Scrap Happy Saturday ~ September 9

Because I forgot about aqua, I have no UFOS assigned to be finished or at least worked on this month. I could I forget aqua? It’s a favorite color! 

So I will work on my OMG…..it needs my attention!

And maybe sew some aqua string blocks or crumb blocks. Maybe both!

I did get the binding on this little quilt which will go in the donation pile. The binding isn’t aqua but there are some aqua fabrics in this one!

Finished or Not Finished Friday

Whoo Hoo!! I have a finish. Finally the One Happy Girl quilt is quilted, thanks Nicki, and bound. 

A close up of a favorite block, Dick and Jane, the pieced flannel backing, and a close up of the quilting! I think the design is Jitterbug. 

I attached this narrower than usual binding (1 3/4”) to the back then stitched the fold to the front with a decorative stitch on my machine.

It’s a donation kids quilt so I am not concerned that it is sturdy looking. It’ll take some abuse, if need be. 

It’s a binding technique I picked up by watching a Fat Quarter Shop YouTube video with Edyta Sitar. 

I can’t get it to load here, but search How to make double-fold binding by Edyta Sitar -Fat Quarter Shop. I’m loving it, as it takes less fabric so I am using up scraps.

I'm linking up today to again show the donation quilts that I will be sending to Little Lambs of Utah. I have contacted them about the box and I just need to print a label.  I had hoped to have 3 to send, but my long arm quilters are all booked.   So when I get #3 quilted and bound and washed and ready, I'll send it one.  Sometime this summer, I'm sure.

Finally a Finish! A Hands 2 Help donation!

Yesterday I met with some friends, 15 of us, to socialize and stitch on various projects. Some stitched on wool, some did regular embroidery, some Brazilian embroidery. Some of us bound a recent project. One friend is doing a kind of weaving, I think she called it huck weaving! She’s using Monk cloth and blue thread. 

 I stitched the binding on one of my Hands to Help donation quilts while I sat and visited.  I didn’t quite finish, there were lots of distractions, but did finish it at home. 

Happy Blocks all done for a gender neutral or at least not girly quilt.

And there is that smiley face fabric again!

And I also made house block #5 for the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL. I’m think I’ll call this the Day Care Center.  The smiley face fabric is not gone yet!

Three more to go, because the Christmas House is finished, but I haven’t shown it yet. 🙂

A quick check in with Hands 2 Help!

This one I call, Any Kid. There are both boy themed fabrics and girl themed fabrics together. And there are no pink border fabrics.

And this one is One Lucky Girl! Definitely girl fabrics. Cinderella, a fairy godmother, kitten ballerinas and some pink used in the borders. 

I’m hoping after quilting and a run through the washing machine they will fit the parameters for The Little Lambs. If they are still too big I will send them to Quilty Hugs for Happy Chemo. This is a pattern/ tutorial used by Sylvia at Treadlestitches.

Finished or Not Finished Friday

My finish is a “bitty” one. 

I finished a small counted cross stitch pillow or dough bowl filler. I only have one Easter or Spring themed little, so don’t have a proper display!  I used Lori Holt’s tutorial for finishing. 

Here is the back. I didn’t “embellish “ the back with buttons and that special safety pin she uses, but my stitches are covered by the felt/ wool scraps..  The wooden thingy is a business card holder that my late brother-in-law made from a scrap of oak. Works just fine for a little prop!

My buffet with the Bunny Head mini runner I made 2 years ago and some long legged rabbits that have been in my stuff forever! I’ve gotten rid of lots of tchotchkes that I used to use! 

But my Not Finished projects are many! 

I’m not finished with “Long May She Wave”.

Row 7 is under my needle. I have 3 more horizontal sashings to attach, then sew then all together into a top!

Or “One Happy Girl”. 

The flimsy is done, but she needs a backing pieced and some batting found or constructed!

And there are a few more that shall go un-named! 😳

So I finally have something to link up with Alycia and her Finished or No Finished party!

To-Do Tuesday #134

Oh my stars! Usually on Monday mornings I go back to the previous week's TDT post , make a copy of it and start the new TDT post so I can see how I did. Well, you all probably noticed, I didn’t make a list to accomplish from March 28th to April 3rd. No wonder I felt “off”!

I guess I’ll just show and tell you what I did do! 

I got the Any Kid quilt and Growing Up Odd quilt delivered to the long arm quilter.

There are no photos, but they are in the possession of Nicki at Heirlooms by Design!,

I planned food for our Grandson -in-law’s birthday party. 

 No photos of the party either but it was great fun. Sunday Brunch. 

 

I got the additional 10 Happy Blocks made and One Happy Girl is on the wall

 

My replacement Go Big cutter arrived on Saturday morning, so I had to rearrange my sewing space a bit. 

A small gaming table that Mr Busy built and painted years ago, works fine at the end of my cutting table.

I stitched on Miss Flopsy and thought about how to get her to a FFO. (Fully Finished Object)

I've got the breast of the robin to stitch. An eye in each the bird and Miss Flopsy and Miss Flopsy's nose. 

green stems on the carrots need to be done too! 

Here is my To-Do list for the upcoming week 

April 4th -April 10th.

1. Cut and sew some horizontal white sashing for the QOV.

2. Practice with the AccuQuilt.

3. Get taxes done.

4. Plan a project for next week's  3-day Spring Sew.

5. Finish Miss Flopsy before Easter!

I forgot to take a photo of the box at the FedEx store! But be assured, Mr. Busy helped me box it up and carried it into the store for me. That thing is HEAVY!



4. Keep working on star sashing for Long May She Wave. ✅

Last ScrapHappy Saturday for March!

I'm sharing my GREEN goals at Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023!  Thanks Angela for allowing me to do it my way this year. Finishing is a must for me this year!!!

Most of you remember that I’m following the color prompt to finish some UFOs. I have a spreadsheet on my laptop that has all my UFOs listed and I randomly assigned each one a color. When Angela announced that color, I work on that UFO for the month. Green led me to get the borders on Growing Up Odd and to get a flimsy of happy blocks ( one of my blocks for 2022).

The Happy Blocks are all together, stay stitched around the outside, pressed and folded in the bag to go to the quilter.

I’m pretty happy with the way this project list is going!

2. Think about ABC Table Scraps Challenge.❌

Technically not true! I thought I would cut some HST on Sunday. Last week I ordered an AccuQuilt cutter, the electric Go Big! Expensive! It arrived Thursday and I didn’t get a chance to open it til Saturday. Then I read all the accompanying paperwork! On Sunday, I plugged it in, reread the start steps and hit the green button. Noise, but no cutting! Made three more tries! Still no cutting! I have submitted a support ticket and chatted with the AQ BOT! !  Karen and Jeanna reached out to me about their cutter. They both are happy with theirs. As of 5:00 pm Monday I have received an email from Customer Service. I followed their suggestions and their instructions. I hope to be packing the cutter up and shipping it back to them this week. 

3. Happy Blocks ✅ In frustration after what was happening with the accuquilt, I put them on the wall.     Rearranged and left them. I didn’t like them! “Sad face”

Then,  I pulled out all the definitely girly blocks and make seven more in more gender neutral colors. This is the result, before I started to sew them together. They are now webbed vertically. Tomorrow or soon , I will sew the horizontal rows. Then probably a border.  Or not!!
