ScrapHappy Saturday Yellow #4

 Yellow scraps roundup

Early in February I did hollow nine patches. I only needed 7 to go with the 5 I made last year to make an even 12.....but I got carried away. Now there are 13!

String blocks with a contrasting string, one is purple, one is gray. Here they both look black. These were sent to Kat for the Covered in Love January/February block drive.

And I added a geese migration block to the 2 from 2020. It's the dark one on the bottom.

And a yellow table scraps coffee pot “rug”! Complete with Smiley Faces!   My grands tell me Emoji's are so out of date, can't imagine how dated the Smiley Faces are......but I don't really care!

There was a bit of yellow in the Noah’s Ark quilt. My main focus in February was to get this quilt done and mailed to newest member of our family!

There were yellow flowers tied with a yellow ribbon, that arrived for my birthday last week.

And four sets of yellow quotation marks were completed for Angela's 2021 Sampler quilt, Full Stop. These need to joined into a row, but I need to cut more background sashing at 2.5" I may run out of the background fabric. I hope not!!    I'm working on the Hashtags for January. Late, but I'll get caught up!

And look what came in the mail! Cathy at Crazy By Design was kind enough to share a pattern of her design and included 2 pieces of yellow to add to my scrap basket. It’s the very best kind of mail!

Thank you Cathy!

So that's a quick roundup!  I'm linking up with Angela's post, ScrapHappy Saturday!  Come join us!

Table Scraps Challenge for February 2021

What to do , what to do!  Your coffee corner looks messy. Mr Busy has started some new meds and must leave them near the coffee pot so he remembers to take them.  The little knitted dishcloth, turned mug rug is not doing the job. Oh oh......table scraps challenge to the rescue!

It should be yellow and maybe red, cause there are barns in your kitchen.

A friend has donated a whole pile of string pieced 4 " squares in really pretty batiks. Some yellow, some yellow and red, some orange (a cross between yellow and red) and some green ones too.

Pick the yellow ones! Not quite enough, add some orangey ones. Well! That’s kinda happy, Gramma Judy.

Put them together with a part of a FQ in a contrasting navy blue.    Suddenly a 18" square. That size will be just right!  Now to find a backing and get this sunshiny happy square quilted and put to use!

I dug through some donated yardage. Lots is blues, purples! Way at the bottom, the perfect smiley face!

I quilted with my go-to #4 stitch on my machine...lengthened to almost 4.0 and as wide as it will go. Be sure to change to a walking foot or at least the #1 foot, or you’ll break a needle! Ask me how I know! !

I used yellow thread on most of it, but switched to navy in the sashings.

I found a dark navy ,really pretty batik!  The perfect binding for this coffee center mat! I cut the strips 2 1/4" and attached it.

And it's done!

The back with the smiley faces. It looks a bit wavy, but that is where it was folded in my go bag!  It really lays flat!

In use!  Much better that crowding all the stuff on the knitted dishcloth.

Even Mr Busy commented!  "It looks really good!" Room for his meds, my meds, my dry creamer,
a stack of coasters, and a jar of coffee stirrers. The tiny barn in front of the electric tea kettle holds packets of artificial sugars! And the big barn holds K-cups!  I'm a happy girl!

I'm linking up with Table Scraps Challenge hosted by Joy at The Joyful Quilter. Join the others that will share their table scraps projects the last week of every month. So FUN!!!!!! I’m also linking up with Alycia at Finished or Not Finished Friday. It’s the only project that I finished this week!

I LIKE THURSDAY #32

I Like linking up with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color to share the positive likable things that surrounded me lately!

This week's things are random as they happened. And my camera roll recorded them!

Tuesday was my birthday!  In the mail,  this cup and key chain arrived!  From my ex-DIL!  That was unexpected. She and our son have been divorced for 5 years.

The key chain says. "Beautiful Things come together One Stitch at a time!"  And then it also has tiny charms, a sewing machine, a scissors and a quilt block. So sweet of her to do that!

I got the quilt done for the newest great nephew and it is on its way to Minnesota. It should arrive today!

Front is Wiggle Time by Cynthia Brunz and the back is a panel from Connecting Threads.
I'm sure some of you are tired of seeing this. But for me to do a quilt, start to finish in one month is rare!

We got our 2nd Covid vaccine. It was so easy!  The process was well orchestrated by our County Health Department and the Emergency Management Department.  And we had little or no side effects.

My family that relocated to Florida just one year ago this month, sent this beautiful cheery bouquet for my birthday!.  Then "just us girls and the great grands" Zoomed for over an hour. They sang Happy Birthday to me and we talked and talked and talked!

While we talked on Zoom. Mr Busy worked on the Dogs Galore puzzle.  He did peek in on the Zoom meeting a little, because the great grands, asked. "Where's Pa?"  After lunch we finished this challenge of a puzzle!  Hooray! This picture shows 3 pieces still to be placed, but it is DONE!

Mr Busy said I didn't have to cook Tuesday night, so we ordered Applebee's Carside to Go!  That was nice.

And then our son called me and wished me Happy Birthday too!  It was a very good birthday.

We washed the car yesterday. It was chilly but the roads are all dry, so it seemed like a good time to get that Equinox cleaned up.

The dog puzzle came apart and went back in the box. It will be shared with my friend and her husband as soon as he is ready. He is recovering from foot surgery, so he has been busy with puzzles.  He's much better at them than Mr Busy and me. I wonder how long this one will take him?

We are watching Everwood on Prime.   And the new season of  For All Mankind on Apple TV+.

Mr Busy finished LONG RANGE by C.J. Box and is waiting on the his new release. It's not available on LIBBY yet!

Tuesday To-Do # 28

I'm linking my Tuesday To-Do list at ChrisKnits.  I am so glad Chris decided to take over the job of hosting this linky party. I need this accountability place.

Last week:  Feb 16th - Feb 22nd

1. Make binding and a quilt label for Noah's quilt. ✅

A basket of raindrops for binding!

Label attached to the lower right corner!

2. Finish OMG post and get ready to post it!  I somehow did not post the goal setting one to Patty's link up so I won't be eligible  for prizes, but that's not the reason I set OMG goals.

My post is finished as of 2-21-21 and was linked up 2-22-21. I contacted Patty last week when I realized my post was not in the Goal setting link up and she was kind enough to add my post to the Goal Link Up.   I wasn't expecting that, but am grateful!

3. Get my Table Scraps for February to the finish line.✅

I cut some dark navy batik for binding! It will be done by Friday!

4. Not quilt related:  get my 2nd Covid-19 vaccine!! ✅

Yup!  Done!  Still will follow guidelines. Wear a mask, wash my hands, social distance!  No herd immunity yet! Must be patient!

This week! Feb 23 (it’s my birthday) - March 1st.

1. Make some yellow quotation marks for RSC “Full Stop!”

2. Go back and make pink hashtags for “Full Stop” if I get the quotation marks done!

3. Make something green for March!

4. Help get the Dogs Galore puzzle to completion! This is where we are today!

February 2021 One Monthly Goal Finish Link Up

My one monthly goal (OMG) for February was to get the Noah's Ark baby quilt to a completed top. So  I reached that goal.

I used the Wiggle Time pattern from Cynthia Brunz at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework. This is the second time I have made this pattern..Cynthia's directions are clear and concise. And her technique is simple and straightforward. However, leave it to me to decide to use a fabric that needed to be fussy cut.

The pattern uses 12  - 4.5"(unfinished) squares for each 'wiggle". Luckily, this fabric has four different arks, so I was able to cut three of each. Orange, gray, blue and yellow/green!  Perfect!  By using my design wall, I was able to layout the arks and arrange them with the corresponding background.

Then I started to cut the raindrops.

Raindrops have a definite up or down. So I couldn't stand some of them on their pointy little heads. So those were pieced in sections so that some were cut with the background at the top of the strip and some with the background at the bottom of the strip. That worked smoothly too!

I also bought a corresponding panel! Now I have trimmed the panel....of course, it was not quite square. Then I have to add to it to make it big enough for a longarmer. Somewhere between 3” and 6” bigger on all for sides is required. The top is 48 X 54. So my backing needs to be, 60 X 76, then try to find a quilter that isn't booked til spring!

So this panel needs some more borders to make it big enough to meet the requirement of larger-than-the-top by 4" on each side! I called a quilter friend and asked her if she could do this quilt, she said yes. She likes at least 4 inches on each side bigger than the top. So I quickly pieced some navy blue and some more raindrop fabric, pressed well and trimmed threads and delivered it on Tuesday the 16th. Nicki called me at 7:45pm Tuesday and the quilting was done! I will pick it up on Wednesday. I had spent a bit of time on Tuesday preparing the binding, so I was ready! Baby Noah was born on Monday the 15th, so I am glad Nichole was so prompt in getting it done! I’ll make a label and get to the finishing part!

DONE!!  2-21-21

Obviously not an ark, but it is a water vessel ( pirate ship)

The back complete with label in the lower right corner.

The quilting design is called Splash of Love!  I think it is so cute!

I am tickled that I was able to start and finish this quilt in one month's time. Actually 21 days, from start to finish!  That may be a record for me!  Below is the link to the February Finish Link Up!

Finished or Not Finished Friday!

First the important finish! Covid -19 vaccination #2

We arrived at 8:29 for the 9-11am time slot for our last name!  There were about 35 cars ahead of us. They started letting cars through at 8:39.

By 9:13, we were all done and waiting our 15 minutes in the parking lot.  Mr. Busy reading a book on his ipad.

The next almost finish is the baby quilt for Noah!  Top is bound and the 2 top corners and around almost 1/2 way down side left side.  I usually start a few inches from a corner so I can get a corner out of the way!  It's just the way I do it!

Here is the back! . Mr Busy likes the back better than the front. I have to agree it a pretty cute panel.

I'm linking up with Alycia at Alycia Quilts for this weeks Finished or Not Finished Friday!.  I'm feeling pretty stoked about this one almost done. I'll get it in the washer this weekend then off to new baby in Minnesota!
