December OMG Finish Link Up

 Because I am away from my machine for the whole of December, my OMG must be handwork.. I have finished the embroidery for the Christmas designs for a table topper.  

I need to make the coordinating hexies.  I need 16 fabric hexies.  My goal is to get 10 done.  That is one more than half. There are 19 hexies in total.

Ten fabric hexies and 3 embroidered hexies are done. Only the row that is Teal, green polka dots, embroidered star and teal plaid are joined together. But they are getting there. Six more hexies will be needed to complete the table topper. 

It will look sort of like this, only Christmas fabrics. I'll post a photo on my blog when it is completely finished and  we are back home.

December 2020 One Monthly Goal

Because I am away from my machine for the whole of December, my OMG must be handwork.. I have finished the embroidery for the Christmas designs for a table topper.  

I need to make the coordinating hexies.  I need 16 fabric hexies.  My goal is to get 10 done.  That is one more than half. There are 19 hexies in total. 

I have started marking the 1/4" seam allowance.

November OMG Challenge Met!

 

My goal  for November was to finish the  3 Christmas designs that will be part of a hexagon table topper. Most of this project is done by hand. That works for this time that we are away from my machine. 

So the wreath is done! 

The star and the heart are done. I think the heart looks like peppermint candy. 

I’m excited to start the hexagon part of this project!

Mostly green with a little pink. 

And a cute starfish charm! 

3. Make Christmas fabric masks for Mr. Busy and myself. When I asked if he would wear a Christmas fabric face mask, he looked at me like I was off my rocker..so now I have 2 new masks. 

 

I used two different, new to me, patterns found on YouTube. 

4. Write  November OMG post and link to Elm Street Quilts.

November OMG Link Up

My One Monthly Goal for November involves some handwork. I  hope to be able to get these embroidery designs done and ready to be made into a Christmas table topper.  Most is hand work. And by Thanksgiving I will be in California without my machine. 

This one is nearing completion. 

These haven't been started. Can you even see them?  A Star and A Heart! They will be sewn into a Hexie patchwork. Like this only Christmas themed,  not Fall themed. 

I have the charm squares packed with the selected embroidery floss for the other two designs. The pattern is in my go-bag too! The top is put together by hand.  The quilting and the backing was added by machine on the one above.

This weeks TO-DO List. 

October 27 - November 2

1.  Make more "fabric yarn"    ✔️

2.  Make two more Heartland Blocks   ✔️

3.  Make a zip bag for a travel jewelry pouch    ✔️

4.  Bonus:  a yellow/gold string block   ✔️

#1   Fabric Yarn to crochet another rug!

A heaping basket and another partial tote. I sew the strips end to end overlapping with a forward, backward,forward stitch. My preferred size is less than an inch wide. But, I'm flexible. In the big scheme of things, it doesn't matter if they are 1" or 1.25"  Much bigger is hard to crochet, they go in the string block bucket!

That big mess became this!  This will go with me on our road trip. I can crochet in the car. I cannot embroider in the car. 

#2. I had 5 Heartland blocks now there are 9. 

#3  Sew a zipper pouch for travel. 

You may remember I started sewing scrap of light neutrals. I made too many!  Some became the outside fabric for this pouch. I used this pattern.  String Block Zipper Pouch. I have used it before and I had a tote full of scraps and strips and interfacing and paper cut to size and even some odd zippers. It went together quickly. 

For the inside I used a tiny print that has been in my stash since I began to quilt. It's little flower buds. I bought way too much back then and have been trying to use it up. It works here. 

Bonus #4    One yellow string block. 

I have been doing string block sporadically for the last year......

I need more yellow, more aqua more orange. My green and blue are mixed of light and dark. No plan as to what these will become. I also have some that are multi colors......just waiting in the wings for inspiration.

ScrapHappy Saturday. Final Yellow Roundup!

And last but not least, a yellow scrap basket. A different construction method was fun to try!  And I practiced FMQ on my old Bernina. It was not wonderful! Some special gifted fabric makes this one an extra special project!   And it was my One Monthly Goal for October!

October OMG! Yellow basket

 My One Monthly Goal for October was to make a scrap basket using a new to me method, 

I had very few crumb blocks leftover from making them in 2018 for  the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. So I took the bits I had and raided my 1.5” and 2” strip buckets! I lamented in an early October post that I was running out of yellow scraps and would soon have to dig into my bigger chunks! 

To the rescue...The Joyful Quilter! 

An envelope with many yellow scraps. I knew I would need binding for this technique and I knew I would add a handle. I sorted through the scraps and chose ones for those parts. Then started adding Joy’s scraps to mine to get my slab big enough. With a little help from Joy and her math whiz son, (she sent me the dimensions I needed), I got the puzzle pieces together! 

I pieced together some thinner poly blend plain yellow that had been given to me! I wouldn’t use it in a quilt, bot this application is perfect. I don’t have pictures of the quilting process. I used my QE Bernina and it was stressful and ugly. I am determined to practice practice practice! These kinds of projects are good practice pieces, 

The basket with joined side seams and the corners boxed. No top binding yet!

I thought I needed 

a little rigidity in the bottom, so I cut a piece of cardboard from a box and made a slipcover for it. Like a small pillowcase! 

Looking inside! 

The side seams....next time I’m going to try zigzagging over them. They don’t really bother me, raw like that. I just think I’ll try it! 

And done. The handle looks low but it really isn’t.

And now it is put to use ! That little goldish  scrap with 3  blackbirds is from Joyful, it deserves a special place. 

So my OMG is ✅
