OMG for April Finish…

Was a FAIL!

I got the muslin sewn to the sides of the flimsy , but stalled out. Some medical issues and some forgotten purchases of grommets, overnight company, you know just life happened. So it still looks like this

It is NOT hanging in the bathroom like this, we had company so a commercially purchased fabric shower curtain was hung.

I will continue to work for a completion!

And I will post this at Stories from the Sewing Room, to be accountable!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge. April Last Yellow

Linking up with Angela for the last Saturday in April!

I did add two more yellow Zipper blocks to my collection.

All my yellow contributions:

5 Split 9 Patches and 5 Zipper blocks.  I'm not sure how many I will need of each so there may be more made, when I decide on a layout. Or there might be extras!

Can you find Big Bird's head and those smiley faces that I can't seem to use up!  LOL!

You might wonder why the pink one. It's got tiny little flowers in yellow and I like it!!

The only other yellow in my life this week except for the sunshine, which I am thankful for, was this lovely bouquet of flowers given to me by Mr. Busy after a medical procedure on Tuesday.

Finished or Not Friday!

Some Friday Finishers are regular visitors to my blog. To you, I apologize! Just click back out and visit some other’s.  You seen this already. But to some who only join me at Alycia’s Finished or Not Fridays, read on.

I have been in my sewing room.....lots of smallish starts and finishes.

Some of you may remember the crumb project I mentioned early in the month.  It ended up being 36 X 24.

I have a fairly new AccuQuilt Go Big cutter. This is what it looks like all closed up.

It has a premade cover that is of a loosely woven white fabric and it fits very tight. I think, every time I try to put it on, that I am going to break a seam open or worse yet stick my finger through the fabric.

So I decided to make a cover for it that would fit it closed or open. Mr Busy and I share two rooms in the basement that were originally bedrooms.  He builds with balsa wood. Lots of sawing and sanding. Lots of sawdust etc. I have a cover for my machine and the cutter needed one too.  The crumb slab ( scraps from my cutting table and some donated wedges from a friend) was backed with a very ugly striped sheet. Quilted with my go-to serpentine stitch, but no batting. It is flimsy but not heavy. Then bound in yellow, of course.

It's got plenty of hang over when the cutter is closed.!

And it covers it completely when it is open. It could have been a bit shorter. But too big is better than not big enough, right?

A peek at the ugly fabric I used for the back!

Little Ducky Duddle, wading in a puddle in the rain will cheer me every time I walk into my sewing room.

It's a pattern from Shabby Fabrics from several years ago. It was meant for wool rug mats, but worked as a regular applique piece too.

It’s a finish that I haven’t shared on FONF (Finished or Not Friday). And it’s the only one lately.
Hopefully the Gift Quilt for my nephew will be back from the quilter soon! If I get binding constructed today, she offered to attach it for me. I’m going to try! It’s warming up in Wyoming! 68 today, but is a bit windy. There is sun though, so that’s a PLUS!

I LIKE THURSDAYS!

Prompt from LeeAnna

Either / Or
Bed And Breakfast or Luxury Hotel?

If I must pick, it would be a luxury hotel! We have done both and had different experiences!  Mr Busy and I are basically shy people. Or maybe better put, private people. I like having our own bathroom, and some bed and breakfast places don’t offer that. We’ve shared a bathroom, like a Jack and Jill bathroom, and it’s doable is your familiar with the people you are sharing with!
But a luxury hotel, if you don’t consider the price, is so so ice. Amenities like special soaps and lotions, a mini fridge, beautiful views, mints on the pillow, towel animals, fresh flowers. That’s all really nice and who doesn’t need to be pampered once in a while?

Other Thoughts This Week!
Food:
I shared a little bit on Slow Sunday Stitching that I was preparing for a procedure on Tuesday last! No food, from bedtime Sunday til supper time Tuesday ! At first it was hard then not too bad. But I kept seeing food commercials on TV, adds on Facebook, even recipes on Blogs! Oy Vey!

Medical:

The Procedure went well, except for the surgeon getting behind schedule and then my appointment was bumped an hour, and then another 30 minutes. But nurses were attentive, helpful, and professional. All went well! Nothing worrisome was found, final recheck with Doc in 10 days! I’m all Good! I’m back to having coffee with a splash of 1/2 and 1/2, toast and fruit for breakfast !

 Miscellaneous:

After we left the hospital on Tuesday afternoon we ordered a chicken and garlic pizza from Papa Murphy’s for supper. Mr Busy suggested we stop at the grocery store for a salad to accompany it. He came back to the car with this beautiful bouquet behind his back and opened the door and gave it to me. I was tickled!💖

Books:
 I finished

It was a wonderful story of life and love and heartbreak and forgiveness with a bit of magic woven in! Each one of Sarah’s books that I have read were magical!

I downloaded a Kindle version of  “The Covenant of Water”.

So far I am enjoying it! Lots of unfamiliar words! It would be fun to listen to the audio book to hear the pronunciation. This language (Malayalam) is hard for me to sound out! Now that I think about it , I think the kindle version may have a pronunciation part to the dictionary! 😄

and the copy of “A Gentleman in Moscow” is ready for pick up at the library. I’ll get it when I go to Thursday Stitchers today.

The next read for Page Turners, my F2F Book Club!

Guess that is about all! The quilt for my nephew goes to the quilter today! So it should be back in time for me to get the binding on.

Slow Stitching Today and Tomorrow!

I have three ongoing stitching projects.

First is the Temperature Heart chart from Fat Quarter Shop last year. I didn’t do it in 2023, but started it at the beginning of 2024.  It’s stitched on 14 ct Aida in Peaceful Purple.  This is complete through April 13th.

I’m also working on this Winter Stitch from Stitchonomy! I’m using called for colors on 14 count fabric purchased from Stitchonomy. I can’t remember the color, but is a really pretty teal. I’ll try to research the color. I also purchased the pretty sparkly snowflake needle minder!  I intend to work on this all this week. Monday I have a stay at home day, on a clear liquid diet and additional prep fluids. Tuesday will be a “procedure ” and a day of rest.

This is the panel called Woven Wreaths from Kathy Schmitz. The individual motifs are meant to be stitch per month. Kathy has a video on YouTube the 1st of every month highlighting any specialty stitches and just giving tips and encouraging you!

A closer look. I’ve done the January Snowman, the February Valentine, the March Queen Bee and this week, the April Bunny! I’m enjoying the little slow stitch.

You Have Probably Seen This Before!

So just scroll on past!

I have been in my sewing room, but only bits and starts. I finally got the backing constructed for the quilt for my nephew.  There was a measuring error and a resulting math error. That’s why the 3” addition on the one side. And it’s yellow! My quilters need the backing to be 8” bigger than the top!

The top has some yellow too.

I’m still press the back on this one. And trimming threads. Is it just me, or is fabric more prone to threadiness these days?

I have some yellow pieces cut for more zipper blocks. So next week!

Something Not Finished and a small FFO. ( Fully Finished Object)

I have been in my sewing room, but only bits and starts. I finally got the backing constructed for the quilt for my nephew.  There was a measuring error and a resulting math error. That’s why the 3” addition on the one side. My quilters need the backing to be 8” bigger than the top!

Now I need to run a row of stay stitching and press the back of the front. Then find a batting! J oann’s is sold out and closing the end of this week. Boo Hoo! 😢 I need to call my quilter and see what her schedule is, and if she happens to have a package of double size batting.

This is my Not Finished.  I'd like to have this done and deliverable by early June.

Also, in the evenings I have been doing some counted cross stitch. This was a piece from a chart from the Colorado Cross Stitcher in Loveland. It was part of The Twelve Days of Christmas box that I purchased last fall. It's done on a small piece of 28 count ivory cashel linen that was in my stash stitched 2 over 2.  I finished it by attaching it to a piece of green florists foam that Mr Busy cut to size for me. It has a piece of fabric wrapped from the back to cover the edges of the linen and then a brown grosgrain ribbon wrapped around the edge to cover where the linen and the fabric overlap. All pinned to the foam with sequin or appliqué pins. The bow is a bit limp but is was premade and I'm not sure how to stiffen it. Maybe some starch and a curling iron! :)

This is a small Finish but it took me longer than it should have. I had to relearn how to stitch two threads over two. I am pleased with it.

I LIKE Thursday 4-18-24

I
LIKE Thursday!

It’s been a slow uneventful week. There were naps!  There was Breakfast for Supper. I don’t have photos, but it was Biscuits and Gravy, bacon and scrambled eggs. One day we made, fried chicken tenders, garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli florets with nacho cheese. There was leftovers or “planned overs” as my sister used to say. I’m a big fan of Cook Once, Eat Twice!

I finished my book club read. Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah! Probably 4/5 ⭐️

And started this one :

I am a Sarah Addison Allen fan. I am loving this one so far.

Mr Busy has been busy too!

He’s building a boat. No pattern, just a photo!

I finished making the backing for a quilt for my nephew. It’s pieced! I needed to be 86 1/2” X 86 1/2”. There was  math error! I needed 3 more inches on one side! For Pete’s Sake! I’m hoping my quilter will use the opposite side to attach to the frame. Then I will probably get most of the yellow back! I just about don’t have enough floor space to lay this large backing out. It really is not wonky. I couldn’t get to the right side, it’s right up against the entertainment center, to straighten it.

The top is done too!

I finally finished this stitch!

This is a view from the end. The stitching is wrapped around a block of florists foam and pinned with sequin pins! Then fabric is wrapped around the back and pinned and ribbon covers the “seam” where the linen and fabric meet! Easy peasy!

Midweek and Mid Month Table Scraps for April!

Or Bit Past Mid Month

I have been in my sewing room.....lots of smallish starts and finishes.

a peek at the ugly sheet fabric on the back.

And a closer look at the square on the front. It's a Yellow Duck walking in the April Rain with a green and Yellow Umbrella.

It's a pattern from Shabby Fabrics from several years ago. It was meant for wool rug mats, but worked as a regular applique piece too.

So I am entering this as my challenge piece for April Yellow Table Scraps Challenge with an Umbrella!!    I will link up with The Joyful Quilter on the 26th of the month when Joy posts her link up party.

I should probably try to make a few more zipper blocks for April’s 🌼🌼 RSC color, before the month is over.  I have a large quilt to get to the quilter. There will be a post about that on Friday.
