Blogger Is Giving Me Fits

So I’ll do some Slow Stitching today. It calms me. 

  Suddenly I’m not getting comments via emails. I was starting to get my feelings hurt!  lol. Just know that I am not getting your comments like I used to. I’m working on finding a solution. 

I will respond in the comments section of  the blog until I find a solution 

This is not happening with all bloggers. Nancy and Diann are two I often hear from and now do not.

But on to better things. 

I haven’t done much slow stitching since I posted on the 16th of February. The binding was done on these two projects. 

Project Quilting 16.4.  Birthstone using a pattern from Pieced Tree.  The Understudy.

Table Scraps Challenge for February. Blue and NEON/or Brights,  an improv mug mat using bright colors from my scraps and some sparkly thread. 

And I Fully Finished the Shamrock Alphabet Sampler from Melisa at Pinker n Punkin Quilting. Fully Finished might be stretching it a tad. I used a piece of cording from my ribbon stash and can’t decide how to finish it off, so it doesn’t fray. It’s rayon I think, but of course’s no label. I tried melting a scrap, but it was very successful. So it’s still attached! LOL. 

I’m trying to locate my other St Patrick’s Day tschotskes. Maybe I ‘downsized’ them, right out of here!

I’ll have to improvise. 

I hope to finish December temps on this Temperature Heart today. It’s lovely outside and I may be tempted to take a walk later.

I LIKE Thursday Some Good Stuff

LeeAnna is suffering some physical pain and unable to sit long times at her computer. We, I LIKE Thursday posters, will just keep posting the Good Stuff.

When I participated in the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL sponsored/hosted by Sandra from mmmquilts I was lucky enough to win a prize from Cheryl Brickey at Meadow Mist Designs.  My prize was 4 digital patterns. I downloaded them this week. Looking Glass was one of my choices. 

I'll share the others as I write I LIKE Posts this month. 

Our daughter came for a short visit. She has found a place to begin stockpiling her "things".  So she will take a few more totes home with her this trip. She and some friends went camping to Vedauwoo near Laramie WY.  She had a wonderful time and that makes me happy!

Hijack  on Apple+

Justified : City Primeval premiered on FX on Tuesday night. We don’t have FX, so we watched it on HULU on Wednesday.

And Sweet Magnolias begins Season 3 on Netflix tonight!

Have you watched the first seasons of Sweet Magnolias?  A typical chick flick and I so enjoy it. Mr. Busy will watch with me. Afterall, I watch S.W.A.T, , Jack Ryan, Misson Impossible , Justified with him!!!!!

New ruler, Mini Simple Folded Corner recommended by Bonnie Hunter for her new Leaders and Enders block. 

I have read the instructions multiple times, tied both methods and I’m not sold on it yet!

I’ll keep practicing!

I wished I had had my camera handy. Saturday night as we were going out to meet our granddaughter and her family for pizza at Old Chicago, we came to a stoplight not far from our house. The vehicle in our lane was stopped sort of askew. And suddenly he jumped out of the driver side door and ran to the front of his pickup. Turns out he was shooing a mother duck and 8-10 tiny ducklings across the highway. I gave him a two thumbs up as he hurried back into his vehicle the light had turned green. But no one was worried that we had to wait an extra minute. Oh to have had that on tape. 🥰 

Tuesday morning I was sitting on my front porch having coffee. It was 7:30 ish. Now the arrival of the garbage truck usually isn’t newsworthy, but here is our truck. It has a name! Hop, Skip and Dump! I smile every time I see that! Last year the city held a contest and each  elementary schools got to name a dump truck. You can see that this truck was named by the students at Buffalo Ridge Elementary. 

My brother and SIL live on the outskirts of Rapid City SD. They make road trips to the Black Hills regularly. My SIL is an avid photographer and loves wildflowers . Sharing a few of her recent photos.

I LIKE Thursday ~ Any Celebrities?

Good Morning All! Hope your week has been wonderful so far!  Join LeeAnna and friends to share the good things ! 

"have you ever had a close encounter with a celebrity? Seen someone in person, talked to them, etc?  please tell us the details!"

It’s pretty difficult to run into a celebrity in South Dakota or Wyoming! That being said, I did get the autograph of George Peppard when I was about 16. Some of the movie How the West Was Won  was filmed in and around the Black Hills of South Dakota, in 1962. That’s where I grew up. Some of the cast and crew did a promotional appearance. An all star cast in that movie, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Debbie Reynolds. But I only got George Peppard’s autograph. He was a heartthrob back then. 

Wish I still had that autograph book! 

I took a trip with my MYF( Methodist Youth Fellowship) when I was 18 and a senior in high school. We saw a Broadway play in NYCity. We saw “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”. It starred Robert Morse. We also saw Elizabeth Taylor in a limousine on the street as we waited in line. Very exciting when you’re 18, and from South Dakota!

And just to bore you with my age, I’ve seen a couple of celebrities in concert. Kenny Rodgers in Billings Montana and Mac Davis and Barry Manilow  in Rapid City SD. I missed seeing Elvis! We had just moved to Wyoming and Mr Busy said” he’ll be back, we’ll go next time”! It was June 1977! You all know the rest of the story, he died August 16th, 1977. 

Well, that was certainly nostalgic! Nothing exciting in recent years! 

Other stuff:

We are still watching Rabbit Hole on Netflix. And Mr Busy and I watched The Mother with Jennifer Lopez. 

Intense but good! IMHO!

We did nothing special on Mother’s Day. Mr Busy bought flowers on Friday, they still look pretty good. I’m a real amateur when it comes to arranging Dollar Store bundles of mums!

I did take myself to an art show in our community,  called Local Color. All local artists, and all pieces were for sale!   I got permission to take a few photos, as long as they weren’t  up close. Hopefully you’ll be  able to zoom in on the first photo. 

This fiber artist is new to our community.  Just a few of the pieces she had in the show!

I took this photo mostly for Mr. Busy. It’s some examples of metal sculpture!

The crabapple trees are blooming in our neighborhood! This is fuzzy because I had to crop out the pickup trucks (almost) and garbage cans at the neighbors! 😂. There are white and pink flowered varieties. The pink ones haven’t quite got to full glory yet. I’ll watch for some to photograph this week! 

I finished quilting Precarious yesterday late afternoon. Now I’ll have to pick a binding, make a label and get it done!  Photos soon!

I’m still making houses! This is #6 to show, I have a 7th one done but haven’t shown it yet! 

Nine houses are needed for the throw size, so just  2 more. I’m leaning toward bright green and turquoise. 

There’s a birthday celebration for our oldest granddaughter on Sunday. She’ll be 38! How is that possible? I was 39 when she was born! She’s requested cheesecake or brownies for “her cake”. I’m going to do both! The rest will be simple. Burgers and brats on the grill, chips, dip, fruit tray and veggies! Soda, iced tea, maybe lemonade!

I LIKE Thursday # 58

 

Good Morning!  These last few days have had a fall feel. Cool Mornings, warmer afternoons. I'll be checking in with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color to see what other bloggers have been"liking" these days. 

I don’t have a lot of photos today! But I do have some likes!

I was able to complete this project for my August One Monthly Goal! It gave me some challenges, but it is done. Now it will be put away again for my granddaughter. There is more about this project here and here!

The back needed a little repair. But I like the results! 

I’m thinking of putting some pertinent info on that little patch and calling it a label!

My chair side table had a new topper! Way better than the old hand-me-down placemat that was there. Maybe it will encourage me to keep the table straightened up! ps: Now the basket needs a new liner!

During our walk last night, Mr Busy and I marveled at the sunset! Stunning! Don’t you agree?

I’m nearly finished reading The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb by Melanie Benjamin.

If I had to rate it today it would get 4/5 stars. 

 

We are really looking forward to the new season on television. Yellowstone, Chicago Wednesday, NCIS and all those spinoffs. We've been watching some re-runs, the game shows on Wednesday. I have always like $50,000 Pyramid! I'm still doing Sudoku and Daily Crosswords on my iPad. Did you know that the "Godfather of Sudoku, Maki Kaji passed away. He didn't really invent the game, it's ages old. But he did refine it and is responsible for its recent popularity. 

Guess that will have to do today. It's my Thursday Stitchers gathering day. I don't know how much longer they will let us gather at the library. Our schools started on Monday, our county number of virus cases are increasing. I'm looking forward to the chance for a booster come September or October. I'll be wearing a mask today. I'll be the only one I'm sure.

Finished or Not Finished Friday!

 Nothing totally finished, but they are getting closer to the finish line. 

The binding is attached to the Dick and Jane quilt. 

One corner is done and almost the adjacent side.  It should be done in a few more hours. Definitely in time to enter into the quilt show. 

And the Loose Threads Challenge project is now a pillow cover! If you have been following this project, it started as a paper bag full of stuff. A mini charm pack, glitter glue, 2 feathers, a piece of plaid ribbon, some funky pom poms, a Styrofoam bird and 2 pieces of coordinating fabric plus a list o weird holidays to use as inspiration. Because I had the drive -in movie fabric, I chose June 6th. Drive-In Movie Day. I know!  Our project coordinator is demented! We had to chose a day and make a project using at least 2 items from the bag! 

The patchwork panel, using a mini charm pack called Sunday Supper from Moda, plus 3 extra squares cut from stash to get the required 45 (9X5). It is lightly quilted in a grid and has Thermore batting . 

The original pattern that inspired this is called a book pillow. I first found in on Polka Dot Chair blog and have made a few as book pillows and electronic tablet pillows. This is an 18"square pillow, so it could hold a book..

or a package of cookies..

The backing has a zipper closure. The flap covering the zipper was pieced to make the scraps available equal 18 1/2 " 

These are cut out from the text fabric provided by the challenge coordinator, and fused on. The End will be hand appliqued with a buttonhole stitch. Because I forgot to add it prior to completing the cover. Doh!

The applique pieces on the front of the pillow were buttonhole stitched by machine!

The only additional thing to do is add the silver glitter glue to a few of the stars.  I practiced on a left over piece and it works well and it just the right amount of bling! 

So Not Finished, but both project close.  And the pillow is my OMG for September. So I am pleased!

Final So Scrappy Saturday of April

So Scrappy Saturday hosted by Angela at So Scrappy!

I decided to put all my April Aqua blocks and projects on the design wall. I am disappointed because I am running out of Aqua strings and scraps to make more string blocks. A couple pieces are large enough to cut the length needed to go on the diagonal, but the rest are too little or they are over fat quarter size. ( I find it hard to cut into those) 😞

I have one string block and another under my needle. 6 bowtie blocks, 6 scrappy sprout blocks, and 3 Tiny Tuesday blocks. I did not get the one from last week, made yet.  And hopefully there will be one more, 5 Tuesdays in April. Also at the top of my design board are the first 25 blocks of my April row on my Temperature Quilt. It reads Aqua also.  There are a couple of green signifying warmer weather, but mostly April has been from 35 degrees to upper 60's.  There were a couple of days that we reached 71.

I think I will put out an APB ( All Points Bulletin) for aqua strings at my next guild meeting. I could be sorry!!!

April OMG Linking Up

I have many goals for April!  Finish the book I am reading!  Keep up with my Temperature Quilt and get better at posting on Instagram! Do the Tiny Tuesday Block in the current color, an offering from Angela at So Scrappy!  I also signed up for APQ UFO Challenge 2019. And I want to spend at least part of one week with my sister!

But, my OMG for April is to get at least one border done on my Spool Quilt! This project was started a long time ago. I need to research to find out what year! My group exchanged strips for the spools. Then I finally got the center of the top put together. I think it is a little light and so I put it away. I started the tracing of the pieces for the applique border. But again got stopped.  Maybe there was a baby quilt that needed to be done, or a comfort quilt for my brother or something?

 This is the book from Edyta Sitar that has the pattern.  There are a lot of other blocks in this book that call to me!

And this is on my cutting table this morning. I got out the tote and pulled out the contents. The borders are cut and labeled.  "check"    Some tracing is done! "check" 

Now to begin to cut out, place and fuse down and machine applique. I will be doing the borders one at a time, then connecting the corners. This method was suggested and endorsed by several members that have their version completed. It will make it easier to man handle the bulk through the machine as I machine applique all those vines and flowers.  So there it is: One Border of the Spool quilt!

Projects Finished, but NOT really

Inspired by Carla's All About Strings Blog Hop, I started making some string blocks. The last week of the month, I have finished my other challenges. OMG, APQ, local group, even Tiny Tuesday. I was wanting to sew, but couldn't get my groove on!

I have  4 green blocks, March's RSC19 color, and am making red next. I wonder if I have enough of lighter brighter green to make 2-3 more?  They seem dark and Christmasy!

Ignore the black bow tie block for now!

Making string blocks is messy work!

Tiny Tuesday is an umbrella block.....still needs the diagonal setting squares added. Oh my, I just saw that my snowmen are basically upside down. That will have to be ok, at least it is not snowing yet outside.

Out my front window! Cold, rainy, drizzle. Fog too, but not snow!  YET!  It is predicted. Cross your fingers we only get rain and the temperature doesn't drop below freezing. We are planning a road trip tomorrow to finally deliver the quilt to my sister as she is finishing her 3rd round of chemotherapy!

And here are 8 blocks for Kat's Covered in Love March/April drive that are ready for the mail.

Two purple and two yellow CiL blocks. Based on a block called Hope of Hartford, they are 12.5 inches unfinished.

And two that are pink and 2 that are blue.



All seemingly NOT finished, but finishes  in the BIG Picture.
