ScrapHappy Saturday A Bit of Green

I'm linking up at So Scrappy and Angela's weekly Saturday Linky Party for Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2022.

Not much green was stitched this week.

A tiny 3.5" green Hour block for May from Pieces in the Garden at Melva Loves Scraps. I am having such trouble with keeping these tiny block square. I like them when completed, but the actual sewing of them kicks my "tush".

And I stitched a second pixel block for CiL's May-June Block Drive, at Kat & Cat Quilts Scroll to the bottom of this post to see the link to the Covered in Love Block Drive tab.

This one in greens and purples!

I didn't get any green string blocks sewn. I had a small needle and 50  wt thread in the machine to try to get a handle on those tiny pieces of the Hour block above. I like a little heavier thread and a bigger, "paper only" needle when I sew strings on telephone book pages. So those didn't happen. Nor did the Sampler placemat/mini table topper. No excuses for that one, other than other things were going on.

I'm looking forward to sewing some blue for June.

May 2022 Table Scraps Challenge : dark greens and squares!

I’ve been cutting and sewing lots of squares lately! Hollow Nines is lots of 2” squares. My Happy Blocks start with a 4.5” square. Zig Zag rows start with 5” squares, then become HST. And Growing Up Odd has a total of 1456 2” squares.

I needed a mat for the lower part of the table next to my chair in the living room. It’s 11” square. Joyful suggested squares for the challenge. Angela picked forest green and sage green as the color for May. So I had a jumping off point!

There were still green scrapes on my cutting table. The pink flowers are on the new cover for my iPad. Never mind those!

I’ve been wanting to try this table runner pattern. It was a freebie in a mailing!

I wonder I’d I could just use some of the blocks and make a square?
I read and reread the directions. I laid out some different greens for squares! Yuck. They don’t seem to coordinate!  In the bottom of my scrap basket were cut offs from the construction of the actual scrap basket! Lightbulb  ðŸ’¡ moment! Make crumb blocks , Judy!

So…crumbs blocks were made!

Then I picked a creamy grunge for the contrasting sashing. I think it’s too much contrast and if I put sashing around all the blocks, it’ll be too big! Ugh!  Rearrange!

Well, that looks weird! Even after I quilted  in a grid in dark forest green to tone down the lightness of the sashing.

The blocks are fun though! Right?

The back and binding match. That scrap is almost all gone.

It looks good on my chair side table with my fav green mug! Maybe I should brew up some green tea and try it out!

It really is perfect!   There is no such thing as too much green!!!1.  Thanks, Joyful for the fun and “challenging” Challenge! Linking up at Table Scraps Challenge at The Joyful Quilter!

Like Thursday #97

We are watching    Bosch:Legacy on freevee!

New crimes, same Bosch.   Amazon Prime  "freevee"

I'm reading :

A modern day story with references to the Battle of the Little Big Horn.  I have read the 2 previous titles in this series. The author is a Wyoming resident. He served on the Sheriff's Department in our county.

I'm stitching the binding down on Frames.

A reddish Bachelor Block from Pieces of the Garden at Melva Loves Scraps

I'm still sewing blocks together forGrowing Up Odd.

Check out LeeAnna’s blog, Not Afraid of Color for a list of other participants in I LIKE Thursday. A great place to share all the dood things in the world today. Lately we could all use a little help in that task!

I will  be taking a short break from posting to I LIKE Thursdays.  Life has gotten in the way. I will be back at the end of June or early July.

May OMG Finish

My OMG for May was to get Hollow Nines trimmed, the binding constructed and then machine attached to it. I set my goal HERE

It’s all done now! The binding is attached, I had just enough to piece together the binding in the same green as the border.   And I have finished hand stitching it down. When it has a forever home, I’ll add a label!

To-Do Tuesday! #92

I’m sharing my list of tasks I hoped to accomplish from last Tuesday. There was success. I will link up with Linda at Texas Quilt Gal on Tuesday .

Last week.

1. Finish 1 pixel block for CiL. ✅

One pixel block done….seems like Denver Bronco colors, not intentional!

.
2. Make binding and hanging triangles for Frames. ✅

The binding has been cut, sewn together, pressed in half and coiled ready to be attached. The hanging triangles are ready too!

3. Stitch on September- Year in the Garden  ✅

Small progress, but progress, just the same!

4. Get top for Table Scrapes Challenge to “ready to quilt “ stage. ✅

It is quilted!

I’m not posting a to-do list for the upcoming week! There has been a “happening” and I am not sure what will happen next. I’ll be gone at least til the end of June. I may pop in and read some blogs, I might even comment now and then. But no goals will be set, no accounting will be published. Do not worry! It’s just a a temporary bump in the road!

Slow Sunday Stitching. Counted Cross Stitches R,W, B

Today, I'm working on the first of my summer patriotic small stitches.  A free pattern from Melisa at PinkernPunkin  Quilting & Stitching. Scroll to almost the end of this post for a link to this free chart.

I'm almost done with the stitching.  I used a scrap of 14 count Aida and just regular DMC floss in  White, Red (666) and Blue (312). I'll finish it into a bowl filler.  And then I want to do this one too. Also from Melisa.  Check her blog out for regular free charts. Thank you, thank you Melisa!!!

I really am excited to get these done to mix with my other Patriotic decor.  I'm linking with Kathy @ Slow Sunday Stitching.

ScrapHappy Saturday ~

There was sewing this week! Some crumb blocks were made in forest/ sage green. There’s a bit of lighter olive green too!

And a sage-ish green binding was built!

Just a peak, I'll post more next Friday. I have company coming from Florida!!!!!!!!! I might be busy with snuggles from 2 of our great grands!

Other sewing happened too! I started assembling the blocks of Growing Up Odd. These are big 17” blocks. Sashing between the blocks, set 4 X 4. A square picnic quilt!  Row one done plus the sashing strip between row 1& 2. Row 2 is nearly complete.

FONFF = 2 Not Finished

Last week I shared a finish. this week I worked on arranging the Growing Up Odd blocks and getting started putting them into rows.

This is too big for my design wall. Or maybe my design wall is too small?

Also this top from last week is now a quilt.

It is 3 layers. Top/batting/back. I haven't shown the backing yet and I still just love it. Elephants in dark blue, purple and a bit of green. I say they are Asian elephants because of the oriental front. *smile*.

So now to get the binding on. We have “snow” predicted, so there will be sewing time. I'll have another finish soon.  Wahoo!!. I’m linking up with Alycia for Finished or Not Finished Friday

I Like Thursday #96 A series of little things.

Happy Thursday Everyone!  I'm teaming up with other bloggers over at Not Afraid of Color, where LeeAnna gives us this place to share the thing we like or are thankful for.

This "thought" came up as a memory on Facebook today. It’s from six years ago. I think it is important enough to share again.

A week of so ago, Diann at Little Penguin Quilts showed a photo of her Lily of the Valley. I lamented that mine were not even poking through the ground.  But look what they are doing now.

And if you look really close there is a hint of a bud on the one at the bottom of the photo. I can't wait they smell so wonderful.

I finally had to order a new cover for my iPad. I wore the other one out. I don't spend a lot, it’s not an Otterbox brand!  But isn't it pretty?

And the back is clear so I can read the inscription that our son had put on it when he and his sister and Mr. Busy gifted it to me for Mother's Day in 2018.

And I love  "real" mail. This envelope with this lovely sentiment inside came in the mail, on Monday.

It's a handwritten thank you note from the staff at Mercy General Hospital. A thank you for the Positivity Quilt I sent to Bernie to donate to Mercyful Quilts last August. I think it is so special that someone took the time to write this lovely note.

I don't have a fancy camera, but we did have a pretty clear view of the lunar eclipse on Sunday night.

This one I zoomed in on a little bit.  It's still pretty pitiful, but it sure was awesome in "real life"!

Last but not least, I got all 16 blocks for Growing Up Odd done. I arranged it on the family room floor. Excuse the messy toy box in the background. The littles have been gone 2 years and it is unlikely they will be able to visit any time soon. So I probably should get rid of the "baby" toys.

I have started to put the blocks together. The first row is done. The next row is sashing and cornerstones and it is constructed but not joined to the top row.  I'll take photos next week.
