ScrapHappy Saturday - 11-22-25

 

 I’m joining Angela and others as we wind down Rainbow Scrap Challenge  for 2025. Still December to go, but it’s a busy time.  I’m working on piecing a backing for my Fall String Quilt. I have so much in my stash it seemed to me. But it’s taking me forever. Not quite wide enough using just the three beige and brown columns.  It needs to be 70x70 for y long armer. She’ll be back from their timeshare in Arizona, after the first of the year. 

So I decided to add some multi-scrap coin-like columns. They take a lot of time and I’m using up 1/2 full bobbins . You can use orange, gray, navy, or green when you have so many colors/ 

The columns are approximately 8” wide. So using them should get my back to the needed dimensions.

Slow Sunday Stitching

 

I had a new start this week. Diann at Little Penguin Quilts started this new stitch last week and I was smitten. 

It’s a free pattern from Primrose Cottage Stitches, designed by Lindsey Weight. Diann has hers on her blog today, and here’s mine. 

Don’t worry about the vertical stitch, it’ll be fine. 

As I linked up to Kathy’s Quilts,I noticed Vicki @ Vicki’s Crafts and Quilting  is also stitching Hello Summer. 😊

I had a piece of pink 14 count Aida in my stash. There was enough left to do this fun Hello Summer stitch. The pattern calls for Weeks Dye Works floss, but LiAnd I had all the cross over DMC colors except one #3832.  Luckily Hobby Lobby had it. 🙂

Weeks Dye Works calls it Aztec Red, this conversion color looks pink to me. It looks fine however. 

I’m still working on the Octopus biscornu, but I’m to the place that I need to work on it at home. Here my only distraction is the ever present TV. And I’m learning to tune it out.

SAHRR 25.4

 

Stay at Home Round Robin. Round #4

   

Wendy at Pieceful Thoughts brings us Round #4.  She calls it a Sliced Square.  I like the way hers zig zag along the outside edge. I have lots of angles and didn’t trust myself to make the points match. I got an early look at this prompt….I was scrolling on my iPad in bed late on Sunday night and the blog post was up. I read it but was thinking of another way to do the slices. 

Monday morning while enjoying my coffee and a bit of quiet time, I read Kathleen’s post. Hey, that’s what I was thinking and she assured me that there are no quilt police!.

If I could use the Sliced Squares to fill in the spaces between my stars, that would keep my top from getting bigger than I had planned.  But what colors? Cream with green, it was kind of blah! 

I sure didn’t like the big chunks of green. I used the cream background with a green strip. I tried a charm square I had cut (red plaid, I’m fond of plaid). I inserted a 1 1/2’ piece of green print. I like it. I think. I slept on it. 

I decided on the red, when I realized I had only 9 squares in my charm pack collection. I didn’t think I had any more of that fabric, but I searched my reds. Hooray! I found a 1/4 yard. It’s karma. The red it is. I cut, sliced and sewed, til I had 16-

5” squares.  I sewed each pair together, then attached them to the center stars on each side. Can you guess what happened?  

I guess my B in Advanced High School Algebra and Geometry, didn’t help much! 🤪. Too long ago, I guess!

I need added fabric. Top- dark green, Middle - cream background or Bottom-the red plaid? Which would you do? 

Here is a rather wonky photo of the three options. Top left corner= cream. Bottom left corner=dark green, Bottom right corner =red plaid. 

Guess I’m done for now. I’ll pause until round 5 and 6. ‘Cause I’m befuddled.

Friday. Not Finished

   On this last week of the month, I finished nothing!  I’ve working on my SAHRR . Round 2, HST was

 

about done. 

After round one. But I don’t know what Round 3 will be. So I don’t like the way Round 2 looks.  On to plan B. More Jacob’s Ladder sections. 

This is the Off Week for Project Quilting, so I thought I would finish my pink Table Scraps Challenge .

But that didn’t happen, I had company from out of town. That meant family obligations happened. I’m glad for the visits and for the meals shared. But sewing was at a minimum. 

We are having friends over for dinner tonight and will teach them to play Rummikub. Mr Busy is obsessed  with that game, and I like it too. Should be fun. Spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread are on the menu. 

Tomorrow I will give TSC my full attention. *SMILE*.

Finished or Not Friday.

 It’s the last Friday of July! What does that mean? It’s time to show your projects. Finished or Not!  I’m linking up with Alycia at Quilty Girl for her round up of finishes. 

This little Princess Jasmine quilt is all ready to await the arrival of her brother ( Eat My Dust) in the donation box.

July One Monthly Goal!

 I haven’t been making any goals, since failing in April and May!  If you don’t set a goal you can’t fail. But then again, if you don’t set a goal, you won’t succeed either! 

So for July my OMG is to get the Princess Jasmine quilt quilted. I’ll use my Bernina using a wavy stitch or a straight stitch or a combination. 

I have the top done, 

the batting cut and the backing constructed. No possible reason not to complete it! Right?

Finished or Not Friday!

 I had a “finally finished”this week!  I turned a UFO into a shower curtain. Some of you who follow my blog read about it on Wednesday. Some of you may have only heard about it. It was an OMG project for several months.

It’s funny to me, that when I showed fellow quilter friends this top, the reactions were lukewarm! “Well, that’s interesting!” And “ hmmmm, where did you get that pattern?”   I really hadn’t had an idea where it was going to go at the time, so it when in the to be finished closet. I liked and still do. When we redid the shower in our front bathroom , I decided to get rid of the fishing theme. Rainbows, Be Kind, Positive Attitudes was my thought process. I thought of this quilt. And so it is done! I  linking up with Alycia at Alycia Quilts for Finished or Not Friday!

April Stashbusters Report for March

It seems like I was in my sewing room a lot. But not much was completed. Project quilting had me making a Wearable, the PJ pants. And then an Irish Chain table runner. I always think table runners take more fabric than they actually do. This one was 44” x 10.5”, so not much. The thread catcher was just a slab of crumbs 9x18! 

The gold and black that came in was used in a top (flimsy) , but it’s not complete yet. So it doesn’t count! 

March Fabric IN = +3.75 yds( black &gold= Seth’s)

March Fabric OUT = PJ Pants= -2.25 yd, table runner Irish chain= .75 yds, thread catcher= < 1/8 yd Total Out = 3 1/8 

March Net Total ( + In, or - Out) = +.625

Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or - Out) -7.875

So I didn’t quite have a zero month! Still on the minus side though, so I’m happy!

April Goal Setting Post!

As stated in the finish link up from March, my April One Monthly Goal is to finish the Quilt Top into Shower Curtain project. Interface the top hem, install 12 grommets, hem the bottom. Doesn’t seem like too much, but you never know!

March One Monthly Goal. Finish Link Up

My OMG for March 2024 was to turn the UFO  "30 Blocks in 30 Days" flimsy into a shower curtain. 

I worked on it. In between, RSC blocks, Project Quilting Challenges, Table Scraps Challenge and a baby quilt. 

Some squares and rectangle were added to the sides. 

Then I made a backing out of muslin and measured and remeasured and attached the backing right sides together only on the sides. I do not have 12 grommets or extra large eyelets in my stash. So a shopping trip will have to happen on Monday!  Monday is April!!!!

So I clothespinned the top to some wire hangers, twisted the hooks and hung them from the shower rod. This is the crude look!

It is wide enough, but I need to interface the top to accept the grommets and I think the bottom will need some added length in order to get a decent hem that can be weighted in the corners to help it hang straight. I've made drapes in my past life and will look to see it I can find drapery weights. 

So I did not finish my goal, but I made progress. And that is OK by me.  April OMG will to FINISH.

I LIKE Thursday. 3-28

I’ve been pretty busy in the sewing room. We finished up Project Quilting. The last challenge theme was Irish Chain.  I decided on a shelf topper. My space is 10 x 44. 

Scrappy greens , because Trisha announced on St Patrick’s Day, with a nod to the RSC color of the month purple. The centers are purple and the binding is purple. 

I also cut pieces for a baby quilt using some novelty fabric I had. It was a pattern I won from Sara Goer Quilts during PQ15.4. The pattern is called Back and Forth.

I also finished my Table Scraps Challenge, but you’ll have to check back tomorrow on my blog, or at The Joyful Quilter’s Linky Party. 

I finished Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. 

I gave it 5 Stars. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s hopeful!

My book club is reading Angel Falls by Kristen Hannah. I don’t have a copy and all library copies are checked out. So I’m reading this one from a favorite author. 

Mr Busy and I recreated our Friday Night Date Night with a visit to a local favorite restaurant. It’s the House Special Pepperoni! It was good, but not necessarily awesome. It’s wood fired and we like some of their other flavors better. I also had a beer, called a Sour. It was kind of like a strawberry lemonade!

 For March28, 2024

Baby animals are often born in the Springtime. If you could choose any baby animal to be your pet, what would you pick and why? Don't worry about space or legal restrictions, just imagine having it.

I kinda like all babies born in the Spring!  The ones we see around here are calves, lambs and horses. Also the farm stores have baby duck and chicks. Of all those, maybe I’d like a lamb as a pet. I’ve never been up close and personal to a lamb, but I assume they are wooly and cuddly! Maybe we wouldn’t have to pay the neighbor kid to mow the lawn. We could just let “Lambchop” eat her fill! LOL!    To be transparent, I’m not interested in any pet at this time. We’ve had pets since our oldest was a baby and she’s going to be 60 this year. I’m just  over it for now!
