Finished or Not Finished Friday 3-11-22.

I still don’t have those two small donation quilts basted.  Mr Busy is not happy about me spraying that stuff in the dining room,  so I won’t! 🙂. And we have had snow and cold, most days. This weekend is the start of DST and Sunday and Monday it’s supposed to warm up to the low 60s. Who Hoo!

I’ll just show you this little counted cross stitch finish. They call it a Dough Bowl Filler, or Pillow as someone corrected on my I Like Thursday post. It’s just decoration. But it looks good with my March St. Patrick’s Day table runner on our buffet. The stitching is a dark dark green!  I followed Lori Holt’s video for Fat Quarter Shop on doing the finish. I needed to cut the backing a bit longer due to the longer rectangular shape of this. The wool rectangle on the back seems “naked”. I may go back and stitch the year and my initials!

And there was a squirrel this week. I made this little tote to carry my new MacBook Pro from downstairs to upstairs and back again. I don't want to drop it ever!!

I purchased several years ago, a set of 3 canvas totes. One pink, one denim and one lime green. I took them apart so they were like this:

I also found in my stash, a Daisy Kingdom panel. Do you remember Daisy Kingdom? I used wonder under and then blanket stitched by machine.

Next into my donated fabric tote. A dated piece of blue with pink flowers. I quilted it and attached it to the inside of the "opened canvas bag".

Then stitched the side seams back together and stitched it with pink the the top edge of the bag just beneath the handles. It works perfectly.  I won't accidentally drop my laptop as I go up and down and can properly hold on to the railing.

Now I’m linking up at Alycia Quilts, then off to check out the other entries to Finished or Not Finished Friday!

To Do Tuesday #37

Last week’s  list:  April 20th  to April 26th

1. Finish table runner and post. ✅.      My post is here and below is a final photo.

2. Trace some of the designs for Crabapple project! ✅

This is the center verse. Hard to get a photo of, because the tracing is brown pigma pen. It says:

I will create a beautiful world of fabric & floss.
Peaceful and joyous.
Calm hours filled with the sound of my needle and thread as I stitch

The small designs are mostly 2” x 2”, but some are slightly bigger and rectangular. If you want to see the whole project it at Crabapple Hill. Here is the link to the finished project. When I checked this morning, it was still available.

3. Sew some seams on Follow Your Own Path.   Not done!

I got interrupted by a squirrel.

My quilter got Heartland done. Here it is ready to trim.

And I started hand stitching the binding on. The pattern calls for an "economy binding" in order to get the top and binding out of 3 yards of fabric. I did it, but I am not fond of it. Then last night as I was approaching corner #4, the miter did not work. So I spent nearly an hour "unsewing" the binding so I could re turn the corner.  I will hopefully complete that today. I will donate this quilt to CiL, so I need to finish it, run it through the wash and get it in the mail to Kat!

4. Piece a backing for Garlic Knots. ✅

My Garlic Knots, a leader and ender project from a few years ago.

It has a lot of dark reds and burgundies and rusts in it.  I had some donated yardage that when pieced looks great I think.

It's some coordinating fabrics. A print, a stripe and a gingham. Boy, the gingham doesn't photograph well indoors! I think I have decided to send it to my youngest granddaughter's fiance to celebrate his college graduation. He doesn't want all the pomp and circumstance....but a gift might be appreciated.

To-Do for April 27th  - May 3rd

1. Check out the new color for May at So Scrappy!

2. Decide on OMG for May and write a post.

3. Maybe retrieve my sewing machine and pick up the truck we bought in RC.

4. Sew some Follow Your Own Path blocks, if I get my machine back.

5. Add some strips to the embroidery, so they will fit in a hoop and start the stitching.

I'll be linking up with ChrisKnits and friends today.

Finished or Not Finished Friday " A Squirrel"

It’s not a quilt, it’s not a Scrap basket. But it’s a finish.

Drawstring tote to corral the Water Pic Flosser when we go our son’s for Thanksgiving.

I don’t have photos of the beginning of the construction. It was just something I thought I needed to make. The outside beige fabric was a piece leftover from making an armchair caddy for Mr. Busy’s chair! It's a lightweight home dec fabric.

I sat the Flosser on it. Determined that it was wide enough, but needed to be taller. I searched  my overflowing basket of brown fat quarters. I found this one. There is a bit of gold glitz in the stripes.

I knew what I wanted to do, but looked at several YouTube videos and settled on this one.

I knew I wanted a boxed bottom!

After inserting the lining into the bag, I topstitched along the top edge. I find it easier to do sort of  inside out. The bulk of the bag is to my left  and away from the stitching.

Whitney uses a technique that sews a casing near the top of the bag that leaves a header. I like that look. So, I measured and sewed two lines of stitching 3/4 of an inch apart, This will be the casing for the drawstrings. This could be different depending on what you choose for drawstrings.
I found a brown and a gold length of grosgrain ribbon in my stash.

It would have been good to find enough of the brown or enough of the gold or even a larger piece of turquoise,  but you use what you have!!

Then she opens the side seams on each side for inserting the ribbon. Because I used grosgrain, I did not seal/heat the edges! It shouldn’t ravel.

I  made a slipcover from extra lining fabric and inserted a piece of cardboard for stability!

Whoot Whoot!  A finish! I am going to slip in a plastic bag to be sure it doesn't leak during the travels.

This started out as a Squirrel!  And it was a fun project!

Finished or NOT Friday August 30

This was a kind of non productive week for me. Maybe I was melancholy because Wednesday would have been my mother's 97th birthday and I am missing her a lot lately. It's been 7 years since she passed, but it's a grief that doesn't go away.

If you read my posts, you know I finished my One Monthly Goal for August! You can see that project here!

I sent off 8 blocks to Covered in Love. The requested block was Red, White and Blue stars, any kind of star.  The only requirement was that they be 12.5" unfinished.

And my challenge for my October retreat is in the final leg of its journey. I do not think my friends read my blog. So I am going out on a limb to show you the progress made on this Scrappy Wild tablerunner.
I have had this variegated orange brown, gold thread for ages.  Like 10 years....I need to use it up!

I use the #4 stitch( it's called the running stitch) on my old Bernina, a Virtuosa 153....and lengthened it and widened it to the maximum setting. It is in the black and white dotted sashing fabric.

I stitched straight lines in the dividing HST blocks. They stack one on top of the other to make a rectangle. I did not do each HST individually.

There are lots of thread to bury and I have one more pass on the second sashing and then something in the final border. So no, it is not finished. But it will be, before the end of October. I only do my own quilting on things I will keep, or really small projects. I'm not very good at it.

And then I saw this squirrel!!!! A cute little baby lovey quilt, posted at Treadlestitches. I have lots of pieces of novelty fabric that needs to be used up!

So I started cutting:

I have 5 blocks in various stages of cutting and ready to sew. Sylvia's little quilt had only 9 blocks, so I am almost more than half way!  That's positive thinking!

So there you have it, all my NOT FINISHED projects. Maybe I'll get something done in September!

Oh and I hemmed a pair of capris and ironed some pillowcases and helped Mr Busy get the camper ready to go to the Black Hills of South Dakota for a few days after Labor Day. I am going to give my brother his Baseball quilt!

I got Nothin' !!

All week, it seems I have run around in circles.   I made myself a list of things to do.

1. Download Jenny's Year in the Garden stitchery for July.  DONE
2. Post about July's OMG.    DONE
3. Check at Kat & Cat's blog for the new block for Covered in Love.  DONE
4. Download the printable July calendar from Connie at Freemotion by the River.  DONE
5. Read and decide if I will participate in Bonnie Hunter's Leaders and Enders project for the next year! DONE
6. Check out the challenge number for All People Quilt July selection! DONE
7. Pull some RED scraps!  DONE , TOO!

Results:
1. Started stitching January!

2. En Provence:
Ready for the final neutral 4 patch borders.

3. A bit of July's red color!
I'll make 7 more of these before the end of August to send to Covering In Love.  Very doable!

4. I have a homemade journal/planner. So these printables are way more fun than the plain Jane ones from a different site of the internet! Thanks, Connie!  I've attempted to hide the personal stuff!

5. I have decided to pass.  I am still working on Leaders and Enders Tumblers from 2015!

6. It's #7  My QOV that I must re-do.  See this post!

7.  Scraps are dumped!  These look more maroon here....I may have to invade my Christmas scraps!
But that is all I got done toward the RSC 2018 July color of the month!

Stay Busy and Stay Happy or at least Squirrely!

Oh, and I'll link this post at So Scrappy!

And I finished the audio book I was listening to. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.  It is listed as a YA book, but there is lots of language in it. Other than that warning, I recommend it. You might want to read the synopsis before deciding. It is a controversial topic.
