Table Scraps Challenge March= Yellow and or Song Lyrics/SongTitle/Poetry

So there was some yellow fabric cut and sewed into potato chip blocks in March

And there were scraps leftover that became crumb blocks.

Then I thought of lots yellow themed song titles or song lyrics. I’d made a similar one last year for PQ 15.2 January 2024

This could have been, “Here comes the Sun” or “ Put on a Happy Face” so I didn’t want to do sunshine again.

So this is my finish: Remembering John and George, Paul and Ringo. Did you watch Ringo’s Grand Ole Opry Debut, last week? Yellow Submarine was written by Paul McCartney with lead vocals by Ringo Starr.,

Yellow Submarine

I finally found a free graphic of a submarine.  I traced the sub and the periscope and the propeller. In retrospect  the propeller and the periscope probably should have been lighter. Maybe gray?

The blue fabric with bubbles, seaweed and even fish was a surprise to find. It was a chunk and determined the size of this mini. SCORE!  I dumped one of my button jars. I didn’t get a photo, cause I ended up bent over picking up spilled buttons. 😲 These blue buttons were from either my mom’s stash or my MIL’s craft stash. Either way, they found a home as portholes on the sub. I added triangle corners when I sewed on the 1 7/8ths inch binding. It will probably live in my sewing room.

I’m linking up with Joy at The Joyful Quilter, our hostess for Table Scraps Challenge 2025!

And with Alycia, for  Finished or Not Friday

And since only crumb blocks and one more potato chip block were completed, I’ll link this post with Scrap Happy Saturday!

MARCH. 27

Join other bloggers who share their good things on Not Afraid of Color

I’m starting to get my sewing mojo back. I spent most of the week, sewing yellow crumb blocks. And then got to thinking about Table Scraps Challenge. The prompts for March are yellow and Son Lyrics or Poetry. I thought of lots of yellow things.

There were yellow crumbs constructed.

And progress made on Table Scraps project.

Today I will spend several hours with some like minded friends, stitching and doing handwork. My newest project will be this bunny sampler.

LeeAnna asks: What was growing up in your hometown like?

I grew up in the 2nd largest town/city in South Dakota. That meant that we had lots of company in the summer. Because the Black Hills were so close, relatives and friends wanted to visit, Mt Rushmore, The Needles, Custer state Park, and other tourist attractions. We also had a cabin near Custer, so lots of weekends in the summer were spent wading in a creek, fishing at a beaver dam, eating hamburgers and hot dogs and my mom’s awesome potato salad on the front porch of the cabin. I was blessed with church going loving parents and grandparents that visited several times a year. I took piano lessons, baton twirling lessons, ballet, ( my parents gave me every opportunity to do activities,  but I was a bookworm) and I was in 4-H and Girl Scouts and church youth groups.

Nothing new in the FOOD & DRINK department.

But I’ve started a new book for my F2F Book Club.

So far it is interesting.

Mr Busy and I have been binging on The Residence (on Netflix) ,

and House of David which streams on Prime Video

2025~~SAHRR FINISHED PARADE

Today is the day for the SAHRR Parade. I’m linking up at Quilting Gail.

This is how my project (just the top) finished.

I used some red fabric for the backing.

It’s called Autumn’s Charm, but it looks Christmas-y to me.

As I was making the back I noticed that the white portions of the salvage were pinkish. I did remember prewashing that piece. But decided to stay stitch around the edges and wash it again when I washed my dresser topper.

I did that yesterday. I used 2 Color Catchers but did not put it in the dryer.

The color catchers after washing. Glad I decided to do that.

This is the dresser topper just out of the washer! No pink! All good!.
Last night I cut a piece of Hobbs batting, 48 X 48 and this morning when I get back from the Rec Center, I’ll press the backing and get it ready to deliver to my quilter. Her husband had knee replacement surgery, so she took a short break from her long arm.

This is my 3rd time participating in SAHRR and I am most pleased with the outcome. My success stems, I think, from having enough of consistent background fabric and some good coordination of the other fabric. Scrappy is not easy to do on these projects.

Can’t wait til next time. Thank you to Gail and to Kathleen, Anja, Wendy, Brenda, and Emily for this year’s SAHRR.

Slow Sunday Stitching 3-23-25

Today is a day to rest and recharge. I’m in need of a recharge.

I think there is a cute bunny alphabet sampler that would be a fairly quick finish and I could use a FINISH. I looked last night at Pinker n Punkin Quilts, there is no shortage of inspiration there.

I stitched this small stitch last year. I double checked, it was 2023! Unbelievable! It’s also from Melisa at Pinker n Punkin Quilts. I’d almost forgotten about it. How do you store your seasonal decorations?

Rainbow Scrap Challenge and Project Quilting 16.6

My week has been a total flop

Monday I had my semi-annual follow up to my annual Medicare Wellness Check. We talked about seeing the orthopedic specialist regarding my “trigger thumb”. I don’t want surgery.

Then Mr Busy and I went to our county recreation center and walked the indoor track.

I was mulling over the PQ prompt “Button it Up”

I couldn’t come up with a plan. So I cleaned my sewing space. And did some ironing, while the washer was going.

Mr Busy continued to watch YouTube videos of the goings on in our nation’s capital. I can’t!

Tuesday and Wednesday were much the same except we had a winter storm watch. We got approximately 6 inches of snow.

Still I tried to sew, PQ kept nagging at me. A design made itself known But it upset me. It was political in theme. And the more I thought about it the madder I became.  So I did nothing.

Thursday I stitched with friends. We were at the golf club again. We had a good turnout and some great projects were shared. I slept fitfully, my orthopedic appointment was early Friday morning. I was nervous.

Up early Friday morning. Did I go to  my sewing room to put my night disturbances under the needle? Nope! I wiled away the time with coffee and iPad. I asked hubby to go with me. Normally I’m not a “baby”, but I was nervous. I received a cortisone injection into the base of my thumb. This morning  there is still some pain, but also some improvement.

I apologize for this whiney post. I’m going to try to “get my act together” before I post again.

I did not sew Yellow and I did not make a Project Quilting 16.6 challenge entry. If you click the links in the previous sentence, you’ll see some wonderful entries in both these challenges. Hopefully Spring will come and my attitude will improve.

I LIKE THURSDAY

 Happy First Day of Spring!

I like the first buds of Spring. I’m not seeing any in my neighborhood, but I will.

There was this sign of Spring…the first Robin.

He was a bit confused about the snow, so was I. This was Tuesday.

We don’t often cook breakfast. But last Sunday we did. Eggs, bacon, grits and cinnamon toast. So yummy!

Are you a fan of grits? Some people aren’t.

We are watching each new episode of 1923. GOSH, we like that one. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are joined by several pretty good young actors.

And, Suits L.A. too!  But the jury is still out on that one.

I finished this book, last night. I give it 4.7 of 5 ⭐️

It was slow to start, but it’s grew on me.

Book Club is Monday afternoon, we will be discussing Remarkably Bright Creatures  I enjoyed that one too!  Have you read it?  What did you think?

Slow Sunday Stitching. March 16

As I reviewed last week’s post, I found there were promises made that were not kept.

I did complete the stitching of the temperature pluses. I did not get it dated and signed. Nor washed and blocked. 😟

Shoot! As I look at this photo , I forgot to go back and find the coldest day of the year and outline it. See the red one, right side half wash down? That was July 25th. The high was 105°! Unusual for us. The coldest day was January 15th 2024 at -5°. No so unusual.

I worked mostly on some neutral nine patches for Many Hands and Many Hearts and some yellow RSC projects.

And the second octopus is on the way to completion.

Today, I hope to secure the back of the Spring Alphabet with stitching so, I can mount it to another backing. I haven’t quite figured out just what.

I did not start on a Spring/Easter/Bunny stitch. But I found several to consider on Melisa’s blog . Check out her current post and peruse her older posts for lots of freebies.

ScrapHappy Saturday…Middle of March!

Not much sewing this week. I did cut 9, different neutrals that read white, 3.5 “ square, 3 times. I made 3  more nine patches to go to the current block drive over at Quilting is more fun than Housework.

I gathered  9 different neutrals with a creamy background to make some of those. Cynthia has asked us NOT to mix them.

It’s a subtle difference. There was lots of rearranging and rearranging again.

There was some sewing with yellow also. One yellow potato chip block was finally completed.

And there is a crumb block under my needle.

I LIKE Thursday. 3-13-25

I follow Sweatpants and Coffee on Facebook and she posted this meme from Mona Lisa Nyman. I like it!

I visited the office where I used to work. I help them out occasionally when the owner and the other signer are both gone at the same time. Anyway, a couple of AP checks needed to be signed, so I dropped in.  In 2010 we moved into this office space. It has wrap around windows in the corner of the 7 story building. I brought a golden Pothos from our former office, to live in the office of the boss, the owner.

This is what that one small plant has become. Some of the leaves are bigger than my hand!

The weather has warmed up quite a lot. Should be near 60°  today, Wednesday. And some sun.  Come on Spring.

I made cookies for the neighbor who cleared our driveway and walks last weekend. I didn’t get a photo, but think Preppy Kitchen’s Peanut Butter Cookies.  There were more than the 18 it was supposed to make. So we got to have a few too! Yummy.

LeeAnna asks:

in honor of St Patrick's day, what is your favorite shade of green? do you have any clothes in that color? accents for the home like pillows, duvets, etc?

Oh gosh! I like all greens.

I wear dark forest green in the winter. I have a long sleeved t-shirt that I wear underneath a fleece vest. It’s more forest green than this photo shows.

I wear light green and lime green in summer. I have several green shirts and 2 pair of light olive green capris.

Our living room is painted 2 shades of sage green.

Our bedroom has a dark green accent wall. It’s called Bayberry.

My sewing room is a different sage green! Yup! I like green.
