ScrapHappy Saturday - 11-22-25

I’m joining Angela and others as we wind down Rainbow Scrap Challenge  for 2025. Still December to go, but it’s a busy time.  I’m working on piecing a backing for my Fall String Quilt. I have so much in my stash it seemed to me. But it’s taking me forever. Not quite wide enough using just the three beige and brown columns.  It needs to be 70x70 for y long armer. She’ll be back from their timeshare in Arizona, after the first of the year.

So I decided to add some multi-scrap coin-like columns. They take a lot of time and I’m using up 1/2 full bobbins . You can use orange, gray, navy, or green when you have so many colors/

The columns are approximately 8” wide. So using them should get my back to the needed dimensions.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in the US and Happy Weekend to you all in other parts of the world.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2025

Is coming to an end. I laid out my potato chip blocks . First like this:

Then like this with the dark neutral blocks in the 3rd column . The blue row has an extra blue one as a place holder. I’m building a few more dark neutral blocks.  I’m still unsure and not really pleased. Nancy from Grace &Peace Quilting, suggested more random. I wonder if my OCD will allow me to do that! LOL

Here is the latest.

I’m also building a pieced backing for the string quilt. It’s a puzzle!!

Not in anyway a final layout. Just up on the design wall so I remember what is what.

That all for now!

ScrapHappy Saturday 10-18-25

Happy Saturday. I’m linking up with Angela for Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2025. I’ve been making potato chip blocks in the monthly colors. Angela suggested neutral for October. And I have 2 blocks completed.

I haven’t laid all my blocks out on the floor to see how they look together. I should do that soon. I may have to fill in some colors.

I’m starting to think about 2026. Although I really like using up my scraps in specific colors, I’m starting to get little pieces left over. So I need to come up with a plan. And I need to get the previous years’ blocks into tops/flimsies.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Sept 2025

Linking up with Angela and friends for ScrapHappy Saturday . Very little sewing this week. I counted all my finished potato chip blocks, and decided I needed a couple more pink ones. Only one was completed.

I’m making the photos big because they are scarce. I have a pale green one  under my needle, no photo!

I need this meme today. Thanks Sweatpants and Coffee.

Mr Busy was life-flighted to Fort Collins hospital early Thursday morning with diagnosed tachycardia. He is stable and doing better. Right now they are doing a heart Cath, to discover the reason for the irregular heartbeats.

I am not with him, but our daughter is. Fingers crossed all will go as planned and they will discharge him tomorrow. Then our daughter will bring him home. We live 5+hours away. Guess I am going to have to put on my big girl panties and learn to drone in the Denver area!

My posts may be infrequent for a bit longer.

Last Aqua Chip Block, a Crumb Creation and a Struggle with Letters

This week has been a struggle. Why? I’m not sure. Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the hint of winter, maybe it’s something else.

I finished the embroidery of the label for the heart quilt that will go to my friend’s new granddaughter. I can’t show the label, because I haven’t asked for permission from the new parents. But you have all seen the front in this Post.

I finally struggled through the Table Scraps Challenge that was this month’s color, aqua and the prompt of Hot Flash.  If you log onto this post, at The Joyful Quilter , you will see the various ways other bloggers interpreted the challenge.

Every month this year I have used my cutting scraps, sometimes also my scrap baskets to make crumb blocks and use them in the TSC. So aqua scraps became a rectangle.

I folded it in half over some scrap batting. And proceeded to appliqué some images and letters. If you have done applique, you know the “reverse image” conundrum. Letters are an extra struggle. An H, an O and a T. Are easy. They are the same right side up or flipped over. Other letters no so easy. Think F, L, P ,N.  You get the idea.

Now I’m no artist. I can barely draw an acceptable heart. I use the internet a lot! I search for free images, with no copyright . FLASH was not easy. Every one I found referred to The Flash. The movie, the cartoon. So I slashed and cut and redrew and cut again. Acceptable for this “soon to be covered by a hot pot of soup”, hot pad.

I’ll post to Table Scraps challenge as soon as it’s finished.

One final Aqua potato chip block for the 5th Saturday.

I’ll linking up to RSC and ScrapHappy Saturday at Angela’s blog. Hoping for a long weekend to sew!

Aqua Chips and Crumbs

Linking up late Saturday early Sunday with some aqua sewing. Some days don’t go as planned. But I am linking up with ScrapHappy Saturday this Sunday Morning.

Here are all four potato chip blocks so far.

While stitching these, I worked on some crumb blocks.

Then searched the internet for images of flashes , fire, lightning. IYKYK!. Table Scraps Challenge is just around the corner. 😀 🔥♨️❤️‍🔥⚡️

And of course I STILL stitching octopuses!

ScrapHappy Saturday

Joining Angela and other scrappy quilter for Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

I finished the four and final? Purple Potato Chip block and a final orange one from June.

I got all the glowing hearts together in a grid and bordered them with purple of course!

This will be headed to the quilter as soon as a backing is constructed or purchased!

Now all the scraps and leftovers are in the process of becoming a Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quilter. I have a vision.

Check back with Joyful tomorrow or Monday and see if I completed it. LOL

ScrapHappy Saturday May

We have a new color for our Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks. For May it is green. I like green. I have 2 scrap baskets + an overflow bin. I made 2 green potato chip blocks. These 2 are a mix of the green scraps from my 2” strip basket. Now I’ll try to do some just light to medium and some of dark forest like greens.

I am cutting parts for a Glowing Hearts baby size quilt. Sandra at Musings of a Menopausal Melon is hosting. QAL. The pattern is for sale in her Etsy Shop.

There are some touches of green in this fabric pull. As I cut the background this weekend, I found this

A long black mark, maybe ink, on the underside of the first 2 1/2” strip I cut. All this fabric was given to me. But there is enough to recut. So it’s all good.

Finally ready to link to  Angela’s ScrapHappy Saturday

ScrapHappy Saturday…Middle of March!

Not much sewing this week. I did cut 9, different neutrals that read white, 3.5 “ square, 3 times. I made 3  more nine patches to go to the current block drive over at Quilting is more fun than Housework.

I gathered  9 different neutrals with a creamy background to make some of those. Cynthia has asked us NOT to mix them.

It’s a subtle difference. There was lots of rearranging and rearranging again.

There was some sewing with yellow also. One yellow potato chip block was finally completed.

And there is a crumb block under my needle.

ScrapHappy Saturday

I’ve used up my blue 2” strips, so now I’m digging into slightly bigger scraps. I don’t save and sort 3.5” scraps. But I have some chunks and cut into FQs . So I’ll be good. I’ve been using my potato chip blocks as Leaders and Enders as I sew on the SAHRR and the current Project Quilting.

If you have been following the saga of my SAHRR, then you will know that there has more unsewing than there was actual sewing. So I got 2 more potato chip blocks made this week. The middle one is from last week.

And the SAHRR looked like this .

The “wrong” ones have been picked apart and the correcting strips inserted. Today I will sew the other borders. Phew! I need to be free on Sunday to do Slow Stitching, while contemplating the PQ prompt.

It’s cold and not nice here, so I will sew interspersed with laundry and meal preparing.

Happy Weekend All!  I linking up with Angela and other scrap-user-uppers today.

My America is different today than it was last week.

ScrapHappy Saturday

Happy Saturday!  The sun is shining and I’m happy about that. It is cold, only 26°. There is a breeze so it feels like 20°. I’ll be linking up at ScrapHappy  Saturday with our hostess, Angela.

I used my blue and white rectangles as Leaders and Enders this week. I was sewing on a couple of other challenges.

Only one is finished.😟

Just something I found on Facebook. Wanted to share.

I truly believe this, and will be practicing it with fervor in the next several months.
