Slow Sunday Stitching- Christmas Countdown

As I sit in my favorite chair this morning, I’m trying to look to the future.. The way I can cope is to look forward to Christmas. It’s only 45 Days!!  That feels impossible! 

I completed the November design on my Woven Wreath project from Kathy Schmitz. 

I loved learning the wheatear stitch and the fishbone stitch. I’m excited to finish this project!

I unearthed a Christmas UFO that needed to be finished. Hometown Christmas by Sweetwater. 

I loved the black and white border, but could not justify spending money on new fabric, when I had lots and lots of Christmas fabric. Consequently, my fabric didn’t have a lot of black! 

  

I pulled possible border fabric from my stash! Nothing made me happy!  So off to my favorite local fabric store. The owner and quilter extraordinaire, Nicki, suggested these two options ⤵️

I chose the red and black Buffalo check. 

And I started yet another slow stitch. I had this kit and 2 others from Rachel’s of Greenfield in my stash with the intent of Christmas tree ornaments for my Grands and Great Grands. I have more than 6! 

I’m barely started this morning. I started with the Gingerbread Man and have the pieces cut for the Star Snow person and the Santa Face.

Slow Sunday Stitching

 On Saturday my post stated that I was going to share that post here. My slow stitching would be my burying of a multitude of threads. Well, I mentioned to my husband in passing that I would need his help hanging up that wall hanging. I had already attached the triangles in the corners and was looking for the right length dowel. Well, up he jumped and immediately found a proper hanger and hammer and wanted to know where I wanted it to be. 

So it is hanging up threads and all. I’ll take it down during football today and get those threads buried. LOL! 

I thought I would share my Thanksgiving dough bowl arrangement. The design is from Melisa at Pinker n Punkin Quilting. I didn’t realize until I was putting the chart away in my notebook, that my T was slightly wrong. I’m not going to stress about it. It’s fully finished and …. I’m not going to stress about it. 

Today I’ll work on Woven Wreaths cornucopia. I watched the video and I am anxiously to try the new wheatear stitch and practice the fly stitch again. This project has been so much fun. A true slow stitch. I have a couple of friends who have jumped ahead. They couldn’t relax and enjoy!

Slow Sunday Stitching

I did get a chance to watch Kathy Schmitz’s video on the stitches for the October Pumpkin on Woven Wreaths. And I finished the stitching of the pumpkin. Isn’t he cute?

I had hoped to get stitches in the wool pumpkin house but I didn’t. I ended up at the dentist twice this week! 

Then an email arrived asking for donations of any and child sized quilts to send to Hurricane Helene relief. They do not have to be quilted but would appreciate binding strips included. I have one finished kid quilt and one that is just a top. So I measured and cut binding strips and got them joined together. I’ll take them to the drop off point on Monday! I also made some light crumb blocks in preparation for my Table Scraps Challenge.

And I finished this THANKSGIVING stitch into a long pillow. Well, not real long. I think it’s around 11 inches.

The chart is a free one from Melisa at Pinker n Punkin Quilting and Stitching. I’m still contemplating an embellishment of some kind. A bow, or button or something! I’ll know when I see it!

My plans for the upcoming week are still to work on the pumpkin house.

Slow Sunday Stitching. October’24

 

 This week i hope to find time to watch the video of the October motif from Kathy Schmitz’s Woven Wreath.

Today, I will be at our local quilt show for awhile. Both to see which quilt won ribbons and to pick up my entries. I will spend time this evening during SNF to put some more stitches in my pumpkin house.

The flower is still loose from the main pumpkin. It’s 4 layers of wool thick, so I will do the embellishments before I permanently attach it to the pumpkin. The windows need panes. The hat needs specialty stitches and beads. So lots of slow stitching!

Slow Sunday Stitching! 8-11-24

I’m joining with friends at  Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching today. Not a lot of stitching progress here. But it’s not so much the destination as the journey for me. Don’t get me wrong, I get excited to finish a stitchery, but the fun is in the doing!

I started on the Woven Wreath’s  Sun for August, last week, but did not finish. I attended a 3 day Sew-In or Mini Retreat. Meet and sew and visit and share for 3 days in a row. But sleep in your own bed at home. It’s very popular! I did some block construction. 

Not quite 1/2 way with the Sun, but getting there. Stitched Saturday night while watching a new Apple+ movie. The Instigators with Matt Damon, Casey Affleck. Several other faces and names you will recognize, Hong Chau, Ving Rhames, Paul Michael Hauber and Ron Perlman to name a few. But sadly, no recommendation from either of us! 

I was disappointed. I like these guys and wish I would have liked the movie!

Today I will continue the Sun. There are lots of stitches necessary in this small design. Very cute though, isn’t it? 

Hopefully I’ll get some stitches in the Temperatures Heart. I’m woefully behind on this one.

I finished Spring String

I can’t decide if I like the Bunny, or the Nest better. Whichever one I’m in love with this stitch. Now to Fully Finish! It’s long and skinny, so I need to find a place for it. 

And I finished the July bird on Woven Wreaths.

This was a fun , fairly fast stitch. 

My plan for this week is a new start. 

Fall is my favorite time of year. And I love the colors used in Autumn Bell Pull I from Stoney Creek! Lots of brown and gold and copper! Yum! Another long skinny project but vertical! :)

Slow Sunday Stitching

 

Still stitching on the same things. I think I have a plan. The first week of the month I’ll work on the Woven Wreaths SAL

June is done . Here is the whole project so far!

The designs are printed and begging for thread enhancement! Next is July, the bird next to the watering can. 

The second week, I’ll concentrate on the Spring String from Lizzie Kate! And the Temperature Heart!

A through Q

The 3rd week?  Nothing is on my planner! A new “start”?  A “fully finish”?   We will see!

The last week of the month because it includes the 25th, I’ll work mostly on the Winter SAL and catch up on the Temperature Heart!

ScrapHappy Saturday

 

Just trying to rev up my blues. I have a light blue scrap bucket and a dark blue scrap bucket. So finding blue shouldn’t be a problem. I sewed 3 split nine blocks, cut pieces for 1 more and also for some zipper blocks. I’m mixing dark and light in my blocks.

I started stitching the June design on Woven Wreaths. I like this watering can with baby’s breath in it. The little bee is a tiny stitch. But Kathy has some great tips in her YouTube tutorial for completing the bee. I’ll get him done today, or finish him tomorrow while watching CBS Sunday Morning. I want to look at the tutorial one more time before doing the bee.

I caught whatever it was that Mr. Busy had last week. I call it a summer cold. Headache, runny nose, some aches and pains that are relieved by Tylenol. And a scratchy throat that feels better when I drink my Hot Spiced Tea. I used to call it Russian Tea, but now it’s just Spiced Tea. 🫖 So not much was accomplished, but I got several naps! 💤

I don’t add sugar at all. I like the pucker of the lemonade flavor. When this recipe was given to me you could buy Wyler’s Lemonade in packets like KoolAid. Now I buy a canister of CountryTime Lemonade and a canister of Tang and just make a batch at a time.

Slow Sunday Stitching ~ Mother’s Day 2024

Celebrating my 59th Mother’s Day. Today I will, sew, stitch, watch a movie. No plans to cook, though Mr Busy may grill some burgers. Next weekend family will be here, then I will cook, and eat, and hug on my daughter, grandkids and a couple of littles! 

I stitched on my Woven Wreath May design on Thursday stitch group. I’ve got a few more sprigs and the teacup and saucer left.  

 I’ll probably catch up on the temperature cross stitch and maybe, put some stitches in a Lizzie Kate Spring String! 

 The Temperature stitch is done through last Sunday. The Spring String is on some 18 ct Aida I had in my stash. It was ivory, I boiled it in some coffee and a tea that had orange rinds and some kind of reddish flowers in it. It was getting old, so used it up! I didn’t buy new floss. If I had the color indicated on the chart I used it, if I didn’t I chose a close color by looking at the picture .   

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers everywhere, especially in the US this day! Whether you bore children, or adopted children, or fostered, or helped raise someone else’s child. You are appreciated! If you have fur babies, and nieces or nephews, or classrooms full of other people’s kids, I applaud you. It takes all of us! It takes a village!

Slow Stitching Today and Tomorrow!

I have three ongoing stitching projects. 

First is the Temperature Heart chart from Fat Quarter Shop last year. I didn’t do it in 2023, but started it at the beginning of 2024.  It’s stitched on 14 ct Aida in Peaceful Purple.  This is complete through April 13th. 

I’m also working on this Winter Stitch from Stitchonomy! I’m using called for colors on 14 count fabric purchased from Stitchonomy. I can’t remember the color, but is a really pretty teal. I’ll try to research the color. I also purchased the pretty sparkly snowflake needle minder!  I intend to work on this all this week. Monday I have a stay at home day, on a clear liquid diet and additional prep fluids. Tuesday will be a “procedure ” and a day of rest. 

This is the panel called Woven Wreaths from Kathy Schmitz. The individual motifs are meant to be stitch per month. Kathy has a video on YouTube the 1st of every month highlighting any specialty stitches and just giving tips and encouraging you! 

A closer look. I’ve done the January Snowman, the February Valentine, the March Queen Bee and this week, the April Bunny! I’m enjoying the little slow stitch.
