ScrapHappy Saturday~ Last Saturday of November

I linking my meager finishes with Angela at SoScrappy's ScrapHappy Saturday. We are away from home, so no machine sewing is happening. Some hand work has been done. I brought way too many scraps!

Dark Neutrals and Table Scraps Challenge for November. 

I gave some thought to portable, scrappy dark.  A mug mat came to mind. I have been wanting to do a Kawandi project after watching Linda's beautiful ones. Here is a link to her post about her first attempt.

Already hers are miles above my meager stitching. Maybe the dark fabrics isn't the way to go, to be true attempts at the Kawandi style. After all the Siddi women have fabulous, beautifully colorful fabrics to work with. But it does hide my inconsistent stitches. 

I’m using up small lengths of old embroidery floss, 2 strands, some darning cotton from my mom’s stash- 2 strands. Just winging it and learning as I go. 

For those of you who did not see this on a previous post, I did finish this seasonal table runner. 

It might benefit from some additional quilting in the center of the stars.  I wonder if I could do a big stitch outline ?

November Table Scraps Challenge.

My Table Scraps Challenge project is a true WIP this month. I had a few things, that took precedence. 

As we prepared to travel to our son’s house in Northern California, I remembered that I hadn’t made a plan.  It needed to be portable and it needed to be handwork! I had some hand projects in the works, but they did not fit the parameters of the challenge.

I’m using 2 strands of embroidery floss. Some short lengths of colors from my stash and from the stash I inherited from my mom. So far, dark green, and caramel. Maroon is up next. It will be very organic, or rustic, or just plain ugly! We will see. I will finish it, but it’s a challenge. The process hurts my hands. I watched a YouTube video where the artist uses a small pliers like tool to pull the needle through the layers of fabric. And a cylindrical pincushion like implement that she held in her hand. I will research that. 

So this is my entry in the challenge. Uncomplete at this date, but it will get completed.

Scrap Happy Saturday..November 5th

I’m linking up with Angela at So Scrappy. Please take a minute or more likely an hour to check out what everyone else is doing in this new month. It’s sure to be fabulous! 

My week, not so much! 

It’s supposed to be dark neutrals~~ nope

Then, I should be finishing a quilt top ~~ nope,! 

Instead, a sort of unplanned project. 

A need to have a smallish project for my retreat. A promise made. Both resulted in a cute little table topper. 

I rummaged through my Christmas fabric. The reds  in most of my fabric were slightly different  than the reds in this collection from Bunny Hill Designs. It’s called “I Believe in Angels”

I settled on this very different but very pretty fabric for the back. And it could qualify for neutral! "wink"

It just need a tiny bit of straightening. And a chunk of batting was found, then just enough of this red and white stripe for binding.

Today, I hope to be able to move my car out of the garage, put an old plastic tablecloth down and spray baste. Then I can get to the quilting. I’ve made it my November OMG. We will be leaving home for the holidays,  so finishing anything bigger is not going to happen. If I can get the quilting accomplished and the binding attached to the front. I can sew the binding down in the car on our way to our son's for Thanksgiving. And I can post a finished OMG!!

Then:

At retreat, I had a lesson from a very able teacher on making socks using the Magic Loop method. I need to put her number in my phone….so I call if I need help! I have a video to watch too. We were tasked with having six inches done by Thursday the 10 th and I can’t remember which needle becomes my right hand needle! Duh!

Scrap Happy Saturday. October Trick or Treat Day.

In our town anyway.  It's Treat Street Day. A place where non retail merchants, like realtors, construction companies etc, along with civic and service organizations, set up booths all in one large indoor space. The kids can go trick or treating in safe environment. Also, the downtown shops are open in the afternoon for the little bitty ones to come in for candy! Here is a photo of two of my great-grandkids two  three years ago, before Covid! (where did the time go!! )

Not much sewing this week. Lots of cutting though and planning.  And I did make treat bags for Jojo and Miss B. 

You are all tired of seeing my Boo Crew cross stitch finish. But some of you only see my Saturday posts. So here it is again.

ScrapHappy Saturday ~ The End is Near!

I'm linking up with Angela at ScrapHappy Saturday.  Even though I was a slacker this week. 

Not a smidgen of green was sewn this week. In fact, unless you count the green apples in this stitch ⤵️

or the green mitten cuffs  in this one, there was no green. ⤴️

My zig zag rows are put away into a box. I may take them to a retreat next week. There should be a place to lay them all out, and plenty of opinions as to how they should be arranged! *smile*

My main focus has been on getting my Halloween stitch done and trying to sew some on the QOV Mystery at Alicia Quilts. 

60 Blue and White geese are done, some White and Red geese are next! 

Oh look, there was some green in my Leader and Ender, Triple Treat blocks.

ScrapHappy Saturday! A tad more green

It's Saturday!! And it's windy in Wyoming!  Fall is in the air and that means Rainbow Scrap Challenge is coming to a close. A time to finish up the light/bright greens and think about final constructions. I'm linking up with Angela at So Scrappy to share my greens and my other projects. All my ZigZag rows are in a box, ready to be laid out on the floor to get the color layout just right. Then I'll sew them together, find a backing and get it quilted. I have a place for this one, so it shouldn't languish in the UFO pile!

Last week I showed my design board with green squares and light and gray rectangles. This week they became 4- 12.5” blocks for CiL. That's all the gray I could find in my cavern of scraps. 

Even my light neutral scraps are getting low. I cut into some  fat quarters for a few of these. If you are interested in how these blocks could be arranged, check here. Andy of A Bright Corner calls them Scrap Bin  Geese. Her tutorial called for grays on the left ot right, bit Kat from Kat and Cat Quilts, specifically wanted grays all on the same, right hand side. 

Other than putting a label n Baby Pop Star, my weekend will be spent cutting more goose parts for Alicia’s Mystery QOV. Only 170 to go!  Did you catch that! The special little pumpkin, due the end of October, came early! So now I have her pertinent information and a label is in order.

Last week’s list

1. Keep working on the flying geese for Alicia’s QOV Mystery✅

I worked on them, but I’m falling so far behind! 25 geese, only 15 trimmed. I need 60 of this color combo! *sad face*

2. Sew some bright green for Rainbow Scrap Challenge. ✅

3.  Maybe, just maybe finish stitching Boo Crew! ✅

The stitching is complete. 

Next week - 10-11 to 10-17:

1. Get Boo Crew mounted on display board!,

2. Finish 3 more CiL blocks and mail to Kat! 

3. Cut QOV geese parts! More blue with white sky, then white with red sky, and then 72 red with white sky! I hope I’m getting better at making flying geese, but I’m not convinced !

Bright green October’s 2nd Saturday

Happy blocks, HST and some 2 1/2” squares! 

 The light/bright green zigzag row is ready! Now it’s time to lay it out and get it together! Should I do it ROYGBIV?  If I do, then where does aqua and the pink go and there are 2 greens……I’ll get it figured out! 

And there are 4 happy blocks to add to the collection. Did you notice the green parallelogram?  HST cut too small! (Head slap)

And I hoped to get to this stack of squares and rectangles this weekend!  

I was going to make that happen today, but Mr Busy needs to drive to Rapid City SD to buy some supplies for the airplane he is re-building. He offered me a stop at one of the quilt shops as a bribe. But I need nothing, so we will go, maybe take a drive through Spearfish Canyon to see the fall colors also! Who turns down a drive through the Black Hills of South Dakota?

Rainbow Scrap Challenge. 22. - October 1. POP STAR BABY!

I'm linking up with Angela at RSC22.  Angela's blog is live and they are reasonably well.  Without power and spotty cell service, I hope she can check back in on those of us who were or are unaffected by the fury of the hurricane. 

First let me say I hope all of you who endured Ian or are enduring  its aftermath are mostly fine. We have extended family in Florida and most have reported that though without power and water they are doing pretty well! I learned years ago, that when worry or grief overtakes you, that sometimes immersing yourself in fabric helps. I’m too far away to help, so I’ll just sew.



I finally have a real finish! This little baby quilt came back from the quilter and the binding is done! I will wait to put a label on until I know this sweet girl’s name, and exact birthday. Some time near the end of October!

And there is some bright green in this one. This POP STAR by Sandra Walker. I selected the fabrics from my stash, it's a bit unorthodox. Yellow, green and pink. But the baby it is intended for is a girl. And the nursery is done in greens. 

Now to cut more light greens for my RSC blocks and continue sewing RWB for the QOV Mystery.

September Table Scraps Challenge….Do pumpkins come in blue?

My Table Scraps Challenge project was a thinking project for awhile.  I thought about Blue Pumpkins and kept thinking of Cheree's of The Morning Latte. Her recent quilt, Once in a Blue Pumpkin is spectacular. But this is a table scraps project and not an entire quilt. 

I searched pumpkins on the internet and there are lots of ideas. 'Tis the season, you know. 

I finally settled on this idea from Lori Kennedy Quilt.  Now her cute little orange pumpkins are adorable. I needed a blue pumpkin!

Mine involved some light blue 4" squares, some crumbs cut to 4" squares for the bottom, some flax seed for weight, some fiberfill, some blue perle cotton , some doll making needles , a scrap of green wool and a piece of a willow branch from our yard. 

I "free motion" stitched some leaf shapes onto the green wool then trimmed the shapes. Not nearly as pretty as Lori Kennedy's but OK from a distance. I tacked the leaves down and hot glued the little branch piece to the center of the “blue-pumpkin”.  I didn’t think it looked finished, so some twine finished it up!

There you have it! Blue scraps, a scrape of green wool, a scrap of a willow twig and a scrap of twine! 

All from my cupboards except for the twig, which was in the yard!

Some blue …mostly fall!

My sky this morning isn’t as pretty as Angela’s, but it is not smoky this morning! I’m linking up with ScrapHappy Saturday and all the other RSC22 participants!

I’m still sewing out of the gray tote.

Mostly darks and fall colors, but if you look closely, there is some blue! 

And there are a few blue crumb blocks “under construction” in honor of this month’s color. The other bits, discovered in the donation scraps tote, are in the “crumb-blocks-to-be” bins!,
