ScrapHappy Saturday ~ Dark or Bright Blue. Last Saturday in January

I finally have some blue sewing to show. And link to RSC 2023 at So Scrappy. Thanks Angela for continuing to host the fun and inspirational Linky party!

First my ABC Table Scraps Challenge. A recycled “gimme” tote,  turned into a personalized useable tote for more projects.  Read about my project Here

I also was able to make 2 string blocks and 3 crumb blocks in dark and bright blue.

It feels really good to be back to my scrappy stash and my sewing machine!

I’ve also been working on my UFOs that were attached to Blue!

January Table Scraps Challenge 2023

Hurray for another year of Table Scraps Challenge! Thank you, thank you, Joyful! For January, The Joyful Quilter gave us the prompt of J, C, R to go with the RSC color of the month,  bright and dark Blue, selected buy Angela at So Scrappy.

Boy, am I glad I bought this book last year!!!

This was my inspiration project.  ↓ I found this brand new canvas tote in the trash in the ladies room of the office where I used to work. It was laying on top and I had no qualms about snatching it up.  It was 2011, way before COVID, way before I worried about that it might "be infected". I brought it home and thought I could cover the Logo with an orphan block. And so it remained in the UFO pile. For 12 years!!!!!!!

I've covered the logo, because I checked and that company is still in business, Not in our small town, but somewhere.  And look ,it's dark or bright blue!!!!    "Light bulb moment"

When Joy posted her letters for this year's Table (ABC) Scraps challenge, she noted them in this order. C,R, and J.  Well, my eyes went directly to the J, of course.

I dug in my scraps basket and found some perfect blue. Combined with Lori Holt's book, there was a start.

The cream and white background piece has been in my stash for longer than the bag!!

I built the letter J , hemmed it with basting stitch to fit the opening on the pocket between the two straps. Then I decided to BIG STITCH it down. That proved to be a task!  I finally had to borrow a needle-nosed pliers from Mr Busy to pull the needle through the double fabric on top of the double canvas at the top of the pocket.

But I like it a lot and know I will use it!.  So I filled the bill, with bright blue, the letter J (for Judy, that's moi) and C ( it's Cobalt blue, isn't it?) and R (it's a Recycled project)!

I'm linking up with ABC Table Scraps Challenge  linky party at The Joyful Quilter.

I LIKE Thursday. - Colors in Your Life.

I'm joining LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color to talk about things we like and also the prompt for this week. It's  COLORS!

Entertainment.

Mr Busy and I are still watching Suits, when we both sit still!  Our DD, DS, and the two of us have one more episode of Andor to watch together. Then we will have to wait for 1923 to come back from “winter break”

I really want to see A Man Called Otto, starring Tom Hanks. It is based on a book titled, A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. It was a great book.

I finished reading this very thought provoking and wonderful story. I highly recommend it!

Nothing wonderful happening in the kitchen lately. I did use some leftover turkey from the freezer to make turkey rice and vegetable soup. DD caught a cold, or RSV or some upper respiratory thing!  The soup was good and she's better now. Not saying the soup did it, but it sure didn't hurt!!!  hahaha!

Prompt from LeeAnna :   she wrote...

"what are your favorite colors? Do you wear them or decorate with them? Is there a specific color your family would say is your favorite? has it changed in the last few years? Is it influenced by the seasons? Did your color favorites change when you moved, for instance I grew to accept earth tones after moving to Colorado. I grew up in Florida and still like saturated colors. I think the quality of sunlight affects how you perceive color. I remember moving from Florida to the Washington DC area and feeling like a displaced peacock. More muted colors were worn in the midatlantic."

My answer:

I like most fall colors in decor. Our living room has sage green walls, cognac brown furniture. Mostly.   My sewing room is pale sage with purple accents. Our master bedroom is a buttery gold with one accent wall in Avocado I have a very colorful quilt on our bed.  We've lived in our house since 1988, it is small and cozy.

I used to wear lots of  golds, greens, browns, rusty reds. But since I’ve gone gray, though most think I’m blonde, I can wear brighter more intense colors. Turquoise, plum, tomato red, charcoal . I still say my favorite color is green. Lime, spring, sage, forest, avocado even army green, and I like aqua and turquoise in the summer.

I truly like all colors. I can’t honestly say that there is one I hate!  But I don't really care for Mauve!  I'm sorta over mauve and country blue!

Blue Assigned UFOS and a bit of bright blue scraps

Well, I’m sewing a bit of blue this week! Here’s a peek!

More info next weekend.

Also, I have started on my UFOS that were assigned the “Blue” designation!
October  Year in the Garden stitchery:

I apologize for the dreary photo! It is dreary and cold here!  No sun all day!

And the Hexagon Table Topper.  I might get this one done if I really “knuckle down”. Fingers crossed.

Row 1, 2 and 3 are stitched together. Need to add rows 4 & 5.  I’ve got 9 days!

I’ll link up with ScrapHappy Saturday!  Late on Sunday evening. In between the last 2 playoff games!

Finished or Not Finished Friday! 1-20-23

Two small finishes today. Although, in retrospect, one finish is epic for me.

My first finish is the Autumn Stamps sampler in counted cross stitch, from Pinker n Punkin Quilting. My friends asked me what I was going to make with it, or how I was going to “finish it”. I have not decided. I’m leaning toward a wall hanging.

My second finished, though small in size, was a huge leap for me. I’ve been wanting to participate in Project Quilting  from Persimmon Dreams, since The Joyful Quilter introduced me to it. Maybe 3 years ago. I always panic when I think, “ a complete project, inception to finish in ONE week!” Yikes, I can’t!  This year, LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color, also encouraged me. This one, Pink Tint just told me what to do!

I’ve linked Pink Ribbon Survivor to the proper page at Persimmon Dreams and will link the Autumn Stamps at Elm Street Quilts, One Monthly Goal, when that Linky party goes live on the 25th.

I LIKE Thursday 1-19-23. LISTS

Linking up with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for I LIKE Thursday!

 Lists on the fridge!

I Like being home. I really enjoyed our time away and time with our son., but I do hate getting there and getting home. Especially traveling by car at this time of year.

We saw beautiful areas,

snow covered mountains but always the threat of icy roads and blowing snow.

I don’t sleep well as a rule, but in a motel it’s worse! So I’m glad to be back in my own bed.

And glad to be back in my sewing space too. And today I’ll stitch with friends at the library. FUN!

We’ve watched 2 more episodes of Andor on Disney+. It’s getting really intense. DD isn’t interested in SUITS, so Mr Busy and I will watch it alone.
We were able to listen to the Playoff games on the way home on Sunday, thanks to Sirius XM in our car. And when I got back home I was able to negotiate a better price for the upcoming year. Our subscription expired 1-20-23. Yay, me!

Wednesday I  opened and filed all the mail, updated the 2023 calendar and hung it on the wall in the kitchen. And I wrote a posted my entry for PQ 14.2.  I’m pretty excited!

Our prompt this week is LISTS! Am I a list keeper?   Yes, yes, yes!

I participate in To-Do Tuesday hosted by Carol at Quilt Schmilt. I make the grocery list on a magnetic pad with pencil on the fridge. Although DS showed me how to make a list and widget on my phone, I’m just old-fashioned enough to prefer the paper and pencil one. The phone list is handy for quick trips to the store, though.
Whenever we go to any store, our last word to each other is, “ Do you have your list?”

I have a “signature journal” ( a different word for notebook, from my bullet journal days) by my chair to note movies and TV programs we have watched. I rate them, sometimes noting the date. Also which season and episode if it’s a series.

This is an old page

I have post-it notes on my desk and cutting table. A small spiral notebook next to my machine where I note when I changed a needle and the size, what stitch I used when appliquéing and if I altered the default.

I have a notebook of quilt blocks I want to try or have tried. I started a quilt journal but failed at keeping info and photos together. I should begin again!
I could go on and on! This old lady can’t remember anything unless I write it down! Somewhere!

Project Quilting 14.2. Pink

Project Quilting season 14.    I'm linking this post at Persimmon Dreams, sponsor of Project Quilting.

I was unable to participate in 14.1. We have been away from home since before Thanksgiving. It’s a 2.5 day car trip home, and during the last leg of our journey( Sunday the 15th) the prompt for 14.2 was announced.  After we got home and unpacked, I put a load of laundry in the washer and Mr. Busy napped  in his recliner. I decided to read some blogs and check out the PQ prompt. It’s Pink Tint.  I went to bed early, I was tired. But I dreamt of pink and ribbons and possible designs for a mini quilt.

I had some fabric from a collection gifted me years ago. I'm a Breast Cancer Survivor.  Several of the fabric had a theme of  Quilt for a Cure.   I’ve used 3 of them on 2 giant heart-shaped pincushions.

An idea started to form. I found a ribbon image on the web.

It printed at 8.5 x 11 inches. So that lead me to the finished size of 13.5 x 11.  I picked some pink scraps from my pink scrap basket, decided on the neutral above as the background and the blue and pink with pink ribbon design as the backing. Originally I thought to pull the backing around to the front as the binding. I didn’t like it! So went with Frosted Dots in pink. I had to piece it because there was just a chink of the FQ left. Then I tried a different binding technique from Edyta Sitar. I just discovered this 8 year old video.

It worked really well. Since I was skimping on the binding,  cutting the strips only 1.75” was helpful!

Stitching on the binding was done Tuesday afternoon while an episode of Grand Tour played on the TV. I'm not a fan but it is "noise in the background" and Mr. Busy watches. Then I finished the binding Tuesday night while watching ANDOR on Disney+.

Ta-Done!

And hanging on the wall in my sewing space, along with a graphic given to me by my youngest granddaughter and her fiancé and a Circle of Geese made at a retreat many years ago. Looks like I have room for one more on this wall!  Looking forward to PQ 14.3!
