Project Quilting 16.4

Trish (aka QuiltChicken), the challenge mistress at Project Quilting, usually likes the Pantone Color of the Year and builds a challenge inspired by it. This year she was “underwhelmed “.

So she chose  Birthstone instead. 

Although I’m ok with brown, see my Three Common Block challenge….I really really like purple.   My birthstone is amethyst.  I have lots of purple in my scrap buckets. As I was sitting in my purple chair in my sewing room, contemplating what I should make, I spied a drawer under my cutting table that has unfinished stitchery in it. I opened the drawer and found…

It’s been waiting to be finished for years. Hard to see, but there are tiny lilac buds . Also I was sorting through some possible patterns, and came across this one. 

I knew what I would do. 

It wasn’t without issue!   Ooops!!

Sewing the parts together, correctly this time!

Final. The binding was stitched on at Thursday Stitchers today. 

Lots of purple with a smattering of red on the back.

I got a bit farther along. Did you guess it was a penguin? I even found my Christmas holly needle minder. Seemed appropriate!

5. Sew some AQUA!❌

Next week

9-12-23 to 9-18-23

1. If the quilter finishes Rainbow Neighbourhood, get the binding attached to the front and ready for hand stitching.

2. Make a label and hanging corners for Rainbow Neighbourhood!

3. Finish bottom border for spool quilt.

4. Stitch on Winter/Christmas Penguin. 

5. Start thinking about ABC Table Scraps Challenge in Aqua with “P” or “Z”!  ie. Sew some aqua!

May 9-15


1. More Precarious!✅. I have the pink section shown at the bottom in my header photo, and the orange and red sections at the top in the photo, yet to do! I have been working from the middle out!

2. Purchase batting for May UFOs ❌ ( Long May She Wave, En Provence, One Happy Girl!)
I have been watching for a sale. Not yet, so I made some frankenbatting for One Happy Girl. It’s a bundle ready to go to the quilter.

I’m going to dig into my batting pieces. Because En Provence is square, I may be able to join two pieces of smaller batting to make the correct size.
3. Spring Stamps….make progress✅ Yes!

4. Stitch on DECEMBER✅ Yes!

5, Rainbow Neighbourhood = House #6….Red or bright green? Or dark blue? 1/2 done. The house is in progress! I may have gone overboard with the hearts!

Next week is much the same.

TO-DO Tuesday #135

Good Morning fellow list-makers! I’m linking up today, with our hostess  Carol at Quilt Schmilt for To-Do Tuesday!

April 4th -April 10th.



1. Cut and sew some horizontal white sashing for the QOV.✅

Oh no! There are no photos on my camera roll, and the rows are all packed away in a project box to take to Spring Sew! I’ll take pictures there and add them here Tuesday afternoon.

 
2. Practice with the AccuQuilt.✅ The Flying Geese die came with my cutter. So I made 10 purple and floral flying geese!

3. Get taxes done.✅ 

4. Plan a project for next week's 3-day Spring Sew.✅ see number one above plus I’m taking my batting pieces to make Frankenbatting!
5. Finish Miss Flopsy before Easter!✅.

The back. I sewed all four sides then slit the backing so I could stuff with fiberfill. I whip stitched the opening closed, then glued two rectangular pieces of wool over the opening. Easy peasy. I followed Lori Holt’s YouTube tutorial.

TO-DO TUESDAY #129. Feb 28th

Last week my list included:

1. Work on SAHRR. Flying geese from round 4 and square in a square from round 5 need to be done. ✅

2. Post to February Table Scraps Challenges at The Joyful Quilter. ✅

       My project is redundant to most of you! I used it to meet more than one challenge.  Here is the post I wrote and linked to The Joyful Quilter.

3. Stitch on November Year in the Garden block! ✅. 

           I finished the green leaves and am starting on the flowers using two shades of coral. There are lots of four petal flowers. 

4. Write post for February OMG finish. ✅

I feel good that these tasks were completed. 

The upcoming week is busy too! First and foremost is helping our granddaughter! She’s taking an online class necessary for a new job. So we will be…

 1. Taking the littles to school each morning. 

2. Complete and post about Project Quilting 14.5.  “Sew Not a Square”!

3. Put sashing pieces on the star blocks for Long May She Wave. 

4. Sew something for RSC 2023 as soon as Angela announces the color for March. Hopefully tomorrow!

5. Visit my old workplace on Wednesday - there will be cake! A late birthday - last week there was a snow storm.

6. Attend Thursday Stitchers at our library. We missed last week 'cause it was -19 degrees when we needed to be there. We cancelled.

Blue Assigned UFOS and a bit of bright blue scraps

Well, I’m sewing a bit of blue this week! Here’s a peek!

Also, I have started on my UFOS that were assigned the “Blue” designation!

   And the Hexagon Table Topper.  I might get this one done if I really “knuckle down”. Fingers crossed.

Row 1, 2 and 3 are stitched together. Need to add rows 4 & 5.  I’ve got 9 days!

Table Scraps Challenge August~Orange with Embroidery

My scraps started out like this…not cohesive at all. I could have gone to my Halloween basket of fabrics but Halloween is more than two months away! There were some crumb block beginnings. 

But I should decide how the embroidery will go. I keep having visions of LeeAnna’s creations. You know, beautiful improve piecing, gorgeous fabrics and fabulous embellishments with embroidery threads and beads! But alas, I’m too OCD or controlling or boring or something!

So I paged through my embroidery patterns. A pumpkin? 

Or maybe this one!

A sunflower? 

A poppy?

I finally settled on this design from Gum Trees BOM 2011.  By Vicki Tucek

I left off the heart shapes in the steam and the ruffle like edging on the coaster , selected two different  orange threads, black for the mug, a mocha for the coffee and a bluish gray for the steam. I had  a large piece of slightly peachy mottled fabric for background. A scrap of Pellon  SF101 ironed quickly to the back and in two evenings I was done.  (Sorry, no photo of just the stitching!)

I sewed some crumbs together, 

found some long pieces for borders, because they were there and they are easy. There was a long pumpkin colored fabric strip that I thought would work for a narrow binding. Sew, trim, add some more. The size it ended up being was decided by a piece of batting that was in the batting scraps bin. And there was a piece  of orange pumpkins for the backing. 

Ready for quilting with Orange Zest thread!

I straight line quilted horizontally and vertically with a spool of Orange Zest, a free gift last year with an order from Missouri Star Quilts.  Then thought I’d give some big stitch quilting a try. I had a spool of 12wt Sulky thread in reddish orange tones.  

 It doesn’t have a color name only a number, 712-4006.  I’d call it rhubarb crisp. 😀

The binding strip got ironed, pressed in half and applied to the back. It’s narrow, so I machine stitched it on the front. Every time I practice this I get a bit better! Not perfect, but it’s a mug mat!
