March One Monthly Goal. Finish Link Up

My OMG for March 2024 was to turn the UFO  "30 Blocks in 30 Days" flimsy into a shower curtain. 

I worked on it. In between, RSC blocks, Project Quilting Challenges, Table Scraps Challenge and a baby quilt. 

Some squares and rectangle were added to the sides. 

Then I made a backing out of muslin and measured and remeasured and attached the backing right sides together only on the sides. I do not have 12 grommets or extra large eyelets in my stash. So a shopping trip will have to happen on Monday!  Monday is April!!!!

So I clothespinned the top to some wire hangers, twisted the hooks and hung them from the shower rod. This is the crude look!

It is wide enough, but I need to interface the top to accept the grommets and I think the bottom will need some added length in order to get a decent hem that can be weighted in the corners to help it hang straight. I've made drapes in my past life and will look to see it I can find drapery weights. 

So I did not finish my goal, but I made progress. And that is OK by me.  April OMG will to FINISH.

OMG

Below is my original link up post! I did not end up attending he mini retreat, due to several medical appointments for Mr. Busy. Those continued and then a flooring project happened. My sewing room still isn’t back to normal and my machine hasn’t seen the light of day since the DIY project began. 

Next week, Tuesday through Thursday one of my sewing groups is having a mini retreat. We will sew at our Library, but go home every evening! Lots of us like this arrangement. Some have partner, or grandchildren or pet responsibilities. 

I have had this kit in my stash for over a year. I decided that I needed a new, not UFO project. My sewing mojo has been lacking in the recent weeks. Maybe this will kickstart my creativity again. 

My goal is to cut, and piece this top. It’s only 28”x28”, so it is doable. And the kit included fabric for backing and binding! A real plus!  

I've started some of the cutting, but I didn't start til yesterday, 11-2-23. So I'm sure it still counts for November OMG.

September OMG Finish

My goal for September and August, fot that matter was to finish the fusing and appliquéing of the top and bottom border for my Spool quilt. They are complete!

Now, side borders and bottom borders need to be added to the center spool panel. Then all the connecting appliqués in the corners.

OMG Finish Post!

7-4-23

Believe it or not my OMG is finished. Late this afternoon I finally got the pillow form inserted into the pillow cover that was my SAHRR.

On Monday, I layered the top with a scrap of batting that was just big enough and a piece of an old pillowcase that I cut the side seams off of and opened it up into a long rectangle. Wish I’d taken pictures but I was on a roll!

I loaded lavender thread and bobbin in my machine and starting in the middle square quilted serpentine lines diagonally. Then vertically every 1” in the “rounds” . Actually they are just side borders. 

Don’t look too close at those inside corners of that friendship star. Huh? 

I had previously decided on an ugly gifted piece of fabric for the back. 

Following the instructions in a pattern from Kimberbell, that I purchased 2 years ago, I think! , I measured and cut and hemmed the backing. It worked smoothly, but if I do another….I’ll give myself a little more wiggle room. Kim’s instructions have you make a pillow form with muslin and fiber fill. I purchased mine from Amazon and it is the same size as the pillow dimensions on the pattern . It was a tight squeeze getting the pillow form inserted. But I prevailed. 

I promised a photo even if Mr. Busy and I didn’t get the bench restrained. So here it is! It still on our list to do, but…….

edit: guess this spurred on Mr Busy. The bench now looks like this. Slats are sanded, awaiting new redwoods finish. This bench was in my sister’s garden for years! I know she would be pleased that it is loved and cared for. 

For now I will post this to Finished or Not Finished Friday at Alycia Quilts! It’s in the only Fully Finish that I have today!😜

July OMG Goal Setting Post

My goal for July is to complete a bench pillow. I participated in SAHRR last year ( incognito, I never officially joined in) and completed this wild improv-like flimsy! 

I have a floral backing chosen. And, as my DH says, “ Summer is half over when July 4th arrives”!  So I need to get this garden bench pillow finished!

June One Monthly Goal Link Up Post

It's the first of June. Summer is upon us!  My UFO list is looming.  At the beginning of the year I listed all the UFO's that I remembered and had run across ( there could be some hiding that I have totally forgotten about). I then assigned them all a color, randomly!  When the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color is announced at So Scrappy, I work on that UFO, rather than starting a new project or adding blocks to my already overflowing project boxes. June was announced as Dark and Bright Blue. I did that color in January, so I will chose light blue.  One of the UFO's on my list under Light Blue is a ZigZag quilt.  My task is to turn the blocks into a flimsy/quilt top.  

This is the project box. I have a photo on my phone of how Diann at Little Penguin Quilts layed hers out. That is my OMG!  To get these rows into a flimsy. And if I get a backing constructed and batting purchased, all the better. To get it quilted will be a challenge. I am at the mercy of the long armer's schedule. We will see.

May 23 One Monthly Goal Finish

At the beginning of May, I had three of the 16 rows quilted!

My OMG is this: Get the quilting done on this old UFO ! Fingers crossed.

And I finished it Wednesday the 16 th.  So Monday, the 22nd, after my company went back to Colorado, I thought I would trim it a get a binding ready. I was too tired!  Tuesday, though, dawned a new day. I trimmed it and got the binding attached. I settled on a dark purple check. 

The binding is stitched down on the left side, and the top. So I’m half done. It’ll be done by the end of May! 

My goal was only to get the quilting completed! So I’m satisfied. And I like it a lot! This one stay with me!

May One Monthly Goal Linkup

My One Monthly Goal continues from April. I want to continue quilting relatively straight lines across the color rows of this quilt. 

As of this morning, I have completed 1 each of red, pink, and orange. There are 16 rows, so that leaves 13 to be done. 

This close up helps show the stitching in the orange. Each row of colored blocks and the gray fabric at the edges of each color takes me one hour to do the quilting. I am not quick, there are basting stitches to remove along the way and wrestling this quilt takes a toll on my shoulders and back. I hope to do one color each day, with maybe nothing done on Thursdays, my Stitching Group day. Also, two granddaughter's have birthdays this month and our daughter will be home one of the weekends for a birthday celebration!   

My OMG is this: Get the quilting done on this old UFO !    Fingers crossed.

April OMG Finish

 

My OMG for April was to quilt at least one of the color bands on Precarious. I have been procrastinating and procrastinating. 

But as of 4-25-23 5:00 pm  MDT, I am at this point.

It's not perfect. But I am satisfied for my first time on a quilt bigger than a baby quilt or table runner.

It's a struggle for me to constantly rearrange the quilt under the presser foot and on my lap or over my shoulders. I have ordered quilt clips. They should be here tomorrow my email notice says.  Then I will go on to the orange strip.

No doubt my May OMG will be more of the same. It's the only way I will stay with it. So many projects pulling me in so many directions!  You know how I feel, don't you?

April One Monthly Goal link up

I’ve been procrastinating long enough. I need to just start! So my OMG for April is to begin the straight line quilting of Precarious. A pattern from Kelly Young’s book Stash Statement! I constructed this quilt in 2018. Then it sat. I finally decided to ask a long arm quilter if she would baste it for me. I don’t have a table big enough and I cannot get to the floor to either pin baste or spray baste!

I will start in the middle. So either the red crumb row in the middle or the middle pink crumb row.  My OMG is to get at least on colored row quilted. If it goes well, I may do more. But one for sure!

Finished or Not Finished Friday! 1-20-23

Two small finishes today. Although, in retrospect, one finish is epic for me. 

My first finish is the Autumn Stamps sampler in counted cross stitch, from Pinker n Punkin Quilting. My friends asked me what I was going to make with it, or how I was going to “finish it”. I have not decided. I’m leaning toward a wall hanging. 

My second finished, though small in size, was a huge leap for me. I’ve been wanting to participate in Project Quilting  from Persimmon Dreams, since The Joyful Quilter introduced me to it. Maybe 3 years ago. I always panic when I think, “ a complete project, inception to finish in ONE week!” Yikes, I can’t!  This year, LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color, also encouraged me. This one, Pink Tint just told me what to do!

One Monthly Goal. January 2023.

I will continue to link up monthly goals with Patty and friends at Elm Street Quilts. This motivational link up helps keep me focused! 

This year, January is harder because I am not home. So my goal is small!  I want to finish the stitching on Autumn Stamps!

This is where I was, the end of December!  The scarecrow must be finished, and there are 3 other stamps to complete. Acorns surrounding a leaf, a cornucopia, and a pie. Of course the borders between the stamps, too!

                Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal - October Finish Link-up

My goal was 2-fold……to finish Boo Crew by the 15th and make a good start on My Christmas stitch. 

The stitching of Boo Crew was completed by 10-15-22, but it wasn’t Fully Finished by the 15th due to the unavailability of the mounting board locally. I ordered it on Amazon and it arrived the 18th. now it is done. 

I've been taking my Christmastime stitch to my group of friends that meet on Thursdays. This is where I am on it today.  A good start I think. 

Not the best picture, it is a smallish stitch. But the Christmas card, the mittens on a string and the beginning of a Christmas bow are here. The mystery clue or releases as FQS calls them, have all been released so I will continue. I have no plan for a Final Finish. Maybe a simple frame since the aida fabric is already printed with a "mat surround".
