I LIKE Thursday. 11-20-25

To be totally transparent, mine looks like a craft store sneezed. It’s not just fabrics that are in disarray.

We stitched in a new place this week. It’s the VFW meeting place, in the center of town with busy highways all around. Easy to get to, centrally located and a great room.

And as I left yesterday afternoon at 2pm, I drove out of the area and this herd of antelope were grazing in what used to be grass.

I always get a kick out of seeing our wildlife up close. They are not afraid at all of a car driving past. A couple noticed me but most ignored me.

Our state got new license plates this year. Mine didn’t expire until November, but I purchased them at the beginning of November because it easier to put the new ones on when the weather is mild.

I redacted some of the identifying info, but you can see our famous cowboy on a bucking bronco, the  state seal, and the America Buffalo that is also on our state flag.

This morning I made another batch of a family favorite, Bran Muffins

This is recipe that was in the hometown newspaper where I grew up in western South Dakota. I made a copy from my mom’s recipe book and taped it in book that was a bridal shower gift. After 61 years I need to put it my computer and print out a new one. Hope you can read this. I made 1/2 a batch this time and we will get 3 dozen  at least. We like raisins added or homemade jam dropped onto each one before baking.

If you need clarification, please sent me a email.

LeeAnna put this question out there?

Do you remember making construction paper turkeys in elementary school? using your own hand? coloring them in or pasting on cut out colored feathers? taking them home and having a parent put them up in the house?

I don’t!  I do remember being the recipient of hand turkeys from grandchildren and great grandchildren . Colored with crayon, sometimes outside the lines.😍

This is all, for the day late post. Please check over at No Afraid of Color, where LeeAnna had put together a list of links of others who LIKE THURSDAY.

I LIKE Thursday 25.3

Another good one from Nanea Hoffman from Sweatpants and Coffee. I need affirmation posts every now and again. Actually, I like them every day!

I’m joining up with LeeAnna and friends over at Not Afraid of Color, for inspiration and affirmation and good things to like.

The weather has been frightful lately, and I can’t like it very well. But a good thing is, it is easy to retire to my sewing room.

I’ve been working on Project Quiltings 2nd prompt…

I don’t own ombré colored fabric. I’m not particularly dawn to those fabric. I mean, I love the shading in the challenge meme, and I like other things ombré colored but…? So off to the www. I went. Stay tuned.

I also baked a blueberry bread with lemon glaze this week. We haven’t tasted it yet, but it was a recipe from https://natashaskitchen.com/blueberry-bread/. We used her cranberry bread with orange glaze while we were in California, so I’m confident this will be good as well.

While looking in kitchen drawers for something to use to zest the lemon, I ran across this gadget . It’s from Pampered Chef. Does anyone know what it is?

Can you believe I don’t have a grater, or a microplane or a zester? Come on, even my son owns a zester!

Anyway, I remedied that problem and Amazon will deliver this week along with this book.

The Reading List by Sarah Nisha Adams

It’s on my F2F Book Clubs Reading List for discussion in April. I’ve read The First Ladies, to be discussed in February and Remarkably Bright Creatures, our book for March. So I’m good.

My daughter and granddaughter are coming to visit this weekend. Finger crossed for good traveling weather. 🤞.

If you don’t see any posts this weekend, you will know why. Girl times are happening and we are busy!.

ScrapHappy Saturday!

Here we are. Almost half way through December, 10 days to Christmas Eve. Yikes, where did 2024 go?

Just because, I’ll show some photos of the  mountain!

The fog and low cloud cover have been hampering our view. It’s in the 40s but damp and foggy!

Good days for sewing, but when you don’t have a machine, it’s a good baking day.

An apple and cranberry cake. It’s got pecans too! Two of the three of us would rather not have the pecans, but that didn’t keep us from eating it!!LOL

I am away from my machine, but did explore one possible RSC block for 2025 before I covered up my machine and left.

The potato chip block has caught my eye. I experimented with some ancient scraps from my overflowing green bin and  my purple scrap bucket was sitting out too!

I haven’t done the math to decide how many blocks of each color I would need for a decent sized lap quilt,  but I’ll do that soon.

Have you ever made a potato chip block?

Linking up with Angela at So Scrappy for todays Linky Party!

I Like Thursday. March 16

I’m joining in with fellow bloggers at Not Afraid of Color and our hostess LeeAnna! It’s a great place to share your joy, gratitude and good stuff! If you’ve never joined, write a post. Tell LeeAnna your blog details and she’ll add you to her ever growing list!

This week, her prompt is:

do you like Spring flowers? Which ones are your favorites? Do you plant them in your yard? is there a particular color you like? Any interesting story to tell about seeing Spring flowers emerge? Is there a time you were stunned seeing a whole collection of them somewhere like I was at Longwood Gardens?

My response:
Spring flowers are my favorites. Crocus ( the State Flower of my birth place, SD), tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinth, lilacs. I don’t have any in my yard. That’s sad isn’t it. I meant to put bulbs in last fall, but a bad knee kept me from it. And now working in the garden is just that, work! I probably need a gardener as well as a housekeeper, and neither of those things are going to happen!
So I’ll be content with some pots of summer flowers, in red, yellow, and purple (my favorite color). Mr Busy and I will try to add some perennials this year, with the help of our granddaughter and her partner. And more Xeriscaping.
Every year the Master Gardeners in our community sponsor a Garden Walk in late Summer. For a ticket price of $10, you can walk around 5-9 gardens in our community and see other’s spaces. It’s fun and inspiring.

Food

I made a blueberry pie for Pi Day! Mr Busy is happy!

No special recipe, store bought Pillsbury ready crust. Canned blueberry pie filling from Kroger. I did go online and use these suggestions to “beef it up a bit!”

https://thetastytip.com/how-to-make-canned-blueberry-pie-filling-taste-better/

It made a very full pie and it cooked over. I’m glad I had a disposable oven liner ( bought for sorting large quilt blocks) on hand. It saved my oven from being a total mess. Also stained four hot pads, but I quickly washed them and they are fine. ;)!  My ancient 9 in pie pan is not very deep, I’ll keep that in mind next time.

I also made Vegetable Soup, using my old stand-by recipe from Weight Watchers and Beer Bread, definitely not a WW recipe!

Entertainment:

Still watching Suits on Prime. Trying to catch up on some of the Network shows we like. NCIS, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, East New York, and Blue Bloods! Do you see a pattern here! LOL!,

Today, I’ll be stitching with my friends. I’m still working on November for A Year in the Garden.

And then I have an appointment for a haircut, finally!

And I’m working on Project Quilting 14.6.

I’ll post about it when complete or by Sunday for sure !

Until next time! I’m back in the sewing room! There are UFOs, some ironing and of course tidying up to do!

To-Do Tuesday #67 Looking forward to Christmas!

Last week I had what I thought was an easy and doable list. And it should have been. But there was a snafu!

 Last week’s list

1. Keep stitching on Santa  Baker! ✅

I am really enjoying this. The cute little needle minder is very helpful. I've been watching some YouTube videos from different people showing counted cross stitch techniques. I've been stitching off and on for 30+ years and I am learning some new ideas. You really can "teach an old dog new tricks!"

2. Make cranberry salad and pumpkin pie for Thursday!✅

I wish I had pictures! I always make a salad with cranberries, grapes, red jello and whipped cream! It’s pretty and it’s yummy. Pumpkin pie is easy, right? Especially with frozen crusts! I’ve made dozens of pumpkin pies! And never have I ever forgotten the sugar. I’m on WW, trying to keep my 29 lb weight loss in line, but sugar free (really sugar-free) is truly “icky”. Reminded me of baby food! Blech!! In the trash, and two more pies made for Friday! Thanks goodness there was no company. Only the two most important men in my life and they love me, warts and all!

3. Start a Christmas Ornament stitchery! ✅

I purchased this kit from Jacquelynn Steve’s and had it sent to our son’s house.

I got all the pieces traced on freezer paper and pressed to the appropriate pieces of felt. The first one, the deer on a mitten shape, is ready to start the stitching. It will be fun I think!

I’m linking up with Linda at  Texas Quilt Gal with blushing cheeks! This old grandma and great grandma has years of experience cooking and baking! How could I make such a rookie mistake. Oh well, on to next week. Wednesday would have been my sister’s 73rd birthday! I miss her every day!

To Do List 11.30.21 - 12.6.21

1. Work on felt ornaments.

2. Continue stitching on Santa Baker.

3. Address some Christmas cards.

Until next week, Stay Busy and Stay Happy and Healthy

To-Do Tuesday #65

I’m linking up with Linda at Texas Quilt Gal for To-Do Tuesday!    I’ll quickly share my list and progress from last week.

Last weeks list was short.

1. Keep stitching on Santa Baker. ✅

Can you see my progress from last week on the right, and last night on the left?

2. Put Full Stop blocks away. ✅

All my rows are safely packed and labeled. This is one project box of nine that I keep, plus 8 individual bags of started UFOS.  Don’t mention the tote full of possible projects, not yet started!

3. Start to pack for our trip ! ✅

This is how I start!  I sort into piles on the bed in the guest room! Lots of zippered pouches to sort into! My correspondence folder with Christmas cards, address labels and stamps! My extra prescriptions, masks, sanitizer. All the stuff for 6-8 weeks away!

Next week -November 16 - November 22

1. Work on stitching down binding and burying threads of a secret sewing project.

2. Finish stitching Santa Bakers pant legs!

3. Make zucchini bread for DS and finish some bookkeeping tasks before the weekend.

4. Change Privacy Settings on this blog. I have a troll!
