My one monthly goal (OMG) for February was to get the Noah's Ark baby quilt to a completed top. So I reached that goal.
I used the Wiggle Time pattern from Cynthia Brunz at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework. This is the second time I have made this pattern..Cynthia's directions are clear and concise. And her technique is simple and straightforward. However, leave it to me to decide to use a fabric that needed to be fussy cut.
The pattern uses 12 - 4.5"(unfinished) squares for each 'wiggle". Luckily, this fabric has four different arks, so I was able to cut three of each. Orange, gray, blue and yellow/green! Perfect! By using my design wall, I was able to layout the arks and arrange them with the corresponding background.
Then I started to cut the raindrops.
Raindrops have a definite up or down. So I couldn't stand some of them on their pointy little heads. So those were pieced in sections so that some were cut with the background at the top of the strip and some with the background at the bottom of the strip. That worked smoothly too!
I also bought a corresponding panel! Now I have trimmed the panel....of course, it was not quite square. Then I have to add to it to make it big enough for a longarmer. Somewhere between 3” and 6” bigger on all for sides is required. The top is 48 X 54. So my backing needs to be, 60 X 76, then try to find a quilter that isn't booked til spring!

So this panel needs some more borders to make it big enough to meet the requirement of larger-than-the-top by 4" on each side! I called a quilter friend and asked her if she could do this quilt, she said yes. She likes at least 4 inches on each side bigger than the top. So I quickly pieced some navy blue and some more raindrop fabric, pressed well and trimmed threads and delivered it on Tuesday the 16th. Nicki called me at 7:45pm Tuesday and the quilting was done! I will pick it up on Wednesday. I had spent a bit of time on Tuesday preparing the binding, so I was ready! Baby Noah was born on Monday the 15th, so I am glad Nichole was so prompt in getting it done! I’ll make a label and get to the finishing part!
DONE!! 2-21-21
Obviously not an ark, but it is a water vessel ( pirate ship)
The back complete with label in the lower right corner.
The quilting design is called Splash of Love! I think it is so cute!
I am tickled that I was able to start and finish this quilt in one month's time. Actually 21 days, from start to finish! That may be a record for me! Below is the link to the February Finish Link Up!
