ScrapHappy Saturday 8-29-26 and 9-5-26

 

 I’m sharing at ScrapHappy Saturday. Last Yellow Saturday and ScrapHappy Saturday in Purple

My intention was to get the last yellow and aqua (from July) 16-patch starts done and on the design board. It did not happen. 

Edited  Now it’s  9-5-26:

All done now!  4 from July, and 4 for August.!

I am looking forward to PURPLE..    

         I dug out my purple scrap bucket. 

Made some choices: 

I’ve been listening to the audio version of The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin. It is so good. 

I’m also reading the print book Circle of Days by Ken Follett. 

Our life is busy. Next Saturday (actually today) is a birthday party for the younger great grandson, who’s “finally taller than Grandma”. He’s 13!

Our bathroom renovation is progressing, but slowly. I’m so ready for the disruption to be over, and to be settled back in our bedroom. The glass for the shower won’t be ready for 2-3 weeks! Good grief!

I don’t have many photos to share, but maybe there will be more next Thursday. This weekend my youngest great grandson is having his 13th birthday party. His grandma, our daughter, is coming from Loveland to help celebrate. 

Last week at our Thursday Stitchers gathering, a newbie stitcher, showed her Chicken Quilt  She bought this as a panel and used it to learn to do basic stem stitch, back stitch, satin stitch and some french knots. She is finally finishing it. It was a labor of love. The striped binding is a perfect choice. 

I ‘m diving into my purple scrap bucket, to get started on September RSC color. 

I’m still reading 

And listening to The Music of Bees on my way to and from my arm therapy. Today is last day of that , so I’ll have to find another time to listen.  I’m in the market for new earbuds. Any suggestions?

I joining LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for this weeks conversation about likes. Lee Anna suggested this conversation starter:

what back to school supply would you like to have now as an adult? Fresh new notebooks? markers or new crayons? fat pack of ruled paper? lunchbox?  LOL  tell us your fave    I guess my answer would be pens and fine line pencils. My accumulated stash of ball point pens has dwindled in recent years. I got used to gel pens when I worked. But now I like different colored pens. Now’s the time to buy them. I’m definitely going to stock up. I did notice that when we did our absentee ballots for Tuesday’s primary, the instructions specifically stated no gel pens and only black ink. 

 Not much time at the sewing machine lately, but as I was arranging yellow and aqua (from July’s RSC) 2 1/2” squares for my 16 patch stars, I discovered a really good use for the plethora of political ads we received in the mail. I used them for dividers between the  blocks on my portable design boards. LOL They were sturdy card stock and plenty big enough to keep the pieces separated! 

On Sunday our granddaughter and her kids spent a few hours with us. Our youngest great grandson, took much pleasure in noticing “that he was finally taller than me”. Indeed he is. His 13th birthday is early September. 

His little sister, 10 years old, isn’t that far behind. 

We took a mixed up stair step photo in front of our stair railing!  😄

We have been watching the new seasons of Lioness on Paramount+, and Reacher on Prime. 

I’m still working on CIRCLE OF DAYS by Ken Follett. And listening to THE BOYFRIEND by Freida McFadden . 

I’m also embroidering pincushion with initials. The next one is for MJ, then S, D, then A. . 

Did I show these last week?  I think I did. 😟

They are fun to do.

I finished two more pin cushions yesterday. The “C” went in the mail yesterday . To CS in California, an early snowbirder this year. Their grandbaby #2 is due soon. They have a park space to stay. So it will be a wonderful happy time for them.

The ‘d’ goes with me today to Thursday Stitchers. DB’s birthday is next Tuesday. 

Last week we had our pup spayed. She was sedated both physically and mentally for several days. 

She’s back to her very busy self today. 

Last week I showed you a pot of volunteer/wintered over small white petunias. Tuesday this week, a bright pink on bloomed. You can bet I was tickled!. Do you think I’ll get more pink ones?

I almost always read novels. But if the AARP magazine shows up I’ll peruse it too. Reading recipes, maybe an article that looks interesting. This summer had been a slow read summer. So many distractions. I am reading Circle of Days by Ken Follett.   As usual it is a big one. It’s enjoyable. It’s a saga of the peoples living near a stone circle. Reminds me of the  Earth’s Children series by Jean M. Auel.  I  also listening to The Boyfriend by Freida McFaddden.  It’s a psychological thriller.

did you ever dye your hair, or perm and it turned into a disaster?

I have colored and permed my hair often. No more coloring and the jury is still out on the perming. I don’t remember a specific disaster, but I’ve had a few home perms. Back in the late 50’s. I’m sure some of them were awful. This photo is proof. My sister, on the right and I had perms before this Christmas photo was taken by our Dad for the family Christmas card. Maybe 1958!  Pretty ugly!

The weather has finally warmed up in the morning, so Emily and I can be outside. It’s my favorite summer time activity, to be outside in the mornings with my coffee and a book or my tablet. 

Our book club has finished for the time being. We run on a school district schedule. Most of the founding members were teachers. Slowly, others have filtered in. Our summer reads are Crow Talk by Eileen Garvin

 and Circle of Days by Ken Follett. 

I ordered this one used from Amazon. It came from a 3rd party seller, The Salvation Army in California. It is in perfect condition. I’m glad I agreed to purchase it. 

I have started it. So far I like it. I think I will have to schedule time every day to read. It’s a big one, 688 pages.

I’m still struggling to get time in the sewing room or even doing slow stitching in the evenings. Puppy supervision is a real chore. And I’m too tired in the evenings. Not really complaining, just fact. 

Mr Busy and Emily are napping. I wonder if I can sneak into the sewing room for a bit? 🤞😉

We are continuing with good weather , but there is a forecast for change. Snow on Sunday. Typical for Springtime in Wyoming. 

The puppy is keeping us on our toes. I have the nicest friends. Last week, at our Stitching Gathering, there was a brown paper bag marked Doggie Bag. In it were 2 new chew toys and this card.

For National telephone day,  what is your relationship with phones? lol

always have it with you? Check it at intervals or use it mainly for calls? Remember when there was one phone for the family hanging on the wall? Remember party lines? Do you use a phone as a computer even tho the screen is so small? Fave apps on the phone?

I try to have it with me. If it rings I will rush to answer it. Guess that stems from all my years as an office worker. My phone and Mr Busy’s are the only phone we have. No landline anymore. We didn’t have a party line. My parents had a business and the business line often rang in our house.

I don’t like using the phone as a computer because of the small screen. But if I’m not close to my iPad or laptop, I will. 

Favorite apps? Contacts, Messenger, Starbucks, Audible and My Chart. 

The next read for my Face 2 Face book club is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. Have you read it?

 I’m not a big fan of psychological thrillers, but I hope it’s well written.

ScrapHappy Saturday

 

I’m linking up with Angela and friends for the 2nd Red Saturday of March and Rainbow Scrap Challenge.. I made 2 16-patch Star blocks. And one is ready to sew. 

I’ve done a bit of math and decided I’ll need at least 4 of each color.  I got 2 green ones made for Feb and none for blue January. I guess I have some catching up to do. 

Tomorrow is the last for Project Quilting 17. I missed completing 17.5 “ of Another Era” and 17.6 “ My Complements “. I really hope I can complete this last one. Stay tuned. 

Also I started the quilting  on Make Do and Mend for 2026 SAHRR. The parade is the 25th, so I need to have it done by then. NO PRESSURE!!  LOL

I have just started reading. So far I like it and it’s RED.

What was the worst haircut you ever had?

There have been a few! Luckily I don’t have photos. lol. My mom always cut our bangs. Some were good, some not so much. In fact, I’m never really satisfied with a haircut until it’s about 10 days old. But I had a friend that had a real mishap. Back in the 70’s it was popular to razor cut fringe bangs. Her stylist was happily cutting her bangs when her hand slipped and cut a slice off the top of N’s nose!

But this week no haircut problems, though I’m not happy with this current one either. 

I put away the February Valentine decor. Slowly there is some March themed things appearing.  

A Kathy Schmitz seasonal stitch, a mostly green and shamrock table runner and March Alphabet Shamrocks from  Melisa at Pinker n Punkin Quilts and Stitching and a-made-years-ago, Patchabilities Shamrock skinny wall hanging. If you click on the link to Melisa’s blog and scroll down you will find a plethora a stitch charts for March. 

I received a late birthday gift from my daughter. It’s a journal. 

Yup. I’m 80. Can you see my name as part of the flower stem?  I thinks that’s so cool. 

The color is truer in the photo of the back. A lovely lavender.

It was a sunny warm day on Tuesday. We drove to Spearfish SD for lunch. While there we checked out their animal shelter. Many, many cats, one huge dog, and 4 medium sized. Mr Busy was really interested in one. Wish I’d taken a photo, but she barked and barked and barred her teeth. The attendant said she didn’t like kids, and would take some getting used to. But she just didn’t warm up to Mr. Busy. As soon as he said to her, “well I guess you’re not going home with me” she quit barking and laid down in the shade next to her kennel. 

My holiday cactus thinks it’s an Easter Cactus, by flowering early. Silly thing. 

And my birthday flowers are starting to fade.  Such a pretty pink. 

Off to my stitching group this morning. I’ll probably work on the St Patrick’s Day themed stitch. 

I love the green color, but not sure about the white sheep. Probably should have tea dyed this white fabric first. Hmmmm?
