I LIKE Thursday #293

 

Sharing with others at Not Afraid of Color.  Thanks LeeAnna for continuing to offer this space. 

I don’t have many photos to share, but maybe there will be more next Thursday. This weekend my youngest great grandson is having his 13th birthday party. His grandma, our daughter, is coming from Loveland to help celebrate. 

Last week at our Thursday Stitchers gathering, a newbie stitcher, showed her Chicken Quilt  She bought this as a panel and used it to learn to do basic stem stitch, back stitch, satin stitch and some french knots. She is finally finishing it. It was a labor of love. The striped binding is a perfect choice. 

I ‘m diving into my purple scrap bucket, to get started on September RSC color. 

I’m still reading 

And listening to The Music of Bees on my way to and from my arm therapy. Today is last day of that , so I’ll have to find another time to listen.  I’m in the market for new earbuds. Any suggestions?

Not a lot of sewing happened this week. Here is the reason why!

Emily has joined our family. She is just a baby, 10 weeks old. We are working on potty training mostly. 

I did get squares cut and laid on the small design boards for the last two pink 16-patch stars.  And also cut 16 1.5” squares for star points. This week’s block ( on the right) and on the left, next week’s block. 

There were some various sized crumb blocks made also.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge. End of February Green.

 

 I was a slow starter in February. But I kicked into high gear on Friday. The crumb blocks kept growing. This more muted slab will become a topper for my side table in the living room.

You can see I need to add a piece on the right side of the bottom part. Then it will be ready for backing , batting, and quilting. 

Then this pice is long enough, but needs some more width. About 2.5 inches, to be 12 x 11. Then it will fit on the nesting smaller table.

I have this type of table beside my chair, but mine are oak. 

Then I can get my March stitcheries out and put Valentines away!

Table Scraps Challenge March= Yellow and or Song Lyrics/SongTitle/Poetry

 

So there was some yellow fabric cut and sewed into potato chip blocks in March

And there were scraps leftover that became crumb blocks.

Then I thought of lots yellow themed song titles or song lyrics. I’d made a similar one last year for PQ 15.2 January 2024

This could have been, “Here comes the Sun” or “ Put on a Happy Face” so I didn’t want to do sunshine again.

So this is my finish: Remembering John and George, Paul and Ringo. Did you watch Ringo’s Grand Ole Opry Debut, last week? Yellow Submarine was written by Paul McCartney with lead vocals by Ringo Starr.,

Yellow Submarine 

I finally found a free graphic of a submarine.  I traced the sub and the periscope and the propeller. In retrospect  the propeller and the periscope probably should have been lighter. Maybe gray?

The blue fabric with bubbles, seaweed and even fish was a surprise to find. It was a chunk and determined the size of this mini. SCORE!  I dumped one of my button jars. I didn’t get a photo, cause I ended up bent over picking up spilled buttons. 😲 These blue buttons were from either my mom’s stash or my MIL’s craft stash. Either way, they found a home as portholes on the sub. I added triangle corners when I sewed on the 1 7/8ths inch binding. It will probably live in my sewing room.

ScrapHappy Saturday

 

  This week it is feeling like fall. Cool in the mornings, but warm to almost hot by mid afternoon. It’s the kind of day that you take a jacket to work and leave it on the hook behind the door when you go home at quitting time. I used to do that all the time! LOL! 

I sewed darks, mostly browns this week.

And three zipper blocks. Who knew seashells would be in the brown category!

Also some fabric auditioning for some secret sewing!

I just had to share the creation of my friend Donnette. It’s wool appliqué, a Sue Spargo pattern. The background is black wool, except for the white and black clamshells and rectangles. She will bind it and enter it into our quilt show in early October. I think it’s just gorgeous!

And then, I mentioned it feels like fall. I’m thinking Thanksgiving!!  Here is our neighborhood wild Turkey on top of a car parked in the neighboring yard. What a silly bird!

ScrapHappy Saturday. June 15th

 

I'm joining Angela and friends for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and spreading a bit of blue cheer. 

Last week I showed you three blue Split Nine Blocks. They are still on the design wall and have been joined by a 4th Split 9 and 4 zipper blocks. Since I am using both light and dark blues I think I will make 4 more blue zipper blocks. and four more split nines before the end of June. Hopefulluy!  Still no "set in stone" plan for how these blocks will go, but I'll need more than 4 each I'm sure. 

I spent some of this week, trying to make a backing for a small child's quilt.It will be scrappy. Come back next week to see how I did!!

ScrapHappy Saturday

 

Just trying to rev up my blues. I have a light blue scrap bucket and a dark blue scrap bucket. So finding blue shouldn’t be a problem. I sewed 3 split nine blocks, cut pieces for 1 more and also for some zipper blocks. I’m mixing dark and light in my blocks.

I started stitching the June design on Woven Wreaths. I like this watering can with baby’s breath in it. The little bee is a tiny stitch. But Kathy has some great tips in her YouTube tutorial for completing the bee. I’ll get him done today, or finish him tomorrow while watching CBS Sunday Morning. I want to look at the tutorial one more time before doing the bee.

I caught whatever it was that Mr. Busy had last week. I call it a summer cold. Headache, runny nose, some aches and pains that are relieved by Tylenol. And a scratchy throat that feels better when I drink my Hot Spiced Tea. I used to call it Russian Tea, but now it’s just Spiced Tea. 🫖 So not much was accomplished, but I got several naps! 💤

I don’t add sugar at all. I like the pucker of the lemonade flavor. When this recipe was given to me you could buy Wyler’s Lemonade in packets like KoolAid. Now I buy a canister of CountryTime Lemonade and a canister of Tang and just make a batch at a time.

ScrapHappy Saturday.

 

Starting a new month and a new color. I’m anxious to sew blues.  There was a chuck of blue added to the bottom hem piece that needs to be added to the quilty shower curtain.  I’ll eventually get it totally done and then will try to write a step by step. I’ve had some questions about the method to my madness!

Today is my brother’s birthday. He’s the only one of the four of us who has a summer birthday. The only one who is left handed and the only one of us who didn’t wear glasses in elementary school. So interesting I think! 

And tomorrow Mr. Busy and I celebrate our 60th Wedding Anniversary! 

We were so young! Our bridesmaids wore blue, there were blue gladiolus decorating the church. 

Sooo,  I’m ready to sew blue! The blue scrap baskets are on the cutting table.

Last Purple ScrapHappy Saturday!

There was not much purple sewing going on in my space this week. I was trying to get my 30 Blocks flimsy wide enough to become a shower curtain. I measured and cut squares and rectangles of several colors. And I measured and sewed muslin for a backing. Not much to look at. I didn’t get it done. 

But there was a bit of purple in the mix! 

I had a couple of days where I wasn’t feeling my best. Achey and out of sorts. So I did some cross stitch, read a book and napped. 

Unstitched the hems in some gifted gingham curtains and sewed the pieces back together for a backing for the Jasmine quilt. 

I posted about my Table Scraps Challenge Thread Catcher.   There were just small projects completed!

ScrapHappy Saturday 24.8

Last week I showed some split nines, some red squares and red with white hearts fabric. I hinted that the heart fabric might end up as binding for Table scraps Challenge. It didn’t. Instead, I brought the backing fabric forward. 

I sewed some thin red strips to Rudy’s top and left side. He just keeps ending up square. Only one more round to go for Stay At Home Round Robin! 

I hope to make a few more zipper blocks with red. I didn’t see a color chosen for March, so I’ll continue with the red.

My week was mostly spent on PQ 15.4. Something using Hourglass shapes.

Not any red, but some vivid berry pink.
