December Table Scraps

I had a plan!

We are away from home, away from a sewing machine. I thought these mug rugs would be fun to do and have ready for  Spring!

I did not do them from wool or felt. These are regular scraps of quilting cotton on some black duck that has resided in my stash for a long time!

I watched the video at Shabby Fabrics and downloaded the free layout diagram. I chose the fabric scraps and fused them to the black circles. Next came embellishments. A whip stitch, a chain stitch, some French knots in the center of the echinacea flower. I actually use colonial knots, they are easier for me and don’t seem to “lean over”

And now they are complete. I’ll link this post December Table Scraps Challenge post at The Joyful Quilter.

I like them with the orange coffee mug!

These were fun! I don’t know why they were UFOS for so long! I will do another set soon!

I LIKE Thursday #76

I’m joining LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color and some other blogging friends to share some likes and good stuff!, LeeAnna keeps a list of participants on her post so you cam check out some others.

ENTERTAINMENT :

We did “start” a new puzzle. Although you can’t really tell, all the edges are smudged. More like a painting than a photograph. It’s been a tough one. It’s cute though, right?

At least they provided a picture and not just the box cover!

We have watched: 8-Bit Christmas “  with Neil Patrick Harris. A modern take on The Christmas Story

We’ve nearly finished Outlander  all 4 seasons.

We watched Swan Song with Mahershala Ali and Naomi Harris.

A bazillion YouTube woodworking videos!

WORDS:

Of course more snow pictures! The snow falling off the big yew bush near the deck!

The sun came out Christmas Day!,

This was the sunrise, Christmas morning!

FOOD:

We purchased a ham for Christmas dinner. That is another thing our single son doesn’t cook for himself. Too much. So we’ve done, baked ham, ham and cheese sliders, ham and scalloped potatoes, and there is crockpot ham and bean soup on the menu for tonight! We’ve done steamed broccoli, lots of green salads, and very little takeout this time.

We’ve had pumpkin pie, apple pie with ice cream and warm salted caramel sauce.

We are thinking of planning to go home, but Mr Busy hurt his knee somehow. So probably we will be here another 10 days while it heals. Lots of rest, ice, heat and some Motrin. It is improving..

I’ll be away for the next few Thursdays. I won’t have an I LIKE post, but I’ll check in with the rest of you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

To-Do Tuesday #71

Welcome list makers!  Are you thinking about New Year's Resolutions?  I'm not!  I'll just continue with To-Do Tuesdays and keep checking items off the lists.  The only other such thing i was thinking about was a word for 2022.  I happened upon BALANCE in a blog post a few weeks ago and it sort of spoke to me. So if I can put it front and center in my thinking and doing.....I'm going to try for more BALANCE.  Let's look at my list for last week.

Last week Dec 21 - Dec 27
1. Write a progress post for OMG.
Well, I didn't get my OMG to the finish line. I did write a progress post you can find it here.

2. Start on mug rug and write a post! TSC   1/2 done!
You'll have to trust me on this one. I have until January 3rd to post to Table Scraps Challenge...thanks JoyfulQuilter!  Here is a photo of how far I am this morning.

One coaster done! The second one is close. Them I will attach the backing and blanket stitch the edges. I need my magnifying glasses working on black!

3. Keep working on the felt ornaments! No progress!  My focus was on the mug rugs and Mr Busy started a new puzzle and somehow I feel obligated to participate.  "sigh"

We will be here in CA with our son into the new year. Not sure when we will start home. It depends on the weather. It's been snowing a lot here.

And on the route we take to go home. So, when there is a weather window....we will go. I have to be home by Feb 1st. I have a doctor's annual appointment. I could reschedule if necessary, but 60 days is long enough to impose on our son.

Next week. Dec 28-Jan 3

1. Just Keep On Keeping On with the above projects #2 and #3.

2.  Help Mr Busy with the puzzle if he continues.  Its a tough one!

I'm linking this short list with Linda at Texas Quilt Gal. Pop over and see other lists completed!

Stay Busy and Stay Happy and Healthy

And have a happy and prosperous New Year.

NOT A FINISH!! OMG Finish link up

 NO, NADA, NOPE,

My goal was to complete these 6 felt ornaments while we were visiting in California!

I spent too much time visiting and putting a puzzle together and watching movies and not enough time stitching! But they are fun. And I will continue to work on them. They will be my Slow Stitching and be all ready for Christmas 2022!

These are the ones  that were completed!

The deer and the bear….

And the hedgehog not so much!

Still in need of embellishments!

The 3rd stocking and the last 2 mittens just have theirs tan cuffs. No critters yet!

I’m linking up at Elm Street Quilts link-up!

Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal - December Finish Link-up

Ps: I have a new laptop and it’s a bit of a learning curve. I’ll get it though! I have a resident computer professional at my disposal for the next week or two!

I LIKE Thursday #75

Happy Almost Christmas! Happy Winter Solstice.  From now on the days will be getting longer! That’s always a good thing! Check in with other bloggers at LeeAnna's blog, Not Afraid of Color

We finished the puzzle! It was a great conversation builder! Remembering the TV shows, the character names. So much fun! Thank you DD, for the fun gift!

Then we drove to the Klamath National Forest to cut a Christmas tree. The weather was a factor in our thoughts. But as we climbed above the clouds the sky was a fabulous blue. Took my guys about 30 minutes to find a great tree.

I stayed by the vehicle. I don’t have good balance when it comes to tramping through snow covered underbrush. But my view was so beautiful!
These was this tiny bit of green lichen ( I think) just laying on top of the snow.

And single pine/spruce/fir cones here and there.

The snow was not deep, so there was great contrast in the landscape!

The very pretty tree awaiting lights and decorations!

Monday we drove to a neighboring city to do a bit of shopping, check out some Christmas lights and eat some great Mexican food!

Tuesday was a dreary day! As was Wednesday. DS and I made Chicken Enchiladas for dinner. A favorite yummy supper.

Wednesday was my day to start preparing the cranberry salad. It’s a long process if you do it according to my late MIL’s recipe. 'smile'

2 cups of ground fresh cranberries with 1.5 cups of white sugar stirred in. Let set overnight in the fridge.

It's a jello based salad If you want the recipe, send me a message at jdyblr6107 (at) gmail (dot) com.

To-Do Tuesday #70

Good Morning fellow list makers!  Last week’s list was a light one! Some progress was made! I’m joining Linda at Texas Quilt Gal and some friends to share my list!

Last week.   Dec 14th…. Dec 20th.

1. Finish Santa’s boots and the checkerboard background in the right bottom corner. ✅

The boots are complete! All the checkerboard is in place. Starting on the green and red little corner piece. I’m anxious to get started on the back stitching outlines. That really completes it, I think!

2. Finish stitching Bear stocking and start on Hedgehog.✅

All the hedgehog pieces are appliqued, now to embellish!

3. Finish reading The Mistletoe Murders by Laurinda Wallace.
Nope!     My reading time has been limited.

Next week Dec 21 - Dec 27
1. Write a progress post for OMG
2. Start on mug rug and write a post! TSC
3. Keep working on the felt ornaments!

Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday, however you celebrate!

I LIKE Thursday #74

Good Morning! I’m joining friends to share likes and good things this morning!

The very best thing about today is it the 57th anniversary of the day I became a Mom! Our daughter’s birthday! Nine days before Christmas! Our favorite time of year! Happy Birthday! DD!

It’s 10 days before Christmas so we’ve started a puzzle on Tuesday  It was sent to our son’s house from his sister in Florida. Television History. Better photos next week!,

Muffins:  I mixed up a batch of bran muffins. A recipe Mr Busy loves. It makes a huge batch of batter. Keeps nearly indefinitely in the fridge. We’ve had plain bran, a batch with whole fresh cranberries,

And this one yesterday. Six with raisins and six with Jalapeño jelly on top.

I also made a pot roast with potatoes and carrots. A comfort food for our son. Something he never cooks for himself. We had it just out of the crockpot Monday. I made Steve’s Favorite Hash with it Tuesday night, and last night we had beef and cheddar sliders. Can you believe I didn’t get any pictures!

Weather:   I did, however, get snow pictures.

Early Tuesday morning ! Dawn!

Oops the reflection of the dining room chandelier! It was early morning! ⬇️

Then yesterday it snowed all day.

These two photos taken out the window of the guest room at our son’s home! Amazing!⤴️⤵️

It interesting to me that it comes straight down! So unusual in my experience! Wyoming almost always has wind and snow!

I think the snow build up on the deck posts make them look like heavily frosted cupcakes!

Entertainment:

Outlander season 1 & 2

We’ve finished the first season and as of bedtime last night, we had watched 10 episodes of season 2.

I really need to read more about English and Scottish history! I might not have paid close enough attention in high school! Or maybe it been just too many years since I graduated!

Miscellaneous:

Have you ever made a Simmer Pot? My youngest granddaughter loves candles, scented potpourri and simmer pots.

This one is apple, lemon, orange, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, basil and salt!

That’s it for now! I could bore you with more snow pictures, because it’s still beautiful this morning, but I’ll spare you!
