Scrap Happy Saturday. Last Saturday in September!

The last day of September has always been special to me. It’s our son’s birthday. Today he is 55 years old. You can probably do the math and figure out how old that makes me! 😆

I did get some sewing of Aqua/Teal/Turquoise/Ocean. Mostly Teal with light beige with a touch of aqua and cranberry! These were in a scrap tote from 2014. That’s when I made Americana Modern. You can see the bits and pieces progress in this Post.

My hand-me-down blond colored dresser/chest of drawers was in need of a “modern” dresser scarf.
The chest belonged to my paternal grandparents. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore.

The oak make-up mirror was made by my late BIL. The framed crossed stitch is I Corinthians 13. One of the Bible verses from our wedding, 59 years ago. I stitched it in 1983.

ABC Table Scraps Challenge. September '23

What to do?  What to do?  How about you finally make a dresser topper for your dresser, Judy!  It needs it!

So I found a baggies of scraps from the quilt on our bed.

I was going to make a cushion for a recycled piano bench that sits at the foot of our bed. I might still do that,

but I found lots of HST using the dark teal.

And for now they have come together in an improve fashion!

Not quite big enough yet!

Strips were added , all three colors plus some extra HSTS! Finally it’s 19”X34”.  I dug in a hamper that had some batting scraps, so I could make a pieced batting. The goal is to use up scraps, right?
Egads, this is what I unearthed, plus some larger more square pieces.

I’m leaving them in the big basket as a reminder to sew some slabs together, every day!

A piece of light brown leaf print was constructed, and Tuesday it was nice enough to spray baste out on the deck. I did some serpentine stitching with teal thread on top and 3 different partial bobbins of aqua/turquoise for the bottom thread. A different dark teal for binding was attached Thursday during stitching group! It’s ready to put into use!

I’m linking up with The Joyful Quilter at ABC Table Scraps Challenge!  The challenge was to use Aqua or some variation and interpret the letter P and Z. I see Zig Zagging mountain Peaks, don’t you?

And because it is a finish, I’m linking to Finished or Not Finished Friday hosted by Alycia Quilts.

Amended—- in use,

And I love it! In the reflection ,in the mirror made by my late BIL, is the quilt on our bed.

I LIKE Thursday! End of September!

I’m late posting, I got busy this morning!

LeeAnna asked some questions a couple of weeks ago in an email. She had some ideas about prompts. On the subject of herbs!

do you grow any? how do you do it? pots, inside or out side? all year or in summer. Do you dry them for use later?

I sort of answered these questions last week.
I have grown mint, basil, parsley and thyme in pots on my back deck! This year I didn’t grow herbs as I have in the past. But I have had good success with mint and basil and parsley. I only grow them for a season. I don’t have enough room for herbs in the house.  I want to try wintering over Rosemary. The Master Gardeners I know, say we can in our region.

My real gardening days are over, I’m afraid. At least that is how I am feeling this season. Come spring I may have a new attitude. So maybe I can do herbs, and maybe I’ll find a corner for rosemary!

I’ve been steadily working on my ABC Table Scrape Challenge. There will be a post tomorrow.

This afternoon a new dishwasher is being delivered. I’m super excited. Photos next week. Since I’m late posting , here is the new dishwasher all installed.

Can’t wait to try it!

My quilts are folded and all paperwork is filled out for the quilt show. I’ll drop them off next Thursday the 5th. I’m early, but ready!

I have a new cross stitch start. This is the one that I did the gridding on the fabric, what do you think?

I feel like it will help me keep track of my stitches on this smaller , 1 thread over 1 on 18 count Aida!
I have a new needle minder coming from an Etsy shop!  Not Christmas!

TO-Do Tuesday #159

Last week looked like this.
9-19-23 to 9-25-23

1. Keep stitching  binding on Rainbow Neighbourhood  ✅

It is done and ready to be hung at the quilt show next weekend!

2. Christmas Penguin ✅

He’s got a nose and feet, and his scarf is nearly done!  Forgive the shadowy photo, it’s hard to take pictures in the early morning with just a table lamp!

3. Attach borders to Spool Quilt❌.
The borders are ready,

just not attached..

4. Sew Aqua HST to match Americana Modern border?  ðŸ¤·‍♀️
I didn’t have enough of the HSTs with gold and red to match the border of this quilt

So the available HSTs became this:  with some additional strips.

Next Week
9-26-23 to 10-3-23

1. Start stitching Equality Sampler!
2. Christmas Penguin
3. Attach borders to Spool Quilt and ready corner appliques
4. Complete ABC Table Scraps Challenge and write post.

Late to the Party Again! ScrapHappy Saturday

One more week of Aqua sewing and I just might have a finish! Actually my fabric is more teal with high contrast of cranberry. These are leftovers from the Americana Modern quilt I made for our bed a lot of years ago. (it was 2014)

The note says, “ Make cushion cover for piano bench”. We have a recycled piano bench at the foot of the bed!

Lots of changes have happened to our bedroom since this photo was taken. We now have a king size bed, I added a large (8") borders to all sides.  We've painted, changed the lamps and curtains. Only the headboard is the same.

So far:

Some pieces!

There will be another post of the finish of this project at the end of the week.

Linking up with Angela at Scrap Happy Saturday.  Mister Linky is being difficult this morning. He could not use any of my images except the header meme.  I'm at a different computer, so that may be the issue.

September OMG Finish

My goal for September and August, fot that matter was to finish the fusing and appliquéing of the top and bottom border for my Spool quilt. They are complete!

Photo , quick before the wind blows!

A closeup of the stitching

Now, side borders and bottom borders need to be added to the center spool panel. Then all the connecting appliqués in the corners.

I’m linking up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts for the very last time. From now on ONE MONTHLY GOAL will be hosted by Anne-Marie at Stories from the Sewing Room. Patty and Anne-Marie have been cohosting since January and now all link up posts will be on Stories from the Sewing Room!
Thanks for this event, Patty. It has been one of the ones I have actively participated in and looked forward to every month since I first found you here in Blogland, in January 2018!   I wish you continued good fortune in the future.

Finished Not Finished Friday,

I really wanted to post this on Friday! But I had one more side to finish the binding on and did finish til 9pm.

Then it was too dark for outdoor photos. So I waited til this morning. But it was drizzling rain, gray over cast sky and cold, 52F. So I punted. I took pictures with Rainbow Neighbourhood laying on the bed in the guest room.

My long arm quilter did an amazing job with the custom quilting!  There are clouds in the cloud fabric, every house is different

Can you see the black cat and spiderweb in the windows of the green house?

All the roofs have the same design and all the chimneys are bricked. But there is a gift in the Christmas Star and holly on the door. Each cornerstone has a sewing machine. See in the upper right corner⤴️

This house has vines on the front, a really intricate star flower in the quilt block and grass blades quilted in the green.

The red heart house might be my favorite. There are hearts in the star block, hearts in the door and windows, even hearts in the sky!

I am “over the moon” happy with it! The pattern is awesome, thank you Sandra Walker, of mmmquilts.  Here is a link to Sandra’s post about her version of the pattern from mmmquilts! Hers is spectacular. I might have to do that one too!

This quilt will live at my house with me. I can’t part with it!!

I’m sharing with Alycia’s Finished or Not Finished Friday , late Saturday evening.

September 21.... I LIKE Thursday

LeeAnn at Not Afraid of Colorsuggested this prompt for today:

favorite herbs/spices

Your most used spices or herbs... what do you seem to use over and over?

how do you store spices and herbs? jars they come in, special holders, etc.

ex: I LOVE fresh ginger, and keep the root in our fridge, along with fresh garlic cloves

I use Garlic a lot!  I prefer fresh garlic, but somtime in a pinch I use jarred garlic.
I also am a fan of rosemary, dried. I really want to grow rosemary next season. It doesn't survive in our winters and will need to be brought inside. But the Herb Festival I attended in August said it was very successful and easy to do. So I am going to tryl

I have grown basil. Love doing that. I use it fresh and then preserve it by chiffonading it and freezing it in olive oil in an ice cube tray. Great in sauces all winter.

I have a plethora of jars and containers for spices. I wish I could be more organized, but I am not. I use the jars they come in and have decanted into small Tupperware spice keepers, especially if I make my own spaghetti seasoning, or chili seasoning.

I'm off to stitch with my Thursday Stitchers group.  I'll be back later today, to read and respond to all who participate in I LIKE Thursdays!!  Thanks LeeAnna!

TO-DO Tuesday # 158.

Last week, 9-12-23 to 9-18-23 , my list looked like this:

1. If the quilter finishes Rainbow Neighbourhood, get the binding attached to the front and ready for hand stitching.✅

The binding is started just before the first corner and as of this morning I am nearly finished with the  left side!

2. Make a label and hanging corners for Rainbow Neighbourhood!✅

Because this lap quilt is 60” square, I added two hanging triangles across the top in addition to the corners.
The quilting shows nicely from the back!

The label is in the bottom right hand corner.

3. Finish bottom border for spool quilt. PARTIAL

Yesterday it was under my needle, I should finish it today! Lots of threads to take to the back and tie off!

4. Stitch on Winter/Christmas Penguin. ✅

It’s hard to tell, but white stitches were placed in his face and tummy area!

5. Start thinking about ABC Table Scraps Challenge in Aqua with “P” or “Z”! ie. Sew some aqua!✅

This is as far as I got. As soon as I get the appliqué done, I’ll get started on these HSTs!

Next Week
9-19-23 to 9-25-23
1. Keep stitching  binding on Rainbow Neighbourhood
2. Christmas Penguin
3. Attach borders to Spool Quilt
