It’s ScrapHappy Saturday June 20th.

 

It’s been nearly 2 weeks since I posted anything. I feel bad. People have been checking up on me. I am fine, just busy!  Super busy!

Being  a new pet parent is harder and takes more time than we both anticipated. 

She looks cute, but she’s in trouble A LOT!

She chewed  the cord on my floor lamp in half. We covered it with cord protection, and she removed it!😳

We also have a bathroom remodeled in progress. Before:

Day one:

I decided not to do pastel 16 patch stars. I used all hues in the colors so far. So I made light/neutral string blocks. One done, one in progress. (No photo of the in progress one)

In my downtime, I’ve done some stitching. 

“Stitching” is almost done. 

Sweetly Sayin’ 4th of July has begun. I just had to do this one! It’s from Primrose Cottage, also. Can you tell I’m a center starter?

It’s almost the end of the month.

 

And you know what that means. Finishing up! (Or at least trying)

Getting to the sewing room has been difficult. Between cardiac rehab 3x a week for Mr. Busy and other medical appointments, tests, etc. and the daily cooking, laundry, and grocery shopping it seems there is no time. 

I was able to get the side borders on my string quilt. The pieces are cut and sewed to each other to make the top and bottom. Mr. Busy helped me measure it on Monday, but that is as far as I got. Maybe tomorrow. 

Seems like both our hobbies end up in the family room. There is one of Mr Busy’s airplanes!

I was also able to work on the Table Scraps Challenge. It was mostly hand work that could be done in the evenings as we sat together. 

No potato chip blocks were made. I wanted to lay them out on the floor for a photo to see what colors might need more blocks . Just before I was ready to get a photo of the potato chip blocks, I went into the laundry room to check on the rugs from the bathrooms. There was water seeping out from under the dryer. We have a sump pump down there and periodically tree roots grow in the pump tub and keep the water from being pumped out. So a halt was put on every other project while we attended to that.

Just now, as the laundry room has been recovered I took time to lay out the potato chip blocks. 

Looks like I need at least one more orange one. And maybe hold off on the brown because this will be narrow and tall. The blocks are 9” finished so that makes it 45’across and 72 “ long without the brown. Maybe a different arrangement or only lengthwise sashings. It will require more thought. I will make one more orange block.

Friday 10/3/25

 

I’ll link to Finished or Not Friday because it helps ME keep track.  You can go check to see what other more productive quilters have been working on and have completed. 

Sadly this is the state of my string blocks. They are sewn together, but that is all. 

The small cream border is cut to size, but still waiting to be attached. Why? Because the light green, from September, is still under my needle. 

Our quilt show is this weekend and I hope to visit a vender and find the perfect border fabric. I’m not sure what I’m looking for. The string blocks are dark and busy. Hopefully I’ll find something.

 Sharing some good things with others at Not Afraid of Color

I shared this with my book club, but if you substitute “too much fabric” for “too many books” this works for us quilters and makers, also!

I’m not sewing much but are getting the boos is sewn into rows on this one. I’ll show my progress on Friday. 

I am listening to an audible selection, while I’m doing hand stitching, and while I’m doing my morning walk. Have you read this one? It’s one of the summer reads for my book club. I recommend it highly.

do you like amusement parks? which one is your favorite? Do you like rides or shows better?

 Mr Busy and I took a “just us” trip to Elitchs Gardens in Denver in the summer of 1969. He likes amusement/carnival rides. I hate them. We rode the roller coaster. I didn’t like it, but I like him so I did it. The only other exposures to carnival rides and such were local county fairs in South Dakota and a state fair in Arizona when our great grandchildren were preteens. Those were traveling Ferris Wheels, Tilt-a-Whirl, and carousels. We did visit Spokane Washington on a motorcycle vacation to Glacier National Park and beyond, and rode a large beautiful carousel there. It was wonderful.

August 28th is a special day to me. It was my mother’s birthday. She would have been 103 today. She almost made her 90th birthday. I miss her a lot.

Time flies ***

 How can it be Friday already. 

I completely missed I LIKE Thursday, yesterday. Mr Busy had a doctor appointment early, there was a grocery pickup, my stitching group met and went out to lunch together. 

So I’ll answer LeeAnna’s conversation starter. Do I like Dairy Queen.?  We have a local DQ, and stop every now and again. The treats are kinda expensive in calories. Mr Busy always orders a Peanut Buster Parfait. I will get a a Blizzard. My favorite is Cookie Dough, but I’ll eat any flavor except cherry. LOL. 

Some good thingthis week. I have 7 tomatoes on the 1 plant that made it into the ground. 

Now if we can just have enough warm weather for them to ripen. Our earliest freeze has been September 21st. But a few places in our state, south and west of us had freezing nighttime temps last week. The Farmers Almanac is predicting, earlier cold, colder temperatures, more snow and a longer Winter. YUCK!

I made baked banana oatmeal this morning. It was a new one for me. Both of us thought it was really good.

ScrapHappy Saturday! 7-15-23

Not much red sewing this week!I did dig through the red scraps and the neutral scraps to make some very scrappy strip sets. These are waiting for neutral corner of 2 “ squares. Pinned in place, but not sewn or trimmed! I ordered a special ruler with the last of my birthday money! 🙂 Yes I could do them the old fashioned way, but I wanted to try Bonnie’s suggestion. It should be here Monday. 

Also my Rainbow UFO spreadsheet selected One Color string blocks 

These I did last week. So no more progress on that one.

And. Borders on my Spool quilt. 

Pieces and parts trying to find the perfect layout. It’s a bit intimidating. But I keep telling myself, that I’ve done two borders so I can surely do two more! I’m using an Edyta Sitar - Laundry Basket Quilts pattern from this book pictured. It’s called Friendship Strips and Scraps. 

In my defense, several one whole day and a couple of evenings were spent getting the binding done on this:

Happy July!!! Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color is RED!

I honestly did read Angela's post last Saturday. Somehow I did not comprehend what I read and completely missed her saying the color for July would be Red.  Not till I read The Joyful Quilters post for the June ABC Table Scraps Challenge did it register.   Can you say, "SENIOR MOMENT!"?

I have just the perfect idea for the Table Scraps project. I'll keep you posted. For now this is all you get!

And yes there will be enough red!

My color coordinated UFO projects for Red are. 

1. Finish the borders for my Spool Quilt.  

2. Make enough single color string blocks for a quilt.

April’s Last ScrapHappy Saturday! Purple Crumbs and Purple Strings!

As I sewed my Rainbow Neighborhood houses, I made crumb blocks as Leaders and Enders. I promised Cathy K that I would make at least one purple string block! Well, as long as there is a mess in the sewing room and the string bags are handy, I might as well make more than just one!

Seven crumb blocks that are trimmed to 6 1/2” square. And 6 string blocks that are trimmed to 7 1/2” square because that’s the size all the rest I make are and the phone book pages are cut to that size.

That plus a 5th and secret 6th house block are what happened this week. My purple basket is a bit lighter, but not empty! Sigh!

So Scrappy and ScrapHappy Saturday!

This week I worked on my pink scrap bag. I pulled some strings and made these blocks 

and then I  made some crumb blocks using a method called Mile a Minute from Patchwork Posse

and just adding a strip to bring each one up to 7 “ so , I could trim to 6.5”! 

And yet, my scrap basket is still full to the top! How can that be?

Not pretty, I really don’t like the pinks that are almost brown. Rose, mauve ?  What color are they? Anyway, I’m determined to use them up!

To Do Tuesday! Mid September!

And if you read Linda's post this morning, you will already know that I was a winner during her stop on the Get On Board Blog Hop.  My package arrived yesterday. Such fun packaging. At the top of the box was  a sweet note

and a decorated bag, for packaging. I didn't get a photo, is was snatched up by our daughter and immediately became inspiration for her  Soul Collage  cards.

The charm pack and the pins in a pretty gift bag. 

Then I had to slip the charms out of their packaging and pet them a bit!  Such cute prints and soft colors.

Now on to business!!

Last week I had 5 things on my list!  And guess what?  I did NOT get all of them done!  

Last week.  9-12  to  9-19

✅ 1. Make as many string blocks as possible: the end of the month is in sight!  I need at least 48.

There are 37 here.  If you are following my  OMG Progress post, you probably noticed that I got a bit ahead of myself.  I had 19 string blocks completed before this batch. But only 4 of them were string blocks with a cream center diagonal. So now I have 41 blocks toward this particular quilt. I need 48 for a 6X8 setting and would kind of like to have 7 X 9, so need 63 to make that happen. I'm not sure I have enough of the cream fabric. I have cut it all, so I will make blocks til I run out of that. 

✅ 2. Actually start on a Table Scraps project. 

This is all you get to see.......it's started!

✅ 3. Keep stitching Boo Crew!

Last week I was working on the second O (the witch's caldron). Now the C is done and the R is outlined!

✅ 4. Get binding ready for PopStar.....the quilter will take it , Thursday, the 22nd. 

It's ready and Marva will take the baby quilt this Thursday and get it quilted for me. 

 X  5.  Begin cutting fabric for Alycia's QOV Mystery.    Does getting the fabric to the cutting table and measuring the piece of white from your stash count???  Not really!  

I did not have the companion angle ruler and decided this was a good excuse to add it to my supplies!

Next week.  9-20 - 9-27

1. Keep on trying to get that tub empty!!!

2.  Cut the fabric for the QOV Mystery

3. Keep stitching on Boo Crew.

4. Start looking at possible patterns for the charm pack I won!!
