I have a photo of my garlic knot flimsy, if by chance you haven't already seen it 17 times already! 

And a completion.  A book pillow aka tablet pillow for our young great granddaughter. They are leaving our area, moving to Florida. Her older brother has one and I thought this might make a loooong car ride a bit easier for all.

It's not like she doesn't like books, here proof:

but she does like learning on the tablet too!  And there will be lots of hours to fill!

Last Orange Saturday February 2020

Just a quick post to let you all know that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.

These are the extent of my orange RSC20 pieces. It's all good.
One geese migration block and 8 hollow nine patches.

These has been some other sewing in Feb. I sent 3 blocks to CiL.  Wow, these look mish mashed but maybe you can appreciate them.

And I sewed a Book Pillow alias Tablet Pillow for our young great granddaughter. I was gifted some children's fabric and this one worked perfectly. Luckily I had a scrap of the perfect purple to make the pocket.

Small finished and the next step to a bigger finish.

A couple of finishes and one not yet!

Some time ago,  I mentioned a use of flannel scraps. I had bits and pieces of leftovers from several baby quilts. So, I can't throw them, I made a good sized square.

Then it went back in the drawer.
Now that our great grands have moved it, and Miss B received another baby for Christmas......Gwamma needed to finish that project. I looked through my bin of larger flannel pieces and found a cute pink monkey print. It was big enough.

So I cut it to size, put right sides together, left an opening and did a flip and turn.  Then put bright pink thread on the machine, and did some decorative stitching around the edge and a serpentine stitch, in thirds.

It's being used and that is the goal, always!

And the only other "finish" was to get the label on my Bowtie quilt. Mr Busy and I took a quick road trip to South Dakota last weekend. A chance to get away for a bit and rest. So no sewing was done, but this hand work was completed yesterday at my Thursday Stitchers group!

There is a scrap of washi tape over the quilters last name and mine. Just for privacy!

Last but not least the final borders are on my 2019 Temperature Quilt. It needs to be backed and quilted. Then I will applique the year in the upper black border and add tiny buttons on the family birth dates. I am thinking about a stripe of the color range on the back. That isn't done yet, as I haven't decided on backing fabric and who will quilt this 51 x 52 quilt.

This is hanging in the hall at the bottom of our stairs. I can't get far enough to get it all in one shot. So here is the top 2/3s and:

None of these are necessarily post worthy, certainly not Whoop Whoop worthy, but at least they are documented.

Finished or Not Friday - 10-4-19

Not a lot accomplished in the finished department this week. I got my One Monthly Goal on the design wall, decided on a layout, made the 3 necessary blocks to complete that.

This project is going with me to Retreat on the 22nd. So I marked all the rows and webbed the first two columns together. Then stacked columns 3,4,5,and 6 in order top to bottom.

I also did a bit of sewing that wasn't a quilt. In my stash, and I save most everything, I still had a piece of black and white gingham left over from a gathered skirt that I made when I was 15. My  paternal grandfather embroidered trees in white on the bottom of the skirt. Border fabric was very popular then and he and my grandmother "made" border fabric. My sister's skirt was lavender and white gingham. Oh, I wish I had a photo!

When my own daughter was about 4, I made her a dress out of the fabric. ( there is a lot of fabric in a full gathered skirt.) Now, her granddaughter, my oldest great granddaughter is 3 and that leftover small chunk of fabric needed to be used. I purchased a black t-shirt at Walmart. I followed  a tutorial
from https://www.coralandco.com/blog/2018/04/easy-t-shirt-dress-tutorial.html.  I would have liked to have enough fabric to make a really full skirt, but sometime you work with what you have.

I found a half a package of covered button blanks and there was just enough fabric from squaring up the skirt rectangle to cover two 1/2" buttons. I sewed them to the neckline, vertically. I haven't tried it on Miss B yet, but I took her measurements last week so I am sure it's pretty close. I will finish the final hem, after she tries it on.


I'm cutting brown, dark scraps for Scrappy Sprouts. Not sure if brown sprout blocks are going to work, but I will make one to check and see.

September Finish for OMG (One Monthly Goal)

Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal - September Finish Link-up

My goal was to get the binding on Wiggle Time.

That's a pretty good corner!  "happy face"

 All rolled up.  I even washed it and dried it so it would be all soft and crinkly for baby L.

And now it is in the mail to little Miss L.


I also had another goal for September.  To get the quilting and the binding on my October Retreat Challenge project.  The machine quilting is done, the binding is on.  I wrote about this challenge here.

I just did some straight line, sort of channel stitching in some parts and the long wiggle line in the polka dot sashing. I have a spool of orange,brown, gold variegated thread that I am trying to use up!

On the floor in my family room. It's very scrappy but I kind of like it. Orphan blocks, challenge provided charm squares and a purchased black and white dotted fabric to tie it all together. I, also,  tried a new binding technique, I'll blog about it soon.

August OMG

This is what I started with. Sorry this is a video, I am so wobbly lately!

Then there was this! The pattern is called Wiggle Time by Cynthia Brunz.

Then I shifted the rows around.

I even tried rotating the photo to see if I liked that better!

I finally settled on this arrangement!

 And this backing!

Thursday the 22nd of August :   It is now in the hands of one of my favorite long arm quilter, Marva!.
And Sunday, the 25th she texted me that it was done!  So Monday, after lunch, I drove to her home to pick it up. I love it!  She did an awesome job, quilting it with variegated thread in a pantograph called Classic Blossoms.

The design sort of mimics the flowers in the aqua floral.  I love it!

It's draped over my antique child's rocker, but you can see it just need to be trimmed and bound. Here is the backing. I think the rainbows and the clouds really pick up the colors in the top.
I am going to bind it in the yellow plaid, if the LQS still has the fabric. I purchased it one month ago, so they should. That store is 150 miles from me, we are going that direction to camp in the Black Hills the day after Labor Day, so I will stop then and pick it up. I will call them today, to put it on hold. I will wait until the baby is born to complete the label, so I can include her name and pertinent birth info.

My OMG Goal for August was to get this quilt to flimsy stage. I have gone to the next step, so it is a Completed Goal!!

Scrappy Tiny Tuesday Blocks all Caught Up PLUS

Last Sunday, I think , I cut the tiny pieces for the last pink block and 2 blue blocks. The Tiny Tuesday Blocks have been such a challenge for me! Fun, for sure, not always perfect, but so good for me!

I have not set them either straight or diagonally. I am not sure about them. The Double 9 patch, I hope to set diagonally because.....look at the center! The fabric is little angels and pink breast cancer ribbons, when you cut so small you never know what you will get, but I got an almost perfectly centered little red headed angel face peeking out at me.  I have be able to see her!

I really liked doing Libby’s block too...but am crushing on her fabrics more than mine! Teehee 😜!

I am working on a figure-it-out-as-you-go, table runner for a challenge. It is got me in a "pickle".  I don't have EQ, so graph paper is my go-to. Sigh!  It is definitely scrappy, and definitely not blue. I'll have pictures next week!

I did get my Wiggle Time top completed. That was my OMG for August. And I purchased flannel for the back. Now to get on the list for my long arm quilter. The baby is due the 2nd of October and it must be mailed. But I hope to wait to find out her name, so I can make a proper label.

 I chose this Snuggle Flannel from JoAnn's. It has been washed and today I will piece it per the pattern instructions.
