I Like Thursday October 5

I’m joining LeeAnna and friends sharing some bits and pieces of our week. Mostly good,  some not!

Fall is definitely in the air. We have some fungi growing in out yard. This picture was taken Saturday, the 30th.

This one the next day. It’s black and oily underneath! Eeeewh!

And now it’s gone! I wanted to remove it, Mr. Busy said leave it! I deferred, he’s the yard guy! We don’t have pets or littles that are impacted.

The last of the small plum tomatoes from the 5 pots I planted. Not a good year for me and tomatoes. I’m giving up. I’ll grow herbs next year! Speaking of herbs , here’s LeeAnna prompt for this week.

what is an unusual herb or spice that you love now that you've tried it? How do you use it? Did you grow up with these or start using them as adults?

Over the last couple of years I have purchased some spices from Penzeys. I like their blends. They have lots of different combinations in addition to usual spices. And they provide recipes too. They also sell mills, shakers, magnets, mugs and the like. They are located in Wisconsin but ship all over.

My favorite combination is Arizona Dreaming. . I love Mexican inspired food. This adds just the right amount of kick and a hint of chocolate! And it’s salt-free! This is another that I use often.

A combination of chervil, minced parsley, French tarragon, and chopped chives. I don’t use these herbs singularly, except parsley and occasionally chives. But this combo is good in soups, stews, sauces and pasta.

Lastly a photo of our son on his birthday. A group of friends threw him a birthday taco bar. The woman on the left ( his right) was the organizer. She’s a sweetheart! I so appreciate that he has good friends !

Oh, and a second last good thing! The Denver Broncos finally won a game. I’ll be wearing my lucky shirt again this week when they play at home! Against the Chiefs! 😳

Stay Busy and Stay Happy and Healthy and Hopeful!

  1. Hi Judy! We had some fungi growing in our yard, too. I didn't get close enough to take a picture but EWWW. This year has been a bad year for tomatoes here, too. In the Spring, we're going to have a science lesson on how to plant seeds, and water them every week, etc. Then we'll plant whatever survives around Memorial Day. Hopefully, something will come of the plants next summer! Happy Thursday, my friend. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. Interesting fungi...ours were not so much this year, not even many mushrooms. How neat to still have tomatoes. Handsome son! How neat to use so many interesting herbs. I really should make more of an effort with them.

  4. I think that looks like a good basket full of tomatoes! Some years they just don't do well, though - my cherry tomato didn't do well this year at all. I've had Penzey's spices before, but those two are new to me - I'll have to try them. A birthday taco bar sounds tasty! And a lucky shirt for the Broncos - wish I had one of those!

  7. I've been seeing so many mushrooms around our place lately also! Hmmm... must be the weather? or time of year? I don't remember seeing them like this before.

  8. You got lots of great tomatoes. We didn't get too many this year. The spices you mention sound interesting but they don't sound familiar to me. Happy birthday to your son!!
