Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2020 Round Up

 Angela at So Scrappy and hostess of Rainbow Scrap Challenge has suggested a round up of our completed quilts/projects. 

This year I started out making Hollow 9 Patches in the monthly color and Geese Migration blocks. I am away from home, or I would do a design wall presentation. Instead you'll have to suffer the photos from my camera roll!

January's light or bright green.  

 

Feb -  Orange

March - Teal and Aqua Blue- Green

April - Light and bright blue

And then in May, there was a Scrap Basket that developed into a challenge with Joyful at The Joyful Quilter. 

I began with dark green and then went back and caught up with the previous colors. My shelves begin to look quite colorful! 

Soon there was 

Red

And Dark Red

And yellow

And I’ve finished with these two!

I need to make several more Geese Migration blocks and decide on a background color. I haven’t shopped for quite awhile and it will be online I am sure. There aren’t enough hollow nine patches to make a quilt, so I will continue with those in the new year!

ScrapHappy Saturday

 There has been some scrap sewing!

Mostly neutrals! 

With a variegated neutral that has been in my stash for awhile. 

Some multi colors!  There has to be a project in this tote, don’t you think? 

I found two large  triangles.....bias binding perhaps?

Some dark scraps! 

Nothing to show and tell, just yet! 

I still haven’t found background for these scrappy sprouts! It’s the same old story! No shopping being done, I’m reluctant to purchase  online, for fear of not being satisfied! My LQS has limited selections. And my focus has been elsewhere lately. So these were labeled and put back in a project box for safekeeping! 

I did make these...

Four hollow 9s. ....In browns and beiges. I have lots of brown.....cause several years ago this walk hanging happened! 

And to round out the neutral theme!  This today!

RSC20 November / December Scrapbasket Challenge!

 I’ve been chilling,  waiting to see what Joyful might do about our scrap basket challenge! I only have 12 days until I’m away from my machine till the end of the year. So I’m taking the leap of faith that she will accept my challenge. Anyone else want to join in?  Please do. November will be a neutral scrap basket. Your choice of size to fit your allotted space. You pick the technique. There are tutorials out there and there may be one in the making! 

I got an early start!  Slabs and crumbs and strips and pieces all started to puzzle together. Then frakenbatting happened and a piece left over from a worn and stained holiday table cloth became the backing or inside of the basket! 

You can see bits of pink from great granddaughter Miss B’s Welcome quilt, There some black on white that was in a step granddaughter’s college graduation quilt. There’s text fabric and a bit of aboriginal fabric! 

I started by dividing the slab into fourths with the large serpentine stitch on my machine using this thread. It’s a variegated ecru/tan.  Then stitching “snakey” lines the width of my walking  foot!

The lavender dots to the left and the Australia n fabric near the bottom of this section. 

There were some extra crumb blocks and this zipper pouch happened. Truth be told there are more extra crumby blocks to go into the finished basket!  LOL

I hope Joyful will be OK with me starting on my basket! And I hope we get some other takers on the challenge.  So end of November, let's show and tell our Light Neutral Scrap Baskets and then the end of December we will show and tell our Dark Neutral Scrap Baskets!  Deal?

And last but not least, a yellow scrap basket. A different construction method was fun to try!  And I practiced FMQ on my old Bernina. It was not wonderful! Some special gifted fabric makes this one an extra special project!   And it was my One Monthly Goal for October!

Scrappy Happy Saturday Plodding Along

 

 

I’m still working on YELLOW

I finished the 2 required yellow Geese Migration blocks! It was fun to have some new gifted fabric to use. TU Joyful! 

I'm using prepped Easy Breezy pieces as Leaders and Enders...but Geese Migration blocks are really good L&E in their own right! Two are complete. 

Next Saturday I should have a wrap up! And then a start on the next scrap basket or two! Are you sick of seeing my baskets? I hope not, there are more to come! And then , I’ll have to think about RSC21! 

I had a different basket/bag this week. A sort of Squirrel or DreAMi ! 

We will be traveling for the holidays!  Since Mr Busy had his dental surgery we have been using a WaterPik Flosser!  This bag will carry it with us. I just winged it on a design, though I did watch a You Tube video by Whitney Sews. I used her method of adding the drawstrings.  All from my stash and I'm pretty pleased. I'll show more photos next week.

Scrap Happy Saturday 10-10-20

 Not much happening in my sewing room this week! I’ve been “putzing” as my brother calls it! I looked up that word...it’s slang . To engage in aimless recreation or frivolous time-wasting! It doesn’t exactly apply, I’ve read lots of blogs, conversed back and forth with some, sewed some fabric together to make backing for my yellow scrap basket.

It’s some thin yellow blend that was in a tote of fabric donated to me. I’d never put it in a quilt, but it will work for this. 

I did a few Hollow 9 patches. Well, two! Although, there is one under my needle and another on a design board. I know that little tiger has some green, but I couldn’t resist adding him to that block. 

All the necessary scrappy sprout blocks were finished. Proof! 

There was lunch eaten in the pickup while sitting in this park on Friday!  The trees here are starting to turn a lovely bright yellow. Not much red but the elms and cottonwoods can be very pretty. Especially when the sun shines.
