ScrapHappy Saturday

The last Saturday for blue. I did cut a block for The ScrapBusters Challenge to see if I liked it. It’s ok, but I’m not sure!  I’m linking up with Angela for Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

So I continued to make crumb blocks . I think I’ve used up all the Eat My Dust fabrics and the blue with yellow stars, then I find another strip or chunk! So I keep using it up.

My Stay at Home Round Robin project is on round #2.  “Make It a Double” is the prompt. I’ve spent considerable time trying to decide which block to do, then more time drafting it so it will fit. It’s still a work in progress.  Not blues but purples and lavender.

I’ve been seeing the State Birds of Resistance decals on Facebook, and Instagram. This is the one for Wyoming, the Western Meadowlark.

Have you looked up your state?

I LIKE Thursday #267

This isn’t exactly a LIKE cartoon, but it’s how I think a lot of us are feeling. You?

Join LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color and see what others are sharing.

LeeAnna suggested this conversation starter …… Do you like puzzles? what kind? jigsaw, things like rubiks cube or slide puzzles, written ones like crossword or sudoku ?

We do like puzzles in our house. I’m partial to word puzzles like Wordle,

Wordle 1,684 4/6

🟨⬜⬜⬜🟨. Raise. The R and the E are in the puzzle , but in the wrong place
⬜⬜🟩⬜⬜. Could. The U is in the puzzle and it’s in the correct spot.
⬜🟨🟩🟩🟨.  Bluer. B is not in the puzzle. New letter L but it’s in the wrong
place. U and E are placed correctly .
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 . CRUEL.  Is correct.

and Daily Crosswords, but Mr Busy and I both play Sudoku.  My iPad wouldn’t let me share my morning puzzle!  ðŸ˜§

He plays Expert levels, I just stick with the daily ones  and once in a while a Hard one.

I like the idea of Jigsaw puzzles but Mr Busy really likes them. He finished this one  a week ago

And now is working on this one.

Do you see his setup? A large board, blue plastic sorters, a ruler to make sure it starts out the correct size, and magnifying lights. He is a serious puzzler!.

We have been trying to find something to watch in the evenings. We tried Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

It was alright! We will watch the next episode and then decide.

and then A Million Ways to Die in the West.
NO NO DON’T BOTHER!!

It stars Seth McFarlane, Charlize Theron. Liam Neeson, and Amanda Seyfried. Stupid, dumb and definitely rated “R”.

I’m still getting acquainted with my air fryer. Tuesday night, I  quick fried split chicken breasts, did sweet potato fries in the air fryer and served a cabbage and kale and tomato salad. It was pretty good.

Slow Sunday Stitching 26.4

I almost forgot it was Sunday.  I planned to stitch during the Bronco game today. But it was a tough game and needed to  cheer and yell. LOL  I did get some stitches put in Sweetly Sayin’ .

SAHRR. Round #1. Hourglass block

This week, Brenda at Songbird Designs presented the suggested block for Round One. She had links to a great tutorial from Julie at the Crafty Quilter and a printable chart from Kristin Laura Designs with dimensions for lots of sizes for Quarter Square Triangles, a variation of the Hourglass.  Scroll down to cheat sheets!

I trimmed my center block to 8.5”  square. In my head I thought , purple first. So the hourglass sounded good.  I did a trial block and I didn’t have my cheat sheet printed out. As you can see, they were too small by about an inch and 1/4.  Total.

Enter more fabric and the cheat sheet. The 1/4 sq triangles that were too small are above. The 2 1/2” unfinished blocks are at the bottom. They aren’t sewn together or attached just yet. I’m going to wait and see what the next round is. I don’t want my finished project to be too big.

Here is a better photo.

Looking forward to round 2.

ScrapHappy Saturday Jan 24

I didn’t sew much blue this week. There was blue in my Project Quilting 17.2. Scads of Plaids.

And I made Blueberry muffins this morning. Does that count?🙂

Looks like my oven has uneven heat. Should’ve turned them.

I have decided not to pursue the Delectable Mountains block. At least until I get my space under control. I’ll continue to make crumb fabric in the color of the month. I reserve the right to change my mind again.

I linking up with Angela and friends for ScrapHappy Saturday. Will be looking for inspiration!

I’m proud to announce a finish!  It’s been a long time coming!  I finished 2 projects for Project Quilting this season.

They are both small, but small steps lead to sometimes bigger finishes.

I LIKE Thursday #266

Do you like calendars, desk or wall real calendars was LeeAnna’s conversation starter this week. Check out her response and links to other participants in I LIKE Thursday at Not Afraid of Color

Yes, but I rarely pay for them. Sometimes I do. I did buy this Mt Shasta calendar when we were in Northern California for Christmas 2024.

Who wouldn’t love looking at photos like these all month long?

But my other wall calendars are usually freebies from the bank, or the doctor’s office. 😀 See the first photo!

I do buy a personal planner/calendar. I’m always hoping it helps me be more organized. It does a little!

It’s cold inWyoming this week. Yesterday’s high was 28°, today 21° and tomorrow…9°  BRRR!

A good time to stay inside a sew. I’m participating in Project Quilting 17 this year. This week’s prompt, Scads of Plaids developed into this cute market bag.

We received a puzzle for Christmas and it is finally finished. Mr. Busy worked on it mostly. I placed a few pieces.

Our next read for my F2F book club is  When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin. It was published in 2006, so it’s not new.  But every copy  in our library is checked out, so I have it on hold. Until then I’ll continue with this one. It was a gift from my daughter for Mother’s Day.

Project Quilting 17.2

HOORAY!  I’m a fan of plaid. I don’t use it predominantly, but if I have plaid in the color I need, it goes in my project.

January is a time for me to rethink my life, rearrange my stuff. …….I’m off to find plaid, blue I hope!

Success finding blue plaids. And some red, though they look sort of pink here.

I decided on a Market Bag. Pattern from designer Carolyn S. Vagts.

It calls for charm squares. My scraps aren’t always 5” and bigger. I could get 4.5” squares from most . So my bag won’t be 13.5 x 13.5, but I’m ok with that. It is 12”x12”x 4”. I quilted 1/4” on each side of all the seams.

From a stack of plaid scraps came a market bag. I followed the instructions except for the smaller squares.

The handles are a different fabric, closer to a gingham than a true tartan plaid. This bag has the handles going from back to front . Other bags I have made, have a handle on the front and a matching one on the back. I’m anxious to see if I like this better.

I put a pocket on the inside, cause you gotta have a pocket. The lining is a buffalo plaid left over from my nephew’s Minnesota Gophers quilt. So definitely there are Scads of Plaids in this useful bag.

Slow Sunday Stitching 26.3

Some  Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy today. I’ll not be as invested in the

football games today. My team won yesterday, then lost their star QB. So Sad!

I still have several WIPs going.

The biscornu is still at the backstitching phase.

I started a winter stitch. It’s from Bent Creek , Winter Row. I’m a pushover for stitches with words or letters. It is a very slow stitch for me, on 32 ct linen 2 over 2. I need really good light and magnifiers on my glasses.

My go-to project for short bouts of stitching is this cute free design from Primrose Cottage. I’m stitching it with DMC colors on 18 ct Aida, white.

RSC 2026. Jan 17

I’ll be visiting all the blogs today, to see how everyone’s Blue month is progressing. Hop on over to Angela’s ScrapHappy Saturday to join me.

There has not been any progress with blues for me this week, unless you call moving the blue scrap basket from the shelf where it lives to the cutting table ……

to the sewing machine, progress.?

Blue scraps galore, no blocks to show for it!!

Back to cheering for the Broncos!🧡💙🧡💙
