I LIKE Thursday

 

It’s feeling like Fall. Lots of trees are changing to gold. Leaves are needing to be raked up. This was LeeAnna’s conversation starter for this week. Do you rake leaves or blow them?  We still rake mostly. Our city provides a Yard Waste dumpster til the end of November. So every weekend we try to fill it for pick up on our regular garbage day , Tuesday. We don’t have to bag them. We own a leaf blower, but it’s used infrequently. Sometimes just to clear a light dusting of snow!

It’s cool enough for jeans and tee shirt with a shirt jacket.

My holiday cactus is going to bloom.

I made potato cheese and broccoli soup. It wasn’t pretty to look at, so no photos. But it was really yummy. 

Nothing real exciting happening. I just keep on keeping on. I’m stitching in the evenings. Here’s a sneak peek.

Good Morning! I LIKE Thursday! #98

Thank you to all who emailed and checked up on me in my absence! Much appreciated!

It might actually be summertime in this part of the US. Yesterday was 73 and today it is predicted to be 84. It cools off at night here, so it is actually pleasant. 

I am glad to be home. We had a 9 day road trip to Florida and back! Boy,  was it hot and humid there! I didn’t expect it to be different but had not been there this time of year. 

Gratitude #1 was that our trip was safe and basically good. Our daughter is back home and will be living with us for the foreseeable future. 

Gratitude #2.  The USPS actually held our mail and delivered the whole pile on the correct day. 

Gratitude #3. Today I will do some slow stitching with friends.

No sewing was done. But maybe in the next week there will be a bit.

To-Do Tuesday! #92

I’m sharing my list of tasks I hoped to accomplish from last Tuesday. There was success. I will link up with Linda at Texas Quilt Gal on Tuesday .

Last week.

 
1. Finish 1 pixel block for CiL. ✅

One pixel block done….seems like Denver Bronco colors, not intentional!

2. Make binding and hanging triangles for Frames. ✅

The binding has been cut, sewn together, pressed in half and coiled ready to be attached. The hanging triangles are ready too!

 

3. Stitch on September- Year in the Garden  ✅

Small progress, but progress, just the same!






4. Get top for Table Scrapes Challenge to “ready to quilt “ stage. ✅

It is quilted! 

I’m not posting a to-do list for the upcoming week! There has been a “happening” and I am not sure what will happen next. I’ll be gone at least til the end of June. I may pop in and read some blogs, I might even comment now and then. But no goals will be set, no accounting will be published. Do not worry! It’s just a a temporary bump in the road!

TO-DO Tuesday # 91

Last week I thought I had a doable list! Well, almost!

May 10- May 16

1. Make 4 Happy blocks with Greens ✅

Actually 5 Happy blocks and some HSTs  for the green Zigzag  row! 

2. Stitch down binding on Hollow Nines✅

All quilted and bound. Ready for whatever comes next!

3.  Continue stitching on  September ~Year in the Garden ❌ 

I intended to stitch while watching TV, but we started watching The Lincoln Lawyer series on Netflix and I can’t take my eyes off Manuel Garcia-Rulfo! 😆

4. Make appointment with quilter for Frames!✅ Not only did I make the appointment, but she has it in her possession!

5. Any thing else is just icing!✅ I started on a block for CiL’s May-June block drive. I’ll try to get at least 2 done . 

Next week. 

1. Finish 1 pixel block for CiL.

2. Make binding and hanging triangles for Frames.

3. Stitch on September- Year in the Garden

To-Do Tuesday 4-19-22

Good Morning Fellow List Makers!  I'm joining Linda at Texas Quilt Gal for To-Do Tuesday. Linda gives us this place to check our progress on our current lists and make new ones if necessary. Sometimes a task is completed and sometimes a particular task just needs to be abandoned and a different one added. 

Last weeks list included

1. Start stitching on "A Year in the Garden's. September block

2. Finish petite sunflower counted cross stitch.

3. Make at least 4 pink string block

4. Work on emptying the multi scrap tote....darks. ie crumbs or string blocks. nope!! I started, but got distracted !

I tried the Bachelor Block from Melva Loves Scraps. She is hosting a Pieces in the Garden Sew Along.  I'm printing block directions. Using up some Thimbleberries fabrics I have had for ages. 

The pieces are tiny!  Trim the hst to 1 1/2" square!

Better!!!  It's a 4.5" block, unfinished. I did make all three that she has released so fat. I'm not sure if it will be a quilt or something much smaller. 

Next Week:

1. Work on the tote of dark scraps

2. Finish a bagged project

3. Continue stitching on September block for A Year in the Garden

4. Quilt pink scrappy sampler mini runner.

I Like Thursday # 91

Good Morning! I hope it is a good day where ever you are. Today is the day to Focus on the Positives in out lives. LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color gives us this place to share. Visit her beautiful blog and she and Milo will share links with others. 

First of all, I got my Table Scraps challenge finished. I’ll share my whole post on the last weekend of the month. Here is a peek!

And I finished a petite counted cross stitch from Fat Quarter Shop. 

It’s tiny, 1 3/8” square.  Now I think I will add the word Peace underneath the sunflower before I make a little ornament. I found an alphabet I like. 

I finished reading The New Year’s Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. 

It was a typical Elm Creek Quilts story. And got me back “in the loop”. It’s been awhile since I have  read these stories. 

I started this one. It’s set in Virginia in 1861 as the state government voted to join the Confederacy and the American Civil War began. It’s very good so far.  And yesterday I got an email from our library that the book I put on hold is available. I’ll pick it up today when I meet my stitching friends at the library. 

The Spymistress by Jennifer Chiaverini 

We don’t have family close so no big Easter dinner to cook. It will be a slow week for us with the exception of eye doctor  appointments on Monday. We travel  140 miles to see doctors  in Rapid City. We are under a Winter Weather event but all should be fine by then.

TO-DO Tuesday #86

Good Morning!  I had a pretty good week last week. Nothing special just slow steady progress on the tasks I had.  If you are a list maker, want to have a place to publish a list and therefore be accountable this is the place. Now, no one will reprimand or criticize  you if you do not tick the items off your list, but it's really a help to write a post and keep track. March 15 - March 21

1. Begin quilting on Ninja Friends ✅

Started and completed!

It's easier to see the quilting from the back. It's all done. And the binding is nearly complete.

2. Get Table Scraps Placemat  layered and basted.✅

It's layered and basted and quilted.  A tiny peek. 

My go-to serpentine stitch. Corner to corner in each block and horizontal and vertical seams. Easy peasy! 

3. Keep stitching on August - Year in the Garden ✅

Just a few lazy daisy stitches and some final leaves to fill in the empty spaces. 

4. Get documents organized for tax preparer! ✅ Not only did I get organized, an appointment was made for today at noon. 

Next Week

March 22- March 28

1. Finish TSC  and post to The Joyful Quilter

2. Start quilting in Chunky Churn Dash for H2H donation!

3. Keep working on Growing Up Odd blocks!

Finished or Not Finished Friday 3-11-22.

 

I still don’t have those two small donation quilts basted.  Mr Busy is not happy about me spraying that stuff in the dining room,  so I won’t! 🙂. And we have had snow and cold, most days. This weekend is the start of DST and Sunday and Monday it’s supposed to warm up to the low 60s. Who Hoo! 

I’ll just show you this little counted cross stitch finish. They call it a Dough Bowl Filler, or Pillow as someone corrected on my I Like Thursday post. It’s just decoration. But it looks good with my March St. Patrick’s Day table runner on our buffet. The stitching is a dark dark green!  I followed Lori Holt’s video for Fat Quarter Shop on doing the finish. I needed to cut the backing a bit longer due to the longer rectangular shape of this. The wool rectangle on the back seems “naked”. I may go back and stitch the year and my initials! 

And there was a squirrel this week. I made this little tote to carry my new MacBook Pro from downstairs to upstairs and back again. I don't want to drop it ever!!

I purchased several years ago, a set of 3 canvas totes. One pink, one denim and one lime green. I took them apart so they were like this:

I also found in my stash, a Daisy Kingdom panel. Do you remember Daisy Kingdom? I used wonder under and then blanket stitched by machine. 

Next into my donated fabric tote. A dated piece of blue with pink flowers. I quilted it and attached it to the inside of the "opened canvas bag". 

Then stitched the side seams back together and stitched it with pink the the top edge of the bag just beneath the handles. It works perfectly.  I won't accidentally drop my laptop as I go up and down and can properly hold on to the railing.
