i LIKE Thursday! Last of August!

I'm joining LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color. LeeAnna keeps a list of fellow bloggers that like to post about good things happening. maybe vent just a bit, but mostly focus on the positive. Come join us.

This week, from last Thursday til today, was a sort of "blah" week. But I won't focus on that. I'll try to find the highlights.

Thursday the 24th I stitched with several friends at our local library. They have meeting rooms there that we so appreciate having access to. To have a place to meet, that doesn't require a fee these days ,is a blessing.
There were lots of fun stitching going on. I didn't take photos.   Dang it.

Friday: Mr. Busy was getting ready for his Fun Fly. It's kind of like a retreat for radio controlled aircraft enthusiasts. I did laundry and straightened my sewing space.

Saturday was the Fun Fly. I had intended to go out to watch and encourage. But it was very windy and I knew that Mr. Busy would not be putting any planes in the air. I didn't sew, but I did do some stitching on the sunflower sampler.

And I did a second batch of chokecherry jelly that did not set, so now it's syrup.  I had the labels already made, so they have been edited. That'll teach me to plan ahead!  😁

Sunday, we got a call from our son. We did lots of catching up and I always feel better after talking to him. He is happy and therefore I am happy.

Monday the 28th was another ordinary day. It is the anniversary of my mom's birthday. I went through some old photos and reminisced. I'm missing her lots lately.

Tuesday I got my hair cut.   Nope, no selfies, but I'm happy with it. And I baked a cake. Maybe you remember I made a rhubarb cakes using 1/2 of a yellow cake mix. Well, I had the other 1/2 in the cupboard and ran across an idea on Facebook. An apple dump cake.

I used 1 can of apple pie filling in a 9x9 square pan. Added a generous sprinkle of apple pie spice blend , sprinkled the remaining cake mix over the top ( dry), drizzled with 1 stick of butter, melted, topped with chopped pecans. Baked at 350F for 35 minutes. I checked it with a toothpick. I'm at a higher altitude, so baking sometimes takes a bit longer. Check it at 25 minutes.  The photo has two pieces out of it already.  Yummy!!

We have been streaming some shows. We do one episode of S.W.A.T, we're up to Season 4,  one episode of Virgin River, also Season 4 and we've just started watching Special Ops: Lioness . Intense!  It stars Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly. and others.

My wasp traps are working!  I won't gross you out with the photo of them as Mr. Busy takes them down and dumps them. Ewwww!  But here is what they look like hung back up. I think the red coloring attracts them, also the sweet smell of the applesauce and water.

This is the brand of the small yellow funnel thingy inserted in the empty liter bottle . Purchased at Harbor Freight!

I'll leave you with this photo that tagged my granddaughter on Facebook.  I know nothing about where the photo was taken or what was happening, but it looks like everyone was having a great time.

I've circled my granddaughter and her fiance.  Great big happy smiles!!!

August OMG Finish Link Up.

You can read my Link Up Post HERE!

I did not complete it. In fact, I didn't even take it out of the project box. Total FAIL!  They still look like this!

I don't know why, but I couldn't bring myself to sit down to begin!  Sometimes I think you just have to listen to your inner self and know that there was a reason. So I will make it my OMG for September!

I apologize for taking up your time here. But this will keep me accountable in September.
Be sure to click on the link below and check out other OMGers and their goals. There are some beauties.

TO-DO Tuesday # 155

Joining friends over at Quilt Schmilt For the Love of Fabric. Carol provides us this place to list our goals and projects! (If we remember to list them!)

I’ll bet you wondered if I was losing my mind. My post last Tuesday, the 22nd did not include a list for 8-22 to 8-28. My bad!  So I guess I’ll just tell you what I did and didn’t accomplish!

1. I didn’t get any more Bright Birches blocks done.

My design wall still looks like this:👆

2. I didn’t get binding sewn onto the One Happy Girl quilts that I got back from the quilter.

The front and the quilting. 👆

The pieced backing! 👉

3. 1 did not even begin, let alone finish, my August OMG!
Still looks just like this! 👆

4. I did not get Full Stop rows sewn together!
I did take it up off the floor. So it's back in the project box! 😞

5. I did get 2 batches of jelly made. Or should I say 6 jars of jelly and 6 jars of “syrup “. I’ve been researching how to save and reprocess the “not set”jelly.

6. I finished stitching the mini sunflower sampler. It’s an FO, but not an FFO( Fully Finished Object) More about that another time.

Sorry for my shadow. You get the idea!

I'll try to do better this next time....but no promises!

 Next Week
August 29- September 4

1. Complete ABC Table Scraps Challenge for August
2. Check out what UFOs are attached to AQUA. The RSC Color for September.
3. Write  FAIL post for August OMG and a new LINK UP post for September OMG
4. Get ready for Great Grandson’s birthday party. Sat Sept 2. His actual birthday is the 5th but weekends work better. Tuesday he'll be back in school.
5. Start new  Slow Stitching project.

Finished or Not Finished Friday! Quilting. Cross stitch and jelly making!

I haven’t posted here in a while. And I still don’t have a finish! But I’m closer than I was. I have 14 blocks on the design wall. 6 more solids cut and ready for strip insertion. Then there will be rearranging. No, I will not leave those orange and red blocks together! That is just how they came out of the project box when I got back from retreat!

No time has been spent in the sewing room since last Sunday. We were on a short road trip and Thursday I did some counted cross stitch.

Progress made on the sunflower stems! A friend was working on a new fall project. This is the backside of her chart! The stitcher sitting to my right and I were attracted to these lovely designs from Stoney Creek. No affiliation but I will order the Autumn Bell Pull and After the Harvest! Gorgeous!

I guess I do have one small finish on this cool Friday morning!  A small batch of chokecherry jelly! Don’t you just love the “ping” that happens as the jars cool?  I have a varied selection of jar sizes! But all are beautiful!

Another batch tomorrow!

I’ll just keep plugging away, and eventually there will be a finish in the sewing room. Then I’ll post about it and continue with another project that need finishing! And Sew On! 😀

I’m linking up with Alycia at Finished or Not Finished Friday! There will be lots of finishes at her Linky party! Go see!

I Lke Thursday!

Joining LeeAnna and  friends at Not Afraid of Color

We spent a few days in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Monday we rode the 1880 Train. Very fun!

I took some videos, but Blogger says they are too long! 🤷‍♀️

We spent the night with Mr Busy’s brother and SIL, and his sister and her significant other in an AirB&B. In was so restful.

Turkey and deer visited.

Then we drove to Rapid City. Mr Busy visited a hobby shop and I stopped at a favorite quilt store. Fabric was on sale. So I purchased. 4 yds of each of these.

Who can resist a pretty plaid and a monochromatic paisley?

We then drove to my brother and SIL’s home and visited til we went to dinner. We tried a new venue in a familiar location.

The Park  in Rapid City, located in the shopping center where we met, working at a Piggly Wiggly grocery store back in 1963.

We had a great time. We are back at home. Today I join the Thursday Stitchers at our library. I’ll continue stitching the sunflower sampler!

TO-DO Tuesday # 154

1. Keep stitching on Mini Sunflower Sampler. ✅

I’ve started on the sunflowers!

2. Sew birches at SIYOB Retreat. ✅

3. Make some jelly! ❌.
I just ran out of time.

4. Pack and go on a short road trip to the Black Hills. ✅

We drove through fog on our way early Monday.

We rode on the 1880 Train. In the car named Mystic.

The white house in this photo was purchased  from Sears and Roebuck catalog and still is lived in by family of the original buyers.

The remains of an old mine shaft. I think they mined tungsten in this one. Not gold!

Another old cabin.

The cabin where we stayed had early morning visitors. A doe and her fawn, still spotted.

And a flock of turkeys!

My brother in law had bought cracked corn to feed them. They loved it!

ScrapHappy Saturday!

My yellow sewing has been minimal. I continued with Bright Birches at the Sleep-in-your-Own-Bed Retreat.

There is another yellow one and a lime green that looks kinda yellow!

Some patriotic stars happened, some yellow and gray whirly blooms, a beehive panel, and a library employee in a yellow shirt who demonstrated the use of their Cricut machine. It’s available to check out!

I didn’t have permission to share these photos, so tried to block faces. A busy couple of days. I’ll go back this morning and pack up. Then I have to visit a lemonade stand that my great grandson is working. Then laundry and packing for our short trip early next week.
