pieces cut for a baby quilts following along with Glowing Hearts QAL at mmmquilts. I have til August. 

There is partial construction of green potato chip blocks ⤴️

And there is a pile of  BH Triple Treat blocks that are in need of assembly. They looked like this on the design wall, before I stacked them up.⤵️

All waiting for me.

Found on the internet. 

Several things to like about this week. The first is that I  am back in my home. A neighbor who had been taking in my mail, left this on our dining room table with our mail. 

Actually, Mr. Busy is not back home yet , but closer now. Monday he was transported to a rehabilitation hospital in Casper WY. Only 2 hours from home, instead of 4.5 hours. 

Wednesday, my grandson-in-law, picked me and our daughter up and drove us to Casper. We had lunch with Mr. Busy. Then he drove our daughter back to Loveland CO, filled his truck with fuel and drove back to Casper, picked me up and we drove back home to Gillette. An 11 hour day of driving for him. I am so grateful. I spent the day with my hubby and helped out with his physical therapy. Here he is smiling for the camera on a short break in his physical therapy routine. The red pillow is a sternal protection reminder. He can’t get out of bed, stand up or sit down into a chair using his arms. So he holds the pillow against his sternum and pushes up with his legs or log rolls out of bed. It’s a lot of work. This will be his way for at least 6 weeks. 

When I returned home on Monday night, this was some of my mail. A Mother’s Day gift from my daughter. 

And my spirea was blooming. Nothing else has been planted around the house, but there is still some time. Pots of annuals can still happen. 

I missed 2 weeks of conversation starters: 5-22-25: What technology could I live without?   I could get by without a television 

5-29-25: What does Memorial Day mean ?  Memorial Day has always been poppies,  handed out at the grocery store or other gathering places to remind us of the men and women who gave their lives in the service of protecting our country and its constitution. Mr Busy’s father died in WWII and received a Purple Heart.
