Finished or Not Finished Friday # 54

I finally finished the binding and it’s been washed and dried so it’s a crinkly and cuddly! The pattern called for an economy binding. That’s a new one for me, but I checked the tutorial and it worked out fine.

This was a pattern I bought at our local quilt store just before we shut down for Covid, it’s a 3 yard quilt from Fabric Cafe, called Heartland. I purchased a three yard bundle in this green and peach colorway.

I had a bit of trouble because it uses exactly 3 yards , no room for error. And although there wasn’t a cutting  error, I did trim the selvage, indeed a little too much. I needed 1 inch more in the strip set! I did some math and made it work! It was quilted by my friend Marva Mooney using the Pantograph, Purple Meadow. It's a coneflower sort of design.

The backing was in my stash. From the clearance bin at a quilt store before they closed in 2014, I think.

Sorry about the shadows, but I could finally get an outdoor photo, and there was sunshine and of course shadow! I'll try for a better photo when I can get Mr Busy to hold it.

This quilt will be on it’s  way to Kat at Covered in Love on Monday. I didn’t signup at Hands2Help at Confessions of a Fabric Addict because I had just lost my sister and I didn’t know where my grief was going to take me. Sewing like a madwoman or unable to get off the couch. And to be truthful, I was both places! But it feels good to complete this and I’m a big supporter of Kat and her awesome project.

I’m linking  up with Alycia at Finished or Not Finished Friday  and I’ll contact Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict to let her know of my donation.

I Like Thursdays #41

                        I LIKE

I’m not much of a drinker, but occasionally I'll have a glass of Pinot Grigio. I like this label!

Mr. Busy doesn’t drink much at all, not even beer...but he has discovered that he likes this one. A cheap screw off lid kind. 😄

Recently, while helping my brothers get our sister’s house ready to put on the market...I came across some Baileys Irish Cream in a cabinet above her fridge. Unopened. The boys didn’t want them..so I took them .

Did you know Irish Cream whiskey is dated?  Did you know it will “sour”? When I opened  one of the bottles this week, it would not pour. I “Googled it” and sure enough, the cream went bad!  It doesn’t get better with age! They were dated 2005 and 2006!

This week, I made Taco Soup! I cut the recipe in half and still it fed us 4 times!  It’s a good thing Mr Busy doesn’t have a problem with leftovers or “orts” as my sister used to say! Soup does get better with age!

We watched the finale of For All Mankind on Saturday. Now we are wondering if there will be a 3rd season. One of the characters died in the finale and I should have expected it, because the actor has been cast in the Joe Pickett series based on the books by C.J. Box. Have you read that series? Mr Busy has, I listened to one of the first ones while we drove to Phoenix several years ago. While we were there, C.J.Box  was appearing at The Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale.  I purchased this autographed copy when we went to hear him speak. .

Seems odd to travel to Arizona to listen to a Wyoming author! But it just happened.

And today I snagged this photo from Facebook.  My great grands who live in Arizona!

Masked up and looking adorable!

To Do Tuesday #37

Last week’s  list:  April 20th  to April 26th

1. Finish table runner and post. ✅.      My post is here and below is a final photo.

2. Trace some of the designs for Crabapple project! ✅

This is the center verse. Hard to get a photo of, because the tracing is brown pigma pen. It says:

I will create a beautiful world of fabric & floss.
Peaceful and joyous.
Calm hours filled with the sound of my needle and thread as I stitch

The small designs are mostly 2” x 2”, but some are slightly bigger and rectangular. If you want to see the whole project it at Crabapple Hill. Here is the link to the finished project. When I checked this morning, it was still available.

3. Sew some seams on Follow Your Own Path.   Not done!

I got interrupted by a squirrel.

My quilter got Heartland done. Here it is ready to trim.

And I started hand stitching the binding on. The pattern calls for an "economy binding" in order to get the top and binding out of 3 yards of fabric. I did it, but I am not fond of it. Then last night as I was approaching corner #4, the miter did not work. So I spent nearly an hour "unsewing" the binding so I could re turn the corner.  I will hopefully complete that today. I will donate this quilt to CiL, so I need to finish it, run it through the wash and get it in the mail to Kat!

4. Piece a backing for Garlic Knots. ✅

My Garlic Knots, a leader and ender project from a few years ago.

It has a lot of dark reds and burgundies and rusts in it.  I had some donated yardage that when pieced looks great I think.

It's some coordinating fabrics. A print, a stripe and a gingham. Boy, the gingham doesn't photograph well indoors! I think I have decided to send it to my youngest granddaughter's fiance to celebrate his college graduation. He doesn't want all the pomp and circumstance....but a gift might be appreciated.

To-Do for April 27th  - May 3rd

1. Check out the new color for May at So Scrappy!

2. Decide on OMG for May and write a post.

3. Maybe retrieve my sewing machine and pick up the truck we bought in RC.

4. Sew some Follow Your Own Path blocks, if I get my machine back.

5. Add some strips to the embroidery, so they will fit in a hoop and start the stitching.

I'll be linking up with ChrisKnits and friends today.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge Final for April.

This is the final ScrapHappy Saturday for April 2021.  I have been sewing some blue.

My blue asterisks are trimmed and attached to the joining strips. I am liking this sampler that Angela has designed.

I made some hollow nine patches.  I've been sewing these for two years. I nearly have enough for a quilt. I need to put it on the design wall to see if there are some colors that need more blocks.

I sewed only 1 Geese Migration block in light/bright blue.

I put them on the design wall....I'm almost there. Only a few more colors needed. I will pick up the needed solids and the background fabric when I go pick up my Bernina in Rapid City next week.
The Sewing Center has fabric.

And of course I sewed a table runner. It's called Woven Squares from a pattern sheet from Anka’s Treasures. The pattern is called Mini Charmers I designed by Heather Mulder Peterson.

I used a mini charm pack, pulled most of the light and bright blue pieces from it, also a couple of contrasting pieces that I love. A bit of orange and pink and even a green grapey tone. Then added some my scraps of my favorite blues. I like it!

On our coffee table with a candle my sister made.

It’s a Trifecta of Finishes!

First:    Table Scraps Challenge.  Make a runner, topper, mug rug or placemat  in the RSC21 color of the month if you are a RSC21 participant.  April color is Light or Bright Blue. I've been teasing with some photos. Join us at The Joyful Quilter. There are some great table toppers happening there. Joy writes a delightful blog!

Second:     Finished or Not Finished Friday!

Show a recent project...Finished or Not Finished at Alycia Quilts.   Alycia and friends will cheer you on. Some of her friends are fantastic quilters.  And Alycia blogs about quilting, and family, ranching and QOV.

I used a Clover White Pen for marking. The label says it irons out.  It didn't very well, but now that it has been sitting awhile the markings are fading. PHEW!

Third:   One Monthly Goal or OMG for April

Set a goal, post it and link up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts. See my Link Up post here.

When you complete the goal, post about it and link up after the 24th at Patty’s link up party! You’ll be eligible for prizes. She's got great sponsors! I've even won in the past!

I'm really pleased with how this turned out.  I still need more practice in quilting on my DSM. And to be fair this is using my back up machine.  My Bernina is done, but the weather has kept us from driving the 2.5 hours to Rapid City to pick it up. They close early on Saturday, and are closed Sunday and Monday. Maybe next week.  Tuesday or Wednesday!

I'm linking this post to all three of the blog challenges listed here. Table Scraps Challenge, Finished or Not Friday,  and OMG when it goes live, probably the Saturday or Sunday.

I LIKE Thursday #40

I try to post each week along with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color. Some weeks are harder than others to find things to be grateful about. Several friends share on a weekly basis - be sure to check them out. I know you will find something to inspire your too!  I always do!

It's Springtime in Wyoming!  " We need the moisture", they say!  While I know this is true,  "Yuk!"  I say!

April 19, 2021

I’m so ready for sunshine, warm air and blue skies! And kite flying!

I did some sewing and was thrilled that on Sunday, while ZOOMING with our son, I got a notice that Amazon delivered my Square Up ruler! It was on the front porch when I got off the call. So I was able to trim and finish up the blue blocks for the Full Stop sampler.

I also finished 3 more International Sisters.

And my Table Scraps Challenge table runner will be ready to post on Friday!

Tuesday I was able to finally get my annual mammogram done. It always amazes me that they are booked so far out. I had it scheduled in December first! Then we decided to spend Christmas with our son “because”. They couldn’t get me in til February 23. My birthday! That worked I thought! Then Covid vaccines happened and my second shot was February 19th. Warnings on news programs, and websites said that having the vaccine could cause your lymph nodes to enlarge and that might give a false reading on the scan. So I rescheduled again. And again not for 2 months! But it’s done. Addendum: Wednesday morning the report from the radiologist and the doctor! No change, no recommendations! Hurray!

I’m hopeful! I feel justice was done in Minneapolis this week. I’m not jubilant. That doesn’t feel right!
I’m hopeful for a change in the way people of color are perceived and treated in our country!

I finished reading.

And started this one that I had put aside when my brother loaned me Educated!

And some photos from family made me smile.

Our “very brave” great granddaughter riding “by myself” (her words)

And our very cute great nephew on the quilt I made for him!.

Join me over at Not Afraid of Color to what other good things are happening!
