A Snowy Cold Wet week!

 I dug out a Fall flavored UFO from Fall of 2023! Determined to finish for Fall 2024. Technically it is still Fall!

This kit was a gift from a friend. I love the colors and most of the fabric. The pattern cover photo showed a plaid pumpkin but no plaid fabric was included! Now, I love plaid! So I went to see if I could find a coordinating plaid in my stash. And I did! Lower left pumpkin!

Then came pumpkin carving with some littles down the street! 

And a quick finish for Table Scraps Challenge. Lights and Cats! So kitty coasters!

And then it snowed. Heavy wet , tree breaking snow. Good days to stay in and sew. 

And  sew I did! I had to put a piece on the bottom of the backing. Either the directions were wrong, or I mis read them, or I just screwed up.! Either way, it’s pieced. But it will be my label! Happy Accident !

Just this morning, Saturday,I put the last 12 “ of stitches in the binding. It is D-O-N-E, done! 

Just so you know, the background was a poor choice. That’s a brown four patch quilt on our guest bed. That room has the best light this morning. It’s is COLD 🥶 and windy outside!

I LIKE Thursday

 Last weekend was the Annual N.E.Wyoming Quilt Show! There were 388 quilts on display. There are ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place  through People’s Choice voting! There are also sponsor awards. 

My friend Aggie made this QOV quilt. She found the Marines medallion on line. Her son was in the Marines and works with a Marine support group in our state. She makes lots of RW&B quilts, both for QOV and for that support group. This one won best Patriotic Quilt. The pattern is one she saw on Pinterest then “ just figured it out”! 

This one ⤵️ won for best hand embroidered quilt. My friend Marva stitched, pieced and quilted this. It is hard to see, because it has such soft colors. It’s the Gardener’s Alphabet from Crabapple Hill. The kit and all the floss was a gift from her husband several Christmases ago.

This is an embroidery entry and when you scan it with your phone, it takes you to a music video. Not sure if it will work from this photo, my angle might be off a bit. But it worked in real life! 

I was photo bombed by some guy, but  this pixel quilt is best viewed from a distance. The maker is a 15 year old boy. His mom helped him draft the design. 

Fall is officially here. Download is decorated to the max! Pots like this on every corner,

do you like hayrides? When I was a teenager,  I liked them. Now I couldn’t crawl up into the hay wagon. But the idea appeals to me. Warm nights, stars in abundance maybe even a Harvest Moon. 

tell us about one you experienced:   I maybe shouldn’t admit this. But I got my first kiss from a boy,  on a hayride with my MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship) group.

I cannot remember his name but he was a year older than me! I was 16. 

This week, two dentist appointments ! Not a likable thing, but necessary. I’d never experienced the ultrasonic cleaner. I felt like I was being “ waterboarded” 😁 The hygienist said it was the first time she’d been accused of that! 😳 I survived to tell the tale!

Slow Sunday Stitching. October’24

 

 This week i hope to find time to watch the video of the October motif from Kathy Schmitz’s Woven Wreath.

Today, I will be at our local quilt show for awhile. Both to see which quilt won ribbons and to pick up my entries. I will spend time this evening during SNF to put some more stitches in my pumpkin house.

The flower is still loose from the main pumpkin. It’s 4 layers of wool thick, so I will do the embellishments before I permanently attach it to the pumpkin. The windows need panes. The hat needs specialty stitches and beads. So lots of slow stitching!

ScrapHappy Saturday

 

  This week it is feeling like fall. Cool in the mornings, but warm to almost hot by mid afternoon. It’s the kind of day that you take a jacket to work and leave it on the hook behind the door when you go home at quitting time. I used to do that all the time! LOL! 

I sewed darks, mostly browns this week.

And three zipper blocks. Who knew seashells would be in the brown category!

Also some fabric auditioning for some secret sewing!

I just had to share the creation of my friend Donnette. It’s wool appliqué, a Sue Spargo pattern. The background is black wool, except for the white and black clamshells and rectangles. She will bind it and enter it into our quilt show in early October. I think it’s just gorgeous!

And then, I mentioned it feels like fall. I’m thinking Thanksgiving!!  Here is our neighborhood wild Turkey on top of a car parked in the neighboring yard. What a silly bird!
