I don’t remember if I shared this:  Mr Busy ad I drove to a nearby town for lunch several weeks ago . This sign was posted behind the bar.

did you ever dye your hair, or perm and it turned into a disaster?

I have colored and permed my hair often. No more coloring and the jury is still out on the perming. I don’t remember a specific disaster, but I’ve had a few home perms. Back in the late 50’s. I’m sure some of them were awful. This photo is proof. My sister, on the right and I had perms before this Christmas photo was taken by our Dad for the family Christmas card. Maybe 1958!  Pretty ugly!

The weather has finally warmed up in the morning, so Emily and I can be outside. It’s my favorite summer time activity, to be outside in the mornings with my coffee and a book or my tablet. 

Our book club has finished for the time being. We run on a school district schedule. Most of the founding members were teachers. Slowly, others have filtered in. Our summer reads are Crow Talk by Eileen Garvin

 and Circle of Days by Ken Follett. 

I ordered this one used from Amazon. It came from a 3rd party seller, The Salvation Army in California. It is in perfect condition. I’m glad I agreed to purchase it. 

I have started it. So far I like it. I think I will have to schedule time every day to read. It’s a big one, 688 pages.

I’m still struggling to get time in the sewing room or even doing slow stitching in the evenings. Puppy supervision is a real chore. And I’m too tired in the evenings. Not really complaining, just fact. 

Mr Busy and Emily are napping. I wonder if I can sneak into the sewing room for a bit? 🤞😉

We are continuing with good weather , but there is a forecast for change. Snow on Sunday. Typical for Springtime in Wyoming. 

The puppy is keeping us on our toes. I have the nicest friends. Last week, at our Stitching Gathering, there was a brown paper bag marked Doggie Bag. In it were 2 new chew toys and this card.

For National telephone day,  what is your relationship with phones? lol

always have it with you? Check it at intervals or use it mainly for calls? Remember when there was one phone for the family hanging on the wall? Remember party lines? Do you use a phone as a computer even tho the screen is so small? Fave apps on the phone?

I try to have it with me. If it rings I will rush to answer it. Guess that stems from all my years as an office worker. My phone and Mr Busy’s are the only phone we have. No landline anymore. We didn’t have a party line. My parents had a business and the business line often rang in our house.

I don’t like using the phone as a computer because of the small screen. But if I’m not close to my iPad or laptop, I will. 

Favorite apps? Contacts, Messenger, Starbucks, Audible and My Chart. 

The next read for my Face 2 Face book club is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. Have you read it?

 I’m not a big fan of psychological thrillers, but I hope it’s well written.

I’m linking up with Angela and friends for the 2nd Red Saturday of March and Rainbow Scrap Challenge.. I made 2 16-patch Star blocks. And one is ready to sew. 

I’ve done a bit of math and decided I’ll need at least 4 of each color.  I got 2 green ones made for Feb and none for blue January. I guess I have some catching up to do. 

Tomorrow is the last for Project Quilting 17. I missed completing 17.5 “ of Another Era” and 17.6 “ My Complements “. I really hope I can complete this last one. Stay tuned. 

Also I started the quilting  on Make Do and Mend for 2026 SAHRR. The parade is the 25th, so I need to have it done by then. NO PRESSURE!!  LOL

I have just started reading. So far I like it and it’s RED.

What was the worst haircut you ever had?

There have been a few! Luckily I don’t have photos. lol. My mom always cut our bangs. Some were good, some not so much. In fact, I’m never really satisfied with a haircut until it’s about 10 days old. But I had a friend that had a real mishap. Back in the 70’s it was popular to razor cut fringe bangs. Her stylist was happily cutting her bangs when her hand slipped and cut a slice off the top of N’s nose!

But this week no haircut problems, though I’m not happy with this current one either. 

I put away the February Valentine decor. Slowly there is some March themed things appearing.  

A Kathy Schmitz seasonal stitch, a mostly green and shamrock table runner and March Alphabet Shamrocks from  Melisa at Pinker n Punkin Quilts and Stitching and a-made-years-ago, Patchabilities Shamrock skinny wall hanging. I received a late birthday gift from my daughter. It’s a journal. 

Yup. I’m 80. Can you see my name as part of the flower stem?  I thinks that’s so cool. 

The color is truer in the photo of the back. A lovely lavender.

It was a sunny warm day on Tuesday. We drove to Spearfish SD for lunch. While there we checked out their animal shelter. Many, many cats, one huge dog, and 4 medium sized. Mr Busy was really interested in one. Wish I’d taken a photo, but she barked and barked and barred her teeth. The attendant said she didn’t like kids, and would take some getting used to. But she just didn’t warm up to Mr. Busy. As soon as he said to her, “well I guess you’re not going home with me” she quit barking and laid down in the shade next to her kennel. 

My holiday cactus thinks it’s an Easter Cactus, by flowering early. Silly thing. 

And my birthday flowers are starting to fade.  Such a pretty pink. 

Off to my stitching group this morning. I’ll probably work on the St Patrick’s Day themed stitch. 

I love the green color, but not sure about the white sheep. Probably should have tea dyed this white fabric first. Hmmmm?

what was your favorite subject in school... elementary, high school, or college... or did your favorite subject change over time? what was the teacher like? do you still have an interest in that subject?

I liked school! I liked English mostly. Elementary, I’m sure it was reading, High School it was English. I was in Advanced Placement English and Math. But dropped the AP math my senior year. I didn’t go to college but took some adult education Bookkeeping courses.

what is the most adventurous thing you've ever done? 

It’s a tie between snorkeling in the Caribbean and taking a motorcycle trip from Wyoming, ferrying across Lake Michigan on to Niagara Falls, back to Indiana to a Gold Wing Rally then home to Wyoming. 

Neither one very adventurous!

This week’s likes were sort of fun. My birthday was Monday. I received two handmade cards from 2 friends. 

Mr Busy bought me flowers!  These are my favorite. Lilacs, purple, and no scent because they are paper. 

I received this gorgeous bouquet from my local granddaughter and her family.

We had some warmer temperatures this week, but there was some wind. Sun and wind takes the snow away. And along with it the icy roads and walkways. 

Just tiny bits of snow left. 

This week I’m working on my Stay At Home Round Robin. Photos this weekend. 

Reading a new book!  For my F2F Book Club. 

I’m just getting started. I think it’s predictable….we will see!

Tuesday night we decided not to watch the State of the Union Address. Instead we watched Song Sung Blue on Peacock. Starring Hugh Jack and Kate Hudson. It has been years since I cried watching a movie. This one brought tears.

Yes, but I rarely pay for them. Sometimes I do. I did buy this Mt Shasta calendar when we were in Northern California for Christmas 2024. 

Who wouldn’t love looking at photos like these all month long?

But my other wall calendars are usually freebies from the bank, or the doctor’s office. 😀 See the first photo!

I do buy a personal planner/calendar. I’m always hoping it helps me be more organized. It does a little!

It’s cold inWyoming this week. Yesterday’s high was 28°, today 21° and tomorrow…9°  BRRR!

A good time to stay inside a sew. I’m participating in Project Quilting 17 this year. This week’s prompt, Scads of Plaids developed into this cute market bag. 

We received a puzzle for Christmas and it is finally finished. Mr. Busy worked on it mostly. I placed a few pieces.

Our next read for my F2F book club is  When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin. It was published in 2006, so it’s not new.  But every copy  in our library is checked out, so I have it on hold. Until then I’ll continue with this one. It was a gift from my daughter for Mother’s Day.

I LIKE Thursday. October ‘25

 

I like our local N.E. Wyoming Quilt Show. It gets bigger and better every year. This year there were 433 quilts displayed. 

In the Senior Catagory, this one done by my friend Sherry. 

And my 2025 Stay At Home Round Robin . Many of you saw this one in the making. 

In the Hand Embroidery catagory, this beauty done by my friend and fellow Thursday Stitcher, Aggie. 

My finally finished Hometown Christmas.  Glad to get it stitched, pieced, quilted and bound. It’s Done.

I can’t remember who did this one, but I have always liked this design. 

I don’t know the maker of this one either but it caught my eye..

There was a table of Other Quilted Items. Baskets, bowls, placemats, table runners. 

This one was done by my fiend Connie. She lost her husband in June, but he purchased the fabric for her and she will donate it as a fundraiser to a group she and Rick belonged to.

This one was unique. It’s a variation of the Wyoming state flag. 

This Art Quilt received an award. 1st place in the Small Quilt 2 Person Category.  Meaning one person pieced or constructed it, and a second person did the quilting. 

This one also won 1st place . In the  Youth 9-18age group. I believe this young woman was 14.

I’m reading 2 books during Banned Book Week. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about when this one was banned at our county library 2 years ago. It’s back on the shelf now. 

         

And I’m reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, 

because I never have and my book club read James by Percival Everett. There was so much criticism pertaining to the fact that it is a retelling of Huckleberry Finn, that I needed to read the book by Mark Twain. 

I read my book club’s current selection last winter, so I was able to read other titles. We meet Oct 20th to discuss, The Frozen River. 

I recommend this one. We’ll see what my book friends think. 😏

As for cozy clothes to wear. I’m looking forward to flannel lounge pants and my worn out fuzzy red slippers. My go-to outfit first thing in the morning. No pictures, I’m in bed as I type this Wednesday night. Maybe I’ll add an addendum to next week’s post. Sharing at Not Afraid of Color
