Scrap Happy Saturday September Purple
It's the last Saturday in September. It's raining and COLD! It's 44 with "a feels like" of 35 degrees. There is a 6-8 year olds Football Game on the schedule this morning! BRRR and Yuk! Luckily they only play about 45 minutes.
The week was pretty productive in the scrap department.
I finished the last purple Tiny Tuesday block - Bright Hopes. And I sewed the necessary 3 more black Bow tie blocks. I am close to being ready to get the Bow Tie block quilt to a completed top ( flimsy) stage so I can decide on backing and get it off to the quilter.
Though that could be a problem. I have 2 favorite local long arm quilter friends. Lynn just got her machine back from the "hospital" after 5 weeks, so she is backed up. And Marva fell and broke her ankle 2 weeks ago. Plus they both are planning to snow bird this winter, so they will be unavailable for several months. I am going to have to find someone else, I'm afraid.
I completed a 3rd Scrappy Sprout Here are all three. In the project box they go! I have no plan for them, so have no idea how many I may need. It's a WIP!
I finished the binding and the big stitch quilting on my October Retreat Challenge. Here is a sneak peak.
I finished my QOV for presentation in November. And finished 8 blocks for the current CiL block drive. See that post here.
Ill be linking up to Angela's Scrap Happy Saturday and Cynthia's .Oh Scrap!

Finished or Not Friday 9-27-19
I'm posting in Alycia's linky party this week.
The QOV is done, except for the label. I washed and dried it with 4 color catchers. They picked up lots of red, from the backing I think.
I have made contact with my veteran recipient and she is tickled. I have known her since she was a little girl, we are friends with her dad. I know she served in the Air Force, several tours I think. Now she is a police officer in our small city. I need to get few more details about her. Our presentation will be in November.
The other “finish “ this week, was a finish of 8 blocks for Covered in Loves September-October block drive. I have been sending 8 blocks every two months for the last 2 years. These are 12.5" unfinished and based on a Split 9 Patch tutorial posted here. The sizes are posted on Kat's Covered in Love tab on her blog. There is plenty of time to join in, just check it out!
I did spend some time cutting fabric for projects to take to a retreat the 3rd week in October. There will be a post about that later in October.

September Finish for OMG (One Monthly Goal)
My goal was to get the binding on Wiggle Time.
That's a pretty good corner! "happy face"
All rolled up. I even washed it and dried it so it would be all soft and crinkly for baby L.
And now it is in the mail to little Miss L.
I also had another goal for September. To get the quilting and the binding on my October Retreat Challenge project. The machine quilting is done, the binding is on. I wrote about this challenge here.
I just did some straight line, sort of channel stitching in some parts and the long wiggle line in the polka dot sashing. I have a spool of orange, brown, gold variegated thread that I am trying to use up!
On the floor in my family room. It's very scrappy but I kind of like it. Orphan blocks, challenge provided charm squares and a purchased black and white dotted fabric to tie it all together. I, also, tried a new binding technique, I'll blog about it soon.

ScrapHappy Saturday Purple Week 3
I am slowly going through my purple/lavender scraps. I did not think I had a lot left after En Provence back a few years. But my little shoebox bin is still full!!!
My three purple Tiny Tuesday blocks. Gosh, these have been so great! Challenging, yes, but I feel my piecing and cutting have improved in the process! Thank you, thank you, Angela and the other bloggers who have pitched it with block designs.
And of course, I have the necessary six Bow Tie Blocks. This one is getting close to being able to put up on the design wall and put together.
I have one Scrappy Sprouts block done and one on the mini design board. The one on the bottom is together, the to-be-sewn is on the top.
See the kind of lavender square just to the right of the stem, above. Well, it was in a pack of mini charms I received as a birthday gift. The edges are pinked.
The whole block should be 6 1/2 inches square, which means the outside edge square should be
2 1/4. See how the zig zag pinked edges are outside the ruler. Extra trimming required. Sometimes I make sure the little minis are 2 1/2 inches before I start to piece them. Just a little rant!
That's it for ScrapHappy Saturday!. I will link this up to Angela's post.

Today is another Flag Football game for our 6 year old great grandson. It's 44 degrees right now and its drizzle ing! It's 7:55 AM the game is at 9AM. I don't hold out much hope for improvement. The forecast is for a high of 55

Yikes! My 3 Most Dreaded Words!
I always used to say my 3 morst dreaded words were, "miniature", "paper pieced" " stars" Now I can add, "tiny", "paper pieced" "storm at sea" . I really like the Storm At Sea block, I really like purple, I wanted to challenge myself!
Well, my attempt was a fail.
My block ended up being bigger than 5" unfinished. I went back and reread Angela's directions. I did not DOUBLE check the print out to make sure the pieces were correct. Now, what do I do, the squares are kind of wonky! Redo it and see if I can improve? Fudge the setting pieces so they finish at the proper size of 7.5"? I am behind on my Tiny Tuesday blocks as it is!
I think I am going to go forward. Set the block and make sure it is correct for the quilt. Catch up with the blocks I have missed. Then if the block still bothers me, I'll try and redo it!.
And so I did! Not the redo, the accept and go on part!
With the setting triangles on Storm at Sea and the lantern block done also:
Now to catch up on the setting of the blue blocks and continue with the purples. Today is Mr Busy's birthday. No big celebration planned. There are cards on the table that have arrived in the mail. I am planning a crockpot meal, and maybe we will go out for pie!

Well, my attempt was a fail.
the tiny pieces moved around, the glue was not much help
From afar it's not TOO bad!

Finished and Not So Finished= Finished or Not Friday!
I finally have a finish! It's Wiggle Time, a baby quilt for a great great niece. She was supposed to arrive Oct. 2nd, but there was some stress on mama and baby, so an unplanned C-section happened on Wed. 9-11-19. I am so glad I was nearly finished, just the last side of binding was happening on Thursday at my regular Thursday Stitchers group.
And now this:
And my quilter finally got her machine back. She had to drive 3 hrs to the dealer to pick it up after 6 weeks, and they found nothing wrong!!!!
So the quilt for QOV is quilted and today the binding was under my needle.
This is backing fabric and also used as binding. You can see the lovely quilting that Lynn did.
So more binding in my future this weekend.

Finished or Not Friday Sept 6
I'll be linking up with FONF at Alycia Quilts.
Again, nothing finished. Camping, laundry after camping, football practice, birthday preparations all got in the way. I did crochet a bid on my raggy rug while camping. I think it needs four more rows to be the correct size to fit in front of the refrigerator in the camper. I hadn't planned on using it there, but as I was sitting and crocheting on it, it seemed like a good idea.
The edge is uneven, I don't know for sure what I am doing wrong. It's been a long time since I crocheted. I think I will try to block it when I am finished.
And I did get almost finished with the embroidery on this block.

| the snowmen still need eyes! |
It is #8 of 12 needed for this cute Christmas wall hanging/ small quilt.
All the blocks, so far!
I have the 9th one traced and the 2" borders in the middle. I am going to push getting all of them done so I can assemble them at my October Retreat! Lofty goal, I know!
Anyway, today is Birthday Lunch day at the Senior Center. Mr Busy's birthday is this month, so we will be celebrating with some fellow "seniors"! Then grocery day, then maybe home to sew or stitch.

September OMG One Monthly Goal
I actually have two small goals for September. The first is to get the binding on the Wiggle Time baby quilt that came back from the quilter last week.
And I will finish the quilting and get the binding on my October Retreat Challenge project.
Here is a sneak peak of that scrappy table runner.
I am linking up with Patty's goal setting link up party.
